The technician came out the day after I filed the claim with my home warranty company. He arrived and checked out the unit, stating that he was unable to see the unit stop working, as it was working while he was there. As a precaution, he ordered the special sized motor fan he thought was needed to repair it, vowing to return the beginning of next week. (He came on a Friday afternoon.) Tuesday I called back to Southern Services, stating I had not heard from them to schedule another appointment, and spoke with the owner. The owner made it out to the house first thing the next day, and was able to continue trouble shooting the problem without me being home or interrupting me from work. Without being able to see the problem, again, he worked through different options until he was able to eliminate the problem. They had great customer service and I would recommend them!

Our servicer was very nice and did a thorough job. He did tell me we needed all new duct work. He was going to send another person to check it and give an estimate. He did say that was not his expertise. We have a home warranty that covers that so I called them instead and that servicer said we only needed two holes sealed, and we didn't need new duct work. I'm not sure if we really need new duct work at this point but since it would be an astronomical figure we will wait and see.

Every year when it starts to get hot the air conditioners at my 25 unit apartment complex have to be gassed up. We called Southern Services. One of the employees at Southern Services called me on my cell phone when he was on his way which meant we didn't have to wait. He worked very professionally and quickly to gas up my a/c unit. The charge was a very reasonable $55. I don't mind paying that for quick and efficient service.
Description of Work: Southern Services gassed up my apartment air conditioning unit.

Horrible!
Description of Work: Southern Services was chosen by HWA Home Warranty to repair a propblem with our central heat and air that began 4 April 2012. It is 8 October (yes six months!) and today we are finally getting it finished. They couldn't find the problem, they couldn't fix the problem when they claimed they found it. They didn't show up when they said they would; in fact, they told us we were "too far out" in the county and kept putting us off and putting us off and putting us off. When they finally declared our unit unfixable and HWA agreed to pay for a new one, they installed an AC only unit, no heating. AND they removed property they were told not to remove. In other words, they committed both theft and fraud. I called HWA and put them on this. The owner admitted it was the wrong unit and insisted he had no idea how this could have happened. Promised he would get his installers out ASAP with the new unit. Two weeks later I called and demanded it get done NOW! as the temps were dropping. They don't show up when they say they will, they don't know what they are doing, they don't do what they promise they're going to do. I'll never allow them on my property again.

[member name removed], I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this job caused you and your husband.I tried several times to get Home Warranty of America to reassign this job because you were out of our covered area.We were provided with wrong unit by HWA, once we were made aware of this we contacted your Home Warranty Company. We were provided with another unit and installed the 2nd unit as soon as it was available to us.There was nothing removed from the property other than the first unit provided by HWA, which in return I paid for out of my pocket. After numerous trips to the home the customer was not asked to pay any extra cost. This job went bad from the start and again I sincerely for any inconvenience this home owner may have concurred. We needed a new coil and they did a great job replacing it. They gave us a quote and stuck to it. The price was very good for replacing the coil. We use this company all the time now. They are very trustworthy. I would even trust them to come into my home, even if I was not there.

As a home warranty issue, this problem may have received a lower priority somehow. Their initial callback and response was OK, but each time I would call them back - it took longer for them to respond. There was always some excuse like 'We don't work on weekends', or 'That part is not available anymore' . . . The initial call was placed mid-November 2007, and by early February 2008 - they were not returning my calls. That was a long time to have to go outside and kick the heater to start it. I felt that their customer service was sub-standard, and I would not recommend this contractor.
Description of Work: This service was covered under a home warranty program, so the cost indicated was charged to me for this 'event'. The outside HVAC unit is known as a 'gas-pack', and uses pipeline gas for heat, and conventional refrigerant for cooling. The heater would fail to start a small fan, which is required before the gas is enabled for ignition. It would only fail when it was below about 40 degrees. I could go outside and kick the side of the unit, and it would come on. This service company made several trips over several months, but could not fix the problem. Finally I complained to enough people at the warranty program, that they sent a different contractor. This 2nd contractor identified the problem in about 10 minutes, and had the replacement part on his truck.

The technician, Mike, from Southern Services Company fixed a problem that no one else could fix. He was great. Their prices were reasonable too. I would use them again in the future.

He wasn't my choice. He was designated by my home warranty company, Old Republic Home Protection. The warranty company wasted a lot of both of our time trying to get my A/C handler fixed. When he removed the old A/C unit, he accidentally put a hole through the A/C closet door. I didn't ask him to cover the cost to repair. Not the biggest deal. My two biggest problems with him was (1) his lack of promptness and dissrespect for my time, he came 2+ hrs late to all three visits and I work full time so he wasted my annual leave, (2) He overcharged me for his services. The warranty company is supposed to be charged for any of his "effort" and time. Any changes to my home that are needed in order to fit in the new unit and haul away the old unit are my responsibility (~$175 total out of the $375). He attempted to overcharge me by $300 but we got him to only overcharge by $200. I informed ORHP of the situation and I am awaiting his refund for the $200 in the mail. Apparently this is his normal business practices. The warranty company measures his effectiveness by how much he ends up charging them in the end so he regularly underestimates and charges it to the customer. Sad really. His final charge was lower than the estimate because his staff calculated the additional fluff they were planning to charge for services not rendered in the estimate to the waranty company of what was expected to come out of my pocket. I called in the need for the repair on June 19. It didn't get repaired until July 10. 90% of the extreme delay was not due to Southern Services.
Description of Work: His staff (Bruce) inspected the damage on (6/22) and the owner himself performed the removement of the old air handler (7/8) and replacement of the air handler (7/10).

He was supposed to call me Monday morning and did not. I had to then call them. He said he would possibly be there later in the afternoon, but never called or showed up. I called again that evening, and he said I would be first on his list for the morning at 9 a.m. He was still not here at 10:30, so I called and he said he got hung up on another job, even though I was supposed to be first on his list for the morning. He told me he was on his way at 10:30 but still did not arrive until 11:30. He then said everything seemed to be fine and did not need to fix anything. I was not pleased with the lack of responsiveness. I will not use them again unless I need to because my home warranty company uses them.
Description of Work: They came out to check the air conditioning unit. I had to pay the fee just for him coming out even though he did not actually end up doing anything.
