Response from Custom Deckworks
Okay. Not sure who this person is; I've never met with them nor have I been to their house. I appreciate that they gave me an "A", but then for the only description to be that they say they did the work themselves makes it seem like I was supposed to do it and somehow failed to get to it or my price was not right. I get several people a year that call me wanting prices over the phone or ballpark estimates. Even though that's hard to do since there are so many variables involved to give an accurate cost, I do try to be as friendly and helpful as I can to people. I understand how many people just want to get an idea of the cost of something, partially to weigh if they can/should just do the work themselves - because I am one of those people. This may be one of the people that called me and spoke with me over the phone only. And in those situations I don't write down any of their info unless we are planning to have an appointment for me to look at the work. Since most companies are pretty rude and protective of their pricing, they won't give ballpark quotes over the phone and they certainly won't spend time visiting with a homeowner givng advice and tips on how they could best do the work themselves. I have been thanked and applauded for the opposite. I will spend time with people helping them gain any knowledge they need to be successful in their DIY project. If they are not going to (or can't afford to) hire me anyway, I may as well be kind and help them with any advice I can. It won't do me any good for this person to fail and waste money because, even if they had to give up and hire me anyway, then they'd have less money to pay me with and they'd be jaded at that point - which is not good for anyone. So..... I'm hoping that this gentleman is one of those people I helped out over the phone instead of a member that accidentally posted his review to the wrong company. But I don't recognize the last name or the address; and I have no notes of this person. I'll certainly take the "A" but I would like to know what it was for. If that is the case, then I'm glad I could be of help, I hope the project turned out great and that you enjoy it for many years, and enjoy the pride that comes with takling a project like that yourself. And..... thanks for the "A"! Most people don't take the time to reward me for the many hours each year that I spend with strangers on the phone trying to make sure they get the best result even if they don't hire my company. Thanks for recognizing that I am not in this for the money; that I am truly in this business to make sure everyone gets the absolute best deck they can - even if my company doesn't make a dollar. Merry Christmas!
