They were working in haze of summer and they were working ten our day and they never complain, stayed happy. They were easy to have around the house.
Description of Work: Steel Shield Metal Roofing put a steel roof on the house. The cost was $15000. They pull out the old roof then re-deck the roof and they insulated and then put a steel roof on top of that.

We hired Steel Shield Metal Roofing in August of 2008 to install a new Decra Shake Metal roof. We were given a "Special" price because we were the first in our neighborhood to purchase this type of roof. Mr. Wells wanted to show our house to potential customers which we agreed to. after a six week delay the new roof was installed. Then, after the first rain the problems started. I was on my front porch during a rain event and noticed water pouring out from behind my gutters. also, I noticed a gap between the gutter and fascia board. SS (Steel Shield) came out and added a piece a flashing but during the next rain I still had water running out from behind the gutter. I inspected the gutter and found it clogged with leaves because the roofers had installed a new section because they bent the old one and had used a 3 inch long screw to secure the downspout, about 2 1/2" too long! I cleaned the gutters out thinking this would fix the problem, but it did not. During the next rain I inspected the same areas all the way around the house and found multiple places where water was pouring out from behind the gutters. By this time all gutters were clean and properly functioning. Also, all gutters had flashing installed by SS. After many times trying to repair, SS became less and less willing to help. Finally after a year of dealing with the crew foreman I was able to get in touch with the owner/salesman Robin Wells who said he did not know I was having a problem. He asked me to give him a chance to make it right which I agreed. After 6 weeks and no contact from SS I called Mr. Wells. He stated that they didn't know what to do and that they were going to get Decra involved. This was in February of 2010. In June SS called and said the factory rep would be there the next week to look at my roof. The day they were to be there SS called and said the foreman had a family emergency (later found out to be a lie) and they would reschedule. August 26th the rep showed up (a day Late) and I asked him when SS had contacted him about my roof, he said "two weeks ago"! So, it took Mr. Wells 8 months to take any action at all. The rep noticed many things that had been done incorrectly and said the only thing he know to do was take the roof off and put it back on. Given SS past performance and lack of caring I refused to let them do that. Mainly because of the 8 months it took getting the rep out there but also the fact that they did not know what they were doing. When I was asked by Mr. Wells what I wanted to do I said you are not working on my house anymore. We will let an arbitrator decide. His only comment was "Have your lawyer call my lawyer and I'll see you in 3 or 4 years. I started the BBB process which was a joke. Mr. Wells delayed responding until the end of the second letter sent by the BBB and stated that they offered to fix my roof and the case should be dropped. Which the BBB did immediately. Then I had no choice but to contact a lawyer which helped me through the arbitration process. Mr. Wells require us to sign a binding arbitration agreement. Mr. Wells refused to arbitrate, so we had to set up a hearing before a judge. She ruled that we WOULD arbitrate. Shortly after the ruling we did arbitrate through the BBB and as expected the spineless arbitrator ruled in the middle by not refunding our money but making SS install a new roof per manufacturers specifications. The arbitrator also put a time limit on it which Mr. Wells totally ignored. After the time lapsed we went back to the very unhappy judge and she ruled that Mr. Wells WOULD follow the arbitrators order and placed a time to start on January 2nd 2012 and a completion date of January 27th 2012. The material was delivered one week before the deadline and actual work did not start until January 30th 2012. When talking to the new crew foreman, he know nothing about the fact that they were supposed to replace all the rotten fascia boards or even why they were replacing the roof. What little has been done does look better than the old but we will see how it performs during the next rain after it is completed. PLEASE do not use SS, they are no good. I give them an F-! BUYER BEWARE! We also had a verbal agreement that they would install ridge vents. The reason was there was no cost difference according to Mr. Wells. The old foreman told me they installed ridge vents but as it turned out they did not. Now the son, Thomas, refuses to install the ridge vents because it is not in the contract. We are currently filing a contempt motion before the same unhappy with SS judge. Hopefully she will do more the slap him on the wrist this time. After day one of installation this time, one of the guys dropped his safety harness and busted my new bay window and when I asked what happened he just laughed. Update. Well, it seems this ordeal will never end. After the first rain with me being home, I discovered that we still have the same problem. However, it is not as bad as it was before. Also, Steel Shield DID NOT fix all the problems they caused nor did they fix the problems correctly. The judge ordered SS to have this job completed by January 27, 2012, here it is March 10, 2012 and it is still not finished. What rotten wood they did replace was left unprimed and un-painted. I guess we will see this coming Thursday March 15, 2012 when we go to court for their Contempt hearing. Hopefully the judge will order SS to refund my money so I can move on. Oh how I wish I had followed my instincts when Mr. wells walked in my house 4 years ago, I should have sent him away, something just wasn't right. I felt like he was a crook then but now I know! I really hope this post helps someone from making the same stupid mistake I did.

Got an estimate from Thomas on Mon 10/3 who said that it was a small job and a crew would be out to make the repairs on Thu 10/6 after a foreman inspected the job in detail. On Monday 10/10 our carport contractor called Steel Shield but didn't get a firm date. He continued to call Steel Shield without success - he didn't want to put in drywall without a roof. Finally a foreman stopped by on Thu 10/13 to inspect. He told my husband that it would probably be repaired on Fri 10/14 and that he'd call to confirm. We never heard from him. Starting that next Mon we called and our carport contractor called too but neither of us could get a firm date or even a callback as was promised. Finally on 10/18 Steel Shield just showed up and made the repair.
Description of Work: We installed their roof in 1992 and the portion over the carport was destroyed in the April tornado by a large tree. We had this portion replaced as the carport was rebuilt. We have been very pleased with the quality of their product.
