Affordable Fences

Paid half to secure materials, install wasn't started on time, owner would not answer phone, fence didn't match, gaps in panels, fence not level, not all old fence removed as agreed to.

Fence looks nice but gates are sagging. ONLY USED 2 HINGES ON EACH GATE, NOT ENOUGH SUPPORT. A SLIGHT DELAY GETTING STARTED BUT FINISHED IN 2 DAYS.

On agreed start date had to call to ask when crew would arrive, they came and spent 2 hours taking old fence panels down and stacking them. Said they would return when materials arrived, had paid 50% down payment month before so materials would be available at start date. Called each day to get status, had to leave message as no one answered business phone. Crew returned on Friday 11 July and installed fence poles and bottom rails on back property line, said they would return when materials arrived. Called each day the next week to get status and had to leave message as no one answered business phone. Finally sent text message and received reply from owner stating crew would be on site next day, they arrived in the afternoon of 17 July and began to install panels and top rails in back and installing poles and rails on side. Returned next day to finish job, however the fence they installed did not match the existing fence, color was correct but panels were different and fence wasn’t as tall. Several fence post caps didn’t match and fence wasn’t straight and level although some parts were very good, some weren’t even close. Install crew was very courteous and worked diligently when on site. Some of the old fence panels were left for me to get rid of. Two years ago had this companey install chain link fence and double gate at my paretnts home and everything was exelecent.

They came out and spent about an hour and a half going over what I wanted done. He measured it off, gave me some ideas, threw some things out, and gave me a price. I'm going to use them in the future.

Price estimate was delivered promptly. Construction was delayed slightly due to weather, but once the schedule was solidified, the work was done quickly and professionally. We are very pleased. d

They did a nice job and I would use them again. However, at the time, I was not working, so if they didn't show up when they said, it was not a huge deal. We did have a permit problem. The city shut them down within an hour of them starting work because they hadn't gotten a permit. It took about a week to resolve that problem and get them back working. Also, they did mistakenly install a gate in the back of the yard which we never requested, but I didn't have any objection to having the extra gate, so they left it there with no charge to me for it. I would recommend them with the caveat that you have to be flexible about when they show up.

We are satisfied with the fence.

Owner agreed to come and do an estimate. Did not show up on time for original estimate. Rescheduled. Did not show up on time for 2nd time. Rearranged my schedule just to get the estimate done. His "professional opinion" was to move one of my proposed locations for one gate to "save me money". After estimate he attempted to sell me baseball cards out of the back of his truck. I took time off work to be there when they arrived for the job. they never showed up. Called multiple times and only got voice mail. Three hours after they were supposed to show up the Owner called and said that the crew had written wrong phone number and had been calling to try and get directions to my house. Came back from work to meet them and explain how I wanted the job done and that I would now be home the rest of the day. They immediately said they could not finish the job that day and would have to return in the morning. I told them I would be ready for them to come @7:30 AM so they could finish and that I had a lot of other things to do and hadn't planned on having to be home for 2 days (I had been promised that it would only take one day if they started early in the morning.) Crew lead agreed to come at 7:30 AM the next day. Worked inside my home and checked on progress occasionally. Crew left without checking to see if I was satisfied or to even re-confirm they would return the next day. Inspected work and found several possible problems but since no one was still on site I couldn't inquire. Owner never called to see if I was satisfied with the days work. Crew didn't show up the next day until 9:00. I began calling at 8:00 and couldn't get anyone to answer. Crew showed up with an attitude and couldn't understand why I was upset. I had to give them a short lesson on customer satisfaction, keeping promises and not trying to imply that I was the one at fault. Work continued and I inspected fence about 1 hour before they had estimated they would be done. The gate that the Owner had "advised" me to move was on such a steep down grade that the whole thing looked crooked. I measured the distances and found that they were not accurate. They attempted to fix the fence, but it still looks out of place in comparison to the rest of the fence. Next I found several deep scratches in the vinyl posts and several markings/discolorations that the crew lead said would "easily come off with some cleaner" I asked him to get some cleaner out of his truck and demonstrate. He did not have any cleaner and asked to borrow some from me. He then proceed to scrub the marks for more than 30 minutes and could only get less than 30% of them removed. He then said they would "come back on another day" and fix them with touch up paint. I held back $100 from the agreed upon price because I felt the whole process had been very unprofessional, I had missed more than 3 hours from work to "supervise " them and they had delivered faulty material. Over three weeks later the owner calls me and the first words out of his mouth were, "I bet you thought I forgot about you" he never identified himself and never apologized, but immediately told me he was coming to my house tomorrow (on a Wednesday) and wanted me there to be "satisfied with the touch up". I said I couldn't take off work. he then said he would come on Thursday at which point I reminded him that I work . We agreed upon a Friday morning at 9:00 and I told him I would not wait around for him because I had many other things to do. Friday 9:00 came and went. At 9:15 I left the house. At 9:20 I received a text asking for directions to my house with a smiley face symbol - really?

