Came out in early July to look at proposed job of building deck to be level with the backdoor threshold so as to accommodate smooth exit for powerchair. He gave suggestions to increase size, screen it in and place doors in a different place than I had asked. I agreed to all his suggestions. He brought a contract on 7/20 which I signed (without paying careful attention). He said he wouldn't be able to begin work until approximately September. Shortly after he left I called and said we wanted to use a different color composite decking. There was no contact from him on the approximate date. When I called him a few days later I was told it would be another two weeks before he could start. Called him about two and half weeks later, was told it would another two weeks. He finally began work on 11/18/13. Discovered he had estimated the cost using my original dimension rather than the one we agreed on after he suggested expanding the size. Built a deck frame that is absolutely solid. They began putting the composite planks on the frame by screwing them in from the top, leaving the screw heads visible. I stopped them, went to a supply store and bought a tool to install the planks in a way that hid the screw heads. This upset him considerably. After installing the aluminum framing for the screen (another misunderstanding as to type of screen) he spray-painted the raw aluminum edges and screw heads without covering the composite decking, resulting in paint over-spray on a good portion of the decking. His comment for not protecting the deck was "Shoulda', coulda', woulda' didn't". Three scrubbings removed the paint, as well as some color from the decking. The job was finished on 12/4/13. The deck is approximately 1 inch below the door threshold, causing a rough exit for a powerchair. The final cost was about fifty percent more than the original estimate. I understood and paid in full. He said the screened-in deck would be "bug-proof", but there are spaces where the aluminum frame meets the eave. I called him and told him about the problems. He said he would be back to do the caulking "next week" and if I could tell him how to smooth the exit he would do it. Haven't seen nor heard from him. He built a solid deck that looks good from a distance. If you decide to hire him, pay very close attention to the contract details and require a list of materials to be used and the cost, as well as an agreement that the cost of any unused, whole materials be deducted from the final cost. I was left with approximately 3 to 4 hundred dollars worth of decking and screen. And be prepared for a battle of wills.
Description of Work: Built screened-in deck - finally!

They did ok. They have come out several times to fix leaks in the covers, but we are still having issues. I appreciate that they've come out so many times.

Our contact with Rob of Aluminum Speciality Company was positive from the very beginning. We called and asked him to come have a look at what needed to be done, whether or not he would take on the job as it was a rather small one, and give us an estimate. He told us when he could come and then called the next morning to say he was on his way. He did the necessary measurements and told us he would call with an estimate. He called within a few days with his estimate and we made the decision to have him perform the work. He then came to our home with a written contract for our signature and gave us an approximate start date. He had to order all of the materials for the job. He called back when he said he would and we set up the date for the job. Bad weather was expected so we made the decision to hold off for a day or two. Rob was willing to work with us on that and came on the day we agreed upon. Rob showed up at exactly the time he said he would and proceeded to work on the sunroom enclosure. He had to remove the existing enclosure before he could begin the replacement. He hauled away all of the old materials and when he and his worker left after the first day, you couldn't even tell they had been here! They did not leave any mess at all. He returned the next morning when he said he would and proceeded to finish the job. Before he left, the young man with him cleaned the windows and doors and vacuumed my floor! The materials he used were far superior to what was there originally. Again, when he left, you couldn't even tell he had been here. But we knew he had been here because we were left with a beautiful, more energy efficient sunroom that we thoroughly enjoy! I would highly recommend Rob and Aluminum Specialty Company.
Description of Work: We had a sunroom enclosure that needed to be replaced.

Bob Lysdale (business owner) did an absolutely outstanding job on this deck rebuild and new roof. Even though the company is named Aluminum Specialty Company, they do it all including wood decks. He met me at the house for an estimate at a time convenient for me and sent a written estimate. He presented a couple of options including screening in the deck and adding more deck space. After a couple of weeks I decided to just go with wood railings instead of screens and to just keep the existing deck area. After 2-3 weeks he called to schedule the install. He striped the old deck boards and stairs and replaced them with new lumber and added special trim to make the deck look awesome. Then he installed the insulated aluminum cover (roof). What a difference the roof made! He matched the existing trim color and trimmed out the new roof to make it look great like it was always meant to be there! He also did all the interface work to join it with the roof on the house and included a new gutter on the deck roof. Finally, he did a fantastic job on the lattice skirt underneath the deck. This really made it look good since the deck floor is about 5 feet above ground level. Rob does not rush his work--he takes his time to get it done right and makes sure the customer is happy. The price seemed reasonable but I must say that I did not get any other estimates for this job.
Description of Work: Rebuilt old 10' x 20' wood deck, stairs and wood lattice skirt. Install insulated aluminum deck roof with aluminium posts and gutter. Tied roof into existing asphalt shingle roof.

Their price was reasonable for the size. The owner of the company was very helpful. He came out within a day of calling to give an estimate and then had the work done within a week.

I had used them before. It went very well. They did a great job. They are always on-time. They got the job finished exactly when they said it would be done. He didn't want any down payment. He said he wanted us to look at his work and inspect it before we paid a dime.
Description of Work: They screened in my porch.
