I called Arkansas House Levelers because they work with water damage. I explained my worries over the phone because I didn't want Mr. Lee to have to make a trip over here if he could not do the work. Mr. Lee came over anyway, looked at my kitchen floor and agreed that it would have to be replaced, but he does not replace floors. Even then, he crawled under my house, told me it was wet because of condensation and that I would need to open all the vents - which he did for me, and that I may not need to replace any of the floor joists (which is something he does). Marty suggested I contact a home remodeler to get the floor replaced, then said that if they thought the joists needed to be replaced and they could not do it, to call him back and he would do it. After all of that he chaged me nothing. He would not even take a couple of dollars to get a cold drink - it was 95 degrees outside yesterday. I couldn't ask more. He treated me like a friend.
Description of Work: Marty came over and crawled under my house to assess the water damage and what needed to be done.

We bought a house in 2009 in Stifft Station that had foundation problems. There were several areas that needed correction before we remodeled and moved in. I got several quotes and listened to the responses as well as the prices; I chose Arkansas House Levelers because they seemed honest and the price was fair. Marty and his Dad were lifesavers. Not only did they do everything they were supposed to do (and it has held up, because this was five years ago), they even repaired a couple of other small unrelated problems under the house (no extra charge) because they noticed them. UPDATE: I called Marty last week (8/12/2014) for an uneven floor problem at rental property. He drove 70 miles to inspect it and then called me to say that the structure was sound and the floor was a little wavy because the house is more than 100 years old. In other words, he was completely truthful and lost the chance to make a profit. I am posting this now about the job he did in 2009 because I wasn't a member of Angie's list back then. But he was honest and did good work in 2009 and he is still totally reliable and trustworthy. Can't praise Arkansas House Levelers enough.
Description of Work: 2009--Leveled and added new piers to unsound Stifft Station home. 2014--Inspected rental property near Greers Ferry Lake and found it was structurally sound. Cost above was for 2009. No charge for driving 140 miles and inspecting my rental property.

Description of Work: Installed 2 piers and beam. Replaced water-damaged joists, sill and plate. Sagging kitchen floor now rock-solid. Work performed as promised as to time frame and results with no "unforeseen" problems. Very satisfied with Marty, Sam and rest of crew.

Description of Work: AR House Levelers added additional foundation / structural support in the form of piers & beams in the crawlspace. Stabilizing load bearing walls and stabilization from tornado activity were the focus. Previous home owners had installed a floor to ceiling faux rock fireplace without consideration of floor load on the existing joist structure. Idiots. This was remedied. Marty is an easy contractor to communicate with.

The bedroom floor of our 85 year old house bounced like a trampoline. I called Marty Lee, Owner of Arkansas House Levelers to give me an estimate to stop the bouncing. He came by that afternoon and explained what needed to be done and priced the job. He said he needed a weeks notice to do the job when I am ready. I called and he came within 3 days and poured the concrete footings. Due to rain he could not come back the next day to finish but as soon as he could return he did. Now our floor is as solid as a new build and we walk through the bedroom every chance we get. This was the greatest fix for the money in a long time.
Description of Work: They poured concrete footers under my house and added a beam to support the floor joist.

Marty crawled under the low part of the crawl space and I went too, to my relief he explained that my joists were not rotted and only a small part of the sub floor under the kitchen cabinet was rotted and my handy man could easily fix that. The cracks were just normal settling and no foundation work would be needed. The house was built in the 1940's and a large stone fireplace added at a later date when the carport was converted to a den. He was honest and did not try to sell me something I didm't need which happens a lot to elderly single women. So I recommend him and his company highly for his honesty, and explaining about what he saw so that would be one less worry for this old lady! And you can't beat the price it was free and he came to the appointment on time. Thats a win-win.
Description of Work: Marty came and inspected my foundation for me. I was quite concerned because of some new cracks in a stone wall of the house and front porch as I had recently located a long time leak in the plumbing under the kitchen sink.

I could not be more pleased with the result. Our home is a 96 year old bungalow in Stifft Station. Over the last few years the floors in our living room/dining room had become increasingly shaky and creaky. Ark. House Levelers was great. When I called for an estimate, they were able to come the next day. Their estimate was a pleasant surprise. It was clear that they had a tremendous amount of experience in general, but also in working on the older homes in our neighborhood. I felt comfortable from the start. As I said, we are very pleased with the work. Our house feels stable again. Hopefully, we will be able to enjoy it for many years to come.
Description of Work: Stabilized the floors under two rooms using a beam the length of the shaky area and 5 piers.

