I'd have rated the company zero stars, if there was such a choice. They are involved in clear corporate fraud and will do anything to deny the claim. My claim on the cracked sewage pipe deep inside the internal wall of the house was denied on the basis of the alleged damage caused by freezing! The plumber who did the repair laughed his head off when he heard this nonsense. My house is about 100 years old, and that was an original pipe, which failed from normal wear and tear after 100 years! I'm pursuing a legal case against this fraud of a company, and my lawyer is considering a class action suit based on the pattern of defrauding their customers. Do not buy this home warranty, as this is a joke of a business that only cares about taking your money upfront and to never pay you back if a problem occurs. The company is not accredited by a BBB, and has nearly 1900 complaints filed against it through BBB. Beware and stay clear of these fraudsters.
Description of Work: Replacing a cracked original cast iron sewage pipe inside a wall. The repair took two days and $1,900. The CHW did not pay me back a penny and fraudulently denied the claim based on the damage allegedly caused by freezing.

Had a water Stay away from Choice Home Warranty. I just had an electric water heater go bad. Choice Home Warranty sent a technician and I paid the service call fee. Next I get an email from Choice Home Warranty saying “Congratulations your claim is approved” and that the non-covered costs to install the water heater would be $568!!! How absurd! What good is a home warranty when you’re required to pay that kind of money for “non-covered installation costs”??? I could buy a water heater at Lowe’s and install it myself, all for less than $568. I also paid extra to have my hot tub covered under my warranty policy but when it broke CHW would not repair it. This company will gladly take your premium and then will either find a reason not to repair a covered item or will charge you as much to fix it as you’d pay without a warranty. I will definitely not be renewing my policy with CHW.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Choice Home Warranty. After purchasing their "Total Plan" for extra coverage. I recently filed a claim when my AC stopped blowing cold air. Choice sent out Luxor Heating and Air to diagnose the issue. Luxor found that the fan on the outside condenser unit had split in half, likely due to normal wear and tear on the bearings or bolts, which caused further damage to the condenser coils. I paid Luxor $100 for the service. Despite this clear diagnosis, Choice Home Warranty denied my claim, stating the damage wasn’t caused by normal wear and tear, completely ignoring the expert opinion from the company they sent. What’s frustrating is that they will send out their own third-party expert, only to go directly against their diagnosis. Meanwhile, the consumer is still stuck paying the service fee for a diagnosis that Choice disregards. Additionally, if this issue wasn’t caused by normal wear and tear, and there was no physical damage to the outside of the unit, then what else could it be? Several forums, websites, and even the manufacturer, Goodman, provided me with information confirming that this type of issue can be caused by normal wear and tear and the age of the unit. Yet, Choice chose to ignore all of this evidence. I would not recommend this company based on my experience. They will say and do anything to get out of paying your claim and there is nothing you can do about it. I even tried to appeal the decision and had no luck. Customer support is rude and very poor quality. They talk over you and scream at you when you call in about claims. Claim process is long. This company is fraudulent and should be looked into for criminal consumer fraud.

This is THE worst home warranty company I have ever had the displeasure of using. Even their contractors they send out say that this company is terrible. Their response time is terrible at best. Their lack of customer service is beyond reproach. I'm still waiting on my "payout" from my claim on my fridge. It's been close to a month. Oh and they are only sending Lowes gift cards, because that is what they send out in place of cash..... Don't bother trying to work with the claims department. My AC was out for almost a full week. They refused to send somebody out for an emergency repair. I have canceled my policy. I'm leaving this review here and everywhere possible so that others can avoid the same situation.

If you are searching for a home warranty company look somewhere else. Under no circumstances should you use this company!!! Not only are they slow to respond to emergencies, they don't have an emergency plan or contractors on call for emergency situations...48 hours response time!!! Think about that and look for a company that has better response times, emergency services and better coverage on your home. I would give them zero stars if I could STAY AWAY...STAY FAR,FAR AWAY!!

