Description of Work: We have used Robert Laird for years and have always found him to be reliable and professional. He has one little space of a few months in about 2013 when we couldn't get in touch with him. He may have had something personal going on. He has since become available and we have used him and been satisfied with his work.

These guys are very reliable. We live in a very wooded neighborhood and they have safely handled all of our needs for thinning/trimming trees over the last 10 years or so. Wouldn't use anyone else.
Description of Work: Trim and/or remove trees from our yard.

We have used this provider earlier and as a matter of fact this was the third time we were using them. They have always done just what they have said they would do. They would a decent job. This time the job consisted of several things in the way of cutting up trees, taking down trees, trimming some trees and stuff like that. Finally we had settled on a price of $1000. What happened is that he came and he then went away and then he came back late that day and as it was getting to be dark he asked if he could finish up. I asked him if it was safe as it was getting dark now. So I put on some lights at the back there so that it would shine over the property. He said that he is used to working in the dark and all that stuff. So I agreed to let him stay on to finish up. What happened is that they had some brush plough and stuff like that. I have a gate out there which is 10 foot high. He was out at the back there with all sorts of stuff and he broke, smashed the post holding the gate and dented the middle gate. By now it was 9.30 or so at night. He said that he would back the next day and fix everything. I agree to that and informed him that I would pay him then, to which he suggested that I hold back $200 and pay him the rest because he needs to make his pay roll. I like a fool went and did that. The thing is he never came back. I finally had to hire somebody else, a home improvement company who put in two more posts and I bought another new gate too. It was not supposed to be the gate but because of the two big posts. In doing the repair and putting the fence back together it cost me $280. This was after two weeks. First he kept delaying, like he has run into another job, that he has to finish up the old room, he would put in a better post than what he broke, then it got to a point when he never even returned calls, he never answered. He gave us an insurance carrier to contact. We contacted the insurance company and they said that they had to cancel his policies for non payment. So it was a real bad one. We have used him twice before successfully. Robert is his name and he seemed to me as hard working, honest young man or I would not have gone for that. Then he refused to take the calls or call us back. If you call his cell he just would not answer. It does not take genius to figure out when you have got the number flashing. That is when we finally after three weeks later that we had somebody else. We called his answering service a number of times and I know we left the messages and I know he got the messages that we left because he told me. The answering services take the call but they just take the messages. They assured me that he was getting them. He had his cell phone too and we had that number and we called that number a number of times. At first he kept lying to us saying he would here tomorrow, in two three days. Whatever it was he did not show up. Then he quit taking the call all together. He just would not answer. Just tamper it off. He turned out not being honest. The bottom is I have every benefit. He never called us, never showed up. He is just not honest. We will not use his service. His advertising says that he is doing service for 19 years. I am assuming that he has not been marking dishonest with people for 19 years but he is still in business for 19 years. But I just feel that there is some kind of fraud with his insurance canceled because of non payment and he is not just responsible.
Description of Work: In September 2010 we used A TO Z Tree Service for trimming trees. We paid him $1000.

I calle A-Z tree service the next day after receiving the name and number from Angie's list. The representative came out the following day, looked at the tree and gave me in writing the estimate cost and the services which he would do the same day. On the scheduled day his crew arrived and worked until the job was done. I am so glad I was able to do business with him. I had talked to two (2) other tree services before him and I was most disappointed in the previous 2. It is true the 3rd time was the charm and the job was done.
Description of Work: cut the tree down, a 75 footer, haul off the big limbs and tree trunk, swept the yard from debris. completed job same day.

Returned my call promptly for an estimate. No delays in getting started. Completed the job in a day and a half. I was thoroughly satisfied, and would definitely use A-Z again. Excellent results, fair price and dependable performance.
Description of Work: Cut down and removed one very old, very large pine tree, and removed dead and overhanging boughs and limbs from several very large, old oaks. A-Z took great pains to protect the lawn and landscaping from being impacted by their equipment and operations, and completed a thorough clean-up when they were finished.

Robert Laird was leaving a card on our door when I answered the doorbell. He was looking for work and we both knew these conjoined trees needed to be separated or cabled. His persona left me with a sense of confidence and we called him for a firm estimate. On the appointed day for removal, we discussed other "tree" needs upon their arrival. We felt they offered good counsel and were pleased with the total estimate. It is nice to have workers who seem pleased to be doing their craft as well as earning a living. We will definitely call them when needed in the future.
Description of Work: Carefully removed a very large and old diseased oak tree conjoined to another oak tree. Trimmed overgrown "suckers" from most trees on our "mini-forest" lot. Removed eight smaller trees. Cleared all trash from yard and drive area. And, they did all of this with a smile. Also asked it they could hang for us a holiday wreath they noticed was waiting to be located on an outside window on the second story. Wow!!!

The house was built before the now common practice of clear cutting the lots. The deck was built around one of the oaks and the back yard was not accessible by their trucks. It was a major undertaking and very risky due to the proximity of the trees to our home as well as our neighbor's home, the size and age of the trees. The oak in the front hung completely over our home and over into our neighbor's property and close to their house. A to Z has all the necessary equipment and probably used all of it on this project--chipper, bucket truck, trucks and trailers to haul. They were knowledgeable, explained each step in the process, and made recommendations for future work. The trees were cut to below ground level and all of the debris was hauled away. There was no damage to our home or property. The workers were diligent. There were only positive comments regarding the workers as well as the work from neighbors who watched this undertaking when we were not at home.
Description of Work: A to Z Tree Service cut down and removed 3 trees from our yard that were growing adjacent to our house--2 very old and very large oak trees, and 1 smaller hickory tree.

Excellent! Crew showed up on time with enough men to complete job on time. Crew was very careful to control limbs as they came down. Returned all deck furniture to previous locations when work was done. Due to location of the stump they couldn't use the stump grinder to remove stump but removed it down to ground level and covered it with dirt and sawdust. All debris/wood was hauled off. Price was competitive with quotes from other tree service companies contacted. Crew was very polite and fully bonded and insured. Very satisfied with service.
Description of Work: Completely removed dead 60 foot pine tree from back yard. Tree was very close to house and extended up through deck.

They did a really good job on the work they were able to do. I was satisfied with them. It was an unusual situation because about 40 years ago the previous homeowners had it filled with concrete to about 10 feet high just to strengthen the tree that was hollow. I wish all of it could have been removed, but it wasn t any fault of theirs, so I was happy with what they were able to do.
Description of Work: I had a big tree removed. They chipped up some of it and the other larger pieces were loaded on a trailer and hauled away.
