As stated by other reviewers, Mr. Stewart is indeed a master builder, a craftsman, with an artistic eye. His estimate was fair and very reasonable. He provided us with a clear contract. He was very honest and told us up front that he worked slowly, methodically, but on only one project at a time. He is a one-man company but well worth his expertise if you are not in a hurry to get a deck built. Although it took longer than a company with many workers, he finished the job on time. He cleaned up the area each day and explained what he was doing all along the way. As the deck was being built we would consult about how the deck was evolving and what would look best to flow toward and overlook our koi pond as well as tie in with a swimming pool in the plans. He would give us his opinions and creative suggestions and listen to ours. We came up with what I believe to be a beautiful, evolved plan that really met out needs better than the original proposal for only $400.00 more than the original quote of $5,874.00. I never felt that he was trying to upsell us. It was all about what would look and function best. We were glad to offer work for a hardworking, capable, local individual. We highly recommend Jim Stewart and plan to use him again on a future project on the other side of our porch.
Description of Work: A 10'x20' was proposed to replace an existing 10'x14' older deck. The deck was to have two sets of steps rather than the original one set and all railing was to be replaced using #2 pressure treated southern yellow pine and hot dipped galvanized ACQ approved fasteners. Haul off of all old decking was included in the contract. The final product which, with Mr. Stewart's suggestion for aesthetic appeal, consisted of the original planned deck plus a smaller, lower deck joined by steps. With our sloping yard this proved to be more appealing, being tierd wedding-cake style, toward our koi pond.

Jim did excellent work. He earned our trust and respect as a professional master builder. The new deck and steps are solidly built and very attractive. An appraiser who looked at the work in progress remarked that whoever was building it had been doing a fine job of building a sturdy deck. Jim showed up on time and put in the hours necessary to build a new deck and steps which my wife and I love. When family health issues prevented Jim from working for a few days, he made a point of contacting us and keeping us informed. With our agreement, Jim enlisted the help of a trusted master builder to take care of a few final tasks. We are highly satisfied with Jim's workmanship and the results he produced. My wife and I would gladly recommend him to our friends.
Description of Work: Removed old 10' x 20' elevated deck and steps. Hauled away materials from old deck and steps. Built new 14' x 16' elevated deck and steps. Sanded top rails and hand rails. Removed construction debris; cleaned up the work area thoroughly. Agreed to return in the springtime to seal these wooden surfaces. Sanded and sealed our old wooden deck table (top and seat surfaces). Sealed existing front porch rails and steps.

He is a craftsman. He takes pride in his work. And it shows. The work is excellent and done to my desires. He made the work area orderly at the end of each day. I selected him based on his rebuilding the deck for my son-in-law.
Description of Work: Added a screened porch to my house. Existing 6' of porch covered by roof. Extended the coverage by another 5' feet.
