We had an unexpected terrible experience. The electrician sent out to us didn't do a good job at looking for the problem; mostly listened to me and walked around talking about having to redo the wiring but would probably need to bring someone back with him to check. He didn't check the outlets we were having issues with, nor did he go up into the ceiling to check wiring. Before he rushed out the door, after asking for next steps, he said he could provide a quote and get back to us, probably having to work on it on a Saturday but would check and get back to me. Three days later and we've heard nothing. I called to follow up and Misty answered the phone and before I could get my name out good very curtly asked three times, "how can I help you". I am not sure if this is normal, but the combination of these incidents was not pleasant, professional, or assuring. I would not recommend this company for any electrical work.
Description of Work: We had 7 outlets that abruptly and completely stopped working (had no power to them) and asked for someone to come take a look.

Description of Work: I have always considered myself rather handy in all my years of DIYs, so after several months of researching the different projects involved, I felt confident that this would not be a complicated job, upon deciding to remodel my master bathroom. |I then went on Angie's List, to check the references for my area. (I had a regular plumber and electrician that I always used but as my husband wasn't very eager to provide the expenses for such an endeavor, I thought it expeditious to explore my best options.) |I got two estimates on the plumbing and wiring that would be needed in order to exchange out the whirlpool tubs, to add an extra GFCI line for the heater on the new tub, and to run a separate electrical line from the fuse box, into my bathroom wall, in order to provide electricity for the flooring heat mat I planned to install. |While I was getting the estimates on the electrical and plumbing, I added a couple of other little things that I had been wanting to do... running another GFCI line outside and installing a light in a bedroom. |I got an estimate from the guys I normally use, and from Jerry Ard's Plumbing and Electric. They both were pretty much comparable on the tub exchange but Ard's was cheaper on everything else, plus they had wonderful reviews online from Angie's list, with not one negative thing listed! Their representative who contacted me also told me they could work me in whenever they were needed, that there would be no longtime out scheduling. |The particular guy that I was dealing with, Nathan, even stated that they worked on weekends, sometimes the whole weekend, in order to keep up with their customers' demands. So I decided that anyone who went to those lengths surely must be competent and have the utmost care for their customers, so I decided to use them for the plumbing and electrical part of the remodel. |I had been having misgivings about the removal of my old whirlpool tub and the installation of the new tub, as I was concerned about the measurements, etc. We emailed and played phone tag back and forth several times about this matter. Nathan, the one assigned to do the work, assured me there was no problem, that he could handle it, so not to worry... that they handled these kinds of things every day! | |Of course, I did worry and evidently for good reason as this is what happened... | | THE OLD TUB |The first day, Nathan, the same guy I had been dealing with via email and phone calls, came on the appointed day, tore out three pieces of the cultured marble surround around my whirlpool tub, and told me he could not continue until I had my valves in hand. |I was flabbergasted; I had no idea the job could not go forth without the valves being present, nor do I now believe that! He could very well have continued to remove the present valves and copper lines, etc. and cut the old tub out, in my lowly opinion. And in all the conversations and emails, he had not once mentioned the need for the valves to be onhand when he began work. | |I told him they were ordered but had not yet arrived. I tried to explain to him that I was not aware that one needed the faucets, etc. in order to begin tearing out a bath for a remodel, and that he should have surely made that plain to me from the beginning. He ignored these comments, but was very curt and adamant that I must have them, and so he left. |After he left, I went in there to examine what he had done, and he had literally torn out the three pieces of tub surround of the cultured marble, which had been glued to the sheetrock, which had torn large strips off the wall, leaving some actual chunks removed from the wall! |As I already stated, we had talked several times, emailed back and forth, to set up all the plans, etc. for doing the remodel, and not once had valves/faucets, etc. been mentioned! And, during the conversations, I had encouraged Nathan to go ahead and read the manual on my new tub so he would be familiar with it and its workings. |When the valves, etc. arrived, I called them and set up another time for him to return. This time he brought a helper. They began work and I cautioned them that the company where I had ordered my new tub had told me that the wooden blocks on the bottom of the tub, installed for shipping stability, could be removed in order for the tub to be able to be taken through my small bathroom door. He didn't comment one way or another at