I would not recommend Choice Home Warranty. They look for every opp to not pay a claim. They waste your time dragging out the process. They are misleading and dishonest they make lots of promises and then don't live up to their obligations.

Do not buy this warranty. In 2019, my refridgerator broke. From then until now, this same refridgerator broke three more times. Each time I paid the $85 for a new claim. Choice replaced multiple components, including the compressor, but the problem was never really fixed. The new compressor then burned and cracked the water line which flooded by first floor and part of my basement, causing 13K in damages. After being told conflicting information from multiple customer service reps and technicians, being no-showed by technician twice, and dealing with unhelpful/rude reps, Choice agreed to replace the refridgerator. But, not really because the compamy offered me less than half of what an equivalent refidgerator costs. This company is a total scam.

THE WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HORRIBE!!!!! Their customer service is in the call center who knows where, they tell you it's in New Jersey, but finally one of them said that they are out of the country. They cannot help you escalate anything since the only means of communication they have are email and text. I begged to have someone come out as soon as possible, instead they scheduled someone two days from when I called. Living in a very hot climate all the food melted and I had to throw it out. The technician was also impossible to get in touch with since it was all automated and if you did not pick one of the choices, you got disconnected. Bottom line; NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, NO ONE CARES, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN!

The worst home warranty company. Scammers that trick you to buy the insurance but will have you on the phone for hours talking to people that are trained to repeat that the claim is being processed but no result. We are trying to resolve the issue with our front load washer since mid June. First they said they would fix it. Then they said they would replace it and offered a Lowes gift card. Their offered expired within 30 days -so be careful -they don't mention this anywhere. They said I have to start a new claim . I did ( so minus $ 130 dollars so far) . The new technician told us that he would ask for a replacement. For two weeks Choice was claiming that they were waiting on a replacement part. I contacted the technician and he told me that they never responded to him. So I called them back and after hours on the phone they said they would make an exception and authorize the replacement. And then I get an email that I have to send them the invoice from the technician to get reimbursement. I all back they say they have authorized an e-gift and I should receive it in 30 days. I kindly ask for a reimbursement check because we need a washer and I am already looking into buying one ( in case you don't know laundromats are not cheap plus the hassle). After 20 minutes on the phone, they assure me that they have gotten an approval for a check to be sent once I submit my receipt. I went and bought the washer and when I tried to upload the receipt the system responded I am not approved for one. This insurance is Not Worth your time and money. Please don't be tricked by the lower price they offer. Save your sanity and just don't give them your business.

August 7, 2023 This is a HORRIBLE COMPANY you should avoid at all costs!! They are master marketers with a glib, slick sales team and a glitzy, seductive national advertising campaign. Everything works seamlessly and you can rest assured all your appliances are covered . . . until you make a claim. Then it is an utter nightmare. They send unqualified techs, deny responsibility to pay most claims despite the clear language of the contract, and finally, if all else fails, relentlessly stall paying your claim. Let me illustrate: They agreed to pay $300 to settle a claim in early April 2023. At that time Choice Warranty assured me that the claim had been "paid" and that I should expect to receive payment in 30 days. 45 days later when I had not received payment, I called (and trust me, you can count on protracted delays on hold with every call, and several transfers to another department when they finally answer) and I was informed that the $300 had been "processed." I asked if that meant "paid" as they had told me 45+ days earlier. They would not answer but again assured me the check would be mailed in . . . surprise . . . another 30 days. 70 days from the date the check had been, according to them "paid" I still had not received payment. I called (wait . . .hold . . .transfer) and they said the check had been "authorized". What? First it was "paid", then "processed" then "authorized.” Here is the kicker: It was never paid! And can you escalate your claim to someone in management who hopefully can resolve your issue? It would be easier to make a call to speak to the Pope or the President of the United States than speak to a CW manager. You can NEVER speak to a manager . . . ever! In sheer frustration, I cancelled the plan. That activates their next strategy: STALL! They will do everything in their power to dissuade you from doing this, promising to extend your policy multiple months at no charge or tossing in free roof repairs. I refused--I could not wait to be rid of this company. When we finally agreed on the exact prorated amount, they would reimburse me for cancelling my contract under the terms of the contract ($792), they did make send a partial payment in 45 days. But they only paid $492 ($300 dollars less than the agreed upon amount). They provided no justification for the reduced payment. . . just another strategy to wear you down. I called 4 times (wait . . . hold. . transfer) attempting to get them to honor the agreed upon payment. Finally, 63 days after cancellation, they paid the remaining $300. All told, I called Choice Warranty over 15 times over a 4-month period and spent hours and hours attempting to persuade them to do what they agreed to do and more importantly, what the contract required them to do. Bottom Line: You have two options in dealing Choice Warranty: Option 1: Believe all their grandiose promises which truly are amazingly reassuring, pay your premium and hope fervently that you never have to make a claim . . . OR Option 2: Take the premium you would pay Choice Warranty and flush it down the toilet. Trust me: The second option will be far less stressful and just as valuable!!

