I first got in contact with Jackie with nautical remodeling on the 17th to weather strip my doors through Angie’s list. I didn’t look much into nautical remodeling since it was suppose to be a simple job and I thought Angie’s list only had licensed contractors. Jackie contacted me saying he would like to stop by on the afternoon of the 20th. When he got there I called him and stated I wanted the front door, back door, upstairs porch door weather stripped, couple floor trims to be glued down, 3 striker plates installed. He stated the front door is warped but he said the door is worth saving since it’s a 3k door just needs to be taken completely down off the hinges to be worked on and sanded to make it stop rubbing the floor on the outside corner. He quoted me $1400 for everything and I agreed to pay $1400 since he stated he needed to take down the front door to sand/work. But he never sent a contract over and refused to send an itemized list. He also told me if I needed anything else to contact him I told him on January 21st that the heater on the bottom level wasn’t working and the water was cold. He stopped by the next day on January 22nd when the roads were open to check out that issue but never fixed anything, didn’t even bring tools and couldn’t even figure out how to use the attic ladder so nothing got done. On the 23rd since he didn’t fix the heater I sent him the home warranty I had stating he doesn’t have to worry about the heater and tankless water heater. The next couple days had ice on the roads so he didn’t come, stated he would come on the 24th. Ended up rescheduling again for the 25th. He was really late and immediately started backing out of the work we agreed on. Did not want to take the front door down to work on it and just put cheap weatherstrip on it. Did not put weatherstrip on the back door and upstairs door to the porch. Did not glue down floor trims, did not install the 3 striker plates. Then left without offering any money back. I called him and said he needs to atleast install the striker plates. He said he would Monday on January 27th but never showed up and I had to contact him asking where he is and he told me he couldn’t come then we rescheduled for Wednesday January 29th. He was late again but installed the striker plates. All he got done in all that time was weatherstrip/doorsweep on the front door that was falling off on front door and install 3 striker plates. That shouldn’t have taken more than 2 hours to do all that. Was late every day he showed up most days he didn’t. extremely rude to everyone at the house, and never offered any money back. Would not recommend any use nautical remodeling and to stay away from Jackie O’Neal if that’s even his real name. If you for some reason want to do business with them make sure to get everything recorded on text, email, or written contract. Jackie will do his best to do all business over the phone so there’s the least amount of proof on record. Also does not appeared to be licensed through the Better Business Bureau and Alabama Licensing Board for General Contractors which was not stated upfront.

Response from Nautical Remodeling
We spent a total of 8 hours on this job with a laborer. We even came over during the snow storm and the roads were mandatory shut down for days. Coastal Alabama rarely if ever sees snow, but we made the trip regardless. We have gone above the call of duty to do everything to please this young couple. One of our workers even got sick one day from the loud, foul smell of marijuana that was coming from upstairs but he kept working. We take 100% pride in making sure that our customers are happy. In this case the girlfriend was at the house and the homeowner, her boyfriend, was out of town working. Every task that we performed, she okayed it verbally to us and also on the phone to him. We sent pictures to the homeowner of the tasks performed explaining the process and he was also satisfied. I stressed to him that the door was improperly installed. This is all that I can do. He and she were fine with that. The upstairs exterior door was also installed improperly and we brought that to both of their attention and the homeowner did not want to pay to have it properly adjusted. Which means taken out and reinstalled. He just wanted it to be able to shut and latch properly. So we installed new striker plates and the door shut and latched. There again I communicated with girlfriend and homeowner and they were satisfied. After some time went by we received a text stating that they want $1,200 back and that $200 was sufficient for our work and material and that he was going to contact an attorney. Before the text the girlfriend had asked us to come over and hang curtains which shows that they didn’t have a problem with us. Also before the text I had spoken with the homeowner and he agreed that when he returned home from out of town that we could look at some other things. He was fine and I assured him that no matter what Nautical Remodeling was here for him. After the threatening text we simply told the customer to let me check the paperwork and I will get back to you. We went to the job 3 times with labor and that’s not to mention the cost of material. Our records show that we worked a total amount of 8 hours and $1,200 of that 8 hours is exhausted because of labor and material and there is a remaining balance of $200. I stressed to him that we did not abandon the job, nor stopped the job but there is a $200 balance remaining. Where would you like us to send it? We love working with Angi and you guys have been wonderful to us and we are committed to Angi. We are learning slowly but surely that some customers have a different agenda no matter what you try and do for them. 95% of our customers are 5 stars and in short I assure you that we take pride and go overboard to please our customers.

