I had a Range Hood Vent installed as part of a larger kitchen remodel. I spoke directly to the owner of the company as he quoted my installation. Once they job was invoiced it was significantly higher than was was quoted to me. The owners answer was I sent the quote to the project manager. Be very careful of what this guy tells you. I wouldn't recommend this company nor will I use them in the future

They did it all in one day. All others said 1 and 1/2 or 2 days. We had been without A/C for 3 months and we only had a narrow time window to get it in. Another HVAC company I thought had scheduled us for the previous week. When I called them that week, I was told that it was for the following week.Thomas HVAC had given us an estimate weeks before and the choice was between these 2. When I called them the 2nd time, Brian came out and rechecked the job at our house on thursday and said they could do it on Monday. Which they did. They also replaced the return duct as the previous installer had left gaps that made the unit lessfficient than it should have been.

Description of Work: Upstairs AC stopped cooling on a Sunday and Thomas sent a technician named Lee out to troubleshoot on Monday afternoon. After less than 10 minutes he reported that the Thermal Expansion Valve had failed. He said the repair would be around $1700 and that with a unit as old as ours that we should just replace the unit. We questioned him that our unit should be under warranty and he said that it was a 2005 model and was not covered. We found the copy of the extended warranty and it was in fact still under warranty. We notified Thomas that we wanted the unit repaired under warranty and they agreed on Tuesday. They did not have the part and said they would order it and would come to repair on Thursday. We got a call from a salesman named Josh to see if we wanted to repair the coil or replace the unit. We explained to him that there was nothing wrong with the coil and we were waiting for the THX to come in for the repair. We were then told the part was in and we could schedule it for Thursday afternoon. We took off work for Thursday afternoon and called after lunch to confirm the repair time. We were promised that the repairman would arrive between 3 and 4:00. At 4:30 when no one had arrived I called the office and got the answering service. They had Lee call me back and he said that he was not sure why they told us that it would be repaired that day because the part had not arrived. Friday morning we called early and were told that yes the part was in and they could repair that day. We took off work again and Lee came and replaced the valve. Before he left he was questioned that the air coming out of the unit was hot and not cool. He responded that it was because it was too hot outside and that it would take some time for the unit to cool down. At around 10:00pm when the temperature inside was still 88F we called the answering service and they sent out a technician named Rocky. He was very thorough and found that the THX valve was not working and would have to be replaced again. We were told that the part would have to be ordered again and the repair was scheduled for Monday. We called several times on Monday and were finally told that the part had not arrived and the repair would be done on Tuesday. A call to the Trane warranty department identified another local repair shop that could repair the unit under warranty. When Thomas was told that Trane had been contacted and that they would not be paid for the repair because they had not fixed the unit, they immediately became more responsive. The new part was installed by Rocky on Tuesday and the unit worked properly. Be very careful of Technicians that immediately tell you that the repair is going to be so high that you need to replace the unit. The communication within the Thomas office is dysfunctional and the customer is not kept up to date.

