This builder has begun building homes in our neighborhood. They have cleared off 4 lots and because the water table is too high they are unable to pour a foundation. The lots are at the enterance of our subdivision and now they are just a muddy swamp that is a breeding ground for mosquitos. It has been almost 2 months since they cleared the land and yet there are still torn down trees and brush just littering the lot. It is an eye sore and a health risk to our community that they apparently have a history of doing. Do not use these builders. They are too cheap to fix their own mistakes.

I would still reccommend them as a builder. Just make sure your bases are covered before you close on the house, and get technical specifications on the entire home and the technology installed before contracting. This does not change the fact that I have a serious issue, that is not being fixed or address. They will say they are still working on it and looking into it, but I went 3 months without resolution. They are not in a big hurry to fix the issue.
Description of Work: Stone Martin Builders is a relatively new builder that has neighborhoods going up in the Auburn/Opelika and Montgomery/Pike Road areas. They are selling fast due to thier large sizes and generious prices with good build quality. Contracted a new home construction with Stone Martin Builders for a new home in the Bon Terre Neighborhood in Pike Road, AL. Home was completed and closed on June 25th, 2011. We had some minor/standard issues with the home but they were quickly fixed. The house is of great build quality and construction. No cheap materials are found within the construction. Price for the quality and size of house for the Montgomery area was excellent. However, we have had an issue with our Air Conditioning Unit since they day we moved in on June 25th. Basically, a unit that was two small for the house was installed. It can not sustain a cool temperature throughout the summer months. We could set the thermostat on 72 and by 5 at night, the house would be 78-80 degrees. It would run constantly all day but could not keep the house cool, and after a month we had a 350+ power bill on a house that was built to be energy efficient and was suppose to reduce energy costs. It is now September 13th, 2011, and the issue has still not been fixed. The builder said that he AC guys were working on it, but to me he didn't care. He sold the house and closed, and even though I sweated in my sleep, he was done with it and went on to building the other homes. I have had the sub-contractor who works for the builder and who installed the unit out to my house over a dozen times to try to fix the issue. They try tweaking and replacing things, but even the builders own sub contractor says the unit is two small for the house, yet the builder has not replaced the unit. I actually got a call from the sub-contractor today, on September 13th ( I closed on the 25th and first reported the issue on June 30th) that he has a new valve he wants to install and try. I am not an HVAC expert, but a valve is not going to magically make a house 5-7 degrees cooler, make a AC unit only run half the day instead of 24/7, and make my power bill 150 bucks less a month like it should. If it did, this would be one magical valve. Others in the neighborhood with our house plan have the same issue. I contact the builders realtors who run the office to try and speak with the builder directly, but getting them to return phone calls is like waiting on congress to pass a law. They are too worried about selling homes, because they are the realators making a commission, and not taking care of serious issues previous buyers current owners have. Basically, once we closed on the house they had no interest. They are building homes SO fast, they are sacrificing customer service and customer care. While I am hopefully they address the issue we had, my opinion on the customer service and responsiveness has already been made.
