This company has zero integrity. My fiancé called them for a rental house we have while I was at work they told her 165$ hr to do job so she agreed over phone keep in mind we already had electrician out replacing electric box. Stephens plumbing came and was gone way before hour my fiancé tried to pay them before they left they said she would get bill in the mail well bill came it it says $465. They took advantage of her because she’s black a woman or just because they aren’t a decent honest company either way don’t hire them and I will not let anyone take advantage of my fiancé/wife it’s not right at all to do business in that way. They should have told her price before doing that little 30min job after telling her $165 over phone total dishonest and crooks.

Bad from the start. Extremely uninformed customer service guy on the phone told me to buy all the wrong things, which I did. NEVER BUY PLUMBING PARTS AT A BIG BOX STORE, which the Stephens guy said to do. BUY PARTS AT A PLUMBING SUPPLY HOUSE. If you're going to pay big bucks for a plumber, it doesn't make sense to buy cheap parts. OK, so bad advice from the get-go. Next, 2 (two) plumbers (????) came. They took so long they started to get irritable with ME. Bill was $700. Called about the bill. When someone finally allowed me to speak to the Owner, he was brusque, rude and didn't want to hear what I had to say. I asked to cut the bill in half. He finally allowed a small discount. Bad experience.
Description of Work: 2 toilets were running; install 1 bathroom and 1 kitchen faucet; install 1 shower head and fix 1 toilet that was running. Extremely young customer service guy on the phone told me to buy all the wrong things and said some things that his plumber said was incorrect. (It turned out later that he was filling in for somebody). Two plumbers (????) came. Bill was $700. Called about the bill. When someone finally allowed me to speak to the Owner, the Owner was brusque and rude. I wanted to cut the bill in half. He finally allowed a small discount. Bad experience.

I had already replaced all of the inside parts of the toilet and wanted to see if there was an issue with the water supply line. I called the company and asked to get an estimate on the work that needed to be done, and asked to be called and told what the problems and options were for repair, since it is a rental house and I would not be able to be present. I never heard back from them and had to call the company, who told me that they made repairs and I would be getting the bill. When I told them that I never authorized any work to be done, they told me that they don't give estimates and that if I call them, they will only fix it and send me the bill, and I have no control over that. When I asked what they did, they told me they replaced the flomaster valve inside the toilet (even after I told them that I had already replaced that the day before, and that it didn't fix the problem). They agreed to take that charge off my bill. But they couldn't tell me how much the bill would be for until it "went to billing". Joseph, one of the owners, was incredibly rude and argued with everything I said. It took over a month to get the bill, which was for $280. They fixed the problems, but since they were not emergent problems and they did not do what they said they were going to do and call me explaining the problem and my options, I really felt cheated to be charged for repairs that I did not authorize. I explained to them that I did not feel that charges were fair and that I would pay the "minimum trip cost" that I was told over the phone, which was $175. The owner told me, "I'll just send the bill to your daddy then" and hung up. I have since paid in full, but I want everyone to be aware of the kind of people that you are dealing with with this company.
Description of Work: Had a spigot that leaked only when it was turned on, and a toilet that was filling very slowly.

The technicians who serviced my home (Paul and Blake) were very professional and friendly. I appreciated their time and efforts. I received a bill that charged me for 1.5 hours of time. My recollection of the time spent at the home was that the time was actually significantly less--around 30 minutes. When I called Stephens to question the bill, I spoke directly with Mr. Stephens. He said that his company truck's GPS showed that they had been at my home for 1:14. I tried to have a civil discussion with him about this discrepancy, and he began shouting. He was unwilling to consider any sort of compromise on the bill. I offered to pay for 1 hour of the time as a middle-ground position. He refused. He shouted that I "needed to find a new plumber." I told him that I planned to review the call on Angie's List and Yelp. He said "Good! I hope you do!" I told him I wouldn't be using Stephens again. He shouted, "Good! I don't want to do work for you!" I paid the invoice in full. I would have had no problem with Mr. Stephens if he had stood by his invoice in a civil manner. Instead, he shouted and was insulting. I did my best to be cooperative and reasonable. If he felt like my position was unreasonable (he obviously did), he could have easily disagreed in a polite manner. Apparently, at least for a few moments, he was incapable of doing so. His rudeness has ensured I will not use Stephens again. My individual letter grades for the service are skewed. It's difficult to separate how cooperative and professional the plumbers were and how rude the business owner was.

