Great job! We are impressed with the quality of the work and our new back porch is exactly what we wanted. From the first appointment, detailed measurements and notes were taken in order to return a prompt, accurate estimate. Reviewing photos of Cobalt projects in that first walk through confirmed what we wanted and guided the rest of the project. Every member of the team that worked at our home was courteous and attentive to our property and pets. The backyard work area, while a construction zone, was tidy at the end of any work day.
Description of Work: To expand small concrete patio, existing porch roof removed and replaced. Concrete poured and flagstone installed with stacked stone retaining wall, Craftsman style column built, painted to match existing structure with stone to match new porch. Lighting, bead board and ceiling fan installed. Siding replaced and painted to match existing. New gutter system installed. Concrete parking pad poured. Installed new back gate.

When my customers are Happy- I'm Happy. I have set standards as well as policy and procedures. We fire fast and hire slow.. When someone trusts me to work on their home Its a responsibility I don't take lightly. A heartfelt thank you from a customer is altogether missed in commercial construction- my customers are responsible for any success I have and allowed me to pursue my dreams in commercial construction. Thank You Angie's List members!

I had a piece of siding that was blown off during one of the storms. It was just under the roof of a 2-story single family house and it is difficult to access for me as an average homeowner. I saw David's truck driving into our subdivision so I followed him to chase hime down. It turns out his crew was doing a job in the subdivison so I approached David and explained to him what I needed. I was a bit embarrassed as I know this is a small job. David came by later to take a look and told me that his guys will replaced the siding if I just tip them $20.00. So he is basically doing this for free. David also guided me to call my builder and find out where did they get the siding so I can get an identical piece. His guys came after I got the siding, performed the measurement, proceed to cut the siding to size, installed the siding (not just nailed it in, but at my request, screwed them in instead) then took the extra effort and painted them. All these for $20 !!! (I slipped in another $20 since there were 2 guys and I was really happy at that time). It was clear through my experience that David is not out there just for the money. He truly understand the meaning of "customer satisfaction" even though he did not make a dime from me, but he offerred to help out this homeowner and no job was too small. His crew were friendly & helpful, though I am sure they were tired at the end of a long day, they came to help with a good attitude, friendly & helpful. I am very happy to recommend him and I would not hesitate to use David & his crew again.

The roofers did an outstanding job. The roof looks great. I checked after the first hard rain and there were no ;problems to be found with the new roof. The work team caused minimal damage to the landscaping around the house and did a perfect job of cleaning up all scrap material and nails from the flower beds, lawn and driveway. I am also happy with my new gutters and the job the gutter crew did with installation and cleanup.
Description of Work: David's crew reroofed my house. Old shingles were stripped off, new plastic layment was put down and new 30 year shingles were installed. The crew showed up early one morning and completed the job the next day at noon. His gutter crew then came and put up new gutters with gutter guards on front and back of house--3 stories high.

I thought he was very professional and personable. The work was good quality work. There was additional work that needed done outside of what he was supposed to be doing and he actually cleaned an area of our house to see how well we liked it and eneded up basically doing it for us. He just went the extra mile with his services.
Description of Work: David Francis was the gentleman that did work for me. He did a roof and some outdoor lighting for me. He did insultation and repaired a wooden walkway for us. He sprayed popcorn ceiling in my garage. It was a 2-car garage so it was a lot of area that had to be covered. It actually started peeling after about 6 months, and even though we waited for awhile to call him and it was after the warranty he came out and resprayed the whole ceiling again for free. He definitely stands behind his work.

I had a lot of hail damage done. Cobalt Roofing came out to put a new roof on for me. They also have replaced my siding, and the house has never been painted in the 15 years that I've been here, so they painted my house as well. They installed a railing on my porch. They are a great company! I definitely would use them again! The works are all very, very nice as well. They are friendly, total gentlemen! Super Nice!!! Getting ready to start working on my sun room/patio as well. They also put up beautiful new columns for me as well.

Still a work in progress but David has been wonderful to work with to date.
Description of Work: Purchased the "Big Deal" 4 hours of drywall for $150.00 in order to perform some minor drywall repair work and am having more work performed. The owner, David, has been very responsive and is working with me and my busy schedule to accommodate the work being performed. I have not yet had the work performed as I need to finish framing one area and will update this review upon completion.

My meeting with the owner for an estimate went okay. He forgot to call me and was absent for our first meeting but we'd had a storm come through the area and his crews were out placing tarps over exposed homes. Understandable - but it would have been better if he called. We came to an agreement and he was quite willing to negotiate to give me the least out-of-pocket cost after the insurance settlement. The work crew was good and cleaned the area around the house reasonably well but again, not perfectly. The work went according to schedule, and has had no leaks almost a year later. Overall, a positive experience - but I don't plan on needing another roof so don't imagine I'll have business with them again.
Description of Work: They completely replaced my roof, repairing areas that were decayed. Overall they did a good job and the roof looks excellent except for a two small areas where the roof vents are not quite straight.

