I recommend Taylor Roofing. Mr. Taylor is your contact person and he knows what he's doing. My understanding is that he's been in business for a very long time, and many of his workers have been with him for years. He was very helpful with picking the right color, and he had other suggestions for things I had not thought of. I asked for and received 3 or 4 estimates back in the early spring, and then another 3 this winter. Of those 6 or 7 quotes, Mr. Taylor impressed me the most, with the added bonus of his price being the most reasonable. Two or three of the quotes were very close to being the same, so my decision came down to who I thought was most likely to do the best job. The work was done quickly and professionally, and my new roof looks great. I had short interactions with a couple of his workers, and they impressed me as knowledgeable and hard working. I am very satisfied with the work that was done and the price I paid.
Description of Work: Full roof replacement with added drip edge, flashing around the chimney and ridge vent. I also needed several sheets of decking replaced, which I was aware of beforehand.

Mr. Taylor himself came out and assessed the need. He had a worker come a couple days later given this was not an emergency. He was really nice and used his own employees to get the job completed. His price was very reasonable and commensurate with the amount of work required to pull shingles off and extend a drip edge.

Description of Work: Called for an estimate to have roof and chimney repaired and they declined the offer stating they are 20 miles north of Huntsville and had too much work. Not sure if that was because it was to replace the front side of the roof and repair chimney leak .I felt like they just didn't want to do the work since I stated I was from Athens when I began to speak with her. Was quite disappointed in them due to the reviews I read about them.

Response from TAYLOR ROOFING
Ms. [Member Name Removed], in reviewing your comments, I realized that I failed to mention the most important thing of all; Taylor Roofing is not licensed to do work in Athens. Please forgive me for that oversight and for any inconvenience this may have caused you! We wish you the very best in finding a reputable roofer who is licensed to do work in your area.

This is the gentleman you want to hire for your roof issues. When our roof was in need of replacement, we were extremely apprehensive about hiring anybody to do anything on our house given past experience with contractors. We decided to call Philip Taylor after reading the review from the retired construction worker concerned about finding a quality roofing contractor. Mr. Taylor showed up on time in his plaid shirt, ready to climb a roof. He took his time (1+ hour) to go over all aspects of what constitutes a quality roof and was eager to answer any and all questions I had. He pointed out shortcuts on neighboring roofs and stressed the importance of doing it right the first time. Back in November 2014, we'd had a roof leak around a vent that had been repaired by 1Stop Roofing & Exteriors. While they fixed the leak, they did a terrible job cleaning up after themselves and failed to adequately address the issue. Our young daughter kept finding sharp roofing nails on our deck for months after the repair. When Philip Taylor inspected our roof with me, I found no less than 8 roofing nails at the site that had been repaired. We received quotes from 2 companies: Summit Roofing, Taylor Roofing. Summit Roofing was over a $1,000 more expensive and I found them to be lacking excitement at their opportunity to replace our roof. Mr. Taylor set himself apart with his no nonsense approach and openness to discuss the issues in his industry. Him being adamant about manually nailing the shingles rather than the industry practice of fast and furious nail guns sealed the deal for me. Other roofers take a day, Taylor Roofing takes two, but they do it right. No Mexican crew here either, just locals, some of which have been with Mr. Taylor for 25 years. Roof installation was efficient, with at least 5 people on the job, Mr. Taylor included. Several decking sheets were replaced and Mr. Taylor made custom flashing for multiple areas of the house. The crew worked hard, and the project was finished in two days, as promised. They did a great job cleaning up after themselves, and Mr. Taylor came by the next day to check our property again. We felt that Taylor Roofing did a great job - this was confirmed by our insurance agent, USAA. Unbeknownst to us, they sent out an inspector two weeks after job completion. When we met the unannounced inspector outside, he stated unequivocally that he had not been able to find a single flaw in the roof installation. He stressed that this was highly unusual. Everything had been done the right the first time, just as Philip Taylor promised.

Having worked in the Construction Industry in excess of 40 years, I was very concerned about finding a quality roofing company. After several hours of engaging contacts, researching various roofing companies, I came across the company by recommendation. This company has been professional, courteous, and responsive, from initial contact though contract engagement and job completion. I will note that I was on site to observe the actual work as it was performed and was impressed with the attention to detail, level of quality, timely performance and final clean-up at job completion. One could not tell they had been there except for the new roof itself and it looks great! In addition, based on my construction experience, my confidence level in the completed product being of good quality is very good. In Summary, if you are interested in a good quality job at a reasonable price I would highly recommend this company.

