Pemberton Painting

Do not hire Penny Pemberton the owner of Ridgeway Renovations in Eureka Springs Arkansas. The reason for making this statement are base on the work she performed for us and the process in which it was conducted. I’ve been a general contractor in Oklahoma City for almost 25 years. I am from a family of builders who have been contracting in Oklahoma City for over a century. We have built everything from skyscrapers to helping average people with small but important jobs. The work we contracted her to do was basic and should have been easily completed. We hired a general contractor, Penny Pemberton at Ridgeway Renovations, because we would not be able to be here for the majority of the work. We needed someone to manage and supervise the work we contracted. Her job was to manage and supervise our project. We never saw her on the job site while the workers were here working ever! Simply adding basement storage, staining house cedar, adding a small french drain, installing a rock bed with a few pavers proved to be above their ability. Stain was applied to the deck railings and the cedar on the house and they failed to protect the surrounding areas to prevent collateral damage. Again was dropped everywhere. On the windows, on the deck railing cables and all over the very expensive composite decking. Their are simple steps, that all reputable contractors do, that are necessary to do to protect their clients property. They never cleaned it up and we are still trying to grit it all cleaned up. The small french drain they installed still holds water and will not drain because they simply didn’t dig the dirt out properly and allow for a adequate fall to the slope. The landscaping is a total disaster. They never dug out the flower bed deep enough, never measured the depth or leveled the soil, poorly installed the weed prevention underlayment, and poorly added crushed rock and gravel. The final rock they installed was inadequate from the start. The bed was sunken and bellied out and not even close to level. Weeds grew up with in two weeks, and the rock and pavers are uneven and sinking. The sidewalk pavers, terminating at the driveway, look like a very inexperienced person took a hammer and broke off pieces to make them fit. All of the landscape is unacceptable, extremely unattractive and highly disappointing. They also installed a lattice cover under the deck and built a gate with a latch. The very poorly built gate had a latch installed that simply fell off due to its badly designed location. We now have to place a rock in front of the gate to keep it closed. Despite calling, texting and leaving endless messages we got no response or resolution to our issues. Unfortunately we paid the final 1/3rd we agreed, including supplemental expenses, to her online before we could return to inspect her work. We did this out of respect to her because my wife had knee surgery, needed physical therapy, and we were delayed returning to our property. We have given Penny every opportunity to finish these tasks. It’s now over 8 months and still they have not finished. She refuses to take my calls, texts and messages. Our hope is that this information helps someone. If you hire Ridgeway Renovations expect them to be incompetent, unreliable, unaccountable and will perform unacceptable work,. Expect Penny to be childish, block your calls, never return your texts messages, and never seeing your project to completion.

I would not hire Pemberton Paint, Penny Pemberton. Pemberton Painting, Penny Pemberton is well known in Eureka Springs, Arkansas for submitting the lowest bid, just to get the job. Then about half way through the job, she keeps adding things, to the point where your bid is double what she told you it would cost. Penny Pemberton never even showed up on the work site to approve or disapprove of the work that her hired workers did. They worked on our home located within the historic loop of Eureka Springs, AR. They installed spindles on our porch upside down. They did no prep work before they painted, and the paint began peeling within 6 months. Areas that we paid her to repair were never done. We called her back to examine the work, and we walked around together for an hour with a clipboard as she made a long list of substandard work that her workers did. She said she would redo the work, at no cost to us. That conversation was in August of 2020. We have never seen her again. She will not answer texts/emails/voicemails. Sadly, we had paid her in full. My husband halted the work done by her company, after he saw the substandard work that her company delivers. We were greatly distressed by this and even sought advice from local clergy, who told us that we would be "doing a community service to take her to small claims court", so that others in the community would not be taken advantage of by her any longer. We hired a national chain painting company, Certa Pro, to come in and do the rework of the work that her company did at a substandard level. It will cost us thousands to pay for the rework. I would not recommend Penny Pemberton, Pemberton Painting to do any work. She only shows up on the job site to take more money. She hires people that have little or no training. Almost anyone can hold a paint brush, but that does not make them a painter. We are very sorry that we hired Pemberton Painting.

This was a huge undertaking and I am so happy that I did not try to tackle this job myself. The job took longer than I expected mainly because of all the work before the actual painting. During the process, they did a very nice job of cleaning up at the end of the day. I had dozens of neighbors stop and tell me how fantastic the house was looking plus many more just stopping to look or wave when driving past. On the last day, the windows were cleaned and they left me with an awesome house. Pemberton Painting did a meticulous job on the preparation work and the end result is a beautiful paint job that should last for many years. I have had tons of complements from the locals.

The price was reasonable. They were outstanding. They were on time. They were professional.