The reason this roof was leaking was because of the low pitch, I water proofed the low pitch with rubber membrane then shingled the roof to give a unison appearance, I also used synthetic felt. Had entire roof replaced (50 plus squares). David the owner was very helpful in dealing with the insurance adjuster. He reccomended a shingle brand. I checked out some other brands at local stores but went with the brand he recommended. I did choose a pro version of the shingle which was not in stock, but once product came in they had the roof replaced in 3 days. David had also recommended a better material than the normal tar paper which I did have used. I had asked if they could do additional repairs and he was agreeagble to all the work I wanted done with a good price. This additional work included gutter replacement, facia board and soffit repair, replacement of some siding and painting almost all the trim, facia, soffit, and garage doors. These additional repairs were about a third of the total cost and did take longer, but I was not under any time rush. The siding had to be specially ordered but he took care of finding a source and ordering enough for the amount of siding to be replaced There were different people doing the work but the jobs were completed to my satisfaction. The owner did come out to check on the work progress and occasionally thought the workers should have cleaned up better before they quit for the day. Overall I was very happy with the work done.
Description of Work: Had entire roof replaced (50 plus squares). Company did a great job of dealing with insurance adjustor. I also requested additional work to include gutter replacement, some siding repair, some facia board replacement, some soffit repair, and painting all the soffit, porch, house trim, facia and soffit. Also replace additional flashing for metal roofing over a deck and repaired some window frames.

Response from Cobalt Roofing & Construction
I remember this customer because I measured his Home in the freezing wind..my tape measure would not stay on his roof. Our first meeting I assessed the damage, I found errors in the Insurance adjusters assessment ...I explained to customer that I am very good at dealing with Insurance companies and that I have a few adjusters who work for me. I work every claim the same and I make sure everything is 100% accurate. I don't expect the Insurance Company to pay for anything that they are not responsible for, Nor do I want the homeowner to pay for anything the Insurance Company is responsible for. My prices can't be considered high because they are from a 3rd party excepted by all Insurance companies:i e Exactimate. I do believe in fixing things the right way and of the highest quality materials. Fix is right the first time" I had settled with the Insurance company on everything; except for the o&p, overhead and profit. Which would of added 20% to the total amount the insurance company has to pay the Homeowner. The desk adjuster and I had a disagreement, She told me that it is policy and they are not allowed to pay O&P... which was not true because I have 20 files that her Insurance company payed o&p with similar situations.. Dealing with Insurance companies is a lot of work , but my company does it all the time. They are very professional. I was going to send documents to the supervisor to get the o&p when, the customer sent me an email, saying my services were no longer needed, that he got a call from the Insurance company. It is against Insurance law for an Insurance Company to recommend a contractor.A contractor who is on their approved vendor list acts in The insurance companies best interest not the Homeowner. My office administrator called the member, and He was rude to Her. My Company worked hard to make sure his insurance company paid Him what was right. The amount that they finally agreed to was double, however my goal is not merely to increase the claim its to make sure The Homeowner is treated fare , so I stood my ground with the insurance company. most people appreciate my hard work. Maybe I could of done a better job explaining the process. After reading this report I don't understand His thinking. My company and I provided a service and I was never compensated. I was so let down I did not want to think about any longer. sincerely david

We battled a tough leak for over a year, due mainly to the configuration of the roof of the house. We hired Cobalt to design a metal roof porch to cover the whole back porch area which is where the leak was starting. Cobalt came up with a good design, put the roof in and on time, and has made a couple of follow up service calls to check on the roof. We have been very happy with the porch and feel as though it has added greatly to the overall value of the house. backCobalt has done a couple other miscellaneous jobs for us on the house. Each time, we have been impressed with their timeliness and work. I have no problem recommending Cobalt.

The contractor was prompt, professional, courteous, and accurate in his diagnosis of the problem. He even waited several weeks to bill me until we had a good rain, so that I would feel confident he had fixed the water intrusion problem caused by the roof before I paid for his services. Also, he was $200 cheaper than another contractor who was rated slightly higher on Angie's list.

We had roof damage from hail storms and the tornadoes last year, and I finally got around to getting a couple of estimates this year. The two estimates were comparable, but David and Corry from Cobalt Construction were far more willing to go to bat for me in getting my insurance company to accept the insurance claim. The initial insurance adjuster said there was no damage, but Cobalt took multiple photos and resubmitted the claim for me. All I had to do was give my insurance company a verbal "OK" to speak with Cobalt. The claim was approved the second time. I upgraded the shingles from the original roof, and based on David's recommendations and internet research, made a few other upgrades. The roof looks fantastic, the clean-up was thorough, and I'm very happy with the job Cobalt did.