that time, but seemed to simply ignore what I had said. | I asked him if he'd had time to read the manual on the tub, as I had already done so online, and that it very plainly stated that if their installation directions weren't followed, my warranty would be void. He asked what kind of specific directions I was worried about, so I explained that they indicated online that the bottom of the tub must be seated correctly for the stability of the very bottom. See the inset below, copied and pasted, verbatim, from the installation booklet: | | |At this time, I also cautioned him about the walls, and his destruction that had taken place from just removing the three small pieces of cultured marble, that I had not intended to have the tile guy to go any further up the wall than where the cultured marble had been, and that he had now caused me to have to readdress my plans for the tile work. When I stated this to him, he replied, 'Listen, I've been doing this kind of work since I was fifteen years old, so I know what I'm doing, and am quite familiar with how to install a tub, okay?' He smiled as he said it but his intonations were quite obvious! Well, that left me with no option for further comment, so I just left the room. | |I had opened my garage door, as it was the entrance closest to the work area, and had a rug put down in the garage at the entrance to the actual house, in order to help to keep down the bringing in of debris, etc. They entered and exited through the back door into the garage and left that door open at all times. This was in warm weather in south Alabama, and the flies were coming in constantly, so I was continually going and closing the door each and every time I saw it open. I didn't say anything to them about leaving it open as, since I felt we had already had words, so to speak, that it would be best to just stay out of the way. They never once offered to close it themselves, no matter how many times I went to close it myself! |They did not bring in one thing to help in keeping their work area contained and tramped through my bedroom, through the rear foyer, and out the back door. I had area rugs down in both areas which they were tracking across, but they just kept it up, as if the carpeted rugs weren't even there, so I got some towels and put them down as best as I could, which didn't stay in place for very long. |They went right to work, carefully removing the old tub and took it and all the fittings, the old copper lines, etc. outside, being very careful at the doorways, so I now felt that they were going to work out, seeing how careful they had now been with the old tub. | Note where the 3 slabs had been removed from the back and sides of the old tub... |They didn't ask what to do with it, but as soon as they got it out, they said they were going to lunch. While they were gone, I went outside to see where they had set my old tub, and lo and behold, it was gone! I knew right then that the old tub had been the reason for the early lunch; that it had gone to one of their homes, as there was nothing wrong with it, but I had decided that it would be prudent that while we were doing the remodel that I should get a newer tub model for resale value, should that ever occur! |When they returned, I didn't mention the old tub, as I didn't want to alienate them any further... However, I had told them upon beginning the old tub removal that I wanted the complete front panel preserved as it was one of a kind, and handmade, but they had pried the doors open with a screwdriver in several places, not knowing how they opened, and had popped the paint off the doors in these same places, as well as making indentations on the doors, and down into the wood, too! |As they worked, I would stick my head around the corner from time to time, from the kitchen area where I was doing my chores, and when I saw them with a large wheel barrow, wrestling with it to get it through that small bathroom door, I went in there and it was as if they thought that if they hit my bedroom wall and the door framing enough times with that humongous wheelbarrow that it might grow smaller and squeeze through. I said to them that anyone could tell that a wheelbarrow that large was never going to go through that doorway, no matter what. Nathan said something to the effect that he didn't know how he was to mix concrete if he couldn't get the wheelbarrow into the room. I told him that I had a large washtub and that I would be glad to get it for him; that it didn't matter if he used it to mix the concrete in... that if it ruined it, I could get another. He replied something like, 'Just forget it; I'll just mix it up on the floor.' I asked would that not make a terrific mess, and he didn't reply. He went outside and brought in 2 large bags of concrete mix and threw them down in the bathroom floor, bursting one bag open right then and there! I felt as if I had hired the three stooges to do the job, even though there were just the two of them. I left out so disgusted I didn't know what to do! | | The burst open bag of concrete... | |My water had been turned off, so I offered to go next door and get some water for the concrete mix. He said they would make provisions to get water without my help. The next time I looked, muddy water was everywhere on the floor of the bathroom. I could not even think how to address this so I just went away! | |(Later, when the helper was gone, and upon finding one of my decorative towels had been used to wipe up the