This is an unprofessional company and they tried to rip me off. I'm filing a complaint with ALABAMA BOARD OF HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING REFRIGERATION. On Jan 27, 2016 Lee (the technician) said I had a hole in my heat exchanger. It would cost $3800 to fix IF he could find a replacement. He advised on a new unit. He verbally gave a quote for $12,000 Trane and then for a $6900 for Amana. He did not fire up my unit. He looked at it for 10 minutes, max. He didn't test anything. He showed a picture of the exchanger taken on his phone. He said I was lucky the unit did not kill anybody; it was leaking carbon monoxide; it was a death trap. This was alarming. So I didn't notice when he didn't provide a receipt. I paid $79 with AmEx & signed a hand held device. Also, he didn't provide a written for the diagnosis. This is rental property I'm getting ready to rent out. I was only thinking how I could get a new unit and not have to pay $7000. It was freezing and the property still had no heat. Two days later another company gave a 2nd opinion. They said someone disconnected many connectors inside the unit, even high voltage, which is dangerous. There was a short in the PCB, which may have been the original problem or caused by whoever disconnected everything. The new guy, Brian, replaced the PCB. We watched the unit run for 45 minutes. I personally inspected the heat exchanger and didn't see holes. We watched the flames for "rollout". That's indicative of a crack in the exchanger. There was no flame rollout. Brian had a carbon monoxide detector. We held the detector next to every register with the heat on. All said 0.0. I paid Brian $330 and started wondering about the two radical opinions. I emailed Thomas with my concerns. I asked if Lee disconnected the connectors. I told them the unit had a minor problem and it was repaired for $330. I asked for a copy of the pictures and for Lee to return to show me where he found the holes. Lee said he was "required by law" to disable the unit. I asked which law he was referring to. No response. I know the IFGC (Int'l Fuel and Gas Code) states in 108.7.1 that a "code official" can condemn a unit if they provide a WRITTEN NOTICE. If the unit is an immediate danger, a code official can condemn it without notice but they have to give one afterwards. No where did I read a service company can condemn a unit. Remember I got nothing in writing from Thomas. I contacted Thomas several more times. I wanted to resolve the "death trap" Lee claimed vs the minor problem Brian fixed. I wanted see the holes in person. Lee and Thomas were cavalier about coming back. I emailed and called several times. Byron got on the phone and yelled at me. He said I had the pictures so why do they have to come back? (Really Byron? You're going to yell at me?) If it was a "death trap", you think they'd be concerned. Meanwhile, I discovered a major HVAC scam contractors are pulling: the tech tells the consumer the heat exchanger is cracked; carbon monoxide is leaking; it's a death trap and they need a new unit. Hmmmm.... sounds familiar. (Get on google & type "heat exchanger carbon monoxide HVAC scam" to see for yourself.) The facts that Lee 1) never fired up the unit, 2) only checked it for 10 minutes, 3) had no CO detector and 4) showed mobile pictures of the heat exchanger (a big no no, never rely on a tech's pictures) leads me to believe I was being scammed by Thomas HVAC. Lee did NONE of the American Gas Association's five-step method for inspecting heat exchangers for leaks. (http://icemeister.net/Articles/FYI/heat_exchanger_inspection_pdf.pdf) Lee and Thomas HVAC condemned my unit without authority. They shut it down in an unprofessional manner: disconnecting and hiding connectors rather than using the unit's disconnect. They disabled my unit in the middle of winter for a marketing ploy simply to sell me a new unit. It's unethical & unprofessional. So if Thomas HVAC tells you that you have a cracked heat exchanger and need a new unit, GET A 2nd OPINION! Educate yourself on this HVAC scam... it could save you thousands of dollars!
Description of Work: Thomas HVAC disabled my unit without authority by disconnecting several internal connectors. They told me I had a hole in my heat exchanger; it was leaking carbon monoxide and was a death trap. They advised me to buy a brand new unit for $6900. I received no receipt, no written diagnosis and their quote was verbal too. I had to ask for a written quote the next day in order to spec out a new unit, which I never needed anyway. They said they're "required by law" to disable the unit after determining it was a "death trap". That's total BS as the IFGC (Int'l Fuel & Gas Code) only authorizes "code officials" to condemn units, not service companies who are trying to sell units and may not be honest! I had my unit repaired 2 days later for $330.00. Thomas HVAC disabled my unit in the middle of winter simply to pressure me into buying a new unit. I'm filing complaints with Alabama Board HVAC and American Express to get my $79.00 back! BEWARE OF THESE GUYS!!!!

Description of Work: The fan on one heat pump outside unit had stopped. A mouse had shorted two wires and the technician also discovered the start assist had been disconnected,by another Trane company, instead of fixing it when the unit was under warranty! He checked my other unit and discovered it too had a capacitor that was burned out. Both units were fixed, cleaned and are ready for summer. The repairman was very prompt, courteous and knowledgeable.

