Description of Work: We had a leak around our chimney. They replaced and sealed all the flashing. They also saw a "backup" problem with our gutters- they cleaned them, and installed 2 more drain spouts, and anchored all of the old ones. Not a problem since.

Their process for reacting to customer needs is good. We need our roofs and we need a reliable roofer who will stay in business to honor guarantees and come back for other jobs. Don't use roofers that haven't been in business for a long time.
Description of Work: A strong wind took off a patch of shingles and left a portion of the roof exposed to the approaching rain. Lewis and Son came out with 4 hours and patched it with a tarp. They then came a few days later and gave me a repair estimate on the spot with a computer right in their truck. A few days later the experts came and put in new shingles very efficiently. Totally happy. Customer satisfaction is the hallmark of this company.

Best experience we have had with a contractor in a long time kept us well informed and completed the work on time without any surprises.
Description of Work: Lewis and Sons Roofing replaced our entire roof (shingles) and 4 sky lights and provided excellent service. We had water damage and they were very helpful dealing with our insurance company and keeping us well informed during each step of the process. The workers were on time every day and worked long hours and completed the work in 3 days and cleaned up everything when they were finished. Our roof looks great and we would recommend to anyone to use this contractor for roofing as well as the other services that they provide just as sliding and construction.

Very smoothly, and in a very timely manner. Each step was well-coordinated.
Description of Work: Extremely professional contacts and performance. David Sharp willingly re-scheduled his appointment to review our leaking roof when my husband had to go to the hospital ER. Shane Lewis and Jeff Matthews were here daily to check the progress of the roofing, the repair of the interior ceiling, and the installation of two large replacement windows. Outstanding work was done in each category; I have kept the names of each craftsman, and will definitely contact these folks again! I wish all my repair experiences had been this good. If you need roofing or construction work performed in a professional manner, start here! David Sharp, Sales Manager 256-348-9891

Called a couple of times, but had a little trouble connecting with the right person. On the third try, I was able to make an appointment for them to inspect the scope of work to be done and to go over the details of materials and approximate time for one of their roofing and quot;teamsand quot; to do the job. I had planned to have the garage roof replaced at the same time, but that was going to be over the budget I had for the entire job, so I settled for just having the house done. It had been raining off and on, but on a clear day the roofing team came early that morning and began work. They finished the same day and checked the yard and driveway for random nails and other small debris. All in all, it looked good. However, I was a bit surprised at how the corners of the new shingles were done as the old roof had covered the wood, but the new roof did not. There was bare wood exposed now and it had to be painted. It was such a small job, no painter was interested, without painting the entire house (which I wasn't ready for). So I did my best to paint the exposed wood myself. I wish the Lewis folks had told me about this and I would have had them do while they were here, since it was only a few places.
Description of Work: Replaced an old and hail damaged roof on the house.

The garage work was done in half a day and the work looked good. Not only did they need to replace the shingles there was also some rotted wood that needed to be replaced, which they did. We were pleased with the quickness of the roof replacement. The work was done and they cleaned up after themselves. The cost of the garage roof replacement was $1,750.00. We felt the job done was worth the price. The other job we had them do was a more complicated job. The plan was for them to install stormguard underlayment around the chimney, install new step flashing and counter flashing, install 30 year shingles , replace offset and damaged brick on back of chimney, repaint to original color and install a new custom chimney cap. We paid $3,200 for this work. The work was done in a timely fashion and I was pleased at the time. The work had a one year warranty which I should have been concerned about at the time. For a year the work seemed to be holding up, no leaking water on our ceiling. A week after the warranty was up and a rainstorm I had a puddle of water and there was water leaking at the same spot as before the repair. I immediately called Lewis and Sons. They sent one of their very polite young estimators out. I was pleased they had been so responsive. He checked out the chimney and the roof. He mentioned they would use stormguard underlaying on the area as it was a new product that seemed to work well. Fortunately I had my work order from the year before and I noticed they had used that very product on my roof. I informed the estimator. He told me he would confer with his boss Jimmy. After talking in his car with his boss, he came back and told me they could fix my problem for about the same price I had paid the year before about $3,000. Since the work was done over a year earlier they would have to charge me to fix the leak. I was incredulous and furious. Needless to say Lewis and Son will not be stepping foot on my roof or property again.
Description of Work: We hired Lewis and Son to replace a garage roof and to do a more complicated repair over a sleeping porch which had developed a leak around a chimney.