We had our backdoor and screendoor reconfigured and reinstalled. Plus, an outdoor awning for protection over our door(s). The alignment for both our inner and outer backdoors was severely off. Nautilus remodeling took everything apart and put it back together the way it should be. Then they created a outdoor awning, secured and reinforced it for a hurricane. This outdoor awning will protect our doors to keep rain and rot from reoccurring. The job was done quickly and the results were wonderful! Look forward to future work done by Nautilus. Appreciate everything they did for us. Would recommend them for all your household needs.

Nautical Remodeling did a super good job. They were easy to work with and their utmost concern was to make sure that I was pleased with everything. I look forward to working with them again. I would, also, like you to know that Jackie, Michelle, and all of their crew were very polite and pleasant to be around. Very Good experience.

We hired Nautical Remodeling (Michelle ONeal:Owner, Jackie ONeal:Contractor) to finish a bonus room. When hired, we asked if they had personnel to execute the job, and they said yes. Our contract was a 6- week schedule to complete all the work. We are now at week 24 (04/29/2024). Jackie ONeal was taking care of scheduling subs and ordering materials. However, Nautical Remodeling mismanaged and wasted $45,000 budget, then want more. They said they would finish the job on their terms with timeline and would have to find jobs to fund our project. They are now telling us we are getting the project for free even though we paid. These people have had client issues and legal problems. First off Jackie is NOT the contractor on any job. [Member Name Removed] is the contractor of his own project and has stated so numerous times, also in front of workers. Mr [Member Name Removed] from the beginning has made numerous changes to the project mainly after what he initially wanted was already built. Workers had to reconstruct the new changes. This has been going on since project began. Workers were getting paid to be on the job while these changes were made, which exhausted some of the initial funds. He loudly stated that he was not paying any more money but by then it was too late because we were deep into the project. At that time there was still money left on the project. So I, Michelle O’Neal, chose to have the remaining balance go towards the purchase of some of the materials and that my company would take care of the rest of the job financially. This includes labor and material to show good faith. We have not asked him for another dime and have still been paying labor and material costs. All this was agreed upon weeks ago with homeowner and is all documented in emails and texts. Mr [Member Name Removed] has been rude and downright nasty, sending sarcastic messages and yelling at workers and getting in their face to the point that workers are afraid to go to his job but they still go to do work. The prices that were allotted for fixtures and HVAC, that were in the initial contract, he took upon himself to change. He wanted me to write a fake receipt for his HVAC system saying he paid more for it so that he could get a discount on his homeowner insurance and I would not do that. He then took it upon himself to call a HVAC company and tell them to put an almost $8,000 unit in and bill me when the original unit was $5,000 including installation. He also picked out more expensive fixtures that went over the original budget and I state again that I have not asked him for another dime. No money was mismanaged. I was in the beginning doing whatever I could to please the homeowner/contractor and still pay my guys to re-do changes. Any extra money that was paid over $45,000 was due to a “change order” that the homeowner wanted and agreed upon. I take pride in my jobs and have other good reviews to show that. This is the first time that I’ve ever come across such a difficult person pertaining to this field. Also this job is 85% completed.

Working with Nautical was so pleasant. With us being out of state we were not sure how it would work out but Nautical Remodeling operates with integrity, honesty and everyone was courteous! If you need any type of carpentry work done Nautical Remodeling is your company! We would use them again and will refer them with confidence!
Description of Work: General Remodeling, actually we started out needing a wall framed, sheet rocked, textured and painted. We are in the process of selling my mom's home. After Nautical Remodeling did such a great job on the wall, we added another 10 items to the list. Each time Nautical Remodeling exceeded our exceptions. They finished the work and sent us completion pictures! We had rotten wood replaced, door frames replaced, entry door to a garage repaired, upstairs ceiling replaced (sheet rocked, taped, bedded, textured and painted) and a door framed and installed for crawlspace. We also had work done on the upstairs exterior which again was done with excellence!

Angi made an appointment for contractor to come to evaluate my problem. When I messaged to confirm the appointment, the response was "can't make it sorry." That is not an acceptable response for a credible business. Contractor should have taken the initiative to advise he had a problem with the appointment time. Proper business courtesy would be to offer to reschedule. Be ware of dealing with this company!
