Using Holyfield Co Inc was a very unpleasant mistake. Holyfield showed up on time that Friday morning and collected the information he needed to complete his appraisal, inspecting the property, taking notes, and photos. After approximately 30 minutes, he was paid and promised the results by Monday. I explained that time was of the essence in that a foreclosure redemption was in the works with strict time limits. Again, his response was that he'd email the appraisal Monday. Over the weekend, I emailed his office to reiterate the need for timely results, nothing more than a respectful reminder. I had no reason to believe, at that time, his promised Monday deadline would be a problem. Shortly before noon on Monday, I called his office and was somewhat tersely advised that the appraisal was still in the works and would be sent as soon as complete. Unbeknownst to me, my girlfriend also called his office asking the same thing. She was met with an even less professional response. One that made her angry enough to call me. After a few more hours, mid afternoon, she called again to reiterate the need for the results. At that point, she was somewhat rudely advised again, it will be sent when it is done. We both had dealt with an office staffer, not the appraiser himself but later came to believe, his wife. Regardless, it was an unpleasant and stressful exchange. I called again toward the end of the day and was advised they were all still working on it. I got the impression they were having a good time, lots of laughs, doing it. It wouldn't be complete until Tuesday. Mid-morning Tuesday, I called and was told early afternoon. I explained I would be near their office, gave them a time frame, and asked for a call upon completion. No call came in however as I finished my business in their area, I called, 2:30pm and was told it had been completed and emailed. Since I was close, I told her I'd stop by for a hard copy. Once I got there, after a short wait, the appraisal was put in my hands. I asked her to point out the appraised price and was shocked to find it to be thousands of dollars less than the property had brought at a foreclosure sale just 2 weeks earlier, lower by approximately 13% .My impression was that the appraisal given was the lowest possible based on Holyfield's discretion due to what he felt was undue pressure to meet his own self imposed deadline of Monday.Another certified appraiser, was immediately hired, another $300 spent, as we believed Holyfield's appraisal to be well below a correct figure. That appraisal was done more quickly, the next day, and came in a full 26% higher than Holyfield's and more than 18% higher than the foreclosure price. My experience using Holyfield's appraisal service was entirely negative. I found them to be rude, unresponsive, and incompetent. I would never use Holyfield's services again.