The entire Thomas HVAC Team responded to our needs for two new heat pumps in our home (2 ton-upstairs, 5 ton-downstairs). I commend Ryan for his untiring efforts in installing our units with Trey?s assistance. It is rare to see such exceptional work ethic in getting the job done right. He and Trey worked on Friday, Saturday and returned again on Sunday after church to get the job done in extremely cold weather. Ryan represents his company well and has the integrity and work ethic that my wife and me so much admire. A couple of days after installation they also promptly returned upon my request to replace a faulty thermostat with a new one to optimize overall performance. I am comfortable doing business with Thomas HVAC. This is a huge investment and I am hopeful of continued exceptional and reliable maintenance services for our home H/C needs.
Description of Work: Thomas HVAC replaced my two 14 year old Heil heat pumps with two new Trane split heat pump systems. The heat pump warranties for both labor and parts and their past performance on HP installations solidified the sale.

Absolutely the best service I have received from anyone in years. I was out of town when I got a call from my Mother explaining that the HVAC unit compressor was out. I called Thomas HVAC which I had used the previous day for the first time at my home and ask if they could go quote and check out the unit. They went beyond and actually brought out and installed a window unit and then checked and quoted me for a new unit. They said if I chose someone else they would pick up the window unit when the new unit was installed and it was at no charge. Their quote come in $1,700 below another quote and I ask them to do the replacement. They said they would come out and take care of it on Monday, which I was going to be out of the country on a cruise. When I was able to contact them they had done the replacement with a new Trane XB13 unit, they had showed up on time and finished the job all in one day. The invoice was exactly what they quoted and they took care of my parents while I was away. Service like this can't be beat and the price to me was very reasonable. Great company all around. Thanks.

They did a great job, showing up on time and performing the work exactly as proposed. They disconnected the air handler and moved it to the center of the basement to stay out of the way of the waterproofing contractor, then constructed a new steel support base to replace the original wooden base which had molded and was very dilapidated. They then returned after the waterproofing contractor had completed his work, and reconnected everything and placed it back into service. I was very pleased with the service, and thought the price was very reasonable.

I called Thomas HVAC and spoke to a very nice gentleman explaining my problem. at 8:00 AM. He told me that there was a repair tech working not far from my house and he would come as soon as he had finished with his customer. He asked if I would like to be called when the tech was on his way and I said I would. In about 30 minutes I received a call to say he was on his way. The technician arrived and asked some questions about the detainls and timing of the failure etc. He then began working to find the problem. He checked every possible area that could cause the problem. He was very polite and patiently answered my questions. The unit had more than one problem which made it difficult to figure out but he did discover the source of the failure and quickly repaired the damaged parts.. The young man was very pleasant and clearly was well trained for his job. He did not hesitate to explain what he found to be the problem and what he would need to do to fix it. I was very pleased with the entire experience. Without hesitation I would recommend Thomas HVAC Company they are friendly, very knowledgeable, and punctual.

Thomas HVAC has always been very responsive when we have had trouble with our heater/air conditioner in the past. I had also heard how they were very reasonable on new HVAC units as well. Bo did a good job of explaining some different options and worked with us to find the best fit for our home/preferences. I didn't expect them to have us a new HVAC unit installed so quickly during the busy summer season, but they had everything installed within one day of our old unit dying. We have been very pleased with the performance of our new HVAC unit, and with the work performed by Thomas HVAC.
Description of Work: Replaced our old HVAC unit with a new Trane dual fuel, variable speed, high efficient unit. A new duct to provide more airflow to our master bedroom was also installed.

I have had a good experience each time I have called Thomas HVAC. A friend recommended them to me. I plan to use them for any heating or airconditioning service needs in the future, as well as purchasing/installing a new unit some day.
Description of Work: Had a problem with the condensor fan on my home's air conditioner. It was not working. Called Thomas HVAC, and they promptly came by to check it out. I had diagnosed that it was not the fan motor. They confirmed that, checked the control panel, etc. Turns out it was a bad control wire between the control panel (on the main unit in the garage) and the condensor unit outside. They ran some new wires and the unit works great.
