Talked to North Side representative about services required to repair a generator. A service technician was supposed to call back to discuss the details. They never returned a call. Not very professional customer service.

Horrible! I used them once and never again! Paid for yearly maintenance and got receipt that everything was paid in full. I called a year later to have maintenance done and front office shows receipt of payment and has now added another bill without my knowledge. They never sent invoice, it was for a service I didn’t have done a year later.

I'm sorry that you are not happy. We always strive to take care of customers needs and on occasion it's just not possible. Our maintenance plans include a new battery every 3 years of consecutive service. Your unit was installed in roughly 2013 by someone other than us, and in 2018 you requested service and needed a new battery. This was the additional charge you are referring to, But that was invoiced in the beginning. you refused to pay for the battery used in 2018. During that conversation back in 2018 it was made clear to our office you where not interested in future service. Therefore we wrote of the charges and cancelled future services. I am a little confused by your calling for service in 2020? We are here to help our customers through trying times and insure their generators preform when the utility company's fail. We do have to be profitable to accomplish that for the many quality customers we service regularly. Again I am sorry to hear you are unhappy and wish you the best of luck.

Excellent job of installing adequate sized transfer case and subsequent maintenance. When generator failed during ice storm on New Year's Eve a year or so later a tech came out after midnight and fixed it!
Description of Work: Maintenance of generator previously installed by another firm-transfer case shorted because house amps were too much for case capacity. Manufacturer rec Northside.

They were fairly responsive initially getting a person out to do a site survey (within a couple days). It took about a week to hear back with a number from that survey. After asking a couple questions I haven't heard anything back despite a promise to provide the information. They must be too busy.

I am truly sorry that we did not fit. We monitor all calls and communications in and out of our office to attempt to insure customers questions are answered but after 40 years on occasion we just don't fit. Although we hate to not be able to help everyone we also understand. Thank you for letting me know where we may have deficiency and be able to improve our methods. Sincerely, Greg Nalley

Description of Work: Workers installed a Generac 6729 20kw whole-house generator. This was 74 days after the original contract date but installation was within the promised time-frame. Plumber was a day late, which caused a 24hr delay for the gas-line hookup; otherwise installation was punctual and flawless. In a test, workers created a fake power outage and the generator kicked in after 5 seconds, powering everything in the house. All workers were well prepared, impressively competent, and helpful with answers to questions. I had a couple of issues getting in touch with Northside Power by telephone. When their phone lines are all busy, an answering service picks up the call, but the service can't do anything but take a message. Emails were answered same day. Before I contracted, I had talked to a Northside rep (Greg Nalley) at a trade show. I found him to be extremely informative. Three neighbors in my development have done business with Northside/Generac and continue to speak well of them. Northside's initial needs survey, done before contracting, was thorough and correctly matched the Generac unit to my needs. This confirmed calculations I had already done at the Generac website. The annual maintenance contract is reasonably priced.

It took a few months to actually get them out to install the generator but after several calls they finally got the job done. Price wise they easily beat their competitors and once present they were efficient and professional. I only wish it wouldn't have taken so long initially and that they would have given some sort of instruction on the generator itself.

I do apologize for the delay in getting your generator system installed. This was an unusually busy winter season for us. We do work diligently to provide new installations as quickly as possible while maintaining a workforce that is properly trained in Stand by Generators. Although we could sub contract some of the work, to expedite the installations. We find the overall quality of the installation is greatly improved by utilizing our properly trained technicians. This does however come at the price of requiring additional time to schedule the project during our peak winter seasons. We always appreciate our customers understanding that to provide a superior project while maintaining a competitive price there are necessary trade off's that have to be made. I truly appreciate your taking the time to let me know that our technicians preformed properly and that we need to work on improving our production times. We will be contacting you to provide you with an additional walk through of your system operation and allow time for any questions that you may have as well. Thanks you very much for your business and taking the time to let us know what we can improve. Feel free to contact me at any time with any questions or to address any concerns you may have, now or in the future. Sincerely, Northside Power

Here it is a few days away from February 2015 and nothing. No phone call, no email, no letter, no postcard, no notice. Nothing. Never heard back from them. If they are not able to get that initial customer service right which is important and not difficult to accomplish, then how am I suppose to believe they are going to complete the much more complicated job of installing and maintaining a complex piece of machinery?
Description of Work: Contacted Northside during October 2014 and they promptly sent someone to evaluate my home and to make recommendations for the proper size backup generator. He told me that Northside had prior work commitments which certainly was understandable. I understood I would have to wait for an opening in their schedule and was informed that it would be in early December 2014 and perhaps in late November if the work crews could clear their busy schedule. Again, very understandable. And I was just hoping they could get to me sometime before Christmas. So perhaps this portion of the review gets an A or B+ except I didn't contact Northside just for an initial sales call. I was hoping to purchase a backup generator and have it installed and maintained through Northside.

I want to apologize for the delay in getting your system installed, My office staff was overwhelmed by an unusually high demand during 2014/2015 winter. Although it is not a valid excuse for not contacting you we where blessed with several medical necessity installations that I always move forward in the schedule to protect their health. I do apologize for the lack of communications from my office to keep you informed as the schedule was changing. We will be in touch with you to apologize directly and help us determine how we can improve our communications in the future since our customers are our top priority and your opinion matters to us.

Description of Work: I asked them to provide an estimate for installation of a turnkey standalone generator. Their rep arrived promptly, explained everything to me and had an estimate ready the next morning. For financial reasons I have not yet contracted for installation, but I plan to do so in the near future. In the meantime, they have been very helpful in answering additional questions I may have, etc.

