VULCAN GAS HEATING & COOLING

I contacted seven companies for estimates to replace our failing HVAC for the second story of our home. Of the seven, five responded in a timely manner, one was late and one never returned my call. Michael arrived to give his estimate on time. His estimate was $800 less than the closest competitor and was for well known, name brand equipment. I accepted Michael's bid and we made an appointment for installation to begin the next morning. There was a slight delay in getting the new equiptment so the installation started about a hour later than expected. Michael and his crew quickly got to work once the equipment arrived and had the old system removed and the new one installed within four to five hours. While they were here they were polite and thoughtful. When they were finished the install they cleaned up after themselves and other than the new equipment and much cooler air, you could not tell that they had been here. It has now been six years and that system is still operating vary well. The original unit was 17 years old when it started failing, I can only hope that this unit will last just as long.

Our existing service company, did the seasonal checkup and noticed some leakage from our aging a/c unit. I asked for a quote to replace the furnace and a/c together because they were both 15 years old. They gave me a quote that also included a heat pump and an air filtering system that I did not ask for. Then told me they were ''throwing them in for free because I was such a good customer.'' Their written quote for this whole package was about $5700. I asked Vulcan Gas, a new company trying to grow their business, for a quote on a replacement for the central heating & a/c units (the SEER rating was the same). Michael, the owner, gave me a written quote of $3,600 installed. NOTE: Consumer Reports says a new central heating and a/c unit at this SEER rating should cost around $3000 depending on your market. They performed exactly as promised.