Our AC was not working. Placed a claim and the technician came out to find a leak where two coils had rubbered together. CHW stated the leak was caused by rust and corrosion. The attached pictures clearly show the cause of the leak. Copper does not rust. CHW would not budge on this and said I needed to prove this. Please, please do not use this company. They are the WROSE and rude on the phone.

Horrible experience getting an AC system replaced. Choice sent a technician, didn't accept his diagnosis that a replacement was needed and was sending a 2nd tech. 2nd tech was not working with Choice anymore, due to them not paying. Choice suggested I start their reimbursement process and find my own tech, which I was forced to do after 4 weeks of no AC. He diagnosed the same problem, a replacement was needed, we submitted the info and an estimate. Choice requested more info, which I provided. My AC tech replaced the old unit with the quoted equipment. Choice comes back a over a week later and asks for proof maintenance was completed, but when I provide the evidence the new unit was installed, they denied the claim, stating the repair was never approved. All of this was by email, they never returned calls. Every interaction was always deflecting and asking for more info. I initially made the request for service on 4/21. I had to complete the whole repair and pay for it on my own on 6/24. Don't use Choice.

The worst company I've come across!
Description of Work: My water heater went out on 6/13, but I thought maybe it was just a fluke. I filed a claim on 6/15. It took them 2 days to find a tech and it was going to be another 4 days for the tech to be able to come out. I reached out and the tech came on 6/19. He thought it was the pilot light. He lit it and I told him less than 2 hours of him leaving the issued remained. He came back out and told me 3 parts needs to be replaced for my issue to be properly resolved. We notified Choice. Choice authorized one part to be replaced and said come back if that does not work. That’s crazy. I have gone back and forth with Choice many times about the issue because they need pictures of the failed item, which is an component of the water heater. I have been told 4 separate times my issues was escalated and that someone would call. They never cal. I call and I'm left on hold for long periods of times and repeatedly hung up on. I'm going into week 3 without hot water due to waiting on a part and going back and forth with Choice. It's extremely disappointing. And they had the nerve to call me yesterday about renewing my policy. Absolutely not after this. I should've known better to renew last year when the agent who was renewing my policy mentioned a 3 year deal if I paid that day. I declined and he said something along the lines like "You don't have $1,200" Another agent yelled "oh my God" while we were on the phone and I was explaining my reason for the call. Agents always refuse to transfer me to a manager when I request it. I’m just extremely disappointed with their conduct and I would advise anyone who has them to cancel it and run. So I am basically having to buy the other 2 parts the technician told Choice were needed to properly get my water heater to work and pay for additional labor.