It was time to replace my 20-year old roof, so I solicited bids from four reputable contractors found on Angie's List. All four were responsive and professional. Two quotes were much higher than the other two lower quotes. Cobalt's quote was one of the two most competitive. I chose Cobalt because of the suggestions and recommendations Mr. Francis made during his pre-quote inspection. Also, Cobalt's quote included some upgraded materials compared to the other contractors. Cobalt called a few days ahead to schedule a start date. The crew arrived exactly as planned on the first morning. They were courteous and diligent. The job was completed in two days. The upgraded items were a nice touch. Mr. Francis reviewed the work with me to be sure I was satisfied before writing the check. His crew promptly and happily touched up one or two small details. The roof looks good and I am very satisfied.

After returning home from a weekend trip I noticed a leak coming in from the roof. Immediately I looked up roofers on Angies List, and found Cobalt Construction. After a call to them they where at my residence that day. Kevin got up on the roof and noticed that the big issue was not why I was getting a leak but however that I had extensive hail damage. I proceeded to file a claim with my insurance company. I was AMAZED with how Cobalt and Kevin kept up with everything in the process to get my claim approved. They where very organized and professional and had the experience needed to really do a great job for me. After the claim was approved Kevin came back out to the house with samples within 2 days and 3 days later we where having a roof put onto our home. The quality of work that was done with Cobalt is second to none. They cleaned everything up very well and where very committed to getting the job done right and on time. If there are any regrets I have it is not having them do MORE WORK while they where there. But be assured that when that time comes in the future the only company that i would be calling is Cobalt.

Everything went great once they got started. They weren't able to start on the day we had agreed on because their previous job took a little longer then anticipated. The roofs look great and have an awesome drip edge on them. It turns out that we didn;t need to replace any rafters because they were only water stained and a little sandpaper will take care of that, so David deducted $100. from the bill. He didn't have to do that. They could have changed them out and charged us for them and we wouldn't have known the difference. They removed the shingles and applied a water repellant paper before they put the metal panals on. When David came to collect the payment, he deducted another $50. off the bill because they were not able to start on time. Again he didn't have to do that. I think that says a lot about his charecter. His worker were polite and did an excellent job not only on the roof but also on the clean up when they got done. My only complaint is that I did not recieve a phone call from them when they were not able to start the job on time.
Description of Work: We had three roof that had rotting decking at the ends, where the water runs off. Looked as though some of the rafters were beginning to rot as well. One roof was behind our garage. One was behing our workshop and the other largest one was over our back porch. All of these roofs were shingled. We opted for metal this time since our house has a metal roof.

I contacted Eric Ryan with Cobalt Roofing in December and he promptly came out and gave me an estimate. I signed the contract on the 3rd of April. On the 7th of May I emailed Eric to see when my roof was going to be installed. He promptly replied that they had ordered the materials that day and would be installing on either the 9th or 10th. After a phone call we agreed that the 10th would work. A worker from Cobalt arrived at my home on the morning of the 10th at approximately 7 AM. He went up on the roof looked around and told me the crew would be along shortly. I called Eric around 10 AM and asked him where the crew was. Finally after noon he called me back and said he couldn't get in touch with the owner (David) and it would have to be the next day. Later that afternoon he called and said that the owner was having to deal with some personal issues (illness in family) and Eric wasn't sure that they would be able to do the roof on the 11th. I told Eric to just put my roof on hold and we would reschedule for the following week sometime and he agreed and said we would talk about scheduling the following week. I proceeded to move a pallet of shingles and other materials into the garage. Suprisingly at 6:30 AM the next morning I was awoken by the sound of loud music from a vehicle sitting in my driveway, surprise, surprise it was the crew that was supposed to be there the day before. I asked them what they were doing and they pointed at the roof. I told them I needed to speak to their boss and they said he would be there shortly. I attempted to call Eric but he didn't answer. When he returned my call I asked him why his crew was there and he said that he was sorry about the error but alteast I was getting my roof. About an hour later a man showed up with the dump trailer and they began tearing off the shingles. I spoke with the crew leader who brought the dump trailer and he told me he would have the owner call me. It only took the two workers about 4 hours to reroof the building. About an hour before they were finished I stepped out my back door to see one of the two laborers urinating in my back yard. Without saying anything to him as it was too late to prevent his gross error they finished the job and left. Later that afternoon the crew leader returned to pickup the dump trailer. I told him again that I needed to speak to the owner. I called Eric, my estimator and left him a message that I needed to speak with him about the error. The next time I heard from anyone at Cobalt was on 9 June when I received an email from Eric asking if the insurance company had sent me my final check. I replied no and that they hadn't received a certificate of completion from Cobalt. So after another 2 months of phone calls and clarification I reminded Eric that I still needed to talk to the owner about the urination incident. Finally I spoke with David about his worker's actions. He offered me a $100 discount on the overall bill and offered NO apology. I told him $100 was not sufficient for the worker's action as this was in my backyard not 10 feet from where my son's swingset is. On top of the scheduling problem and the urination incident the total bill from Cobalt was $799.06 more than what the insurance agreed to pay after Eric told me when he gave me the estimate that they would to the work for whatever the insurance company paid. After more emails between Eric and I and a few more phone calls I finally agreed to pay $2,351.68 which was what the insurance agreed to pay minus a $300 discount for the urination incident. The actual roofing work performed was great and it looks great but all of the other headaches and problems ruin the job for me and as I told David in my last email to them, "I promise you this, you will never have to deal with me nor any of my family or friends in the future." UPDATE - After filing my review David did call me to sincerely apologize and assured me that this would never happen again in the future. I would say that this job was a chain of unfortunate events that all fell into place at the same time.