They were awesome. They did a complete assessment of the home, inside and out. Very professional. They crawled under the house looking at what was under there. They told me that what we were originally had been told wasn't 100% true, and he went through and explained the options and what time frame we were looking at. I am very appreciative to have a contractor that was looking out for our best interest! I was floored at the honesty. They told us that the work to be done wasn't necessary at this time. I will be doing business with this company when the time comes to have work performed.
Description of Work: We called them out as an alternate estimate for bracing under the house with two more beams.

I give this company my highest recommendation. Marty and his crew were some of the nicest people I've ever met. I had estimates from 2 other companies, and neither got under the house to see the problem. Marty actually got under the house and gave me good information to be able to make an informed decision on what to do with the foundation.
Description of Work: My house was built in the 1940s, and the pier and beam foundation was sagging in the middle. I needed to have the foundation leveled out.

We are completely satisfied with the skill, work, and work ethic we observed. Every member of the team was always friendly, warm, and polite. As a matter of fact, Marty and Sam even discovered a broken door hinge and an abberation in the tile in one room (which had occurred during the time the house was out of level) and corrected it as a helpful lagniappe.
Description of Work: Although our large two-story house is only about 13 years old, the staircase was not adequately supported by the number and location of the original footings and piers. As a result, certain floors and doors had begun to sag, a condition our house inspector identified when we bought the house in Nov 2011. We found Arkansas House Levelers on Angie's List. Impressed with others' experiences with the company, we invited AHL (Marty and his father, Sam) to assess our needs and propose a fix. They kept the appointment right on time and we were immediately taken with their polite and professional (and obviously very experienced) approach to diagnosing our problem. Our house is built on shale, fill, and bedrock and the crawl space is low, but that didn't daunt Marty in the least as he dove under the house to inspect the situation. The proposal was to dig out (to a depth of 12") and pour six new 2' x 2' concrete footings and build six new piers, install some 17' feet of beam, and, shimming with steel where needed, raise the affected parts of the house to level. Marty estimated that the work would take four days, cost $5600, and that's exactly what happened. Marty, Sam, and two other men were always on time, always hard at work, and finished the job exactly as promised. They left no clutter, trash, or waste concrete. Except for the new piers and beams they installed with great precision, you'd never know they'd even visited.

Marty provided an estimate on the same day we called. He explained what needed to be done and how he would do it. His timefame to begin the job was weeks before the other extimators. While on the job he and his assistants were focused and professional. Work was completed within his estimated time frame and results were discussed at the end of the job.
Description of Work: Replaced sections of floor joist that had water damage from front porch drainage issue. Being on a steep hill, the joist being replaced were at least 10-12 feet above the unlevel ground.

See above - two thumbs up!
Description of Work: Marty was quick to respond to my call for an estimate. I had another company look and they seemed to be wanting to do all this "extra" stuff that nobody else seemed to mention. Marty was very upfront with what all needed to be done to correct my problems and put my house back to where it needed to be. Once he quoted me an estimate and began the job he ran into a couple of extra problems but only charged me what he originally quoted. I was unable to be at home during the actual process of the leveling but my parents were here the whole time. He was able to correct all of my issues and I could immediately tell a difference in my floors. He placed a beam under my living room to which there wasn't ever one there. This alone solved my whole "shaky" issue in my living room. When my husband and I bought our house 5 years ago we knew then it needed leveled and just haven't had the time or the "extra" money to have it done. Had I known of Arkansas House Levelers 5 years ago and known just how reasonable it was to have it done I would have done it then. I can only hope and pray that I will never NEED their services again but if I do, they will forever be in my phone book of who to call. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone. I am sure that, like everyone else, Marty loves making money, but it is obvious that he takes great pride in his work and not only wants the customer satisfied, he himself wants to be satisfied with a job well done.

Description of Work: I had cracks in my walls, not just on seams, that were getting bigger. I also was having doors such as my front door and closet doors that would not close without lifting up on them or pushing down. A year earlier a different company had looked at these issues (which weren't quite as bad) from the perspective of the foundation and didn't see where there was anything to do at that point. AR House Levelers looked at my issues from a different perspective - from the middle of the house. They used a measuring tape and level and determined where the weight needed more support, then added supports under the house and changed wood on existing supports to steel, picking the middle back up to close the cracks. I was very impressed. It took just part of each of three days and we stayed in the house, had no mess, etc. as all the work was done in the crawl space. Afterwards one support had to be moved due to the space needed by my air/heating company to get into a unit. I was warned that this could be an issue and when it was, the problem was fixed immediately (the next morning). This was all very different from what I had heard about having foundations repaired.
