Description of Work: After being told by AT&T that we would have to wait 5 weeks to get an AT&T system activated, we turned to our current security provider, ADT. The only reason we contacted AT&T was because our new home had AT&T already. ADT was there the next day and our new system was installed the day after. They are competitive price wise and their responsiveness has been very good.

I have been using them for about a month. They are good though not excellent. There are things that one has to know which I didn’t know. I already had ADT service in this house that had not been used for about 10 years and I was new to the house. The salesman said that it would cost me only $50 and he would reactivate that. I wish I would have known that they were extenuating circumstances that sometimes the salesman is not exactly. It ended up costing me three times what he said to get my system up in working. The salesman really didn’t know that. One has to watch the installers and should not let them come at the end of the day. I had that twice and they just want to go home. They are quite responsive. I would use them in the future because it is easier to keep the same system.
Description of Work: I use ADT for my alarms.

The experience was great. The equipment was free, and I pay 40 Dollars a month. I had never used them before, but I know someone who does use them. I don't have any dislikes, they are terrific, and I had the service men come to my home when I was out of town because of the service. I am just completely happy with it.

We've had ADT for over a dozen years (originally started out with another company that ADT bought). Never had an issue/problem with their monitor service. The two times one of the sensors failed they were out here within 24 hours. We recently upgraded our system. The representative came out, reviewed our current system with us, and provided several options for upgrade, from the basic to the 'Cadillac'. He also provided specific prices for each option. When I asked about a 'mix-n-match', he was quick to provide that estimate as well. There was absolutely no sales pressure. We chose what we wanted (an upgraded digital keypad, additional keypad, and updated smoke detectors, plus a maintenance package), he scheduled the installation online (via PDA) while we were all still together. The installation tech showed up on time, and was meticulous in his work. He also took the time to make sure we both understood how to operate the new keypads and how to reprogram them on our own, plus showed us how to use the ADT website to manage our account.
Description of Work: Estimate for upgrading old home security system, and the work performed to install it. Upgrade consisted of a new main digital keypad, an additional digital keypad elsewhere in the house, and updated/upgraded smoke detectors.

They were very polite and on time. They did a thorough job. I had no complaints. It is a great company and the security system actually works because I set off the alarm by accident and the police showed up at my house. I would recommend them to anybody else. The salespeople were professional and they were very timely in getting stuff done. They were very responsive.

It is going well & they have great customer service. They have talked me thru several things that other security systems don't have the patience to do. It's a customer like me that needs a security system! ADT has things figured out & is capable of adapting to any situation.

We had some work done on our system and when it was done they mishandled the paper work and did not save the phone numbers. We had a burglary there to the tune of $40000 and when our alarm system went off they did not call the police. They said that was our fault because our numbers were not updated and then we were able to go back and cruise. They had all the information and did not update their own system. Some contracts are iron clad in favor of the security company and even after having proven that they were at fault we could not recover any damages. We even had $13000 insurance gap. Most insurance gaps are larger than that. So we would not use them again nor would we recommend them to others. We had a guy approach us on the front door the other day and we had to shoo him off our property.

I don't use them. I had gone with another security company when I first bought my house and I had a contract for three years. During that time they sold out to another company and that company sold out to ADT. When my contract expired, I was on a month-to-month basis. I didn't really renew it. By then it was the second company and then it switched to ADT. I in the meantime developed neurological problems and I don't have remote or updated equipment in my house. I was paying the first company a fee for monitoring services which was reasonable. When ADT took over, they sent me a letter saying that they were going to raise the rate. I did have a contract with them, but I told them that I wouldn't sign the new contract with them unless they updated my equipment because it was out of date and there was no coverage for breakage and things like that, all the things that were being offered to the new customers. I was a new customer because I never really signed with ADT. but they said I was not a new customer. Besides I have neurological problems. When I was with the first company I had to have a door enlarged so that my power chair could go in and out and I had to pay them to come out and place the door sensor running around the walls. I had to pay them $75.00 to come out here and put a door sensor on. I spoke to ADT personally and they said they would send someone out and let me know what they can do for me when it comes to updating the equipment. I can't walk fast now and I can't get to set it off timely. I can't reach anywhere from outside my bedroom door. I wanted a remote so I could set the alarm inside or outside if I couldn't get there. They came out and they gave me a price like $100.00 to do this and $100.00 to do that so I asked them to leave. I called them and I told them I wanted the equipment and I was not going to sign the contract with them. I had been a customer for four years at this point. They wanted me to keep old equipment for another three years. That's the contract, but the equipment should have been updated. I had developed neurological more severe problems and I needed accommodation for those problems with new equipment, the same thing they were giving the regular customers, but they wouldn't do it. I was paying ADT. My contract had expired but I kept paying them anyway. I kept it going on a month-to-month basis. As far as ADT was concerned, I would have been a new customer. ADT probably charged about the same, maybe $5.00 or $6.00 more. I decided I was not signing a new three year contract without updated equipment. My equipment is seven years old plus it didn't have the features that new customers were getting like the remote which I desperately needed for my disabilities. It was an old panel. It didn't have the capacity where if I wanted to call in from somewhere, I could. It didn't have anything. I called them last year. I called them twice. The first time they said that maybe they could do something and then they didn't do anything. I called them back again when I got a letter from them saying they were going to increase the rate. I called them and told them that I could not accept that because they were not going to update my equipment. I wasn't going to go another three years with four-year-old equipment that will be seven years old and not have them do anything even if I was paying for it. My overall experience with ADT was horrible. The pricing would have been okay. I can't remember what I was paying before, but I am thinking it was somewhere between $70.00 and $80.00. It might have been less. It was just a little more than what I had been paying, but no service. I was away while ADT had my equipment and a neighbor came in the garage door not knowing it was wired also. The alarm went off and she waited for ever for the police to come. They didn't come. ADT called me and told me that the alarm was going off in my house and they told me the wrong zone. I told them that nobody would be there to call the police. I never heard back from them. Two hours later I called them back and they told me that they wouldn't call me back if the police didn't call them back. I didn't want to get home because I didn't know if anything was wrong or not. My neighbor told me what happened and how she waited and waited for the police and they never came. When I called ADT, they said that they had called the police, but they didn't know if the police had come. I told them that their policy of not calling the customer back to tell them if something is wrong or not was very bad. The quality of the service was horrible. The monitoring service did call me, but not the service service. They didn't come and check. I don't know if they called the police or not. I didn't like the way they called me and called me on my cell phone. By then everything would have been gone. They didn't respond well and help me with my request. I didn't like them at all. I didn't like the way they worked. They had no customer orientation.
Description of Work: I called ADT Security Services to get me a remote and update the security equipment.

They did a bad job. I asked them to take their burglar alarms and they wouldn’t do it. They said that if we allowed them to put a sign in the front yard they would give us a burglar alarm but it didn’t say we had to use it. I don’t know how to use it and it came on 5 in the morning when my son went out to work. I would not recommend them. I didn’t pay for it because they said if I put the sign in my yard I could use it and since then they have been trying to charge me. I told them within 2 days to take it back because I didn’t need it. I don’t know about the quality because I have never used it. They have gone to the point of harassment and they call me 4-5 times a day. I told them I could get them for harassment and they said I wouldn’t be able to because I have their alarm in my house. I told them many times to remove it.
Description of Work: I used the service of ADT for alarms three months ago.
