Services we offer
Residential and commercial landscaping, lawn, tree & shrub care.
They did a reasonable job but they kept wanting to do tree and shrubs, airways, wanted to do this and that. Sometimes they just did a service and then he said, "By the way we did this, here's the bill." It was good for the lawn but they didn't always ask me beforehand. The work was usually done at reasonable time and they did seem to be effective it's just that sometimes, they just want to push extra services on you. They did give me a discount but they keep adding services without asking. I would've used them again but I would have like to have been asked.
Description of Work: Tru Green Corp. kept the weeds down on my lawn for me. They did about 5 or 6 applications, some spider treatments and tree and shrub service.

The 1st application was without incident. On the 2nd application, it appeared that the Technician did not spray the entire yard. When the Technician returned to re-spray the yard to kill the weeds, he actually killed brand new sod. The owner tried to convince us that our lawn had a disease but agreed to pay most of the cost for a pallet of sod (the cost of the treatment) that we purchased to replace the dead areas in the lawn, but did not reimburse for the time to lay the sod or the frustration of having to start over again with an unattractive lawn. Despite our displeasure with the fact that the Technician had killed the lawn, we decided to give Tru Green one more chance. It was time for a Lime treatment which we agreed to have done. When we arrived home, there was plenty of evidence that the lime treatment had been done because it was allover the place, including in one of the Sago Palm tree, the hedges, and the side walk. It rained within a few days of the lime treatment and we had hoped the rain would wash the white stuff off the tree and hedges, but it didn't. Both my husband and I attempted to remove it with the water hose, but no luck. When I informed the owner that it appeared the lime treatment had damaged the palm tree and hedges, he stated he would come and take a look. Once he looked at the plants, he called me to say the plants were diseased and that he could treat them, which my husband allowed him to do. After the last treatment, which was just a few days ago, we have decided to no longer use TRU Green because I believe they actually did more harm than good. Our lawn will still need some repairs in the spring and we still have plenty of weeds.
Description of Work: We had very high hopes for this business. We brought a new house on a hill a few years ago, but the yard needed work. We decided to use TRU Green (a professional service) to get rid of the weeds. According to the commercials, their brand is supposed to be based on a specific science. We used the service for about a year and we are not at all happy with the results. \\\

I don’t have them do the front yard because we have a very large yard. Our sod was dying and it was just full of weeds. I had to mow twice this week. It is really doing very well. They have done an excellent job. They started right away when I signed up with them initially.
Description of Work: I have an annual contract with Tru Green Corp and they come out every six weeks. They weed the yard.

I have always had excellent service. If the weather changes a call is placed to me with a new treatment date. No recordings only real people on the other end of the call.
Description of Work: The company takes care of all fertilization and treatments my yard needs. I'm called and told what day my service will be done. Instructions on when and how much to water. My prepaid statement is left on my front door with signage placed in the yard.

Description of Work: I am not happy with the way this company operates. First of all, I saw no noticeable differences in the appearance of my yard after the 4 different visits they had. My main concern is related to scheduling and how they responded to my concerns, which I thought was lacking for a company of this size. On two separate occassions, I got calls from their automated service informing me the specialist was coming to my house the next day. When I called the company to reschedule, twice I was told that there was no visit scheduled in the system until the next month. When I asked how we could fix this issue so that Trudy (the automated system) did not call me unneccessarily, the people I spoke to had no idea how to stop it. When I asked if instead they could have the technician contact me before they came out, the response I got was that they could call me super early in the morning, when the technician came in at 5 am. It seemed to me that this company made zero attempt to accomodate my wishes. If people are paying this much money for lawn care service, then you ought to ensure to bend over backwards to at least give the impression that you are trying to satisfty them.

Decided to give them a try after a door to door sales pitch. For several months, 4 visits, the areas they treated were free of weeds but they did not always treat each area as they paid to. My back yard has a fence that is locked. I would come home and find they were there that day and the ticket said the back yard was treated. It was not. Had to call and tell them and they came back. I cannot do business with a dishonest representative. I canceled the service and will never use them again.