Absolutely wonderful! I have used Stephens Plumbing for many years. They are courteous, quick, efficient, and knowledgable. When I told them today what the problem was, they immediately knew what was wrong, fixed it, and it only took about 15 minutes max. I know I can rely on this company and will continue to use them and recommend them!

Two plumbers showed up. Scott and a relative of the owner came and at first said they did not know the type of faucet I had and then said," Oh, its on the front of the faucet. " They stated I would need a new faucet and I asked their advice, picked a faucet off of the web with their advice, called Home Depot, picked one and had it reserved to pick up. They would not got to Lowes which is closer to my home although they charge by the hour. I gave them my number to call me on the way back to my house which they lost. They then looked at another bigger plumbing issue that I was hoping I could give them the business if all went well. When they arrived back I asked how long they thought the faucet would last and they looked at me as though i had asked them their social security number ?! They would not give me an estimate, and kept being squirrelly and nonresponsive. I assured them I was not holding them to the response, but just in their judgment how long should it last? They said "a while." Is that a day, week, 1 year, 10 years-- they would not answer. I thought how strange and called the office out of their hearing as they were being very unresponsive. When they finished, I asked again, and Scott simply walked out the door while the other plumber looked at me again like I asked a highly personal question. I then asked how much the bill would be and they told me that it would be the hourly rate plus the cost of the faucet. I asked to see the receipt of the faucet and the plumber said "its in the truck I will be right back" and I said okay and then they were leaving and backing out of my driveway and I ran out and shouted "hey what about the reciept" and they kept on going and did not show me the receipt. I called the Office Manager and shared this story and when he wasn't interrupting me, he told me my questions about the faucet was unusual?? and my request for the receipt was unusual??!! and there was a 20 percent markup on the faucet which no one mentioned! I have since called another service for the other job and explained what happened and they laughed at how unprofessional Stephens management and plumbers acted and I did not tell him Stephen's name. The Second ;plumber had no idea who I was calling about but said these are common questions. I do not trust this company, they were rude, unprofessional, unresponsive and would not let me see my own receipt.

I removed the old heater. Stephen's installed the new heater and expansion tank. They had to cut the metal legs for my heater stand for the taller new unit to fit. They technicians were very responsive and eager to satisfy my needs and desires. They hauled the old heater away as part of the service at no extra cost.

Contacted Stephens plumbing for an estimate. we have a century home.explained to the woman who answered the phone I had three outside water faucets that needed to be replaced and the pex pipe needed to be replaced with copper. there was a four faucet in the middle of my yard that we would like to get working again. The woman politely told me they do not give estimates. I said we have used them before and had gotten an esitmate in the past. Hold please.......Joseph comes to the phone and repeats $140.00 an hour plus materials. for the hose bib in your yard you will have to dig a new line a create a T connection off the main line. $140.00 an hour plus materials. I asked how long he thought the job would take. response was and quot;I do not know until we get there and look at it before we startand quot; I politely told him I would speak to my husband and relay the information.

Called for a clogged sink. Plumber arrived on schedule four days later. Worked for two hours but could not unclog. Said that there was a break in the line under the slab and we would need a new line. The boss would have to quote it and he would call/come by the next day. After a couple of days without a call, we called and the boss came out the next day. Waited for a couple of days for the quote, then called and were given a price over the phone, but no details of what would be done. Now, ten days after the first problem, we called a different plumber who resolved the issue within two days. Four days later, we get a bill for 260$ from Stephens for the work to unclog the drain! I couldn't believe they were charging us for NOT unclogging our drain and leaving a mess! My wife called and they dropped the bill to $175.. Unbelievable. Well I am too old to fight and don't want a contractors lien on my house, so I just paid it.

