This was our second venture with A Cut Above Carpentry, and like the first, it was flawless. We had linoleum in a full bathroom and an adjoining lavatory area. We had very old carpet in an adjoining bedroom, with a large walk-in closet. All old flooring was removed and replaced with a wood grained, ceramic tile. It all looks great - we couldn't be happier. As with the first job, Paul and his team showed up when they said they would, and the work was finished on time, and the project was under budget. Would we use the again? ABSOLUTELY!

Paul Bryan and his team arrived exactly when they said they would, performed the work in a very professional manner, cleaned up what little mess they made, and left. We're thrilled with the work they did. Would we hire them again? We already have, for another job that starts next month. Fantastic company!

Paul was able to schedule me in very quickly and his crew (2 people) arrived exactly when promised. They used drop cloths under each window they re-crafted, installing insulation, creating new frames, caulking as appropriate, painting the areas of drywall that had to be repaired, and even rehanging the mini-blinds, which was not initially discussed. While the drywall repair and painting were not perfect, overall, for the price, this job was worth it. He finished in less than a full day and adjusted his pricing accordingly. His honesty, for me, is one of his selling points. We highly recommend Paul and will use him as needed in the future. He is a true craftsman.
Description of Work: We had a contractor replace the vinyl siding and 6 windows in our home. While his work was acceptable, he left unfinished openings within the house in the areas where the windows were replaced (the company that made the original windows is out of business and no one makes windows which will exactly fit the previous openings.) I didn't trust the siding guy to do the finish work inside so I hired Paul Bryan with A Cut Above Carpentry to do the work for us.

Paul and his crew professionally installed the metal roof over a shingled roof on our two car detached garage. They arrived when they said they would and finished inside of one day. All debris was cleaned up and hauled off and a rolling magnet was used across the yard area several times to pick up any nails, screws or other metal scrap. We have been very pleased with the work that this contractor does and would not hesitate to contact him regarding any work we may need done in the future.

Paul did a wonderful job. He was punctual and professional. He had the work done in a matter of a few days, even worked while it rained. He is very detailed oriented and his crew are all experienced. I asked him to leave some unfinished bc we were going to complete the work, ie flooring and painting. However, now I wish I had him complete it -- I am still working on it. I highly recommend him- his prices are fair and reasonable.

I am extremely impressed with the service I received from A Cut above Carpentry starting with the request for a written estimate right through to the final installation of my custom French door (which I'd like to add) turned out to be extremely challenging on this 1950?s built home. Even though the job turned out to be much more complex than originally estimated and materials were provided for which I had originally agreed to provide, Mr. Bryan would not deviate from the price he had given me. Of notable importance is that my husband was away on business during this process so of course I was somewhat anxious of my husband approval upon his return for which of course he was more than pleased with. I felt very comfortable with Mr. Bryan and his crew and was continually apprised of the details. If for no other reason than integrity alone I would most certainly use A Cut about Carpentry again.
Was very detailed in the process. Communicated clearly each step of the way sending me pictures because I wasn't able to be there because of work. Knocked down two walls to open up my kitchen and dining room to the living space. Installed new drywall, painted and made a bar between the kitchen and dining area. Installed new flooring through the dining and living area. Looks like a brand new house. The crew was polite and cleaned up after themselves was in and out quickly. Will definitely use this company again!!!!!

We hired Paul and his company to remodel our entire home. The process too from December '14 till March '15. This remodel included a total gut of the house down to the studs and built back up. We were not living in the area while this work was being done. For a long time we were not receiving any updates via pictures about how the work was going. We really had to beg him to send them. Finally he sent us some, and things looked good, but when I asked for more of specific places in the home he failed to send them. We actually ended up having a friend go over to check on the work and she found a couple things that weren't correct but seemed like minor fixes. This was not the case. Paul had also asked us to provide the final payment before work was complete, but we refused. We returned to the property on 04/21/15 to find that there were MAJOR issues with the work that was done. Base boards were missing, the paint job was terrible to the point you can see the brush marks, the kitchen floor is NOT complete, our sun room demo work not complete either. Behind out vanity there were no boards installed nor did he paint down so you can see just exposed wall. I have a feeling that this project was bigger than he anticipated and taking longer and he needed to get out of our job and on the next one and was probably frustrated by that. Paul and told us that he had 2 other men working with him. When my friends dropped by they said there was a young man painting the custom made cabinets we had installed. Paul had told us this whole process he was going to do to the cabinets to make them look really good and that was not the out come. Frankly, I could have done a better job. The subcontractor Paul used to refinish our hardwood floors did an EXCEPTIONAL job, the same goes for the granite contractor he used. Paul's estimate and final price were seriously out of whack from each other. When Paul provided out estimate he promised us he was not the type of contractor who estimates one price and then starts charging for every new thing that may come up, but he did exactly that. One thing I actually pointed out to Paul was the floor joists being loose and making the floor feel really unstable but he seemed to just dismiss this concern. When he started on the remodel he found that that joist DID need to be replaced and charged us to fix this. The one thing I would stress if you choose to work with Paul is that he WRITES DOWN every single thing he agrees to do for your project. He will tell you he doesn't do that on his contracts, but you really need to insist. We had agreed that he would install a composite deck and run electricity out to the deck, when we returned it was a wood deck with no electricity hook ups. He of course claims he never agreed to the composite and now we don't have any proof. He was also supposed to save the antique windows from the house that I specially marked to be able to use later, and he got rid of them. Certainly something that I would have wanted in writing to protect myself. This whole thing is very disappointing because while some of the stuff looks very pretty, we simply didn't get what we wanted and are out a great deal of money and will have to spend MORE to get things exactly as we expected. I have emailed Paul twice about these issues and he has failed to respond.