muddy concrete floor, a towel of a set that had previously been hanging in the bathroom, and was now laying out in the garage, with concrete dried in it, Nathan told me that the helper had done that! That was the only comment about my towel! Next, he called me and had the audacity to ask me if I had picked up the fuse plug that went in the fuse box, as they had been running the electrical lines. I told him I had not seen any such, nor would I have bothered it, and he said that he guessed then that Don must have picked it up, or misplaced it... Don, being the helper.) |When the helper returned and next I checked on what was going on, they were struggling with the whirlpool tub, attempting to wrestle it through the small doorway, with those shipping blocks still protruding from the bottom! Once again, I told them that the manufacturer said it would be imperative to remove them on account of the size of my small doorway. (I had talked to the manufacturer on several occasions about all of my concerns about the measurements.) Nathan said that they could not be taken off as they were supporting other parts to the tub. I told him that the tub had cost me dearly and that I didn't want it scratched as it surely was going to be, forcing it through that small area, and that if I had known that he was definitely going to refuse to take the blocks off, I would gladly have removed the door facing myself, before they returned to bring the new tub in. He assured me that I was worrying for nothing and that they knew what they were doing! |When they finally got the tub through the doorway and were attempting to install it in the area where it was to go, it was such a close fit (as he and I had already much discussed before the job began, when he was telling me on the phone that it would be no problem, and that they had these kinds of situations often...) that they were more or less trapped with the helper standing over in the area, with no way to get out, and one end of the tub he was holding way up in the air, over his head, and so with all that weight, he could not manage to pull himself out and hold the tub at the same time! |Wouldn't one think that they had already measured and thought this through, making preparations beforehand as to how they were going to manage sliding it in so that these kinds of contortions would not have taken place in the first place??? |Again, I had to leave the room; honestly, I felt as if I were in the middle of a nightmare! I was shaking all over, and sweating, thinking how I ever got myself into this mess! |When they finally got the tub down, Nathan called me to return to the bathroom. I did, and he said that the tub was setting so high now that they were going to have to brace it up because it was so much taller. (They had put too much concrete underneath the tub so that it now set up so much higher. Of course, they didn't say that, but an imbecile could have reached the same deduction!) At this point, what could I say other than for them to go ahead and brace it? |Can you imagine how hard it is going to be for an older person to get in and out of that tub with it being so much taller? From the top of the white area above the doors upwards is all extra height, including the wood and the lip of the tub... just over four/4 inches! | | | |And you might note the left end wall that was cut out so they could actually allow lowering that tub from where they had been previously holding it up in the air on one end. The actual wall studs are cut away, as well! Also, notice the difference from front side to back side as to how the tub is setting inside the wall on the front, where they cut out the 2x4's, but even to the wall on the back side, (in the first picture above) making the tub set at a slant... as well as how much higher it was now setting!!! From my pictures you can tell that it is not installed to what anyone could possibly call professionally, nor is it installed straight and correctly! | |The company had sent everything that would be needed to install the new tub, including the chrome stopper (drain) to go in the bottom, etc. Of course, I had to pay extra for these but then when Nathan began to install the valves, he said that he was leaving to go and purchase the special parts he would need for the drain. I told him I had them, handed them to him, and he said he would go and get his own from the supply house. I asked why and he said theirs did not fit, so he left and stayed gone about 1 and ½ hours, returning as if he'd just left. (His helper was not here then...) When he was through I saw that the drain he had installed looked exactly like the one I had already ordered, and when questioned about it, he said, well, the plastic drain line wasn't the right size. I asked then why he had gotten a new chrome drain, too, when mine would have done and he just replied that I could return mine to the company and get my money back. I told him by the time I did all that and paid postage on the return that I would be gained very little and that I saw no reason why the exchange had taken place in the first place. He commented no further on this matter. | |The above smaller pictures are the front left edge of tub; the bottom picture is the right front edge of the tub. Is it not plain that the whole tub could and should have been pushed to the right so that the left wall and 2x4's would not have been mangled and then the tub would have set straight? | |Upon my complaints, the plumbers assured me that it