They caught a dangerous situation - a fire hazard, and they called the inspector. First and foremost, they came right away, and they put an h-vac system, charged what they needed to charge, they were in and out of here - I didn't even know they were here, at one point, until I heard the banging on the roof and they were just very considerate, very respectful.
Description of Work: Farley & Hysaw Heating & Air put in an h-vac system and they caught a very dangerous situation that another contractor had put in.

We were referred to this company by another customer who said that Steve Hysaw had put in a healthy HVAC system by following Building Biology specifications and consulting with a Building Biologist who came into Alabama from out-ot-state. When I spoke with Steve he seemed knowledgable about healthy house building practices going into great detail about what he recommended for our new house project which really got our hopes up that he could provide us with a healthy HVAC air system (most other HVAC people do not understand about creating a healthy air system). Steve said he would get us an estimate for what we wanted. After this phone call, Steve would NOT return any further phone calls or emails. That was in June and we still never have heard a word back from him. That is so ultra unprofessional and rude.
Description of Work: We were attempting to get an estimate for a healthy HVAC system for our new home construction, but Steve Hysaw would not return phone calls or emails, and therefore we never received the requested estimate.

He misrepresented the product that he was going to put in. The air conditioner went out and the furnace was of the age where it was going to need to be replaced. We had three phases instead of a single phase. We bought the best furnace that they offered. The best air conditioner was not offered unless the air conditioner was changed to the single phase. There were 4 levels of air conditioners. The 3rd and 4th were only available with the single phase so I was stuck buying the 1st or 2nd level. I said I wanted the 2nd level which was called the comfort level. He said that it wasn't going to look like the brochure when it came in. It didn't have louvers and it would look like the base model when it came in. I asked for the model number. He put the unit in while I wasn't there. I looked at the model number and serial number and it was the base model when I had asked for the comfort level. He didn't put in the unit that I paid for. I complained and he told me that I owed him an extra couple of thousand dollars because they made a mistake in their quote and they had to do extra work. I had gone with the exact same model. He misrepresented the product and then tried to charge me more money. The building inspector found three code violations when they came out. He tried to cheap me.

I got a quote on Tuesday, and had to make sure I could afford it. So I called back on Wednesday and said they could install it on Friday. They came early on Friday and said the guy on Tuesday hadn't warned them ahead of time of where the unit was, and how complicated the install was going to be. "He did it again!" is what I heard. However, they proceeded to work around the difficulties and install the unit. They were very professional about finding gallons of water under the old furnace and got a wet vac to clean it all up. They also put cardboard down to avoid messes as much as possible. They installed the new unit, showed me the instruction manuals, and gave me some tips on keeping it well kept. They couldn't finish the install of the filter, though, and said that they would be back the next week. I was so happy to feel cold air, I didn't mind. However, they left the heat off and it took me a while to figure out how to get that back on. They did come back the next week after I called (couldn't make it on the day that they'd originally planned) and were apologetic about the heat problem. Thankfully, they charged me no more than the original quote, which to me was a big deal considering that it wasn't an easy install.

Steve came to give me an estimate. He was very helpful in giving different options for the type of new unit and prices for each. The prices were significantly better than those I got from another contractor in town, Banks Quarles. When they came to put in the unit, the crew was in a big hurry and, to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if they cut a few corners. Although I have no evidence of that except that they didn't put anything on the floor and left a large stain on the carpet. And, they left the breaker box partially put together. The company did fix the breaker box and the stain after we called to complain. Overall, I would use them again.
Description of Work: They replaced a heating and air unit with a heat pump.