UPDATE: a couple of months ago - sorry for the delay, but I got tired of dealing with TruGreen 1 week after yet another free application, TruGreen wanted to come out again - this time with charging for services. When I informed them, that we just had received an application the week prior, I was informed that we still needed this application after only 1 week, because the free application was only a "weak solution" that would be rather ineffective. So, I am finally DONE! No more TruGreen. However, it was rather challenging to get rid of this company. For several months they kept on calling me....... UPDATE 4/3/2013 Well, I have to give TruGreen credit for being persistent in trying to win their customers back. After my last update, the general manager left a voice mail for us and sent an e-mail. The technician left his business card and a note at our door. Having been busy and rather frustrated with the service so far, I had ignored these attempts to win us back as customers. Until today. The technician, a very nice individual, came to our door, offered another free application and promised me that he would be the only one I had to deal with. He assured me that he personally would take care of any issues that may come up. As the weed in our yard started to grow again, and I really do not have the time to shop around - and I just like the technician because he is very professional and friendly - I decided to give TruGreen a third chance. Let's see how it goes. I will update this review when our next weed control application has been done in about six weeks. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we will not regret giving TruGreen yet another chance..... UPDATE 3/6/2013 Yesterday we received the automated call announcing weed control service for today (2nd free treatment to win us back as a customer) - the notification process has worked so far, BUT.... Luckily I was home this time when the technician came to the house. I informed him that the gate to the back yard was unlocked- and he responded that his records showed to only treat the front! I could not believe it. We cancelled TruGreen last year, because they insisted that we only signed up for treatment of the front lawn - which was incorrect (see initial review). I cannot believe that after all this trouble and the assurance that the problem had been fixed, we are encountering the exact same issue again. I have to give credit to the technician who was willing to treat our backyard (where the weed is growing more like it got fertilized rather than treated with weed control when TruGreen came out about 6 weeks ago) despite the fact that his records showed only treatment of the front lawn. The technical agreed with my assessment that no weed control had been applied to the back yard when TruGreen came out last time. He offered a free follow up service in three weeks. The technician was great! My final verdict is: The technicians are very professional and nice. But TruGreen has a deeper issues. For some reason this company cannot get their act together and straighten out their record management mess. TruGreen, although the local branch really tried to win us back as customers, is just not worth the hassle. Having weeds taking over your lawn is better than having to deal with the same issues over and over again....and if you do not like weeds, I recommend contacting another lawn service company. Thant's what I will be doing, because I have had enough of TruMess. Personally, I feel for the TruGreen employees who suffer from the disorganization this company displays! UPDATE 01/25/2013 So far, I am very happy and impressed with the service provided after TruGreen had learned about my initial review. The general manager of the local Montgomery branch came out today with two of his service managers. He called me before they came over, they were on time and very professional and friendly. They displayed a genuine desire to win me back not only as a customer, but as a satisfied customer. So, if the two (free) weed control application go without any service problems (we receive a call in advance so we can unlock the gate and put the kid's toys away, and the front and back gets treated) we are back in business! To TruGree Corporate Office: Thank you for paying attention to reviews on Angie's List. This displays genuine concern for your customers. Your general manager at the Montgomery store is excellent! His professionalism and efforts to "make it right" convinced me to give your company a second chance, despite the fact that initially I had not intentions to do so. UPDATE 01/24/2013 I was surprised to receive a call from the general manager of the local TruGreen office this morning. He told me that the corporate office had notified him of the issues I had reported in my Angie's list review. He was very professional, friendly, and concerned about the issues we had experienced. I was impressed that he fully acknowledged the problems and offered solutions. He offered me 2 free weed control applications and an "action-plan" to address the issues. He will personally come out tomorrow to discuss details. I am impressed, that TruGreen actually cares and takes action. Depending on the outcome tomorrow and possible future services, I may revise my overall rating. Maybe we just had bad luck......we shall see. As of now I am willing to give TruGreen a second chance..... Original review: The lawn technicians were always very nice and the weed and bugs were under control - and that ends the positive feedback. We had a really hard time with customer service (friendly but incompetent). For example, we asked to be notified before the technician comes out to treat our lawn, because the gate to our back yard is locked. Customer service had agreed to give us a courtesy call a couple of days in advance before a technician was to come out to the house. We were notified only once during the entire year we had TrueGreen service! If we were not at home, the back yard did not get treated. When complaining and informing customer service about the fact that the back yard regularly did not get treated, all the sudden we were told that we had only signed up for treatment of the front lawn. This was incorrect, as the square footage we were quoted a price for and paid for equaled the square footage of the lawn in the front AND back , and we specifically had pointed out that we needed the back yard bug free because this is where our toddler plays. We had received service for the back yard (as signed up and paid for) before when we were at home to open the gate. All this did not face the customer service representative who actually suggested that we needed to pay for the "additional" areas in the back that were treated every now and then. No explaining and reasoning faced her. All she offered was that we could sign up for additional services to get the back yard treated, too. (We already had signed up and paid for service of the ENTIRE lawn!). We finally gave up and just cancelled the service altogether.

