I would give them no stars if it were an option. I called on a Monday morning to have a new key made for my car. After three and a half hours of the locksmith unsuccessfully programming the key, she told me that she would come back later in the afternoon, and charged me a $275 deposit. Not only did she not come back on Monday, she never showed on Tuesday, either. I have scheduled appointments every single day of this week, only to be stood up. I have called multiple times, only to be told that they will call me back. (Which has not happened.) I had to purchase a rental car for the week, and I don’t know what I would have done if I didn’t work from home. This company no-showed on me every single day for an entire work week. Update- TWO WEEKS later, of calling every three hours every day and not ever hearing back from one of their locksmith technicians, they tell me that they are unable to make my key. If they would’ve just said that in the first place, instead of forcing me to stay home all day, every day with no response, I couldn’t taken my business elsewhere. I have been nothing but polite, courteous, and probably WAY too understanding in this situation. Today, after over thirty phone calls with these people, I had to resort to hollering because the “customer service” woman named Sandy REFUSED to listen to me and hear me out so that we could come up with a plan of action. Instead, she continued to blow me off and talk over me, and even after all of that, STILL doesnt know the reason I called in the first place. This is, by far, the most unprofessional business I have EVER been in contact with. Do yourself a favor and don’t even call.

They showed up an hour early on a Sunday, which is a no-no to me. They clearly came in the door looking to sell us on their gold-star package. When we declined and told them that we'd be in touch, they did a marginal job of cleaning the dryer vents. They did blow out our dryer vent, and that was worth having them out, but when I had a ServPro rep in to check if there really was a mold problem ? an inspection that was free! and came with DIY advice ? he told me that you could hardly tell that they'd been there. I will absolutely not hire them again, and not only will I leave a very poor review here, but I do plan on writing it publicly on my blog. Vendor, please do not contact me. Your team was so terrible that I am wholly uninterested in talking to you.

We responded to a coupon deal to have our vents cleaned. Job was done adequately. However the tech knocked the plug out on our freezer when he moved the unit and never replugged it. Only by luck did I notice this the next day. Tech removed the dryer vent shield on the outside of the house and didn't properly reinstall it (loosely hanging off the house). Expect a high pressure sales pitch for extra services. When called they denied moving the freezer and suggested maybe my wife unplugged it. I was told I could "just nail up" the dryer vent. After words they agreed to come back and repair it.

Alabama Fresh Air Inc. just tried to rip us off really bad. There were two guys. One of them did all the work and the other guy talked to us the whole time and told us that we needed to replace all the duct work under the house. The house is only 13 years old. He said they needed to change it out and we agreed to that. But we had someone from another company come and they said there was no way the ducts needed to be replaced, that nothing needed replacement. I called Alabama to cancel the work and they didn't question me at all about why I wanted to cancel the contract. I figured they would try to give me a hard time but I told them the second company came by and said the duct work doesn't need changing out. I've noticed a lot of lint and dust in the house and am not even sure he cleaned the vents well or at all.

When I called them to get a coupon honored. The girl on the phone was very pleasant and we set up an appointment on a Fridayfor 8 am-9:30 pm. At no time did shesay this was a window for when they would arrive. I told her that Friday is difficult for me to take off work because it's the busiest day of our week, but she assured me I would be able to leave at 9:30. At 8:20 on Friday I called and said they hadn't gotten there yet and reminded her of my time crunch. She said they would find out and see what the problem was.She called back and said the tech told her he would be here at 9. I again told her the about taking off work and that I would have to leave at 9:30and asked how they could get the job done in ½ hr. She kept apologizing and at that time told me the 8-9:30 was a window for arrival, to tell me how long the work would take. I told her I thought that was ridiculous to start with and that I should have been made aware of that at the start as I would never have booked anything like that on any Friday. Two technicians did show up at 8:55 and one is professionally dressed in his work clothes, the other person, who spent his entire time in my home leaning against the door frame, was not. The tech that obviously worked for this company came through the door telling me "his girl" would not have set an appt for him to be anywhere for 8 am and and told me that I wasn't telling the truth about what was said when i made the appt or when I called that morning because he trained "his girl" himself and she always told everyone she talked to that it was a "window of arrival". He interrupted me everytime I tried to speak until I finally told him to "shut up and let me finish what I had to say" and he got upset and threw his business card on my floor. We went back and forth for awhile and told them I don't want their work. I did tell him as well as Marlene, the lady on the phone that I expected "Joseph" the owner, to call me, but have not heard back from this company. Stay away from this company!