How'd it go you ask? Well I cannot use enough positive adjectives to describe the quality of the work and the ease of working with Paul and his crew, Don and Brian. The job was done correctly and at a reasonable cost. Paul listened to what we needed/wanted and he was able to complete the work within budget. We have already started a future list of jobs for ?A Cut Above Carpentry. It is very reassuring to know we can trust Paul and his crew to complete the work properly and in a reasonable time frame. We are confident in his integrity and ability, and that makes us very happy!
Description of Work: Paul Bryan, A CUT ABOVE CARPENTRY, was hired to remodel a bathroom for accessibility. The original bathroom was enlarged, requiring two walls to be moved, and a 36" pocket door installed. The existing tub was removed. The floor was leveled, ensuring proper drainage of the shower unit. Plumbing for the sink and the shower was relocated; the sink and a low threshold shower unit were installed in the new locations. The toilet was replaced with a comfort height - toilet. Electrical outlets and a closet light fixture were relocated. A new ceiling light outlet and fixture was installed. Moisture barrier sheet rock was hung, taped and sanded on all new walls, the shower surround and the ceiling. Underlay for sheet vinyl was installed and the vinyl put down. Finish work included calking, door trim, baseboard, quarter round, chair rail and decorative boards. Inside construction debris was cleaned up at the end of each day. All refuse was removed on completion of the remodel.

I hope I actually included everything Paul did, but I might have left out something. Paul and his workers did an OUTSTANDING job with the work on a 1950s house that has enough settling that they had to compensate for it in the bathroom. We are looking forward to working with A Cut Above Carpentry again on several other large home improvement projects.
Description of Work: Reframed and replaced three outside doors, replaced 14 windows, painted windows outside, completely remodeled original bathroom. Gutting the bathroom included removing wall tile; removing floor tile plus several inches of concrete; removing bathtub, toilet, sink. Updating the bathroom included completely rebuilding the floor, the cost of a new tub, its installation, wall tile, fixtures, and some plumbing replacement; installation of replacement toilet, flange, and pipe; installation of new cabinet sink, fixtures, and pipe; floor tile installation and grouting; dry wall installation and painting.

This is the second job we have hired A Cut Above to perform due to the fact that the first (a bathroom repair/remodel on another rental property) job was done so well and in just a few days for a very reasonable cost. Paul and his crew were great to work with. Very responsive, courteous and friendly. Paul continuously kept us updated on the progress of the job. Although the job took several months from start to finish, (due to no fault of the Cut Above Crew) the job was done efficiently and in a timely matter. In fact we have a few other small jobs that Paul's crew will be working on at our personal residence in the next couple of weeks. We even have another remodel job we plan on contracting them to do after the first of the year. Again, I would like to reiterate that Paul and his crew are great to work with :)
Description of Work: Extensive remodel of small rental house. Including demolition and remodel of kitchen and bathroom. Also replaced all water damaged drywall and installed new tile in bath, kitchen, dining, living room and hallway. Painted all interior walls and ceilings. Also painted exterior of dwelling. Installed new porch posts and replaced all interior and exterior doors. Also installed new kitchen and bath cabinetry.

(member name) was great to work for, once again where blessed to have such great customers. This home was build in the 60 and was in bad need of updating. We completely stripped the home and brought it up to todays standards'.
It was a great experience. They were on time...they stayed on site.....they didn't try to do several jobs around the county at the same time. They were all very friendly. Helpful. I just can't say enough good things about them. They knew what they were doing and probably most importantly they worked as a team...which is so important. They will be back in about three weeks to add on a master bath. Thanks guys.
Description of Work: Made my badly done kitchen look wonderful. Now maybe I'll cook in it! 0:) Anyway sanded and painted all cabinets, new crown molding around cabinets, put in new sink....new granite counter tops, took down unnecessary moldings, hung pot rack, put in beautiful vent, built me a great nick-nack shelf, painted ceilings and walls and I'm sure there is something I have forgotten.