Dustin, JP and Cordell do quality work. It took them roughly 2 1/2 days to complete our fence and stairs, and one afternoon they even worked in the pouring rain. Dustin cares about the details. The only downside with Affordable Fences is that they are not good at scheduling. They started about a week later than the scheduled date due to other unfinished projects, and they didn't show up several times when they were supposed to. If you are patient and flexible on time, however, you will love the end product.

We needed to have our old privacy fence removed and replaced. We got three quotes, and Affordable Fences came in far lower than the other two. Dustin also provided the quote promptly and decided to perform a complimentary fix on one of our gates while he was there. After looking at another project they had just completed, we decided to give them the go-ahead for our fence. An employee came out within two days to meet with me, finalize the details of what we wanted, and pick up the deposit. Like another customer mentioned in their review, there was confusion about the 10% off coupon listed on Angie's List - Dustin told me it was intended to be for military only. So, we did not get the 10% off the originally quoted price, but they were already so much lower than the other quotes received that we decided it wasn't worth arguing about. Affordable Fences was able to start the job within a day or two of that meeting. We have a large dog in the back yard, and they planned the work around making sure that he was always locked up, which was very helpful for us. Had they not been willing to do this, we would have had to board him at the vet. Despite two days of rain, they were able to complete the job within a week. They cleaned up very well - when they were done, there was absolutely nothing for us to do. The day that they completed the job, the supervisor met us in the evening after work for a final walk-through. We did find one or two minor things that we asked them to touch up, but we went ahead and delivered the final payment. They promised to come out the next day and take care of our final requests. They were unable to make it the next day due to a delay on their next job, but the supervisor did call to keep me informed and apologize. As promised, they did come out the following morning and take care of the issues we identified. The new fence is beautiful, and makes our entire back yard look so much nicer! We are very happy not only with the results, but also with the service we received and the price. We definitely recommend Affordable Fences.

We really love the fence, but there were a few challenges: First, there was a little confusion over the interpretation of the Angie's List coupon. It was going to be a large amount and so we settled for a lesser discount. Next, although we had given them a picture of the fence we wanted, they built it a bit differently. The fence they built is very well built and had some of the details we wanted but not all. After some discussions and a compromise which entailed adding some 2x4's to the fence, everyone was happy. I feel as though if I had been able to be there the entire time they were working, this would not have happened. They wanted to be sure we was pleased with the result. I definitely feel we got a good return on our investment and I would use them again.