Short and sweet, I rejoined Angie's List primarily after these guys came to our home. My wife dealt with them; while I got updates via the telephone. About all I said while they were there was "Don't pay anything beyond a $50 nominal fee for the 'inspections' they did" For about 3 years my wife has considered this service. If I recall I sort of dissuade here, while not outright putting the hammer down. It just seemed fishy and the type of thing that takes advantage of our collective fear of interior pollutants. When the day came, we were not prepared. That is, normally I would have done plenty of research and laid out some questions for her to ask or red flags. But "I'm so cynical"; so this time, for $218 (we have two systems), meh, let it go. They arrive as I'm leaving for work. "My wife is inside. She'll take care of you" - boy they must have salivated Less than an hour later I get the call. They had found mold and mildew on the vent covers (they went write past using "M word" vernacular). And "Our ducts were tattered and not well connected" So, until they could fix those, there would be no cleaning. That saved us $218. I am glad they did not proceeed and tear up the ducts further, of course, I have no faith in there assesment. We might have a couple bad runs, but of the 15, most (if not) all are fine shape. I've since read enough to know that with our soft ducts, if in fact we have mold, that replacing is the answer - not sanitizing with a spray and brushing. I get home to see the eistimate $218 for Duct cleaning $700 for cleaning two furnaces $2800 for all new ducts (I'm not sure why we'd have to pay $218 for cleaning them, if we got all new ducts) $1200 for two UV Lights. ~ $4900 I hear we were being given so many discounts that the UV Lights were free, for all intents and purposes. We'll heed some of their findings but be prepared and seek more opinions before spending thousands. So we are back on Angie's list. We came from Indiana 6 years ago. Back then Angie's was not here or not a large presence. I see it has grown. Thank goodness. We all need each other. And when you pay a little to be a member, you get a more responsible collective.
Description of Work: Two men came to give us the 2 x $109 duct cleaning special 45 minutes later, after an inspection under the house and in the attic, my wife learned a good bit more about out HVAC system.

Complete cleaning of the duct work was questionable. Duct "leaks" under the house could be repaired for a generous tip. I am unable to get under the house to see if these really existed. Mold control seems to have worked. There were only minor traces on the under side of grills. Did not have a comfortable feeling upon their exit!!

I had the $109 full system cleaning coupon. When they came out and I saw what our vents looked like, I freaked out. (We are in a rental house that is over 50 years old). I was fine with the cost of sanitizing the system, but felt pressured into doing the whole package, including the UV light - over $1200 in all. I ended up having them come remove the UV light because I couldn't tell a difference with it in - and our air actually feels fresher without it. We did get their reusable filter - a waste in my opinion. They talked about mildew in the air vents and mold on items they pulled out of the vents. I was disgusted, but not surprised. The guys were friendly and used boot covers while in the house. They did leave some areas that I had to have them go back and vacuum up. Overall, in hindsight, I'm not impressed, and I wouldn't use them again. Next time, I will use a HVAC company.
Description of Work: They cleaned and sanitized the air ducts/vents, deodorized the house, and installed a permanent filter and UV light.