I did a lot of homework and research. I got a few quotes from local roofing contractors. I chose Taylor Roofing, and I am very pleased with my choice. Phillip Taylor has been in business for many years and talking to him for a short time will make it clear he knows his business and cares about what he does. I chose Taylor Roofing over the other estimates not because he was the lowest price (he was in the middle price-wise) but the reviews I had read about him were all great, and anyone I spoke to about him had nothing but good things to say about his workmanship and integrity. Phillip answered any questions I had promptly and in detail as well as provided me with insurance documentation I requested. He worked around my schedule and completed the job in record time and left my property as if he was never there. Phillip (the owner of the company) showed up promptly at 7:00am exactly when he said he would be there and work started right away. His crew wasted no time protecting my property with tarps and wood and removing the existing shingles and felt down to the decking. I was told that the decking ( the wood under the shingles ) was in great shape and there was no need for any replacement. Within a couple of hours, the back side of my roof had new felt, and they had begun installing the new GAF HD architectual shingles. Phillip jumped in with half the crew and started removing the old roofing off the front of the house while the rest of the crew continued installing the new shingles on the back. One of the reasons I decided to go with Talyor Roofing was the quality workmanship his company does and this includes hand nailing instead of using air nailers. This may seem "old fashioned" but it makes a big difference in the quality of the end product. Using air nailers may be easier and a little faster for the crew but it can cause damage to the shingles and the decking if not done carefully. A misfire from an air gun can split the shingle or send a nail through the shingle at an angle and leave it unattached or loose. The Phillip and his crew were done and cleaned up by 5:00pm that same day and my roof was beautiful and my property pristine. I would recommend Taylor Roofing to anyone I know, and I would not hesitate to hire him for any other work I need done. Great job guys and thanks for giving us piece of mind during the storms that came a few days later!

Mr. Taylor came out quickly, evaluated the problem, gave some other unrelated advice, and had someone come out that afternoon to refasten the shingles. The price may seem a little high, but the roof is very steep and some shingles were high. I was OK with the price because of the steepness and the quick response.

I was not at the house when Philip came to give me the quote, but we talked several times on the phone in great detail about what what he anticipated the job needed and why. He had very comparable prices to other roofers, but he won me over on the phone by going into detail of why he hand nails and how he would redo the chimney and wall flashing. I scheduled the new roof less than a week out and he and his crew showed up on time. Hand nailing does take longer, but there is less potential for damaging the shingles or nailing into a gap in the decking because there is much more tactile feedback. Also, he always strips off all the felt, since you really don't know what the decking is going to look like until you've seen it. Several companies don't go that extra step if the felt looks good, but there is always the chance of having a bad deck board underneath a seemingly fine strip of felt. Philip concentrated on the flashing and some of the detail work while the rest of his crew of four guys worked on everything else. They would only work in sections in case the weather turned unexpectedly, that way the home was never in any real danger of water damage. It ended up taking about two and half days to complete, but probably could have been finished in two. At the end of the second day they didn't want to risk having an unfinished section with expected bad weather on the way. After the roof was done Philip called to give me an update and ask if I had any questions or concerns. All-in-all I was very pleased with every aspect. I feel like I got quite a bit of extra attention to detail for the same cost as many of the other estimates I'd received. I would not hesitate to recommend Taylor roofing to anyone in the future.

Mr. Taylor was able to come out the same day I called him. He was able to identify where the water was coming in and made an appointment to come out the next morning to fix it. Mr. Taylor arrived on time and was able to fix my problem - he also replaced a rubber seal around the roof vent. I am so please with the services he provided. Mr. Taylor took the time to explain why the leak occurred and used the old materials to show me how the water was getting under the shingles. He also fixed a leak in my Dad's roof. We will both use Taylor Roofing again if needed.

Everything is right about this company. They are very well known. On time and on the money with the right price. He is smart. Everything was very clean afterwards.

Had Mr. Taylor look at my 26 year old roof about a year ago. He said I could get another year or so out of the old one. Mr. Taylor is so honest the top of the line roof was actually cheaper now than his earlier bid due to his lowered cost. How many roofers would do that? The roof was on in a day and a half, with EXCELLENT cleanup. I am VERY pleased with Mr. Taylor's work.
Description of Work: This is the second roof Mr. Taylor has done for me. Would never use anyone else. He is the BEST roofer in north Alabama! Not only is his work the excellent, but he has the best crew who have been with him for many years. Would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Mr. Taylor for your next roof.

Called this roofer after another quote of $1400 to fix a leak on the roof, rotting decking and shingle overhang issues. Mr. Taylor came out, got on the roof and fixed my leak for free! There was some debris lifting a shingle. The other roofer did not even get on the roof, just guess that it was the flashing around the shingle. Taylor then gave me a quote to repair the other roofing issues of $275 - more than $1,000 less than my other estimate! He was very timely and it looks great! I would definitely recommend and use him again!

