I called the company in the morning and they were at our house shortly thereafter. They quickly diagnosed the problem -- bad indoor blower motor. There was not one in stock in town, so they ordered one with overnight delivery. They had me going when they received the new motor. The motor was still in warranty so no charge for parts -- very happy about that! I have used McCormack Heating and Cooling for over 30 years, at multiple residences, for both installations of new systems and for maintenance of existing systems. They have always treated me fairly, done good and timely work, and have been reasonably priced. Mr. McCormack runs his business according to the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I recommend them without any reservations. (And no, I was not asked nor paid to write this review.)
Description of Work: The technicians replaced the indoor blower motor of our upstairs AC unit (which is in our attic). It had stopped working altogether.

New unit required a larger base so crew poured the concrete and let it set for three days after first removing the old unit. After the base was cured they installed the new heat pump, new thermostat, and repaired any duct work that was questionable. All done in one day, new unit has performed flawlessly for more than a year now. McCormack has serviced my heat and air equipment for going on 20 years and two houses. Always professional and responsive.

They were very good, although we had lost refrigerant over the winter, they said the leak was not detectable and recommeded that we not spend a lot of money at this point to replace anything. It held up all summer with no problems.

The techs were prompt, professional, and courteous. They did a general inspection of the unit, including checking the pressure. They specifically told me that the coolant pressure was good. They ended up replacing a power supply wire and a control module with parts they had on hand. They did a pretty good job of cleaning up debris before leaving. I was pleased with their professionalism and willingness to communicate with me, and for a few days after they left, the system appeared to be working better. Unfortunately, ongoing problems were masked by warmer weather. The next time it got cold, the unit again failed to de-ice. My dad, who is more familiar with heat pumps than I am, was in town at that point and discovered that the unit had a faulty coolant valve and the coolant level was actually quite low. Once he recharged the coolant, the unit worked correctly. Since we fixed the issue on our own, I did not contact McCormack's. However, since they overlooked (or possibly even caused) the bad valve, they won't be the first company we contact next time we need help.
Description of Work: Techs came out to diagnose a problem with my heat pump -- the pump was working, but the resistive heat wasn't working and the unit couldn't de-ice itself.

Service man came. When I explained the problem, he rudely stated that he would not work on a new system and the problem was an issue between us and the installing company. He then walked out without a further word. I had explained the problem completely to this company's telephone scheduler. I should have been informed at that time that their policy was not to work on new systems.
Description of Work: Had a heating/cooling system installed (heat pump and main distribution system) about a year ago. The installing company has not been able to get the temperature of one room to a comfortable level after three attempts. So I went to Angies List and contacted this company to see of they could correct the distribution problem.

Response from McCormack Heating & Air Conditioning
Our Company is willing to work on ANY unit. This customer had used a Company that we know very well. We did not want any problems with the other Company, so we decided it would be best to allow the Company that had installed it to correct the problem. This is a policy that most Heating & A/C Companies respect. We did not Charge the customer even after our Service Tech went to the home and explained to the customer that he needed to call the other company back.

The AC compressor failed to turn on for 20 hours 9AM Sun to 5AM Monday, the fan ran OK. Shutting the circuit breaker off and on did not help to clear the problem of the compressor not starting. Called on Sunday and left a message with McCormack. They had repaired this unit in July 2009 for $450. The compressor started on its own at 5AM and ran for 2 hours to reach the thermostat temp of 83F. Set the thermostat to 81F at 7AM and compressor failed to kick-in again. Technitian came Monday morning after the compressor started on its own after a second unexplained delay. Since the AC was running normal, turned breaker off, inspected the unit, did not find any problem, then back on and AC restarted OK. Did not suggest any repair and there was no bill.
Description of Work: Carrier 3ton packaged central AC unit was inspected and found to be OK after failing to work for 20 hours.

Service tech was on time and very polite. Spent approximately 5 hours going up and down from attic to A/C units outside cleaning and testing. One unit has not been performing as well, hence the call. Service tech found a faulty metering valve, ordered part and replaced several days latter.
Description of Work: Cleaned and serviced two A/C units as well a replacing faulty metering valve. Very polite and professional. Signed a yearly maintenance contract for servicing and cleaning after work was done due to the fact I was pleased with service.