We did it because there was a lot of dust but it didn't really change that. The problem was that they came up with about $3,200 worth of stuff that they thought we needed. They kept coming up with more and more stuff that we needed to have done. We had a maintenance contract with our AC and they came out and did it for free. If they would have charged us for it, it would have been like $60, it certainly wasn't the $1,800. It was basically one of those that we had a coupon to have it done at a reasonable price but when they came in they terrorized you. Had we not done a lot of our own building and replacement they would have scared us to death. The guy that was doing the work was very clean, professional, and nice about it. The guy that they bring with you, the owner, was terrible. I would not use them again and I do not recommend them.

They arrived promptly and were (overly?) polite. My husband spoke to them of our concerns with too much dust, and too much heat in one of the bedrooms/bath. We use the 'best' filters (2 air returns in the house) Lowe's offers, yet bought electrostatic, permanent filters from them, probably paying too much. But that's our fault. The heat/cooling distribution problem was out of their area of expertise, so after viewing the duct work in the attic, they set about cleaning the ducts through the vents. I don't know how far into the ducts their vacuum hose went, but it did not seem to me to be a very effective process. The work was completed quickly. The clean up was hit and miss. The 'lead' (one of the owners, he said) was quite talkative and smooth. The 'sit down' to discuss costs and services sent up a red flag. Everything was an add-on in cost, and although we weren't pressured into purchasing more than we had intended, plus filters, we may have, it seems in hindsight, if our home were older and we weren't savy. It would have been better to hire an actual HVAC company that could inspect the entire system and clean the ducts. I don't think these people know anything about HVAC systems, nor do I feel the 'duct cleaning' was comprehensive.

I got a coupon out of Valpak for an $109 "Air Duct Cleaning" (huge font on their ad) in January. This is the exact ad: "Unlimited vents and returns: we open, brush, and vacuum the entire duct work under negative pressure." I had heard of air duct cleaning scams before, but I thought to myself "it says it right here on the ad, they're going to clean the 'entire duct work.' The gentlemen (2) arrived at my house at 1:30pm and were greeted by my wife. When I got home from work an hour later, they were all but finished. They immediately sat me down in the kitchen and started with a very shady sales scheme in which they said things like "for legal/liability reasons, we can't say 'the M word,' but you've definitely got it." He wanted to spend the next 1.5 to 2 hours cleaning the entire duct work to start, my blower fan motor, and my return, for a total of $680. My first thought was "wow, $680 for two hours of labor, even my attorney friends don't bill their clients $340/hour. So of course I quickly said "i'm sorry, but i was under the impression that the duct work and return had been cleaned?? Isn't that what the coupon said?" He responded that the coupon was for the vents only. I asked my wife to fetch the coupon and she was unable to find it (naturally, we found it about 10 mins after they left). I was a bit confused to say the least, but let him continue. He also recommended installing a UV light system to 'zap' all of "the M word" before it enters the system, for a mere $600 (i later found the exact model on ebay for $140 delivered, and apparently they take 15 minutes to install). Lastly, he said we could have all of the ductwork replaced instead for $1600, which he assured me was the lowest price in town. As evidence, he pulled an old tattered estimate sheet from a competitor showing that this other company had quoted someone $2300 for duct replacement...this estimate was so old and beat up that it was literally falling apart. I told him that I needed some time to research all of these services, discuss them with my friends, etc., and he promptly said "that's fine, I understand, how 'bout you put down a $50 deposit now for any service, and you can apply that when we come back and do the work." That was probably the biggest red flag, and I very politely thanked them for their work and told them to call me in a week. I've since screened all their calls, and this month's valpak came in the mail recently, with their same coupon claiming to clean "the entire duct work." I'm usually good about sniffing these things out, and had i found the coupon while they were here, we would have had some words. So the whole ordeal was a little embarrassing. The guy was a very well spoken immigrant and I can see how his charm would work on a senior citizen or woman, but luckily I returned home before they had time to intimidate my wife without me. While I wouldn't classify this as an outright scam, it was at best a classic 'bait and switch,' and we've since hired a professional certified mold inspector who spent 3 hours at our house and found absolutely no mold whatsoever. Google "air duct cleaning scams" and they all follow the same general blueprint that was used on me. Buyer beware!