I called this company to get an estimate about services for my law. I had been turned off by Tru Green's door-to-door solicitation, but I wanted to give them a chance and find out more as I was new to having my lawn serviced. Instead of providing ANY information as I requested, they started grilling me and informed me (with an attitude) that any company that offered the lowest price would not be providing the best service. They asked me if I wanted a good price or good service. I said, both, of course. Who wouldn't? But I wasn't looking for the cheapest service but rather trying to get idea of what I needed to budget. I could never get to that point. They were not willing to provide any information without first giving a 15-minute talk about why their company was so much better than anyone else. I simply wanted an estimate, not a 15-minute sales pitch with attitude. I had already looked at their web site and read reviews. I just needed concrete information from them, which they refused to provide. I'd called Southern Lawns, and they were very responsive. Unfortunately they have an agreement where they don't serve in Tru Green's service area, so they couldn't service my lawn. I would never use Tru Green. I was willing to give them a chance in spite of bad experiences of friends and their repeated door-to-door solicitations. But simply calling this company for basic information was literally the least professional and least responsive experience I have EVER had with a company. That tells me all I need to know about Tru Green. Also, I initially asked if they would come out and meet with me about my lawn and give me an estimate. They informed me they do not come out to give estimates. They said they look at your yard via satellite (which they said they could do right then) and give an estimate. Then they refused to give an estimate without my first listening to their 15-minute sales pitch. So they won't take time to come meet with you, but they insist on taking your time to give you a sales pitch before providing any information at all. No thanks.

I dumped TruGreen years ago but then they told me that they had a whole new crew and they were really much better; so tried them again. Now, I have been back with them for 2 full years. If I see anything in my yard that I am not happy with, I call them and they send a technician back to take care of it for me. I think they come out 6 times a year; I happen to pre-pay for all my services because you save 10 percent. This year, they’re doing it since this area is very much into a drought; so they are doing an additional treatment, because of the situation the roots of our grass are not as deep as they would be ordinarily. They are coming out to treat that and take care of the lawn over the winter. They call you and tell you what it’s going to cost and I tell them that I want to pre-pay it so I can save my 10 percent. I have a dog and therefore I lock the gate; so they always call and let me know what day they are coming. If, for some reason, that day doesn’t work for me, I just tell them and they change it. They are real cooperative that way. As long as somebody makes something right, I can live with that, because we all make mistakes.

The experience was fine. The guy who came out was a nice young man. They always make sure they know that they have to do our yard and the yard next to us because we own that one too. They are nice, but I am just not satisfied with the results. They are the most well known. I didn't know of any other company when we first started with them and until now. I haven't compared the prices. They never let us know when they are coming, they just come. If I find something better and more reasonable then I might switch.

