The Roofing Guys, LLC

When we moved into our home last June, the inspector said we had 2 layers of roofing which needed to be removed and replaced, given an additional 3rd layer install is against code.  We began shopping for a roofing contractor and received quotes from at least 5 other contractors, all seemed really high.  Ideally, we wanted to use environmentally-friendly, and energy-efficient materials but the up front cost was too high for our budget.  When Dustin Mitchell with The Roofing Guys came over to give an estimate, he noticed we had not only 2 layers of existing roofing material, but in fact 3.  Several other contractors, including Home Depot, had not spotted this when providing their estimate.  Dustin provided several quotes ranging from single tab to cedar shake, all of which were several thousand dollars below any other received quote!  We decided to go for a standard 20-year 3-tab shingle, in the lightest color possible to maximize solar reflection at a cost of $5,500 for everything.  Dustin also said that the 3 existing layers would be removed and taken to a local recycling center, where they were turned into asphalt for Little Rock roads, and would not go to landfill.  The Roofing Guys showed up with the impression that it would possibly take 2 days to complete the job, given the 3rd layer of material.  Instead, the work was completed early evening on the 1st day and looks fantastic!  

As far as clean-up was concerned, their tarps did not damage the vegetable gardens around the house, but I did find a few nails and shingle bits over the next couple of weeks.  I also had to vacuum the attic and hallway under the attic stairs to remove quite a bit of roof grit that had fallen through the decking.  Given the quantity of material that had to be removed, I suppose that was expected.  Our home is much cooler now that it can breathe and the new whirley birds (which we've never had) were installed.  

On the punctual note, it always seemed to take a bit longer to get back to me with updates than expected, but it seemed just as I was about to get frustrated and call, Dustin would ironically call me.  We still haven't received a receipt for recycling the roofing material, as was specified in the contract, but I have confidence that it hasn't been forgotten about.
