He presented quote and stayed with this amount. He subcontracted crews for this job instead of using his own people but did not tell us this until the problems started. He hired a "friend" to remove the brick wall that that included a fireplace. The man had only regular hand tools, was ill and had other personal problems. He pulled the wall down and left our house open to rain and the elements for over two weeks. Rain got in our interior walls, ruined the sheet rook and warped our new wooden kitchen flooring. Same guy was to remove the roof part completely where the addition would attach but tried to remove only a minimum part. He would not do what we asked and the contracted had to come out twice to see it for himself before he would make it right. I finally demanded that the man not step foot on our place again, before the contractor would get someone else on the job.Another subcontractor was to pour the new slab and tried to pour the concrete right over the grass yard with no dirt prep. Then they destroyed the termite bonding by digging all the dirt up near the existing house. Later the porch area developed a very large crack and we were told that it was due to improper footing during the pouring process. The top was so thin that it has now flaked off and the porch looks like a rough pour. The builders were from Murphy Contracting & were ok, but we had to watch everyday and have them replace bad wall studs and crooked walls. Still they managed to slip in some bowed wall studs that did not get notices until we installed the bath vanities; one area is close to 2 inches in gap. Sheet rock issues were the same. Had to examine every seam and have them re-mud and or sand many area. The exterior trim subcontractors were guys that usually did work that was covered by vinyl siding. After having them twice remove fascia wood with holes in it, they too were ejected by us from the house. Each time the contractor made sure we knew he was unhappy about being called to address a problem. He never came out to inspect the work unless we called him. The porch roof was built at too low a slope and leaked until he had to put some special rolled roof tile instead of the roof tiles that matched the rest of the home. We actually ended up being the site foremen and quality control instead of the contractor. The work took several months longer to finish because he was using hired crews as he could find them. We had developed this project with him months in advance of starting the work so he just didn't see us a worth the use of his primary crew. Will say that he did cover costs of repairs to the sheet rock wall damage and replaced the kitchen flooring but after all the problems, stress and poor work, Would never use this contractor again or recommend him.