I received five quotes to have my roof replaced and decided on Taylor Roofing due to the fact that they had been in business for almost thirty years and that they spent the most time with me on the estimate going over every detail of the work to be performed. When it came to selecting shingles, Mr. Taylor brought full size samples to show us and described the color variations we would see compared to the color of our home. This was very helpful and allowed us to decide on a shingle in a short amount of time. All other roofers we contacted only provided index card sized samples with pamphlets which were mostly worthless. The roof replacement was carefully planned around unpredictable rainy weather. The roof was replaced in sections to allow it to never be exposed to the weather without shingles. The old roof was replaced with architectural shingles which look amazing. I also had a ridge vent installed to eliminate the old power vents that allowed access into my attic for squirrels. My chimney was re-flashed and the flashing where my walls met was also replaced with step flashing at Mr. Taylor's recommendation. All pipe boots were replaced with lead boots and painted to match. They even removed and re-installed my satellite dish with no issues. I had TV service back the same day without having to realign the dish. One part of my roof was somewhat wavy. I asked every roofer about this and none of them wanted to acknowledge its existence. They said that they would just go back over it and everything would be fine. Mr. Taylor removed the decking, found where the roof was framed improperly, fixed it, then installed new decking. Now this section of the roof looks great. If I had chosen anyone else, I would still have a wavy roof. I really appreciated this extra step. Mr. Taylor was around during most of the work and was very particular with how the work was performed. I appreciated this since it shows that doing it right was just as important as getting it done. Everything was cleaned up very well and very little debris was left behind. In the end, my new roof looks awesome. I could not be happier with it. The installation is still new and only time will tell the quality of the work. However, I am confident that it will hold up and that Taylor Roofing will be around if there is a problem. A couple things that may help those interested in Taylor Roofing: 1. Taylor Roofing may not give you the best first impression due to their informal nature. They can be semi-difficult to get on the phone. This is due to the fact that Mr. Taylor tends to answer all phone calls and it's not unusual for it to roll to voice mail. I don't recall his mailbox having a personal greeting, so you could be left in doubt as to whether or not you called the right number. If he does answer, it will probably be with a "Hello" which could also make you wonder if you called the right number. You did, just leave a voice mail or ask if you reached Taylor Roofing and you'll be impressed the rest of the way. What Taylor Roofing lacks in first impressions is made up in every other step along the way. You will be hard pressed to find someone else as knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to replacing your roof. Ultimately, would you rather hire someone that is excellent in customer relations but lacking in roofing abilities or vice versa? I chose the latter. Mr. Taylor is very involved and determined to help you understand everything that needs to be done and why. He does not try to push upgrades or pressure you in any way. He will also spend a lot of time with you going over every detail. I even got on the roof with him so he could show me areas that needed re-flashing. No one else went through as much effort. They all left their estimate and ran. 2. Taylor Roofing does not normally paint pipe vents to match the roof. This has nothing to do with the quality of the roof, but I believe it looks a lot better when the pipes blend with the roof. I asked for the pipes to be painted and Taylor Roofing obliged with no difficulty and no extra charge. It just isn't something they do by default. If this is important to you just ask for it and it will be accommodated.

My roof had leaked thru the ceiling of my kitchen due to all the rain we’d had over the past week. Mr. Taylor promised to stop by and take a look at my roof even though he was extremely busy and wouldn’t have time to fix the problem that day. He called me about 10 minutes out and I left work to meet him at the house. He was on time so I didn't have to wait for him. He took a look in my attic and then climbed up on the roof. He told me exactly what was wrong and that my husband and I could easily fix the roof ourselves, if we wanted to. He then gave me the metal pieces and exact instruction on what we needed to do. He said we couldn’t mess it up more and that he’d be more than happy to keep an opening for us, if we still need his help. He wouldn't let me pay him for the metal pieces or the service call. You just don’t get service like this anymore. I would highly recommend Mr. Taylor.

Longstanding business with knowledgeable, careful roofer. He hand nails for precision! He's NEVER had a home rain damaged while reroofing! Watches the weather carefully and protects your investment. (With today's technology, he says, there's no excuse.) Uses trained, carefully monitored, English-speaking employees and only quality materials. Expertise, integrity, and dependability have earned him the privledge to be customer selective, however. Hire him if you can. (May choose not to do difficult, steep-pitched roofs.) Business has earned a solid reputation within the community and with material suppliers.

From the beginning the whole roofing process was handled with ultimate professionalism. Mrs. Taylor, the knowledgeable Office Manager, expeditiously provided an itemized proposal. Under Mr. Taylor's direct supervision the crew skillfully installed the shingles and other quality materials. Mr. Taylor was a man of his word. The work actually started when he said and ended when he said. My home is in Northern Alabama where high winds and storms are frequent. Almost 2 years later the roof is in excellent condition. I applaud Mr. Taylor, Mrs. Taylor, and the crew. My sturdy roof protects my most valuable physical assets -- my house and its contents. .

Our roof had some hail damage. The insurance company included replacement of three skylights that had some minor dents on them as well. Phillip Taylor did a great job in making sure he took (and verified) all of the measurements. He worked with a local supplier to find replacement skylights and the flashing kit for a set of three mulled together. The entire roof and skylight replacement took them less than two days. They cleaned-up everything after they were done each day. All of the workers were friendly, courteous, and were from the local area (i.e. spoke English). I would definitely recommend Taylor Roofing to anyone who needs roofing work done on their home or business.

All debris removed, not a speck remained. Mr. Taylor was on the job at all times. Very high quality work. I feel very comfortable with Taylor Roofing. I would recommend only Taylor Roofing. I have used them since the 80's. Very good for planning and deciding on materials.
