I called Benjamin Franklin, and Jackson Plumbing Inc showed up. I had a broken pipe that was underneath my kitchen sink that they charged me $651 to fix. They also fixed a leak on the upstairs shower. I had bought a new shower head from them. They charged me 500 to install it (Including the price of the shower head). He was only here for about 2 hours, and it was not very reasonable. The product is good, but the price is unreasonable.

I called Ben Franklin Plumbing - Jackson Heating and Cooling and they sent out a plumber that afternoon. There was a leak from the check valve in my plumbing from the water meter. The two gentlemen went right to work and had the leak repaired in less that one hour. They honored their warranty for the PRV that they installed 17 months ago even though I would have gladly paid for their exemplary work.

The two plumbers from Jackson Plumbing (Ben Franklin) came right out and went right to work. They had difficulty getting the old water heater to drain so they removed it almost completely full of water. To further complicate things the water heater was installed inside a very narrow closet. They installed the new water heater with drain pan and expansion tank. Great work by a great company!

The service itself was fine and the serviceman did what he was supposed to do. I've used this company the past 3 years for my annual Renault water heater flushing and have never had a problem, however, I did have an issue this year. They were scheduled to come to our home at 9 am. The day of the appointment I was called into work, but my daughter was at home. The company called my phone before their arrival time, but since I was at work, I could not answer. Finally my daughter called the company at 11 am and was told that they had called and since no one answered, they did not come out. They did come out to service the water heater once we called, but the woman I spoke with on the phone made it seem as though it was my fault that they did not come at the scheduled time which I feel was poor customer service. For this reason I am considering other options for next year's service.

Ethan came out and performed the quote and the work. He was VERY professional and courteous explaining everything that I needed to know giving me plenty of options to choose from. I have dealt with many other "Rooter" type companies in the past. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing's costs were right in line with their competition but their professionalism and customer service are better than the rest. The tobacco free workforce was very refreshing and the way Ethan handled himself outside and inside my home was superb. From covering his boots while in our home to cleaning up all of his work outside I don't think anyone could have done a better job.

. Provider came to our house in a timely fashion when we called about a leak, and informed us that our water heater was in need of replacement. We thought that was probably the problem and had researched the cost of water heaters. The estimate to replace our water heater was over sixteen hundred dollars if they provided the water heater. If I provided the water heater and all the parts, they gave me an estimate, just to do the work, of eight hundred fifty five dollars. The next day I called our gas company and they installed a new water heater the same day for seven hundred fifty dollars for the heater and labor. It took them about an hour and a half to install it, and while these professional plumbers would have done one or two things a little better, there is no way in this world that their service is worth what they wanted to charge for it. I won't be able to use this company again.

Response from Jackson Plumbing, Heating, & Cooling
Our company has been to (member name removed) home and performed service many times. We value his opinion. On this particular problem, Obviously we didn't do a very good job of explaining why our water heater price was more than he expected that day. First, our Senior plumber that was dispatched to his home is certified as a Master Plumber and a Journeyman gas fitter by the Alabama Plumbers and Gas Fitters Board. Our services and the products we provide have an unconditional !00% satisfaction guaranty. We also included in our water heater price some additional work that needed done to insure his and his families safety. Our reputation in our market is extremely important to us, as we have been serving this market for 27 years and maintain an At rating with our local Better Business Bureau. We work very hard to insure that our prices are fair for the products and services our clients receive. We maintain a staff so that we can be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Hopefully (member name removed) will reconsider his rating based on years of previous good experience with our company. I personally, as owner plan to call him and make an effort to restore his trust.

This a rental property with the owner not local to property. Ben Franklin was contact on 5/18/2013 and scheduled an appointment for repair of a leak at the house side of the meter. An apprentice showed up to perform the repair, he ,the apprentice called me indicating he located the leak and that the repair cost was $450.00. I asked several questions about the repair, which the apprentice could not answer without calling what he called the head plumber or journeyman. After 4 phone calls between the journeyman plumber and the apprentice he was able to answer the questions I had. The job included replacing a small length of bad PVC piping and adding a pressure regulator. The pressure regulator was not a necessary item but was added to the job without request or notification. The apprentice indicated that this is the regular practice by the journeyman plumber to add a pressure regulator regardless of pressure produced by the meter. The cities meter provides pressure regulation to all houses and the city would be responsible for over pressurization of the system if that were to occur. Although a pressure regulator after the meter is not a totally bad idea, it is secondary device and the resident or owner should be given the option for purchase. Also the journeyman recommended that all piping be replaced between meter and house, this is approximately 60 ft. of PVC at the cost of $2,000.00