Replace the second bad factory evaporator coil 3 years after the initial replacement. Properly repaired the under warranty part ($0) and labor for $450 to replace coil and add 8 lbs of freon. Gave a lower estimate, half of the $900 estimated from the original A/C installer. Had trouble getting the part delivered promptly from the supplier. Had to call the supplier myself to request priority and that the next available evaporator be used for our repair.

I called McCormack on a Monday because my Air Conditioner didn't turn on on the previous Saturday. I also mentioned that, while they were sending a guy out, if he could quickly take a look at my furnace to help find the filter (I'm relatively new to my place), that would be great as well. They were able to send someone out that afternoon. Chad arrived VERY promptly at the 3pm appointment time. He was very helpful and easygoing. He discovered that a spider had died between two contact points and cleaned it out. After, he had no problem coming and finding the furnace filter. I think a less reputable Heating and AC company could have easily lied about what was wrong, choosing instead to sell me parts and labor I didn't need. While I think $75.00 for a standard service call is a bit expensive, honesty is worth a premium. I would use them in the future.
Description of Work: Serviceman arrived, inspected my AC unit and removed a spider from between two contacts. After, I asked him to come take a quick look at my heating unit to help me find the darn filter (yes, I felt stupid after he found it).

Other companies we contacted said they would charge more for labor than the warranty covered and we would have to pay the difference. One company wanted $500 for labor. Office staff, Mr. McCormack, and the technician were courteous and professional. Technician arrived on time and had the job done in about an hour. He even checked our outside unit for leaks at no extra charge. Since then, we have contacted McCormack for advice on a musty odor. They were very willing to talk about the problem with us even though we may not need their services.
Description of Work: McCormack Heat & A/C replaced our A/C compressor under warranty from ICP, so we weren't charged for parts or labor. New compressor had to be ordered, so we had to endure Summer heat for about a week.

The unit that heats the main floor of our house stopped working. After several days of trying to determine on our own what was wrong, we finally determined that it was simply not lighting. Since units no longer simply have a pilot light, we had to have someone out to look at the system to determine what was wrong. We used another company to come out and look at the system, as my husband had used them before. After waiting for over an hour past the 2 hour window for the service man, I was told what was wrong. I did a cursory look on the internet to determine the price of the control board that this company said was wrong. The cost of the board was somewhere between 150 and 200 dollars. However, the other company said that they were going to charge me somewhere between 500 and 700 for the part. This was not to mention the fact that they would also charge me labor for the installation as well. I decided that I would rather go without heat for another day and see if I could find someone else. I actually used Angie's List to find McCormck. I called at 8:00 the next day and talked directly with Mr. McCormick. I explained to him my dilemma as well as the problem. He asked me some information and was able to find the board. He even went as far as to tell me the cost of the board and how much he was going to mark it up and why. He said that since I already knew what the problem was, that he would send someone over to repair the system without making me pay for a service charge! When the technician (I regret not getting his name), came in which was in just a few hours... He quickly and nicely went to work. When finished he stated that I probably had not needed the entire board, rather just a cheaper piece that would simply create a spark. He stayed to ensure that the system was fully working, watching that the gas was lit not just once, but several times. Then he noted that there was rattling, and proceeded to investigate (all on the same call). He said that there were some screws missing from the system. I told him that my husband would handle that, since he had already assured me that it would not affect the system. He actually went to his truck, got spare screws and left them with me to give to my husband! What a great guy!!!! We are now warm and toasty, and if we ever have a problem again, McCormicks will be the first (and only) call!
Description of Work: Came in and replaced a bad control board for the furnace used to heat the living portion of the house.

We have used McCormick Heating and Air and recommend them to our friends. They are honest and do a great job at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: Heat Pump outside unit stopped working during the heat-wave. Called up and they came out later that same day. Turned out to be a bad capacitor. Suggested that we go ahead and replace the other cap in our second unit also since they were already on-site (they asked before doing it). Worked great!
