The Floor Store for left my family's home a mess, damaged our furniture, left holes in our walls, left their trash all over the place, and took a week to get done with a tenth of what took my new contractor 2 hours to do (tear out.) The job, removal and install, was quoted for 4 days by The Floor Store. They were late and left early every day. They hardly did anything for 3 days and just sat around our house doing God knows what. They claimed it was a lot harder than expected and taking longer. We know they were actually coming and going all day, opening and closing outside doors constantly, and setting the motion sensor off in our bedroom a few times a day (which wasn't having any work done and down a separate hallway from where any work had begun) thanks to our alarm system notifications. The times I did come by during the day they were not performing any work and acted like they didn't understand English when I questioned them about it. After the third day, not able to understand how nothing was getting done and how they couldn't produce a professional solution, my wife and I proved they were not working, on a day they didn't show, up by smoking their first 2 days of work in just 2 hours on our own with their pry bars and hammers. They left my front door open when they left the night it snowed, and I had to get out in treacherous weather to go secure my house because they, themselves, were in a hurry did not want to get stuck out in it. They had food trash all over the house and in our yard. They used our dishes and put them back dirty and used our unprotected dining room table as a work surface. They even had the table on top of a pile of debris with soda cans and miscellaneous tools on top of it Monday when I came to lock up. This was an expensive table. They didn't cover anything in plastic and covered our couch, which we asked to be put in the garage before they ever began, in saw dust. They damaged our walls and we still don't understand in the locations how it happened. We moved our own furniture, besides the dining room table and couch, out so it wasn't from that. They poured gallons of water on our floors raising the RH in our home by over 10-20%. It took weeks to get the RH down with a dehumidifier and caused damage to woodwork and cabinetry from the expansion then contraction. We were told, obviously, that this was counter intuitive and stupid because it ruined the integrity of the planks and that the glue wasn't water soluble, ultimately making the job harder. On the 5th day, a day beyond the original completion date with about 15% of the job complete, Alvin and his foreman and 4 crew members were supposed to show up at 9:30 with the proper equipment and make a huge push to catch up. 2 guys showed up at 11:20 and left after an hour of doing nothing (zero work), Pablo (the foreman) showed up at 1:30 followed by the other 2 crew members, and Alvin finally showed up at 2:30. They would all leave by 3:30. Once Alvin showed up we confronted them and they walked out and left our house like this, and the owner Alvin never owned up to the fact anything was done wrong or that our home and belongings were getting mistreated. He was too busy smirking and laughing in our faces about our concerns and defending his "sought after guys" because they "do great work." During the confrontation, Alvin asked us if we wanted them to continue working or leave and we decided if they were going to actually work, and since we were going to be here, they could stay. The new estimated time of completion at this point was now to be 6 more long days, and we were asking for a miracle at this point. They packed their things and literally snuck out about 15 minutes later with the intention to not come back, because THEY were upset, leaving me to cleanup their personal food trash and take eight 50 gallon bags of debris out of my house. Leaving us to deal with the damage to our furniture and home as well. My wife called Alvin immediately once we realized they had left to see if there is something that we had miss. Alvin said that they left because we upset them and if I would cool off and learn how to act then maybe we could work something out, as if he actually thought at this point they were doing us a favor by continuing the job and thought that my wife was somehow on his side. And yes they already got paid for materials and the full removal.
Description of Work: Hired to tear out old hardwood and install new. Didn't even get done with 1/10 of tear out in a day over total estimated completion time. Walked out on the 5th day with home in shambles with no intentions of coming back. They were already paid in full for tear out and materials. Materials were in our possession.
