The builder’s agent was courteous and hard-working and did a great job to land a sale. The local builder seemed to be a good guy. Construction was going very well until an error made in modifying the concrete slab after pouring caused a complete failure of the slab. JBH fought us until we had a certified home inspector / structural engineer put his word behind a report stating the failure. Jeff Benton homes agent told us and then wrote on the initial contract that they will pay the closing cost, if we get mortgage through their preferred lendors. Based on that written agreement, we went with one of their preferred lendors and guess what, on the closing day, they told us that they will pay only fifty percent of the origination fee, which is one of the closing costs. They didnot pay the full origination fee as promised initially and written per our original contract before building the house. That is very unprofessional of Jeff Benton and it is called bait and switch. Based on this experience, I am inclined to give an overall D to Jeff Benton who promises one thing and does it differently. I am already dreading my future interactions with them who wont stand by their promises and even written agreements !!!.

The representative was polite and attentive,as he has been whenever we called. Willing to listen and not afraid of spending whatever is necessary to make it right..

At first I was very satisfied and would highly recommend Jeff Benton Homes. It was my first home buying experience, and I was very pleased from beginning to end. Unfortunately, after less than three years of being in my brand new home, I must now replace my entire roof. I had several contractors come out and each advised that my roof was built without flashing, and the J-channel was nailed directly into the roof. Also, each contractor that went up on my roof brought down a handful of nails, and advised that my roof is covered with nails and should have been removed by the builders when they finished the job. This is unacceptable. I have been informed that my house should not have passed inspection. Unfortunately, as a new home buyer, I did not have the wisdom I have now, and selected an inspector from a listing provided by Jeff Benton Homes. That was my first mistake. Coincidentally, the leak did not surface until last week, and of course my warranty expired 10/2013. It is unacceptable that for the amount of money I spent, and the fact that I bought a brand new home to avoid major home repairs within at least the first five years or so, I am now having to replace my entire roof. There are other areas of poor workmanship in the construction of my home that have surfaced over the last year, but the roof is a major expense that no one in a new home should have to replace considering we have not had any major storms that could have contributed to the deterioration of the roof. The problem with the roof is purely poor workmanship. I am very disappointed, because I believed that Jeff Benton Homes built beautiful quality homes, but have learned otherwise. The poor workmanship that went into the construction of my roof is unacceptable.

The house was already built and they pressured us into buying it. After 2 weeks we realized that we made a mistake and asked out of the contract. They refused and tried to make us buy it. We finally settled on letting them keep the down payment. Yes we made a mistake and signed the contract. However, we got absolutely nothing out of the deal. We lost $4000.00 plus some pre paid closing costs.

While the home is structurally sound the finish work is shoddy. Many nails popped in Sheetrock, Sheetrock tape coming down, brick mortar issues, floor issues, window issues, horrible landscaping. Many of these issues we gave up on. Took months and months to get others resolved. They advertise how satisfied their customers are, we'll ask those customers after a year. Survey is done within the first few weeks of owning the property. Will never do business with this company again.

Two problems with the home:First, the fireplace vent was routed through the back wall of the house and under a covered patio. The patio area is entirely clad in vinyl siding that the manufacturer warns will melt when exposed to high temperatures. After all of my neighbors with similar fireplace vents experienced siding melting and drooping we asked Jeff Benton to vent the fireplace through the roof and they refused. I have since had the fireplace vented properly at my own expense.Second, the retaining wall in the back yard was made out of poor quality landscape timbers. We replaced this wall with a masonry block wall and found that the timbers used by Jeff Benton were mostly rotten, used railroad ties carfully positioned to hide the damage. Had we not replaced this retaining wall it would have undoubtedly failed prematurely. We asked Jeff Benton to compensate us for inferior materials used in this retaining wall and they refused.

Jeff Benton Homes did an amazing job, and provided a very smooth process from pre-construction through closing. The quality of JBH shows, and significant attention is paid to every detail. JBH makes the home buying process easy. Every aspect from the home builders manual (provided to each new home owner pre-construction), to the various walk throughs and inspections, to design studio appointments is well rehearsed and everyone is extremely friendly / helpful. JBH promptly follows up on any issues (we encountered only 1 with our new home, one of the keys we received didn't work, they had the lock smith out the next day to provide new keys), and they are prompt to address followup appointments (e.g. 60-Day). While it's completely understandable from a cost / sub-contractor perspective, JBH permits a great deal of customization, although they won't do truly custom modifications (e.g. installation of an in-ground storm shelter or whole house generator during the construction process). I would use JBH again, assuming my next house isn't fully custom.

They built an outstanding house for me. The quality of the workmanship is great. They seem to have gone the extra mile in doing it nice.