Northside was one of the few companies that were interested in installing a whole house system. Of the four companies I contacted only one other came out. But I had a hard time trying to get them to return my calls. Northside came out and performed a very detailed review of what was needed. They showed up on the day they said. Job went well, the plumber showed up for gas connection, followed a few hours later by the installation team. The team worked well into a very cold evening to get the generator installed. They tested the generator and performed a whole house test. All went as expected. Very professional group of people. Would highly recommend this company.

Called them because according to the Generac website they are a listed as a POWERPRO Premier provider ... translation: they carry virtually all the parts needed for repairs. I was fairly certain my problem was fuels related (generator would start but then bog down/stall). Sure enough, the technician troubleshot the problem to a faulty/dirty 11-month old NG regulator. He told me he didn't have the part and would return the next day (Wednesday) to remove the bad part and install a new one. Unfortunately, Wednesday came and went, and nothing ... I waited until Friday morning to inquire about the replacement part. The person I spoke with had no clue what I was talking about; said she would speak with the tech and get my an update later in the day. Not surprisingly, I never got a return/follow-up call. So I called again on Monday, spoke with the same person, who apologetically explained the tech had informed her there were no gas regulators available at their supplier. I found that hard to swallow, but went along with the explanation. I did some digging, found the part number, called the supplier myself, and they did have the part in stock. Hmmm? The only reason I couldn't get (and install the part myself) is that I'm not licensed, but it's a very straight-forward job. After another week of waiting, I called again the following Friday (now 3 weeks into this ordeal) and I was told the tech had gotten the part and he would be out Tuesday (his normal day in my area) to install it. How fortunate! (yes, plenty of cynicism). Appointment is made for 8AM and at 930 he's still not here. Finally shows up and installs the part in less than 10 minutes according to my wife (I'd already left for work). Incredibly, he tells her the company would send me a bill for 2 service calls. Sure enough, that's precisely what happened. When I called to complain about 2 service calls despite it only being one job, it was explained that the gas and time spent needed to drive to my house required 2 different service calls. I grudgingly paid their outrageous bill, and still feel like I've been robbed. Aside from their atrocious customer service and failure to follow up (I had to continuously call them up), NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I BEEN CHARGED FOR 2 SERVICE CALLS on any job I've contracted! Especially from a provider that supposedly carries most parts, most assuredly an NG regulator, which is a non-specific part. Deal with them at your own risk! I WILL NEVE USE THEM AGAIN!

I am truly sorry for your experience but I do need to set the record straight as to the events of your repair. Your call was diagnosed and repaired in 7 working days. call originated on 7-10 diagnosed 7-15 and repaired 7-22. The problem your equipment had was an installation issue with the gas regulator installed upside down allowing water to enter the vent. Improper installations are not covered by the manufactures warranty. This would have possibly been covered by an installation warranty from your installer. On your behalf we did get the regulator warranted through the supplier even though it was installed upside down, so there was no charge for the regulator. The labor charges where because it was an installation defect and not a manufacture defect, and we did not install your unit therefore can not warrant that which we did not do nor will the manufacturer warrant an installation defect. Although the final repair trip was short there was the time in getting the regulator, negotiating the warranty for you, and then installing the regulator right side up so the problem will not occur in the future. Although you termed the charges as service charges they are simply put labor charges for the time spent making your repair. We strive to take care of our customers. Although on occasion there are problems outside of our control such as installations by others that result in faulty equipment operation. These situations can create delays in repairs since we have to locate parts that did not originate through our supply lines and therefore are not normal stock items. We do stock a large supply of manufacturers parts for several manufacturers. But it is impossible to expect to stock every part that someone may install when completing the installation of a Home Stand by Generator. Once again I want to apologize for your experience with us.

I contacted them in November, 2013 and they came to do an in-house evaluation. They gave two estimates, one for whole-house and a $500 less estimate that would not cover the whole-house. I chose the whole-house as that choice seemed the logical one given the price difference. They are the #1 Genreac distributor in the state and given the situations we have had in the state, there was a wait list. I signed a contract in November, 2013 and the installation occurred February, 2014. They were very professional, demonstrated the generator and gave instructions regarding its use. It is remotely checked weekly at a specified time and if anything is wrong an email is sent to them and they come and fix whatever is wrong. If I'm remembering correctly, there is a 5 year warranty included in the price, with needed oil changes and battery replacement. It has not been used as yet but if the situation occurs, I will be one of two houses in the neighborhood with power. Very satisified with their company.

Customer Update: generator was installed 6/27/2013, it was an outstanding piece of work, would recemmend them to anyone. They came out right away when I called them. They measured everything and figured out what they would have to put in, transfer switches and so forth. It is currently on order and we are awaiting the delivery of the generator. It is expected to be in by the end of the month, which is when I will have a better idea of how it went with them. So far, I'm very pleased. I know some people that have done business with them in the past, they are friends of ours and he is an electrical engineer that specializes in power plants. They said from their experience they knew the company and their work. I think they are very organized. They are very good, very punctual. They have a huge demand. I spent 9 days at Christmas without power for one of those huge ice storms out here and they have been putting generators in steady since then, so they have a backload on. We have ordered it, with no deposit required, but the service is not yet complete so there are some things I can't grade.

Description of Work: This is the second time I have written a review for Northside Power. Not sure what happened to the first but have no problem doing another one! I had three companies do estimates for a whole house generator. Northside was not the cheapest, but certainly the most professional. They were the ONLY company to check specifications for the central air unit and other appliances. The unit that was quoted by the other two companies were very inadequate and one was a lot more expensive. The unit runs weekly as designed, runs the whole house, a/c and all. On top of that they finance, interest free, for a year. Two other friends have bought from Northside and the story is the same with them as well.