One plumber answered the call that my bathtub drain was completely clogged. He unclogged the drain so that it would run okay again, but suggested that the overflow/tub stopper mechanism had corroded and had dropped down and was partially blocking the drain, meaning that junk was collecting around it. He suggested that the entire mechanism be pulled out and replaced with a new, more modern mechanism so that I would not have this problem again. Only issue was that it was going to take two plumbers to do this job, so two trips had to be made. They worked with me on the scheduling, though. When the two guys came back, they were prepared with the parts and equipment they needed to replace the overflow mechanism, the pipe below the tub, and also a new cap for the drain trap after it was cleaned. There was a lot of upstairs/downstairs and inside/outside going on, and I asked that my house not be tracked up. They were very careful, and when done with the project were very good about cleaning up the small unavoidable mess. They said that I would be sent a bill. With prices everywhere out of control, I dreaded getting that invoice in the mail. It arrived a couple of days later, and I have to say that I thought the price I was charged was fair. I am a picky individual, and I would definitely use Stephens Plumbing again.

The first 75% of the job went great. Dealt with Susie mostly and she was always nice. The end turned bad after I received a final bill for $1250 more than the original quote. They sent it on October 30th, but the job was not completed. The final plumbing inspection didn't even occur until 2 months later, and the plumbers never returned to cover the sewer line trench or cover the cleanout lines in the kitchen/bath. They also never tightened the loose kitchen faucet, which I asked them to do. The invoice had a $985 charge for “gas piping” and $265 to “replace washer box and drain.” Since there was no other description, I called Joseph Stephens. He said the "piping" was for running black pipe to the new HVAC system. This one pipe cost more than 10% of the original quote for the entire job. I wanted to know why this line cost so much and why they never called to let me know this work was going to be added (maybe it was agreed to with Wade Heating/Air but I was never told). I asked about the washer drain and Joseph said they had to reconfigure the drain line because of the duct work under the house. The ducting under the house did not change. It was the same as the day the job was quoted. I asked for Robert Stephens to call me to explain. That was December 1st, 2009, and over 5 months later, he still has not called. In January, I sent a check for the original quote amount, plus the upgrades we added. I included a letter saying that I could not pay the extra charges until they were explained to me. I didn't receive an invoice in February or March, so I assumed they let it go. Then I received one in April. I was pretty upset and called Joseph. I ranted a bit (sorry, Joseph) and asked again for Robert to call. He never called. I was holding off on reviewing them to see if this could be resolved, but when I received another Past Due invoice this weekend with the due date marked with a highlighter pen, I decided it was time. Additionally, I spoke to Jimmy Wade (Wade Heating/Air) about the black iron pipe that was installed. He said we shouldn’t have had to pay more than about $250-$300. He also said Stephens installed an improper flex line that did not pass inspection, which he replaced at his own expense. Also, we had a major leak occur in the gas line to the deck. The Alagasco repairman said they shouldn’t have run the copper line lying on the ground under the house because someone could crawl over it and cause a break. He also noticed the water heater was improperly installed (the vent was touching wood) which Stephens had to come back and fix. I'm not sure if this situation will ever be resolved. We never signed a contract, they just gave us a written quote which we verbally agreed to. They never sent me a change order for the extra charges, so we never had a chance to agree to those. I guess they'll just keep sending invoices which I will ignore until Robert Stephens calls, which apparently will never happen.
Description of Work: Replaced 40 gallon gas water heater in attic. Replaced gas lines for stove, fireplace log lighter and grill on deck. Ran new drain lines for kitchen sink and washing machine. Existing water lines were not replaced. Installed kitchen sink and faucet. Rough-in for two bathrooms (installed toilets, sinks, fixtures and one bathtub).

I was pleased with the service once the plumbers arrived. They used several different machines and finally fixed the problem. The only issue I had was with punctuality. They were to arrive at 10 am. They rescheduled to 1 pm and then I called at 3pm and they moved the appointment to the next week. The dispatcher said "it's not supposed to rain this weekend, so we'll get to it on Monday." I was disappointed that I took time off work to wait and I was the one that had to call them.
