Down to Earth was the low bid on this project. And unfortunately I am left the outcomes of the lowest bid. The retaining wall appears strong enough but the finished product and outcome was far below what I had expected. Several months after the wall was completed the earth behind the wall began to cave in, leaving large holes along the wall. After several calls to Down to Earth a person came to our home. He looked at the wall and said that it was not properly backfilled and that there was not enough gravel placed behind the wall. He then asked me who built the wall? I then told him it was your company, Down to Earth. obviously he was somewhat chagrined and said they would have to come back and backfill the wall with more gravel. Several months and several calls later they did bring a man out who set out upon taking the wall apart and back filling and packing gravel behind the wall. after the redoing of the wall there significant amount of construction debris (pieces of block, gravel, empty tubes of construction adhesive) that was left strewn around the site. Even after the back fill there was still an insufficient amount of topsoil brought in to reach the bottom of the concrete patio deck. I have been hand picking gravel out of the grass behind the wall for months for fear of hitting it with the lawn mower. After the redo there was more debris left at the site and in the drop area. Some of the blocks were chipped, and areas of construction adhesive now exposed on the top cap of the wall, and drain pipes were filled gravel. The wall was completed but the finished product leaves much to desired as it appears to be shoddily done, with debris strewn about the construction site, inadequate protection from erosion (which was the original purpose of constructing the wall) a project that does not look as it was completed. And now leaves me with new problems and less than desirable visual impact of the wall. Further more the company never got back to me regarding another project I had inquired about, Building a brick mailbox and surrounding landscaping. But in consideration of the way the retaining wall was completed that may been a good thing.