Overall wonderful experience.
Description of Work: The gentleman that performed the job was very professional and very well-versed in the work that I needed done. My water heater was not repairable AND it was in the attic. NOT a good thing! I found a place in the laundry room for the new unit. However, new copper lines had to be connected to the pipes in the attic. Overall, the job took about 6 hours to complete and I could not be happier. Well done, Benjamin Franklin!

My biggest complaint was the price. It was $190 to fix an internal leak in a commode - labor only - no parts. I had a $50 off coupon, so it it cost me $140 but I still think it was too much. I called at 7:30AM on Saturday, the receptionist said I was the second customer of the day and to expect the plumber around 11 or 12. When no one came, I called at 12:30 and the plumber finally arrived at 1:30. It took him a while to figure out what the problem was, but finally replaced a part I had installed with a simple flapper that I had, and straightened the tank. That finally stopped the leak, after about an hour of trial and error. On the bill, the charge was the lowest available: $129 for simple labor fix (it goes up from there depending on the work), plus $59 trip fee no matter the distance. At least I'm glad I had the $50 off coupon, or I would really have been upset.
Description of Work: My problem was an internal leak in a commode. I could not see where the water was going, and the tank kept filling up every few minutes. I had already replaced all the parts but the problem persisted.

I had a slow drain in my bathroom and had been wanting it fixed for ages. I found this plumber on Angie's List and it said you get 25 dollars off if you found them there. I thought the price was high, but was not sure what kind of work would go into it. I signed the paperwork and he was done in no time. I did not receive the 25 dollars off, although I had mentioned it to the man I made the appointment with. I thought for the amount of time and the fact that it was a service call only the charge was very expensive. However, I can take a shower now without having a foot of water in the tub. It now drains great. The only problem I have is with the price and the fact that I didn't receive my discount.
Description of Work: The service professional arrived and took a look at the bathtub drain that needed cleaning. He gave me an estimate of 198.00 to fix the drain. It took him 30-45 minutes of snaking and testing and he was done. He suggested I get a new drain and offered to do the job for another 198.00.

They did a great job. I had them come at the last minute notice. So they came out real quick and right away. I called them at 8'o clock and they were there within an hour. I had different plumber come out years ago and I had Benjamin Franklin Plumbing fix that problem for me.

I met Keith Jackson, owner of the Ben Franklin franchise and Jackson Plumbing, at the Huntsville Home Improvement Show. He impressed me as a forthright, honest individual who was deeply invested in his community, not just as a business owner but as a resident as well. We are new to the area and had to leave all of our craftsmen behind and start all over again - a scary proposition. I called Keith and told him the water heater needed immediate attention and request quotes for that and the other work. Andy and John came out immediately, were understanding, polite and responsive to our many questions. They advised that they quotes were based on a 'work schedule' which we were acquainted with and don't object to if we're getting quality service and craftsmanship. Andy gave us four options for the water heater issue. Surprisingly (to us anyway) we opted for the most expensive because in the long run it would be more efficient, a selling feature and would save us money. That option was to replace the conventional water heater in the 2nd floor closet with a tankless unit that is LP-fired and mounted on an outside wall and also had a circulating pump to the system. It is actually more complicated than this when I think about all of the work that Andy and John did but I'm not writing a book here. We went from having to run the water in the kitchen sink and wait 2 minutes and 45 seconds to a mere 6 seconds. The same for the powder room - instant hot water. The temperature control (at Andy’s suggestion) is installed in a first floor laundry room, out of sight. Andy looked at the incoming water supply pipe and valve and took a photo of it and advised that due to slightly hard water and the array of dissimilar metals used, that a dripping leak (clearly shown in his digital photo) had developed. We opted for immediate replacement with the new shut off valve being relocated in the attached garage with a PRV (pressure reduction valve) and a quarter-turn ballcock shut off valve. After the offending unit was cut out, John showed us how, in the 16 years since it was installed, lime scale and deposits had formed in the piece and reduced the water flow. Now we can shut off the water supply from a convenient location. This work was concluded on Thursday and we had a problem getting water to run at all. We called for Andy and I have no idea where he was but 30 minutes later his truck was in our driveway. A slight valve adjustment was made to the tankless unit and we were back to full pressure. Some might say that they should have caught this before but I was more impressed with the IMMEDIATE response we got from the office and from Andy. No excuses, no delays, no put-offs, but a right-now-response. The following Monday work began again: The non-working toilet and scrub sink were that way when we bought the house; we never inquired as to why they were that way. Andy and John found out why when they opened they valve to the garage and found that the in-wall pipes turned into a water fountain: old, burst pipes that were never repaired. Based on the previous work they had performed, we just told Andy to go ahead and do whatever he needed to do to the sink/toilet supply line. They're repaired and working now. These are honest, hard-working, well-trained and experienced craftsmen. They worked constantly, no coffee breaks or back-sliding here and I suspect they gulped their lunch down while working if they ate anything at all. Their clean-up was meticulous, they were very polite and professional in our dealings with them, Andy gave us his cell phone number and said to think over the proposal and if we had any questions to be sure to call in the evening although he was at his son’s baseball game. Being new here we still have to find other craftsmen and workmen to replace those 'we left behind' but when it comes to anything plumbing related we are 100% sure of who we will call next time, any time.
Description of Work: 1. LP-fired water heater in second floor closet had developed a slight leak into drain pan. 2. Water supply shut-off located in crawl space, wanted more conventient location for this critical item. 3. Water hammering in pipes. 4. Toilet and sink in garage not working.