Early one morning during a rainstorm I heard a sound that sounded different. Since our bedroom backs up to the fireplace, I could hear what sounded like dripping and water hitting metal. Getting up into the attic, I could see water dripping down the chimney, all the way to the slab and firebox below. I looked up with my flashlight and saw what appeared to be a whole lot of rotted wood, meaning that leak had been there for some time. I emailed 5 roofing contractors. Lewis and Sons was the first to respond and were there the next morning at 9am for an estimate. To be quite honest, they were the highest estimate, but I also think they were the most honest about the amount of work that needed to be done. Most other contractors only included replacing the cap; Lewis and Sons included removing and replacing all the rotted wood, repairing the damaged siding, replacing the cap with a new one that actually fit the chimney, sealing everything up and clean up. They originally quoted me one day; it took them two days to finish the whole thing because they found a lot more rotted wood than they were expecting. But when they finished, the new chimney and cap looks great and no leaks! Definitely would use again!

I don't have any "Don'ts.The overall job was of the highest of standards, the workers were very courteous and friendly. Mr. Lewis was over seeing all work done and there were no mishaps, misunderstandings and the work was of the highest quality.
Description of Work: Lewis and Son replaced our roof, not because it was leaking but because it was old and we didn't want to wait until we had damage to the inside of our home before replacing our roof. When Mr. Lewis came to inspect the roof he took his time, answered our questions and made suggestions that would make our roof safe for many years. We did not have a good venting roof so Mr. Lewis gave us several choices as to what could or should be done and we did accept his suggestions, and thought they were all good suggestions. Put in a new venting system which has proven to be a life safer in the attict temperatures. We were given a date within a couple of weeks when the work would begin and like clock work they were here at 7:00am sharp, and were going to work. They finished all the work in one and one half days (1-1/2), cleaned up the yard, removed all the mess and roofing nails and you would not have known they were here if you didn't notice the new roof. We were very satisfied with Lewis and Son Roofing and Construction. They did a beautiful job, and were in line with other estimates we received but we felt we got a more personal relationship with Lewis and Son. They came when they said they would for the estimate, they gave us the estimate, according to recommended adjustments we made together and they showed up on the day the work was scheduled. We were contacted about five days before work was to begin to make sure our original scheduled date was still a good date for us. Mr. Lewis came out a few days after the roof was finished to make sure we were satisfied with the work done for us and we appreciated the time this must have taken away from his day.

They made a mess. The workers were goofing off and messed up our basketball goal. The roof began to leak around our chimney during the warranty period. I called Land Sons several times. They cold not or would not fix it and we had to keep a bucket in the den for rain. Finally had to get it fixed so I had to call another roofing contractor and pay $1500 to get it redone.

I ask for someone to take a look at my roof on 3/18. On monday the 21st they checked the roof and save me my estimate with an installation date of 3/28. The following day I received a call stating they wold be able to start on the 24th. The work was started on the 24 th and finished on the 25th of March. I have solor panels on my garage roof, I feel this had a great deal to do with the higher job cost. All in All I couldn't be more pleased with what was done.
Description of Work: All new decking, new roofing, new flashing on walls and chimney, new flanges on all vents and around solar panels. Ridge vents on house and garage. Ten year warrenty on labor. Lifetime warrenty on shingles.