, at this point i figured they would walk away and that would be that,, but oh no,, he asked a turf provider to come measure the back lawn and give an estimate of turf needed and labor to install, ,the manager came back out with someone else and took another measurement of the lawn and said i would be contacted by the turf provider and should be receiving approximately 4 pallets of turf,, and also stated the original person was to high, and asked if i would be able to install the grass. i said yes, little did i know you have to prep the ground by removing all the old grass and weeds first, i had to buy a roto tiller, $300.00, to till the ground, something that is a must when installing turf. then the person shows up with a huge truck, figured it would be. and unloads 6 pallets of turf, i only needed 1 and a half, explained to the manager about landscape, but he insisted on fence to fence turf measurements for sod.1 week later and several hours of labor i finished installing the sod and then had to dispose of the remained that went moldy and bad due to dry and hot conditions. about a month later i get a call from tru green telling me a technician had come by and noticed my yard was hard packed,, i told him no technician had been to my property and i at that time told them since they were not practicing good buisness practices and giving false reports to clients, i no longer needed their service and did not want to be contacted again. i get a call from the manager a week later and he said i got you sod,, and want to do the last 2 treatments for the year, i said i would let them know when i wanted them to come back. not when they wanted to.. the sod will not even be fully engaged with the ground for about 1 full year after application. sheesh, i think they are being a bit pushy , but on the other hand, i will get the photos from the E.P.A. and statements from my neighbors about the condition of my lawn before tru green and then after tru green and take them to court if they insist on pushing the issue.. the E.P.A. has photos of the damage and soil samples taken from the affected
Description of Work: lawn fertilization and weed control. i asked the company about starting fertilizer service to my lawn in june i believe, originally i was told that they were viewing satellite photos of my residence and had pictures recent as 2 weeks old, come to find out that they use old satellite photos in the neighborhood of 2 plus years old, at this time i was told they could schedule a fertilizer treatment for a upcomming day, i told the person NOT BEFORE NOON! as i have a dog and they would not be able to get in the back yard to treat, until i arrived home, , the technician came at a little after 9 a.m. and treated the front lawn, paperwork stated he had treated the whole lawn, which i knew was not correct , IE.:THE DOG. i called the company immediately upon arriving home and finding the note, a little after 11:00 a.m. they informed me that the technician would be coming back out around 12 to finish the job, . upon arrival the technician got the fertilizer out of his truck, and we proceeded to the back yard, where he fertilized the lawn , never did do the side yard,, he appologized for showing up earlier that he was supposed to and stated that was the assigned route, and designated time on his work order, i said ok,, he then went to get liquid weed killer out of his truck and went to the hose faucet to mix the chemical stating it was a chemical banned by the epa,,LATER FINDING OUT its not banned, , he mixed the liquid and went to the back yard and sprayed the weeds i thought, , he then went back to his truck and left , a few days later i went into the back yard and my lawn was turning brown, what there was of it anyway, and the weeds were flourishing, i contacted the epa to see if what the technician had told me was true, they did research and said that it was not yet banned and that existing supplies were still useable, they came out took soil samples and a statement of what i had been told, along with the damage to the lawn. they asked me if i wanted anything from tru green, i said just for them to stay off my property and i would fix the damage, i was then subsequently contacted by the local manager i guess and he insisted that they could correct the problem and damage if allowed to do so, i agreed to let him come take a look, ,

My lawn looks the best its ever looked due to the job TruGreen has done putting down fertilizer and weed controls. They also give great information on the way one should water and mow the lawn to help with color and pest. I no longer mow as much as I used to because now I only have turf and not weeds.
Description of Work: TruGreen left some information on my door about how they could make my lawn look better by applying chemicals to control weeds and fertilizing, they called a day later and I said I'd try it and see how it works. It took about 6 months to really start seeing the difference they made and what a difference it is!

Description of Work: I moved into my new home Feb of 2008 TruGreen shortly knocked on my door. They began treating my lawn the same week. They have taught me a lot about how to help my lawn, and within 6 months had it looking pretty close to a golf course. For $550 a year I can't beat it. Very good people from the sales, office, and treater. Their work and customer service is not like most places you see nowadays. "They care." Don't get me wrong you have to do some work too such as water and mow.

I started the service in February. For several months, I have followed their instructions to the letter. At the first of the spring the yard did look pretty good. However, since late May, the weed situation started to become noticeable. Now, my yard is full of weeds, and it seems that it is getting worse. They never let me know when they are coming, and are blaming the weeds on the fact that the grass is too high or too short when they come. When they come to treat the yard, they leave these notes saying, "Noticed some nut grass" or "Water your yard more/less" or "Cut your lawn shorter/higher". They don't seemed interested in doing anything about my lawn's weed situation, and I have been considering canceling the service. Then, today someone came by to try to sell me some extra services like aeration and extra insect control treatments. This service doesn't do what they promised. The technicians show up whenever they feel like it. Once they showed up at 6:30AM and started spraying right outside our window. I thought it was a prowler. Save yourself some money and hassle. Avoid this ripoff at all costs. For $700 a year, get yourself a spreader, some fertilizer, and a few other goodies at Lowe's or Home Depot. These people only want to sell you a bunch of services you don't need. They do not care if your lawn has weeds. I am ashamed that I feel for this scam. I'm going to let them finish the season because I don't think I can even get a partial refund at this point.
Description of Work: I prepaid for a year's worth of their Lawn Care program. They come every 4-6 weeks at any time they want with no warning whatsoever.
