Description of Work: I developed pain in my left side from my rear down my leg and numbness in the sole of my foot. Also had muscle weakness and, without realizing it, some atrophy of left calf. I also saw Dr. Hadley in 2006 to repair a blown cervical disc at C5-6.

Description of Work: He is my neurosurgeon.

Description of Work: My family has a long history with Dr. Mark N. Hadley. First, he saved my young son's life at the age of thirteen (approximately 20 years ago). My son had a devastating diagnosis of an anomaly in his cervical spine. It could have resulted in total paralysis or death. Due to the skilled hands, techniques and critical knowledge of Dr. Hadley, my son has lived to enjoy a normal life. Family members asked me to get a second opinion. I was at peace with Dr. Hadley, but called a recommended surgeon in Michigan to satisfy family members. There response was "If you have Dr. Hadley, you don't need a second opinion". Second, Dr. Hadley applied a spinal patch for my husband to clean up a bad spinal tap performed in an emergency room that left my husband flat of his back for two weeks. He was instantly o.k. Third, My daughter was allowed to work with Dr. Hadley in a summer program to determine if she would be interested in becoming a medical doctor. She saw firsthand that his attention to detail, obsession with scrubbing/germs, command of his staff/time and total honesty with patients would instill confidence in his patients. Fourth, My husband developed a large rupture in his L5, S1 in February this year. He was in excruciating pain and was poorly handled by his family doctor, with delayed treatment and excuses. I finally gave up on them and called Dr. Hadley's office. His wonderful Physician's Assistant, David recommended that I email him. I emailed him in the evening and had a reply at 5:00 a.m. the next morning to come in that day. He scheduled my husband for surgery two days later, though his schedule was already very tight. My husband has people marvel at his recovery all the time. He was back to work in a week (a typical 6 week recovery), with no pain. Others he talks to who have had similar surgery walk with a cane and are still in pain and off work for extended periods. Summary Birmingham was blessed the day Dr. Hadley put his feet on the ground here. It is important to know, when you don't think he cares, that in fact it is because he cares for all that he can't linger and make small talk with one. Remember that he gets the emergency calls for spinal and head injuries for auto accidents, etc. in the middle of the night while you are sleeping. As with all others surgeons and physicians, every situation cannot be repaired or remedied, and it is possible for a less than perfect outcome for some. Know that Dr. Hadley's statistics are exceptional and his efforts and intentions are for a perfect outcome every time. For my family, he is 100%. And we are 100% grateful for Dr. Hadley and his entire staff--Tammy, Linda, David and others--all of whom are caring and wonderful to deal with. UAB staff, nurses, processes were also wonderful for my husband's recent surgery. May God bless them all.
