Used AFS for encapsulation, perimeter drain, dehumidifier, and sump pumps. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and informative. The install crew (Jesus, William & Russ) did a ton of hard work, very quickly. After having several unrelated contractors at the house, it was refreshing to have such a positive, polite and friendly install crew, also they did a great job.

Description of Work: They came out to fix the work they didn't do correctly the first time. That was several years prior and they had been charging me a $119.00 service fee each year to verify it was working properly. When I requested and estimate to complete the crawlspace the price was 2 times what it was when I first started the work with the company. I contacted Crawlspace Doctors for a quote also. Crawlspace Doctors came out and the quote was half but more important is that I was notified that the company that put in my pumps has done the job incorrectly and showed me pictures. I contacted AFS and they did come back and fix the problem. I was kind of upset as they had been charging me for 3 years for maintenance and never told me there was a problem. The trenches were dug correctly and pumps put back in. They did correct the job. I am happy that they stood by fixed it however I still will never trust the service techs they send out. I had more than one that told me everything was fine and I also was never offered the refund of the years when the job was not done right and I paid for something that didn't work. When I finished my crawlspace I did not use AFS and probably will not use again.

Description of Work: Installed sump pump and covered drain in cellar. There was lots of jack hammering and dust. They took no precautions to keep the dust from the AC in the cellar, so there was a major repair required. Very earnest young man with slick brochures, but not much bang for the buck.

Description of Work: Placed a liner throughout my crawlspace to keep out moisture and prevent mold. Additionally placed 2 helical foundation supports to level the foundation and prevent future settling. | |No complaints about the job they did installing the crawlspace liner or the piers for the foundation. However, during the first rainfall after the installation the moisture alarm activated. When I went into the crawlspace to deactivate it I found water pooling under the liner and seeping through an unsealed joint in the liner. | |I called them back out, they returned and agreed that I needed a sump pump to remove the amount of water that was present. In their favor, they agreed to install a sump at half cost. I agreed and that was when the "fun" started. | |First of all they sent a "technician" out to install the pump but did not provide him with a plan on where to put it. So he asked my wife where it was supposed to go. She had no idea so he left, but not before collecting the payment (my wife paid him before he started working). | |I called them to get someone out to perform the work that we had already paid for so they sent out another installer, again without any plans for where to put the pump. This time the installer just put it in where he estimated it should go. | |I called ASF to get an explanation on why the installer chose the spot for installation, because I have been under the house after a heavy rain and the pump was installed about 20 feet from where I have noticed water pooling. I have not heard from them since. | |To be honest I don't know if the pump is in the right place or not. The pump has not been hooked up to an electrical source yet because ASF does not do electrical and when I had the liner and dehumidifier installed it cost me $450 to have the electric wires run for that (I had ASF subcontract for the electrical) and I do not intend to have another service installed until I know that the sump pump is in the right place. Or at least have a chance to talk to the installer and find out why he chose the sump pump site (he may have a good reason but I may never know). Looks like service after the sale is not their strong point.

Everything was completed in a timely manner. It was a professional job though and though. I would definitely recommend AFS to all my friends and family.
Description of Work: AFS came and evaluated the project gave me a price we agreed upon. They began work the next week. The employees were polite and courteous. They cleaned up after each days work. The holes were dug and piers were put in place and raised the low side of the house back into position. I'm very pleased with AFS work and the friendliness of the employees.

We contacted this company based on a two referrals one was a friend they did work for and the other is a structural engineer who we had ask for recommendations and he gave us two companies. When I called to get an appointment I was very impressed with how my call was handled promptly( not left on hold and could understand the young lady I was talking to. The estimator was very professional and on time he spent alot of time inspecting our house ( about 2 1/2 hours) and he took a lot of pictures. He took is time to explain what was going on with our foundation and he had a well thought out plan to repair it complete with a drawing and pictures. We were concerned with the crack brick we had some areas where it was real bad as to rather it would go back together or not. The estimator explained to us that when the foundation moves and the brick cracks debris can fall behind the brick which can prevent the brick from moving back together when the foundation is lifted. ( The brick did not go back in some places and did in others). The crews who did the work showed up as planned and the Foreman explained to us every step of the job and he answered evrery quetioned I had as the work proceeded. The crew cleaned up evey day too I would recommend this company to anyone who has foundation problems they were great from start to finish. .
Description of Work: We contacted Alabama Foundation Specialists because of severe foundation problems (cracked brick, cracked sheet rock and unlevel floors). What they did was install 15 Helical Piers under the exterior foundation footing to stabilize my foundation and stop the brick from cracking. ( This involved digging under the footing and then screwing in these helical piers to what they said was inactive soils.) I had interior sheet rock cracks, unlevel floors and doors that would not close so they installed 10 floor supports under various interior walls to the correct this problem as well. ( This involved going into our crawlspace, digging out and pouring conrete footers for each steel column floor support and then lifting the walls). The whole process went just as the estimator said it would and we could not be pleased more with the results.

He was responsive in responding to the request for an estimate. I called to have my foundation inspected and to get an estimate for foundation leveling. He gave me two written estimates, but he really wanted to sell me a drainage system that would channel the water around my house. It was very expensive, around $20,000, and that was too much for me. I just wanted to know what it would cost to level my foundation.

I couldn't have been more pleased. Very professional from my first phone contact with them, through the salesman right up to the installation and the followup. I would let these people do any work on my house without reservation.
Description of Work: The salesman was professional and courteous. They did exactly what they said they would do on the schedule they said they would. They checked back up with me to make sure it was done correctly. Undoubtedly the best service experience I've had in a long time. Highly recommend. They eliminated my long running water problems in my basement.