Steer clear. Choice home warranty is NOT a BBB business and is classified as "C" by the BBB-- FOR A REASON. I just completed my first claim for a microwave with a broken control panel. I had to pay a technician $65 to assess the problem. He was unprofessional-did not have a business card or receipt for services, pants below his underwear. The determination was the microwave needed to be replaced. I was offered $191 for the same microwave that retails for $449 at Lowe's and Best Buy. Payment was to be in the form of a Lowe's e-gift card, even though I have coverage at Best Buy that includes installation. So, I would pay $453 for the microwave (with tax) + 129 installation + 65 service fee, bringing the grand total to $647. That's an underpayment of $456. How is that at all appropriate for a microwave that just went out of warranty less than a year ago? Also, I opted for a cash payment which will take 30 days. Choice is a giant waste of money. Buyer beware

I have been without AC in my home for almost a month now because this company keeps declining repairs and when you call them they give you the run around and tell you they will have someone else call you 4 days later due to there busy schedule which never happens. The technican that looked at my unit said the expansion valve is bad which lead to my coil freezing up causing a restriction in the duct work. No where did the techican say it was a restriction in expansion valve. Choice home said they declined due to dirt in the ac line that restricted the expansion valve and that's not normal wear so not covered. Then they sent that to the landlord which is out of the country after I told them she's out of the country and they need to contact me. My landlord has made it clear to them that I am authorized on this account. Still trying to get them to get my unit repaired within the policy and they refuse and delay. Oh and I have told them I have an 82 year old in the house that this needs repaired asap.

I am increasingly convinced that this company is basically a scam. In 2 years of usage, I've contacted them 3 times, all on the same issue: 1) 'repair' service came, charged me a deductible and made a dishwasher 'fix' that didn't work, 2) they came again, I got charged a 2nd deductible fee. When they arrived, dishwasher was working but poorly. When they left, dishwasher was not working AT ALL. I requested replacement under warranty. 3) replacement was apparently denied and a repair part ordered, it's now on 'extended backlog delay'. WE HAVE NO WORKING DISHWASHER and we absolutely cannot get through to a live person at the warranty company. Sent several e-requests, none have been replied to.

I've had experience with several home warranty companies and Choice Home Warranty is the absolute worst. Any claim is rejected, rejected and rejected again for the smallest loopholes. Only after multiple follow ups do they finally acknowledge reality and then they offer the flimsiest coverage and payment options possible. In contesting an absurd rejection I even had one of their claims specialists (Sylvanna Green-Hazel) tell me that there's "nothing more to discuss, they're not revisiting the rejection" and then hang up on me mid-sentence. Maybe they're a cheaper option than others (we took a broker's recommendation here and didn't really shop companies), but life's too short to have these people in your life. Run or skip the service entirely and save your money. If you're using these guys, it's money flushed down the toilet.

Horribly. Their allegedly meticuliously screened HVAC technician was not only unlicensed, he had prior unlicensed activity complaints filed against him in association with worked he'd done for Choice, & he was a convicted Felon on Probation. Choice doesn't pay for diagnostics, so I paid for diagnostics which Lindstrom Air would later come in & say were never performed. Choice denied with a long explanation about rust, wear & tear, etc, even tho I just had routine maintenance. Lindstrom Ait said they found nothing that was in Choice's denial, & this was typical fraudulent denial activity on Chouce's part. When confronted, Choice did not respond. A complaint has been filed with the NJ Attorney General. Any good reviews are fake.

DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THIS COMPANY!!!! This is our second year with Choice Home Warranty on our rental. We've had them come out on a couple of service calls and that went well. Well as soon as we had a major issue, they are NOWHERE to be found. We filed a claim for AC service, they came out, decided that we needed a new unit because WE did not clean ac and they would not pay for it. I had proof of maintenance on ac and filed a dispute. This was on September 3rd, I was assigned a claim representative that I would work exclusively with me, well that was a joke, to this day, I've called him and Choice hundreds of times, I've sent emails and NOTHING!!!! I've asked to speak to a supervisor and am told there is no such thing, they promise someone will call, NO ONE calls back and they can care less. We ended up paying out of pocket for this expense, what's the use of a warranty company IF they cant even respond much less take care of the problem. Like me there are literally hundreds of the same complaints on their website. Looking into filing a class action suit.
