This review is for: Affordable Roofing run by Randy: 205-333-7723 and 205-394-0664 My initial call was during the week of March 21st, it took two attempts on the phone (I left a message the first time with his wife) and two appointments for him to come out to view the requested work. The first appointment was missed because his grandkids had a school conflict or some such. During the estimate he gave a written labor cost (no problem there) and a guesstimate of custom cut materials (his suggestion) of $75-100 for wood and metal. He stated he used Raymar (?) and that they were behind in production, so he wouldn't be able to start or complete the work before my travels the week of April 8th. He assured me he would have an estimate from Raymar or another company he used when I returned. Within a day or so he returned (I was at work) and removed the damaged wood. When I returned from my travels on April 16th there were no calls or notes in my mailbox from Randy. I called on May 7th and reached him on May 8th. He stated that he lost my phone number and why hadn't I called him sooner? (My house remained in the same location the whole time). He did not have an estimate but was sure the cost would be at least $200 for the wood alone. He would go to Raymar and have an actual number and time frame for milling and cutting the wood on Monday. I called on Tuesday and he said he would have it by Friday. Just bear with him and be patient. I, finally, received a call tonight (Wednesday May 22, 2013) and he asked if I was sitting down because the wood would cost $300. I stated that was unacceptable and that I priced the material at Lowe's based on a piece of wood he left in my yard. He asked if I was sure and kept talking over me. I informed him that the cost of the PVC (as opposed to wood) was the same $12 price he was quoting for the "custom" wood from Raymar. Then, he asked if I would be home between 8-8:30 in the morning and that he would come by then. Or did I have to go to work? Yes, I have to go to work and no I didn't want to leave the wood piece for HIM to compare. I wanted to compare the pieces to make the choice myself. Then, he stated that the "other" cost would be the metal for the flashing and that had to be custom cut. When I said Lowe's could cut the material and that he'd assured me that the metal wouldn't be an expense, he went back to me leaving the wood in my carport for him to compare. At this time, I pointed out that he wasn't listening to what I wanted and he suggested that "so, there won't be any confusion, because I'm not trying to scam you. And there's already confusion why don't you just get another contractor?" As he started up again, I said "Thank you, sir, have a good night." So, I still don't have my roof repaired and he has the original pieces of wood. He didn't do a lot of fast talking the first day but since then it was nothing but fast talking. Sad because, I had hoped to replace more than just the area that was damaged.
Description of Work: Gave a written cost for labor and a estimate for material cost on roof trim and flashing metal replacement.