The salesman arrived promptly, was courteous and friendly. He examined our crawl space and took pictures. He showed us pictures and gave us a quote for water control, and a separate quote for mold remediation (see separate Envira-Kleen review). The foreman was talking down to my wife and trying to intimidate her into paying for the “completed” job when he couldn’t prove the job was done because the electrical wasn’t done?? The work was INCOMPLETE: One of the sump pumps had not been wrapped completely in gravel and was not plugged into a yet to be installed outlet. Worse yet, one of the E-Z flow drain ends was completely open. I called the salesman to report the unfinished job. The next morning the same work crew showed up and I explained the open E-Z flow drain and the gravel issue. The foreman was short with me, argued that the work was done and said “but if that’s the way I wanted it he’d do it”. The field manager arrived with gravel and something to seal the E–Z drain. I showed the manager some pictures on my lap top computer that I had taken of the work and he promptly showed them to the foreman. When I inspected the work later that day there was still packing peanuts and additionally a concrete block on the lawn. I looked in the crawl space and to my disbelief the work looked terrible. There were two electrical outlets hanging by their wires and one of the sumps was barely plugged into the outlet. This is really poor installation work! Bottom line is the work was poor quality, the foreman rude and arrogant, and they left the job unsightly plus dangerous. It was eventually fixed (at least the part I could see) after contacting the company owner and complaining.
Description of Work: Interior Crawlspace Drain and Sump Pump Installation: They installed drain pipe around the inside perimeter of the crawl space of my house. They installed two sump pumps and electrical outlets.

We initially hired AFS in 2006 to fix a foundation issue with our condo. The work was performed promptly and we then remodeled our home. After asking AFS to come out several times for an adjustment due to the floors having humps in them in places there shouldn't be supports, one of the AFS people finally discovered the piers were incorrectly installed. They were misplaced by a few feet and thus not supporting the load-bearing wall as intended. By this time (Oct 2010), our newly remodeled home had once again begun to show cracks in the sheetrock and tile due to the unsupported foundation. The tile cracks also resulted in water damage to the ceiling below. AFS initially quoted us to fixed the foundation again but once we pushed them they finally agreed to do the work for nothing since their original work was improperly done. They did nothing to offer repair for our home citing their terms and conditions states they will not repair internal damage due to raising the structure. Our argument was the damage was due to the unsupported wall, not raising the structure. In Aug 2011 we had a contract to sell our home and another structural inspection revealed there was additional work to be done to adequately support the structure. We once again asked AFS to fix this issue since they were hired in 2006 and again in 2010 to do so and had yet to accomplish this goal. They offered to do a small amount of work for free to add additional support but in the end we had to end up paying them more money to fix it as requested by the buyer. This was a discounted rate but it still felt like we were paying for more of the same work that we had originally requested be done. The employees of the company were very good to work with and the owner was fair in the end but had to be pushed fairly hard. I wouldn't use them again but if someone else uses them I would highly suggest getting everything in writing and keeping good notes.
Description of Work: The services we requested were foundation repair to support a load-bearing wall of a condominium. They installed around 12 total steel piers and added several support beam s over a 5 year period.

I liked the fact that they do this the best way that is known for lifting a foundation. We had an issue where we think the job was originally undersold and they had not accounted for enough lifting points. It did come down to me getting the owner of Alabama Foundation Specialist (AFS) out here and looking at what I was talking about before they came out here and put additional supports under the house. I have an understanding of construction practices. To their credit, the man took it on the chin and he paid for the additional support and additional labor to fix the house. I told him that I contracted with him to fix my house, not how to do it or what to do it with. As far as I could see, they hadn't done that. At that point, he came out, he looked at it, and he agreed with me. He sent his guys back out here and they went ahead and added the additional supports and then solved the problem. I have had them out here once to make an adjustment. Aside from maybe one more adjustment, it has come out very well.

I think the work crews are reasonably competent. The estimator/owner was not very knowledgeable or observant. Could only measure distances and divide by 6. Misdrew the shape of the front of the house. Did not notice the cracks and sags other than the original one I pointed out. Clearly did not want to be bothered by client asking questions.
Description of Work: I found some cracks in the brickwork on my home, one place particularly wide. Called AL foundations, and an estimator came out. He told me what he thought was needed and sent a plan denoting where piers were needed. The work was done satisfactorily, with only a minor change, where a large rock prevented the installation of one pier. They reduced the price for the work not done. I then call a brick mason to regrout and replace bricks as necessary. He pointed out to me that there were several more places along the front of my house where the walls needed to be propped up. I recalled AL foundations and the estimator said yeah I guess that's right. 8 more piers were installed as were some aboveground props under a rear deck. The second installation did not go so well. More of the landscaping was destroyed, and the water line to the house was broken. The patch for that did not work and several hours of fumbling around went on until a plumber was called back to find the problem (mud and debris had been sucked into the pressure regulator valve). The crew foreman told my wife as he left that more work needed to be done and that the original estimate misplaced the piers, but he had placed them correctly. When I called the office to talk to the owner, he was difficult to reach and when reached said he would call back the next day after contacting the foreman. No call for 2 weeks. Called again, was told I would be called within 48 hours. Never received a call back. Several conversations with office personnel were fruitless. Finally gave up and had brick work done and re landscaped the affected areas.