was not their work that was the problem, but that my wall was crooked. We had a heated discussion as I pointed out that the other tub was not in crooked and it was using the same wall, but they told me there was nothing more they could do! |At this point, when I told Nathan that I wanted him to call the owner and have him come out and look at it, lo and behold, he said that his helper was the owner. Up until that time, I had been led to believe that the other guy was just a helper, and, as he had kept very quiet for the whole time, I fully believed that he was! And he was the same little guy that had been holding up the tub's end up in the air when the tub could not be lowered because it wouldn't fit!!! |Well, when the game was up, as they say, he, the owner, began telling me that I was just being picky. I asked him if his wife would allow such in her house to be done that way, especially when I had gone to all the expense that I had to purchase that new tub. He said his wife wouldn't have been in there, talking or complaining in the first place! Well! |He then went on to tell me how difficult I had been and that he had never had to confront anyone about his work before. I said that maybe most of his customers didn't expect as good a job as I did, especially considering what it was costing me, and he then said he had never been more mad in his whole life than this day, that I had made him so mad by questioning him that he had a blinding headache and that he had better leave before he said something he shouldn't. |He gave me a bill, and I wrote him out a check, and then, after I'd paid him I questioned the bill because it was $115 more than the agreed amount, because Nathan had charged me $85.00 for the day he came and stripped off the 3 small surrounding panels of the tub and left because 'I did not yet have my valves.' Then he had charged me $30.00 more for the drain he purchased. I told him I did not think that fair. He said that was fine with him, and that the amount I was disputing would be deducted the following Tuesday when Nathan came back to install the GFCI in the backyard. I waited until the following Tuesday had come and gone, and then when the whole week had come and gone, and since Nathan still had not come back, I called Don, who I now knew was the owner, or so they said, and he told me that since Nathan had not come back, and did not intend to come back, that he had thought much about how he had spoken to me, but that he was just upset that day. I told him that was fine, that I had no hard feelings either but that I did expect to be treated fairly and for him to pay me what I felt he owed me. He assured me that he would get me a check in the mail that very day. Well, need I say that the check did not come, and so after waiting a couple of weeks, I called him again. Once more, he said he had just been so busy that he had not gotten around to it, but that he'd make sure he sat down that very day and send me a check. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt and so I looked once again for the check. Well, you guessed it; no check arrived. I called him once more, and he said that he just forgot and that he would personally come by my house and put a check in my mail box. I knew then what kind of person he was and so I decided that was that. I had been cheated out of the refund due me from being overcharged! |A couple of weeks later, one night my husband and I were eating out and I saw him there so I went up to him and spoke, thinking that he'd be so embarrassed that he'd pay me the money. He acted like we were old friends and spoke cordially to me and went on about his business of his dinner! |I HAVE YET TO GET MY MONEY REFUNDED TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |I did not offer this review until requested many times by Angie's List, and they can certainly verify this. I am not a vindictive person, but I can be honest to a fault! |And, by the way, this is the way they left the line they ran in my bathroom.... | And this is Don, the helper, owner, squatting here... | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |I have always considered myself rather handy in all my years of DIYs, so after several months of researching the different projects involved, I felt confident that this would not be a complicated job, upon deciding to remodel my master bathroom. |I then went on Angie's List, to check the references for my area. Description of Work: We had been working on what we thought was a water heater problem for about 5 days. Called Jerry Ard plumbing, because we had replaced everything we could on the water heater which was only about 7 years old. They were very prompt, and were able to come to my home that same day. The technician was very polite, and listened as I explained what we had done and tried to troubleshoot. Within about 10 minutes, he said we needed a new water heater, and would work up a price. After I got the estimate, I called my husband and to my surprise he was standing in the driveway talking to the technician. As I walked out I saw he was writing a check, which turned out to be simply for a service call ($85.00), and was told we should have hot water very shortly. They had adjusted the thermostats, or something to that effect. Well, no hot water. A friend who was an electrician came and discovered that we had a leaking pipe under the foundation all along. The water leak was extensive, but had NOTHING to do with the now refurbished water heater.