The following Monday, he called me and said he had gone out of town and was gone all weekend. Did he not know on Friday night when he called me & left the message for me to return his call, that he was going out of town??? Duh! o Anyway, I just listened and then he said that he had a price for me. Now mind you, all I wanted him to do was to take up my ceramic tile in my bathroom, pull out a fiberglass shower & replace the floor with a heated floor mat, that I was furnishing, reinstall new tile on the floor, tile the shower with my tile, etc. that I would be furnishing. That was it; no moving walls, no anything more. (Well, I have bought several houses over the years & remodeled them myself, & do know about such things, so I was expecting a decent price, especially after all that fine talk of how well he treated his customers. I am getting older, or I would have tackled this job myself, but my husband insisted that this time, we hire this job out, as it would be prolonged if I did it.) We had just had another bath done that we, my husband & I, removed the ceramic tile & fiberglass shower and tub unit from. We then hired out the replacement work, with much dissatisfaction from that remodeling guy! He took two months to finish our job!!! And he took so long doing the work that when he removed the taped down walkway that he'd been using to come & go, in & out of our home, that the tape removed the finish from my hardwood floors! My husband was so ready for the guy to get out of our lives that he just let him get away with ruining our floors in several rooms!!! BUT TO CONTINUE WITH THIS PRESENT NIGHTMARE... he said he had spoken to his grown son about this job, (evidently being inexperienced with the heated floor mat), & that he had come up with a price of $5,500.00!!! I had already had 2 other estimates of them furnishing everything but the floor tiles & their prices were less than $4,300.00!!! I told him that there was no way I would do that, & thanked him for calling! Of course, I was not going to use him, anyway, after he had led me down the garden path, so to speak! Evidently, his lack of experience was the reason he had not called me back in the first instance! I guess if people have this kind of money to pay such prices as I have seen on here for his work, & if he can handle their jobs, more power to them. I JUST THOUGHT OTHERS SHOULD KNOW OF MY EXPERIENCE!!!
Description of Work: My husband got the number for this business directly from Paul, himself, the owner, as he was in my subdivision working at a nearby home. My husband gave the cell number to me; I called Paul, & he didn't answer. Thinking that he would see my call number on his cell, & return my call later, I didn't leave a voice message. Silly me! Again, after a couple of days, I called him & he told me when he could come over for an estimate. He did arrive, though after the appointed time. He stayed over an hour, just talking... telling us how great his work was, how dependable he was, how satisfied folks were with his work, etc. We are Christians, & he said he had been to church that morning, & so we thought that was a good indicator, as well. He seemed very likeable & I told him what I wanted & gave him some information I had printed out, on the details of what I was thinking of doing. He said he would read over the paper work I gave him & then come back to look at the actual site of the proposed work... (my bathroom). He didn't even look at it that day, but just talked on & on. He also said that he had told his wife he would return home within the hour, which he did not do. He just stayed & talked. She called him several times on his cell, (he said it was her calling) but he would just turn off the ringer & continue talking. That was an indicator to me of how much respect he had for his wife! Anyway, he finally left. We did not hear from him anymore, until perhaps 10 days later, I told my husband I was going to call him & just ask him, after all that fine talk, why he had not called us back, nor come over, as promised. When he answered his cell, I did ask him that & he started giving me all kinds of excuses. I just listened & I guess he got the message without me saying more, & finally stopped with the excuses & said something like, 'Yeah, I know; there are no excuses for not calling you back. I saw your paperwork on my desk yesterday, & thought, 'I should really call that lady back, but I just didn't.' Well! He said that he would finish reading my paperwork of what I had wanted him to do, & would try to find the time to work out an estimate for me. I just went along with him, to see what would happen next. THIS WAS TO BE AN ESTIMATE ON LABOR ALONE; I WAS GOING TO FURNISH ALL MATERIALS! The following Friday night, 3 or 4 days after speaking to him on the phone, we were out to dinner & he called, leaving me a message to return his call. I did, & got no answer. I did leave a message that I had called & that he could call me back, as late as he wanted, anytime...

It seemed to go well and looked good. There was some trim left off and they were nice enough to finish it for me. However, there was a place at the top of the doors where you could see sunshine, they tried to adjust it but it's still there. Today I hired some people to come out and fix it and it's going to cost me $400.00 to take the doors off and redo it properly to get rid of the crack above the doors. It probably wouldn't bother me, but I am putting my house on the market and it has to be fixed.... They were very polite and professional, have no complaints with that.

