Dowsey Plumbing

Dowsey sent out a technician who stated the problem was the heating strip. A week later, he replaced the heating strip. However, the heat still did not work during the next cold snap. I called Dowsey again, and a different technician came by. He stated that the problem was NOT the heating strip. He stated that he didn't know what was wrong and would "do some research" and call. He never called. In the meantime, the bills started arriving. My significant other stopped by Dowsey and spoke with the owner, Mark Dowsey. The owner promised to come by the house himself. Once again, he never called or stopped by. Yet the bills kept coming. I wrote a letter to Mr. Dowsey asking him to stop sending bills or fix the problem. I never heard anything back, and the bills kept coming, now with late charges. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and still not heard from Dowsey. BEWARE AND DO NOT USE.

I called Dowsey and explained the problem. Chris came and looked at the toilet and said he would have to get the part. I told him where I purchased the toilet. Nearly two weeks passed so I phoned Dowsey again and was told Chris would have to get back to me. Chris finally called and told me that the toilet was too old and that they (Toto) didn't make parts for it anymore. The toilet is less than six years old. I contacted another plumbing service. They came, looked at the toilet, ordered the part and replaced the defective fill valve as well as the water supply line. Later I receive an invoice from Dowsey listing a service call for $100.00 and a statement saying "customer will furnish parts." I phoned Dowsey, explained the situation and told him I didn't think the invoice was valid. He suggested we split the amount. I told him I wasn't going to pay anything because there was no service completed. He said if I didn't pay my bills and could sleep at night, O.K. I told him that I would have absolutely no problem sleeping at night because I refused to pay that bill.

Great. They had to dig to the spot of the break, repair the pipe and cover up the spot. They did it all in an hour.

On Friday about 3:00 my neighbor called to report that there was water squirting out of the side of our house. On investigation, I surmised that it was the tankless water heater and according to the puddle on the ground, it had been doing this for some time. Having been given a "homeowners warranty" with Old Republic Homeowners warranty service by our Realtor upon purchase of the home I immediately called them to report our emergency....long story short, we were told that it was inconvenient for anyone to come out at that time, (maybe Monday) .......so I immediately called my neighbor for a plumber and received no response to the person he recommended, so I went to Angies list and read reviews and selected Dowsey, Inc. Upon calling them I recieved their answer service because it was now after hours and considered a weekend. Michael Baker from Dowsey called me back in a short period of time and said he would be right out. Upon arrival, he informed my wife that the part needed would have to be ordered but he shut the spraying water off and told her (and showed her how to turn back on) if she wanted to do dishes or shower it was ok to turn it back on for a limited time and then shut back off. Meanwhile he left and our problem was temporarally solved until he could order new parts. About 30 minutes later, Michael shows back up with a part.....he had gone back to the warehouse and taken a part off of an old machine that had been scrapped, put it in our machine and now everything works fine. I can't say enough about the service I recieved from Dowsey and Michael Baker, their motto on their card is "we put the serve in service" and this is absolutely true. As we have just moved here, they are our go to plumber from now on. !!!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

It was great service. They drained the old heaters and hauled them away. They were very efficient.

When I called for an estimate I was informed of the hourly rate plus parts, however I could not get any more information from the person on the phone. She would not give a ball-park estimate of time or parts cost, which made me uncomfortable to trust. I decided to use them solely on the positive feedback here on Angie's List. The repairman arrived on time and was very professional. I was disappointed that he didn't have the cartridge in the van and had to run to the store to purchase one, especially since I tried to tell the person on the phone that I had a delta shower and suspected the cartridge. He arrived back and made the repairs in reasonable time. I can only hope I'm not charged for the time it took to purchase the part, but I won't know until I get the bill. I was not provided a final bill at time of service and was told they will bill me. This also makes me nervous. I don't understand why there is such secrecy around prices in this company. I think most people are intelligent enough to know that an estimate is just that, an estimate. As for service I rate the company with an A. Hopefully I won't have to modify this when the bill arrives.

They were wonderful. They did the work, looked at faucet that I was having problems with notified me BEFORE they went into overtime. Do you know how hard it is to find a good plumber? I feel like I've hit the jackpot. No wonder they had the highest marks on Angies list.

As I have said, I have four homes and have used Dowsey consistently since 1996. They are always prompt, efficient and get the job done.

Called at 11:15 pm; problem solved by midnight. In spite of me pulling him away from his family and/or bed, Rusty was cheerful, courteous and competent. He had the parts on hand and solved the problem quickly.

I have used them for years and they are great. They are not cheap but they provide quality workmanship.

They are not a big company but I like them because they are local and they are near from where I live. I called them and gave me an estimate. I approved it and they started to do the work.

Timing was a big issue for me as during this time my husband and I were making trips every other week to Birmingham for my husband to have tests at UAB. The first time I tried to schedule with Dowsey, I had to choose another company because they could do it sooner. However, I then had to cancel the first plumber's appointment due to my own illness. When I called Dowsey back a second time, and explained my situation, and that we would be leaving again shortly, they were very helpful in working me in the next day. Their servicemen were right on time, went right to work and fixed the problem with our water heater which to our surprised was more simple, and cheaper than we expected. It was also helpful to us that payment was not due at the time of service; we were billed later. There are not many companies that trust customers to pay later anymore.The servicemen were professional, polite and did their job very well. I would definitely use this service again.

Perfect. Every one is very professional, neat in appearance, know what they are talking about, know what they are doing. Drilled the right size holes (not like some others who leave gaping holes and don't fill them in).

They did a good job. We have used them before too. Their price was probably as competitive as anybody else. We would rate them highly and would most definitely use them again in the future.