After phone call they were able to come out the next day. The work was completed in about two hours. Also had the water supply line and the toilet interior components changed. The next morning I notice water around the back of the toilet. Called the contractor and told them about the problem and they sent out an employee to fix a broken jam nut on the bottom of the toilet.

Description of Work: Installed a latrine I had ordered online. If I had to do over again I would not order online. The contractor was great but I could have saved a ton of money with all in one parts/labor through Ard.

When I called this morning was told someone would be here around lunchtime. I received a call around 12:15 saying Don was about 10 minutes away. He arrived about 12:30 repaired the commode and was leaving by 1PM. He had all of the supplies with him and replaced various parts, and the commode is running like new

Very pleased with this service. We called Jerry Monday am to replace our garbage disposal and he came to our house Monday afternoon at a time that was convenient for us! He brought a new garbage disposal which saved us from having to go shopping for one. He was prompt, professional, courteous, and cleaned up when he was done. He even matched a lower estimate we had gotten from Lowe's for the installation cost. We will definitely use Jerry for all of our future plumbing needs.

They came out on a Saturday (much to our suprise) and did not charge extra. We had company coming over for dinner and could not use the sink or garbage disposal. The went to pick up the new disposal and had it replaced in no time. VERY professional and courteous. Our first "Angie's List" experience and it went great! Thank you!

The gasket had detached from the pipe, and caused a water leak. I had put water-proof putty around it to stop the flow, but didn't know if I had caused the relief valve to become stuck. So I needed a plumber.. Checked Angie's list for local plumbers, because of good reviews for Ard. I called them, and got an actual person who told me techs were out, but one would call me after lunch. Received that call around 5pm from Chris, the tech, who made an appointment for 9am the next morning. Chris called around 9 to say he was running late, but was on his way. I thought he might tell me the heater, which is about 30 years old would need to be replaced, but he only had to replace the gasket and pressure valve. It seems the water heater was a quality one (came with the house) that could last 50 years (thank goodness!!). This was a pleasant experiernce, having a business responding so quickly to make an appointment, and actually keeping it. We have a problem in this area getting that kind of service.

We discovered that our hot wter heater had stopped working. We called Jerry Ard plumbing late in the lafternoon, after 5:30 p.m, thinking we would leave a message; I was immedately connected with a and quot;service tech, and quot; Jimmy Ard. Hoping we could schedule him for the next morning, we were pleasantly surprised when he said that he had just driven into his driveway at home, but would come after he had a few minutes with him family. Within an hour he was here and at work; an hour and half later he had replaced the heating unit in the water heater and completed his job. He restored all of items he had to move in the laundry room in order to get to the unit. He was kind, courteous, and we expected an exorbitant fee for work in dark of night. Not so. He only charged for parts and labor, with no additonal and quot;service feeand quot; as so many other service businesses do. We will definitely call Ard again!

We woke up to having no water on a Friday morning. My husband calls Jerry Ard Plumbing and Electric and within an hour a plumber whose name was Donald Ard came dug and located the broken water line which was caused by a tree root. He repaired the line and cut the water back on and the problem was fixed. Mr. Ard was very professional, he stayed on the job leaving only one time to get a part and was only gone a brief time. We were very pleased with the work he done and he worked! He didn't stand around and talk on his cell phone and have to leave numerous times to get parts. We had a similar problem about six months ago and it took that plumber (was not Jerry Ard Plumbing Co.) two days to fix the problem, the plumber was always leaving to run pick up a part and would be gone hrs. We will call Jerry Ard Plumbing Co. for any plumbing problems we have in the future and recommend this Company to anyone needing a plumber.
