Description of Work: We had a tree that blew down and they came and cut it up and the next day cut the whole tree down. I hated to cut a perfectly good tree down, but being off balance would have put the tree in my bedroom the next time. So down it came.

They have done work in my yard, my mothers yard, and my neighbors yard. They were great, they came on time and stayed until the job was finished. They were very nice to talk to and cleaned up their mess.

Joe and his crew arrived early on 4/16/13. The tree was quickly down, ground into small chips and gone. Joe hired Bama Bobs stump grinding who arrived as the last of the tree was hauled away. Bob ground the stumps and roots, cleaned up the mess and everyone was gone by 3:00pm. Everyone performed in a professional manner and I would recommend them to anyone needing tree service.
Description of Work: I have previously used Affordable Tree Service with a different owner. Joe Myrick now owns the service. He gave me an estimate on 4/11/13 and said it would be at least a week or more before he could come and remove a very large Magnolia tree in my back yard and grind the stump and roots. A medium sized cedar also required trimming. He quoted me $800 for everything.

Explained as above.
Description of Work: I have used Affordable Tree Service on a couple of occassions in the past with satisfactory results. This was over two years ago. I have found they don't mind doing work as long as it is not to close to the house. If it is considered "dangerous work" I would recommend someone else.I called them approximately two weeks ago to request a dead tree be removed that is next to my driveway. On Thursday the 19th of April I was given an estimate which I considered to be high for the removal of one tree. As a repeat customer I asked that they provide a more reasonable estimate, which they did. The gentleman who provided the estimate stated that they would be out "early next week" to remove the tree. The next week, no one from Affordable showed up or called about the tree removal. After leaving numerous messages, I finally received a call. This time they stated "We will be out early next week to remove the tree". Needless to say, the next week, no one showed up or called. In the meantime, a limb from the dead tree fell off and landed approximately three feet from my wife's car. Needless to say, by this time I was extremely frustrated with their lack of communication and customer service. Apparently they like to line up the work and then accomplish it when it is convenient for them. I finally left a message stating that if I did not hear back from them I would call the Better Business Bureau. They display the BBB Insignia prominently on their business cards. After no response from Affordable, I contacted the Bureau. The next day I received a call from Affordable. The gentleman "who stated he was the owner's father" told me I misunderstood him. He said that they would do the work when they could find another job close to mine as this would make it more cost effective for Affordable Tree Service!!! My wife and I, who were both present at the time of the estimate deny this was ever stated. I simply told the gentleman he was a liar and hung up the phone. Having worked in business for many years and dealt with numerous contractors on government projects I would not recommend this company to anyone. Later I received a call from another contractor who stated they would do the work for the same price. They were apparently called by Affordable Tree Service and asked if they would do the work. Waiting to see how that goes...

A tornado came through our neighborhood in April, 2011. The tree service, which was local, was Johnny on the spot with a decent price for removal of all the trees. The owner told us that for $3,500 they would get the trees off of the house, remove all the downed trees in the yard, then come back and grind all the stumps/root balls and bring his machine to level the yard back out where the huge stumps had been ground. All total there were at least 15 trees to deal with. The insurance company, in a state of crisis because of the tornadoes, cut the owner a check for the full amount right away. The trees were removed from the house and property, but we were told it would be about a month before they could come back and grind the stumps due to so many customers in need of that service. We called them a few times and they finally showed up sometime in July or August. On the day they came back, it appeared that they had ground six stumps, then the workers said the grinder had broken and they would have to come back for the rest. They never came back. During the wait after April, our home was being put back together and our neighbor's crew had pulled up and hauled off two of the huge stumps that were left, and never asked for payment - so that's two stumps our tree service was paid for without having to do the work. I called our insurance company about getting the work finished and they weren't able to get in touch with the service. I tried to call, myself, and got a 'this number is no longer in service' recording. My husband has since decided to try to spread out the piles from the big stumps by hand and has found that the two really big mounds still contain partial stumps. Our yard has been an ugly mess for a year and this company has gotten away with turning their backs on a job. They owe our insurance company for the two stumps they never finished, plus the ones they never got to, plus the two that were hauled off by the neighbors, and for the work of spreading out the mounds. I refuse to pay for something that's already been paid for and I will never endorse this company, their work, or their work ethic. They got lazy and didn't have time to finish up the details - and disappeared. My advice is to avoid any company that this man may represent in the future, and if Affordable Tree Service happens to show up at your door... tell 'em NO THANKS! They're crooks as far as I'm concerned.
Description of Work: Service actually performed differ from services agreed upon. They removed trees from on top of the house, cut and removed remaining trees from the yard, ground four stumps, halfway ground two other stumps.