Our experience was terrible as described above in the detail of service performed. Giving this contractor a "C" is generous. We give them an "F".
Description of Work: We had leak coming into the bedroom and it was determined by this company that it was the roof. After flashing had been replaced messily it leaked again with the next rain. They returned to determine then that it must be the gutters. Another down spout was placed and with the next rain it leaked again. Now it has been said that rain must be coming through the siding!! All the while we questioned if maybe going through the ceiling inside where the leak was surfacing might better determine where the leak was originating. They repeatedly stated that was unnecessary. After giving 50% of the cost up front and a time that they were to come to fix it, they did not call or come for several weeks nor return calls. I would see their company vehicle around town, but not heading toward our house. Eventually the supposed job was done, but we STILL have a leaking ceiling into our bedroom and are looking for a reputable contractor that can figure this out!

The roof leaked in three places during the first moderate rain. I had to go to their office several times because the repairs didn't work. They finally sent out a foul-mouthed individual who complained that, "the fools that put this roof on didn't know anything about roofing." His own company! But the leaks stopped. In a few months more leaks showed up. This summer we celebrated our 13th leak. It doesn't do any good to call them - their response is no better than their installation. If you are ever offered any service by them, run like the wind.

My only experience is with their estimator, P.B. He was overbearing, rude, obnoxious, and insulting. When he got to the point where he told me what I would do if I were 'smart,' the conversation was over. All of this occurred before he even when up to look at our roof. Had my husband been available, I do not think he would have been quite so condescending. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The only thing that I can say about the company is that they chose poorly in their representation.

I had 3 contractors quote on the roof job. One completely underestimated the number of squares (shingles) required and gave me a low ball bid. Lewis and Son was completely up front and honest about the total job -their price quote was the middle quote of the three jobs. I selected due to honesty, punctuality and the fact they were a certified roofer on the shingle company's web site. The were there exactly when they said they would be and did an excellent job.

We got seven estimates. Lewis and Son was the next to the lowest bid and they bid 25-year shingles compared to 20-year for most others. (I also got bids from everyone for 30-year.) They were courteous and professional with the estimate. They answered my questions about how to handle the flashing around the chimney. Once we contracted to do the work we scheduled a day. The materials showed up the day before. The crew of 6-7 guys was there by 7:00 the next day and did the entire job (about 4,500 sq. ft.) including clean up in one day. I came home in the middle of the day and they were all working like a well-oiled machine, each one with a task that fed into the next guys task including one guy who was taking water to the rest and doing odds and ends. I went up on the roof and looked everything over myself after it was finished. The next day their inspector/money collector met me. He asked if I had any questions (which he answered) and said they had underestimated the size of the roof by 1,100 sq ft which was why their bid was so low. They had to go out and get more materials to finish the roof the day before. (I'm guessing the estimate guy measured but forgot to include the attached garage.) However, he said they had bid the price and that's what the price was regardless of their mistake. Their clean up was very good though there was grit everywhere, a few nails and debris in my attic from where they had cut the roof to install the ridge vents (there was no way they could have gotten in my attic to clean that up.)
Description of Work: Removed old shingles, installed new paper and 25-year shingles, install ridge vents over the entire house, replaced pipe flashing and flashing around the chimney, cleaned up and removed all old roofing and materials.

We contacted with them to perform the work after receiving a fair estimate. I was told it would be 1 week to 10 days before the job would be done. I was told it would take 1-2 days to complete the job. I waited 3 weeks without hearing anything from the company. I called them and was told they would be out the next day to set it and then back on Monday to finish out the interior. I told them the next day was no good because I already had things scheduled with my child's school and really wanted to be home when the work was done. I was told no problem they would be out 7:00 am Monday to do the entire job that day. At 7:15, no one had showed up. I called them and was told it would be lunch before someone would be out, but that they could still get the job done that day. At 1:00, no one came or called. I called AGAIN and was told they could have someone come out and set it, but would not be able to finish it as previously told. They would have to finish up the next day. Having already rearranged my schedule for the week to accommodate the Monday timeframe, I told him that would not be possible and I just cancelled the contract. They are very eager to come out to your house and give a good estimate and take your money. But when it comes to fulfilling their end, they do not do what they say, when they say they are going to do it. They even don't call you and update you on anything. YOU have to do it. Stay away from anyone that won't at least do what they say when they say it or at the very least update you as to the progress. Also, checked the BBB website and they have SEVERAL complaints against them.
