I seem to remember that I got Mr. Allen's name from your files. He was very prompt in returning my call and he and his men were very nice and did an excellent job on my ceiling. It was his suggestion to add the crown moulding and it looks fantastic. The job was completed in two days. I did call Mr Allen again in Feb '11 to repair the sheetrock on a wall in the living room that my daughter accidently fell against and knocked a hole in it. I guess sheetrock put up in 1953(age of house) doesn't hold up as well as new!! Sadly, Mr Allen died in April of 2011. I do not know if his business is still in operation. Again sadly, that ceiling was ruined in the tornado of 4/27/2011.(It was repaired by another company which I have reported to your list.
Description of Work: replace sheetrock ceiling in livingroom adding crown mouldingand painting the ceiling.

Returned my initial call promptly, employee setup appointment for estimate, and arrived promptly for appointment He gave me the estimates for the job and and an appointment was set up. On the first day, they arrived promptly and were very good about moving my furniture and protecting the carpet. The only problem ensued when part of the ceiling fell, spilling blown insulation onto part of the carpet and the TV. The rest of the job went well, with completion in a shorter time than estimated. Now I have a beautiful ceiling that looks great. The workers did a good job of cleaning up and did not leave any cigarette butts in my yard.
Description of Work: Replace living room ceiling, apply crown moulding.

We are remodeling our 33 year old bathroom. The textured ceiling was peeling off and the walls where wallpaper was removed were in bad shape and we could not get the 3 walls cleaned, patched and smoothed enough for painting. I went to our local paint store (Cabiness Paint), whom I have dealt with for 30 years and they recommended Larry Allen (along with 2 other people) to call for an estimate to do both jobs. Larry Allen was the only 1 of the 3 that returned my calls. He works independently and not for a company. Larry came the same afternoon to observe the project and give us an estimate of the work. He said he could perform the tasks for labor and materials costs. He explained that he worked with 1 other person to complete the jobs he does. We told him that we wanted him to do the job. We explained that we were leaving for an extended vacation in a few days and told him what date we would be returning. He said he would review his schedule and have a time firmed up by the time we returned. He said to call him the day after we got back and he would set up the work dates. We called the day after returning and he said he could start the work in 2 days and would be done in 1 day. He specified a time of arrival and called us when he was on his way to our home that morning. He arrived on time and started promptly, with his fellow worker. They both worked quickly, efficiently and knew what they were doing. He explained to us that the ceiling texture had initially been applied incorrectly, with no undercoat, and that was why it was peeling off. The workers scraped the ceiling, gave the ceiling drywall a primer coat, then put 2 finish coats of ceiling white paint on. It was very well done. He asked about the paint I already had on the walls and I told him it was just the primer coat, so he asked if it was OK for them to cut in the ceiling paint onto my primer. I said that was fine, because I was still going to do final painting. The walls were in bad condition where we had taken the wallpaper off. The adhesive came off unevenly and there were scrapes and gouges to fill. Also, previous lighting fixtures left holes in the wall and the previous hardware left holes. Larry and his worker filled, patched and applied a thin skim coat to the walls to even them out. Then he applied a primer coat of paint to the entire area. He was pleasant, conscientious, clean, attentive, prompt and kept contact with us before and during the work. I would use him again for painting, drywall, ceiling work.
Description of Work: 2 room bathroom; needed popcorn ceiling texture removed and ceiling painted flat. Also, 3 walls of bathroom had wallpaper removed by home owner, but the walls needed patching and finishing in preparation for accepting paint and having a smooth surface.