I replaced a leaking French door with a new quality door. I called customer about a week later to insure door was not leaking. She explained that he son was not happy with the trim. So I went back and install new trim to her sat faction . While I was there I adjusted door because you could see light at top of door. Customer was happy. I have heard nothing from customer on any issue with the door. She has a 1 year warranty on my labor and I would been more then glad to adjust door to fix any problem she had. Why would you pay someone 400.00 when I would fix free. It makes no since to me. I stand behind my work no matter what it takes. Just read all the reviews not one person will say I don't because I go way beyond what most will do. I believe in customer service that's what I have built this company on.

We used two contractors before finding A Cut Above Carpentry. Had we found this contractor first we would have saved a lot of money and the job would have been done correctly and quickly. A Cut Above came to work every single day until the job was completed. Not once did they leave our site and go to another site. Once they started on the house they did not leave until it was completed. Punctual everyday. The owner of the company was on site every single day to ensure work was moving along at a steady pace and in compliance with our wishes. I'm embarrassed to say but several times I changed my mind as to how I wanted something done and each time they were happy to make the change emphasizing "we just want you happy because you have to live with it". We lived in the house during the construction and each day when I came home from work my house was clean. I never once felt like I was living in a war zone because they cleaned up each and everyday! No drama with the workers, always in great moods and pleasant to be around. I can't say enough "Good Things" about this company. We never knew them before the job and will use them when we build the master suite. Please use this company for any job. They are fair, honest and hard working workers who truly want the home owner to be happy during the job and after. They are definitely A Cut Above the rest!

Quality job done efficiently (only took two or three days) and at a reasonable price. Alan Bryan and his crew were very professional and personable. I was so impressed that I am hiring them again to repair/remodel another property in April 2014.

Fantastic once again. Paul and his crew replaced all 14 windows in our home in one day. I don't think they took a single break other than a short lunch break. They did quality work at a fair price and I wish we would have had them replaced sooner. It was a pleasure having the crew from A Cut Above Carpentry in our home and I look forward to our next project.

Contractor was on time and always kept me informed about the progress. The contractor did the following work: Replaced water damaged ceiling with new sheetrock. Replaced walls with new sheetrock. Installed ceremic tiles on the floor. Painted ceiling and walls. Replaced the sink and sink cabinet. Replaced the toilet. Installed a new mirror. Also hooked back up the ceiling light and other electrical as needed and removed all the packaging from the property.. The entire job only took three days and the quality of work was excellent. I am very happy with the job and the cost! Will definitely hire again for future projects.

[member name removed] is another prime customer in need of repairs. After meeting with him, I better understand why so many people are using Angle's list. What a great way to review a company's track record; being able to see customers rating them after the work is completed. It's an alternate "word of mouth", but better because everyone can read good or bad faster. I never fear what someone will say about A Cut Above Carpentry, because I know we have 100% customer satisfaction. [member name removed] had a leaking roof which was rotting ceiling joists and flooring. I removed all the bad wood and installed new, then sheet rocked ceiling and walls and then painted. We installed tile flooring and a vanity. All this was done in three days. The one thing I pride myself on is punctuality. If I tell you I'll be there at a certain time then bank on it, or the good Lord has given another life away from earth. [member name removed] was great to work for, and as with many other customers I look forward to his next project.
Choosing someone to do work in my home is a nerve wracking experience for me. I want someone that I can trust to stay true to their word, is punctual, professional, arrives and completes job on time, of course does quality work, and I want all of this for a fair price. Paul Bryan exceeded my expectations in every one of these categories. I felt comfortable having them in my home and I felt comfortable leaving them in my home when we weren't here. Usually have work done in my home feels like a huge inconvenience and is an unpleasant at best. This was not at all our experience with Paul and his crew. He's completed two jobs for us and we are in the planning stages to begin the next. I highly recommend using A Cut Above Carpentry. Paul Bryan is a man of his word and does quality work. I can't wait to get him started on our next project.

Wow, great people to work for. I'm so lucky to have great customers like the [member name removed]. They trusted us in their home. We completed the work ,cleaned up and showed them the finished job. Then the best part is when the customer says "Great job guys". I look forward to the next project. I take each customer and treat them like they are my first one from over 30 years ago. As my late grandma Waters said "You're only as good as your word, and your word is only as good as your actions. Anything else you might as well stay home". I honor those words and live by them every day. My logo is : The First thing We Build Is A Customer Relationship the testimonies from customers reflect this.
