This was a very good renovation experience for me. I had been dreading the process for two years and actually feared it because I am a female alone. I was afraid of basically two things, I would be taken advantage of in terms of money and quality, issues would not be resolved and the workers might be dishonest since I worked full time and could not be at home. None of the fears were justified; the workers were very honest, any concerns were resolved right-away and I never felt in leaving my house open, I was vulnerable. I felt safe throughout the project. Another factor of great concern to me was I had a specific budget I had to stick to. I had lived in my house for 20 years and had been thinking for many years about what I would like to change about my house. This process initially included only adding a master bathroom but grew into adding-on to include a luxurious master suite, master bath and walk-in closet. Additionally, I wanted to move my laundry appliances out of the kitchen and into an actual laundry room in the area of the house where the bedrooms are to include space for a washer/dryer, cabinets and a sink. I then wanted to change the kitchen laundry closet to a walk-in pantry, and add square footage to a small existing bedroom. I had reservations about attempting this project on my own but Charles was there from beginning to end to make recommendations, bounce ideas off of and advise. He could not have been more helpful. He always told me the truth (and not what I just wanted to hear) and was ready with good advice. Charles has very good taste and really did not need me to make choices in lighting, etc. but I was very involved in the process of choosing everything from tile to cabinetry. In many cases Charles presented options and I chose. The project went on from August 2012-February 2013. There were two major holidays within this period so the workers were not present for only two weeks during the holiday weeks. Mike and Terry were at my house every day during the six month period and the flow of work proceeded on schedule and often ahead. There were periods where we would have to wait for materials to arrive ( like doors and windows) but work didn't stop they just moved on to other work until materials arrived. Charles would come every morning and talk with Mike and Terry about what needed to be accomplished that day and work proceeded at a brisk pace. Always in the hands of Mike and Terry were a level and a builders square. There is no doubt in my mind that the renovations done by Vaughn Lumber Company were plum and square throughout the project. They even corrected problems they ran into where my 55 year old house was not square so that their work would stay square! I am so happy with the renovations. I am feeling like I am the smartest person because of how good the experience was, how I went to see Vaughn Construction's work prior to signing-on and how beautiful my space looks. My friends have been amazed at how much quality was in the lay-out of the space (Charles was responsible for) and the craftsmanship of the overall project. I am very pleased. Charles gave me his cell phone # 256-337-1957 and we texted and called regularly to provide updates to each other. Monthly bills were itemized in great detail and submitted to me monthly. Charles even returned materials we did not use to save money on materials costs.
Description of Work: After interviewing me, Contractor, Charles Vaughn, created a CAD design of my project on paper. He bid the project based on his CAD design and the other areas of my home I wished to renovate. From beginning to end, Charles directed the daily work of the three men involved in my project. Charles stayed on top of ordering the supplies, making recommendations for materials that would stay within my budget and was also responsible for scheduling all the sub-contractors on the project including plumbers, electricians, flood refinishers, and tile installers. Charles made sure everything got done and was the go-to person when a quality issue or concern arose.
