Description of Work: In the 2 1/2 years I've subscribed to Mediacom, I can't recall even one day when all the TV channels came in. I have basic 2 through 99, some 800's which are HD, and a few 400 which are the Starz channels that are not optional according to Mediacom. I continue to call about twice a month, serviceman shows up right at 1/2 the time. I don't mean he's not on time, I mean a no-show. When someone has come to the house, the verdict 100% of the time is a weak signal coming in from the road. Two and a half years it has not changed. Mediacom is the only service available in my area.

The technicians showed up during the time period agreed upon, but failed to call me in advance so I could sequester my dogs. The installation went well, but took much longer than I anticipated because one of the technicians was a trainee. Overall, they did a quality installation. Once inside, it took 20 minutes or so before Mediacom could establish an internet connection with my modem, and the technicians could provide no reason for the delay. I signed up for a 20mbps service so, once the connection was established, we tested the download and upload speeds and I was pleased with the results. However, about an hour after the technicians departed, I noticed a significant drop in the connection speed which lasted from approximately 6pm until 11pm. Close to 11pm the connection speed got better, and returned to the speeds we verified while the technicians were present. Over the next several days, the pattern of decreased connection speeds during peak hours (6-11pm) recurred daily. Streaming movie services such as Netflix were barely usable during those hours, and downloads took forever. During the times I mentioned previously, my internet download speeds averaged between 4 and 6mbps - significantly less than what I was paying for. I did some research online and discovered a lot of complaints about exactly this type of problem with Mediacom. I also asked around at work, and found quite a few colleagues who were having the same problem with Mediacom. They told me that Mediacom had been to their homes on numerous occasions to troubleshoot the problem, but were never able to fix it. Many of these people lived in areas where Mediacom is the only cable provider, so they were stuck. Based on what I discovered, I decided to cancel with Mediacom during the 30 day money back guarantee period. Mediacom immediately refunded my $49.98 and I thought all was good but? On 4 January, I received a bill from Mediacom for $99.96 so I called to find out why. The Mediacom representative told me that the bill was generated before I cancelled, so that?s the reason I received the bill. He went on to explain that Mediacom charges two months in advance, so that?s why the bill was $99.96. However, he could not explain why I was billed that amount even though I had already paid the first month via debit card on the day I signed up for the internet service. Even more interesting was the fact that he said I only owed $24 and not the full $99.96, although he could not explain why the $24 charge was on my bill. His records showed that I had paid, and had been refunded, my original payment of $49.98 within the first 30 days of starting my account with Mediacom. Since the installation was free, he seemed baffled, but checked with a supervisor and fixed the error. All in all, my experience with Mediacom was not pleasant and I would not recommend this company as an internet provider. I switched to Knology the day I disconnected from Mediacom and have had fantastic service ever since.
Description of Work: Vendor established a high speed internet connection from the telephone pole to my home, which required running approximately 80 feet of coaxial cable and mounting a plastic connection box on the exterior wall of my residence.

I started out with them with the internet. They came right away and sent a technician to connect my internet. The internet service was great. Then when I got the flat screen I added cable to that and later on when I finished settling with my previous phone company I took phone connection also from them. Their charges are good. I currently have all my connections with them. One disadvantage of using them is when we have bad weather the internet goes out followed by the phone line and the cable line. It all depends on how many units they have when they give the connection. We are in the flat land and the storms come from the west and take out electricity quite a bit. You really can’t blame them for that. I have a problem with their responsiveness. They are good in service. I called them to put another TV connection and they sent a technician to do that job. He said he will not be able to do that as he said I had to get extra connection outlet. I don’t think that was good. I don’t why did they send a technician out when they knew he can’t do that job. When I call them they give a time slot and say they will come anytime between that. I don’t like that. I would appreciate it if they tell me the exact time they would be coming. I don’t think that was professional. I am still using them because I get great service on the internet. I keep in touch with my children and friends via internet. Even if the phone line is not working I can use internet to keep in touch with them. I can use my mobile if my land phone does not work and I can use my internet to charge my mobile. Is that not good.
Description of Work: We have our phone connection with Mediacom Communications. This was the only company available in this area when I came here and they were recommended to me. We have been using them since last year. I pay them $29.95 every month for the telephone line. Including the internet and cable connection I pay them $105.