The drain pipe below the sink was loose, he tightened it, but tried to sell me a $300 garbage disposal which he said would keep the pipe from shaking loose. Two weeks later the pipe was loosse again. I tightened it myself and it has been fine since then. WAY overpriced and try to sell you things you don't need. As a comparsion, I replaced a toilet in my house recently, had work done on a second toilet to replace the floor flange, and the cost of the work, including parts was less than what I paid for Benjamin Franklin's repairs. FYI: Byford's plumbing is a much better choice!

We found out on a Sunday afternoon that our hot water heater was leaking badly. I looked on Angie's list and found this plumber. I left a message and within 15 minutes, he returned my call. I explained the situation, we discussed options and he said a team would be out at 9 AM with a new tank on the truck just in case our old heater could not be repaired. They arrived ON TIME in a very nice truck, well dressed, clean and had outer garments to wear to protect their good clothes. They were very professional. The old heater was assessed and they found that the old heater had needed a thermal expansion tank that was not installed with this unit. This created pressures that caused the bottom seam to rupture. We needed a new unit and thankfully they had the foresight to put one on the truck if needed. I would recommend this company to anyone. Thank you so much!

We were referred to Keith Jackson at Benjamin Franklin by our architect. We were very impressed right from the start, because he met us at the architect's office to help design the plumbing layout, and went back and forth a few times with us and the architect to get to the final plan. He always did what he said he'd do, whether that was to email us a formal quote, call us back or show up at a certain time. He and his crew spent almost two full days laying out the plumbing to get us ready for concrete foundation pour. He also installed conduit for us to carry electrical wiring to several floor outlets. We didn't even call anyone else, because we just knew from the first time we talked to him that we'd get reliable, quality work. The price seemed high, but as I said, we were so impressed and willing to and quot;get what we paid forand quot; rather than try and find someone to do the work cheaper. We plan to have Keith and his crew complete the remaining plumbing for our new home.
Description of Work: New construction plumbing drains and vents for kitchen, two bathrooms, laundry and garage sink before concrete pour. Ready for incoming water from utilities and ready to hook to septic system. Did not include supply, we will have them do this later, only drains. Also, PVC conduit ready for electrical wiring to eight in floor electrical outlets before concrete pour.

They were involved in restoration work. We are very satisfied with them. They gave me a quote before the job. We had used them before and they had done some quality work at that time. We were on an annual checkup prior to this. There were things that they found which were totally at our option. They replaced several fixtures. They replaced a pressure regulator valve. They were very slow. They gave us the total by 2 in the afternoon and they had done an extreme amount of work before they left that same day. So we were very pleased with them. The quality of their work was excellent.