Crew showed up at 7am worked through the day and was finished by 4:30. Company representative came to inspect the work and discovered that the crew had failed to add the roof ridge vent I had requested. Second crew came the next day and added the ridge vent with a half day's work 8am to noon. Final price was exactly what was quoted in the estimate. A small amount of debris left around the house from the work, but in general as clean or cleaner than before the job. Won't know final verdict until after the next hard rain, but I have every expectation that the roof will prove to be snug and tight.

This is an example of how a job should go for everybody. The project manager, David Francis was prompt with his appointment and did a professional job in all respects. His crew showed up at the appointed hour and immediately began work of removing the old shingles. I was amazed at the well organized crew. Each one had a job to do and nobody got into each other's way. Each one doing his part of the job as though the whole project had been rehearsed from start to finish. There were no commands given, no shouting of orders, and absolutely no horseplay or smoking. Moreover, there was no extended lunch break. In fact, they only took a break at my insistence as it was getting rather hot on the roof. The placing of the shingles was done rapidly and with precision. Even though there were three pairs of shinglers, they came together perfectly.Cleanup and removal of material was complete and my yard was left as nice as when they came. The interior job was to repair the damaged ceiling and wall and to paint them both. Again the worker on this job was well organized and knew his trade. He was also professional in all aspects and the disruption to our use of the kitchen was held to the absolute minimum. After all, plaster and paint need to dry.The exterior job was also done perfectly even though this was not a very big project and it had to be done straddling a chain link fence. I had the carpenter add a soffit vent while he was at it. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. I had been putting off the project precisely because I didn't want to experience the usual unsatisfactory and often shoddy work done by other "tradesmen".Believe me, I've had my share of shoddy work. This job was the exception.
Description of Work: The largest part of this job was roof replacement with architectural shingles and ridge vents. Three turbines need to be removed and the holes re-sheathed. Other pieces of rotted wood were torn out and replaced. Repair of water damage to the kitchen ceiling and wall was the interior job. There was also a requirement to replace rotted wood in the soffit due to leakage from the old roof.

Initial call for estimate was returned the same day and visit was made the same day for an estimate. However, the owner (when he arrived for the estimate) seemed to have a huge ego and attitude. He was more concerned with talking about how cool his truck and his ladder were than actually giving me an estimate. He had little interest in walking around the house with me to give the estimate (although was happy to point out other work he could do while doing the roof). Then he had to be prodded to leave an actual written estimate. I found him to be a joke and would neither recommend use him or recommend him to others. His price did tie for the lowest price of the estimates I received, however his attitude ensured I would not hire him.

Response from Cobalt Roofing & Construction
She gave me three A's and one F. Therefore the overall should be at least a C. She was not friendly and She got insulted when I offered to repair all the rotten fascia and siding. She was not interested in the specifications of the job ... I would like to be graded on my knowledge of construction and local building codes. I want every customer to be happy, although not always possible , I do try. I love what I do and I am more grateful to all my customers that like my truck. A few more posts like this and my wife will make me sell it.

Based on Angie's List reviews, we asked three companies for estimates on installing a metal roof on our log house, which had an existing shingle roof. David from Cobalt was the second one to visit and give us an estimate. We didn't even wait for the third company to give us an estimate. We were very impressed with David's knowledge and his description of how the job would be done. He showed us photos of previous metal roofing installations by his company. He answered all of our questions, took measurements, and then quoted us a better price than his competitor. We already knew that a metal roof would cost much more than a shingle roof, but Cobalt's price was much less than what we had expected to pay. We were told that we had 3 or 4 jobs ahead of us and there would be some delay before our job was started, but that was ok because this wasn't an emergency. Dale and his roofing crew did an excellent job and conducted themselves in a very professional manner while on the job. They were very respectful of us and our property and cleaned up around the house before leaving. The roof looks great and doesn't leak!