I'm now using a tree service that gives me a written estimate and finishes all the work I have paid for. Lesson learned, is to be sure and get a written and signed estimate.
Description of Work: Thomas Dunn did the estimate, he did not write anything down, but I had & he just copied what I wanted done. I asked for a written estimate & Thomas said he would give me one. I paid for 3 trees to be cut down & the trunks to be stumped grounded out, one tree to be thinned and trimmed up about 10 feet from the ground & a few shrubs removed and a corner of the yard to be completely cleaned out. The work crew arrived promptly, clean cut & polite, BUT no written estimate. They proceeded to cut down three trees, but only stump grinded two, trimmed the remaining tree up 20' instead of the 10' I had specified. They did not clean out the corner yard & left large pieces of one of the trees. They did leave the front pretty cleaned up, but later I found a lot of tree roots, still above ground from two of the trees covered in dirt from the stump grinding. When I asked about the third tree not having the trunk stump grounded up I was told I didn't pay for that work even though I pointed out my list and that all other tree cut down in my yard had their trunks ground out! It was about 5 p.m. when they left and I guess if all the work isn't done at the end of the day, that's all you get. I received no refund for the third tree that did not get the tree trunk ground out!

They are a local tree company. I was getting back from North Carolina and I asked them to go ahead, but they almost thrashed my backyard. I had previously agreed with the owner that he would not drive the truck on the yard, because if so, he had to drive over my late wife’s garden. Also, when he had parked the truck outside, he had knocked off a light outside. I didn’t negotiate with him much as I wanted to just settle it and didn’t want him back in the yard. Initially, he gave an estimate and told me that when he does the job, I wouldn’t be able to tell that he was in the yard, so I chose him. My wife expired a month previous to that and her gardens were very precious to the family. I told him he couldn’t use any heavy equipment to get there. There were 2 trees and one of them was near the driveway, but I told him not to drive there and told him to get on to one of the trees and to include it in the estimate. He told me that the job will be done in such a way that, I wouldn’t tell he was in the yard. I could probably take him to court, but he didn’t inform the crew about our agreement, so I couldn’t blame them. Even when I spoke over the phone, I agreed for it assuming it was him and asked about the agreement and he agreed, but it was not him, as it was just a crew member. I was agreeable to the price, assuming he will have to climb on one of the trees, which was not easy. They cut the tree beautifully leaving a 3 foot stump on both sides, but what he did for the yard was bad. I will never use him in future, again.
Description of Work: I used the services of Affordable Tree Service for tree cutting, on 23 October, 2011.

All service except the cutting to length and stacking was as agreed to by me, on August 29, 2011 They did not, however cut and stack as agreed. Only the largest portions of the hickory tree were cut and stacked. No smaller trunk/branches of the hickory were cut and stacked. None of the oak tree was cut or stacked. I was unable to monitor the work due to my wifes surgery. When I complained, Affordable agreed that I was due the equivalent amount of wood cut and stacked. This was on/about August 30 or August 31, 2011. Numerous telephone calls have continued to promise delivery, but it hasn't been accomplished to date (10/22/11) after nearly 2 months. DON'T be absent when this type of work is going on. DON'T trust a Better Business Bureau rating as assurance of quality performance.
Description of Work: The service agreed to was the cutting down of one large split trunk hickory tree, one medium size oak tree, grinding of stumps, cutting of trees to 24 inch lengths (fireplace length) and stacking. Affordable Tree Service was also to clean up and remove all small branches and debris. Cutting to length and stacking was explicitly stated to cost $200 of the $2000 total.