After a very successful job on my fencing, I hired this company to side my house and stain and seal the concrete around my swimming pool. I was told there was a 25 year guarantee on the seal. On the first rain after the job was complete, the stain and seal pealed in one spot. I told Dustin about this a couple of weeks ago, along with telling him that where he had placed my yard furniture, the new concrete area had the stain the seal scraped off. Instead of pressure washing this are, Dustin just painted stain over the area scraped. He hasn't even found the part that pealed off yet, despite my telling him several times. He took two months to side my house because his workers were only allowed to work 2-6 hours at a time. Apparently he is spread too thin. His workers would arrive most times after 10 a.m. if during the week (until the last few weeks), but between 8 and 8:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. I never knew when they would be there, despite my asking repeatedly for them to tell me the day before when they planned to work. The cover on the electrical outlet outside is still not right, despite my complaining many times. Supposedly he will fix that this week. Don't know how he plans to fix the stain/seal. There is no quality control except by customer complaint. Workers told me this contractor is spread too thin, and that is why it took so long to get the siding done. I do not recommend this contractor for anything other than fencing, and highly recommend you add "time is of the essense" to the contract he has you sign.

We signed the contract with them on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and they were ready to start that Friday (although they ultimately got rained out and had to postpone to the next week). When they put the first posts up, they weren't along the property lines, but when we pointed it out, they promptly fixed it. They cleaned up nicely, and after we paid them and they left, we noticed one of the bottom rails was crooked. They came out and fixed it, no hassles at all. All in all, no problems recommending them at all.

The job was done in less than 24 hours from the quote and the repairs were better than expected. Will use this company again!!

Great job. Don't be afraid of complaining if there is a problem. Dustin is very responsible.

Called and requested a quote for a pool fence. The pre-job communication was great. Dustin came out for an estimate and and saw that I was working on a deck as well. He asked if he could finish the joists for the deck and I agreed. They installed the fence in one day and also finished the joists for the deck that day. They finished at night, so I was not able to do a thorough inspection, but I did walk around the fence and noticed dirt clods where they had dug the holes for the fence. I asked if they would clean it up and they said no. There was also some concrete pour-over on the pool deck. The employee scuffed it with his shoe and said it would be fine. It is still there. The next day i put a level against the joists and they were off by an inch over a 20 foot span. The pool fence was missing two post caps, that I asked Dustin to replace. He said he would. I have since called 5 times for him to come install fence caps. He said on several occasions that he would get them and install them. It has been 5 months and no results. We also asked for a quote for moving a privacy fence and pouring concrete. They never followed up on the quote, even though they said they would. The pool fence gates do not close correctly. They came out once to adjust when they were in the neighborhood for a job at my neighbors (who would score them as an F), but they still didn't fix it so it would close. We have kids and we told them this was a concern and they didn't fix it.

The entire job, from estimates to completion, was handled very professionally. The only delay in the project was due to the April tornados - total delay was only a week! Given the situation - difficulty getting supplies, contacting folks, etc. - I would have easily expected a two- or three-week delay. Also - Dustin worked hard to keep the cost down. This project could have cost much more if it had been necessary to drill post holes in the bedrock, but Dustin worked with the plan to avoid this to keep us in budget. The fence is beautiful, and we hope to call Affordable Fences again for other landscaping jobs.

Fence posts were removed in a timely manner, the workman had been delayed however, due to a prior job cleanup and did not arrive on time, however,the job was still performed and completed that day. Everything was performed accurately and precisely. Great job!

They were amazing I chose them off Angie's List. They were indeed affordable, they cleaned up after themselves, they honored their commitment. They were there when said they would be there and they finished when they said they'd be finished. I talked to him on a Saturday, he had people there on Tuesday, and they were finished by the next Saturday. He personally walked around the fence with me at the end and checked it. They have a terrible yard where there were gaps between the fence and the ground so he found rocks and pushed them up against them because they have a small dog. Even after we were done, he and his guys went around still looking for more trash. Their price was very fair. I would use them again if I ever needed to.

John Hand came as scheduled to give estimate to install about 380 feet of fencing (6 ft, dog-eared, pine) on my property in the City of Madison, AL. The contract was signed a couple of days later, with a start date of June 17, 2009. The wood and other materials were delivered to the property on June 16. In the afternoon of June 17, workers installed the support posts. The workers returned the next two days to complete the installation. They also cleaned up the yard from their work.
