Great service. Jimmie arrived onsite and immediately applied protective foot covers to his feet. Discussed work needed and was provided with estimate which was accepted. He proceeded to lay down protective covers on the flooring to protect the wood. The old ceiling fan was removed and the new fan was assembled properly. No wobble detected after installation. He explained in detail what he was doing. At the end he performed a free inspection, provided me with cost estimates on other services and also identified some problem area's with my window frames. Will be using this company and Jimmie again for future electrical work.
Description of Work: Vaulted Ceiling Fan replaced.

They are very polite but expensive people. I had used them before and thought they were high but this was a ridiculous estimate and the guy stood by it. I won't have them back.
Description of Work: I called them to come out and repair a sidewalk light that had not been working for some time. I had the replacement light I wanted to use and told them so and they agreed they would use my fixture. They came out and gave me their "fee up front that covers everything" story. The problem was that the fee was almost $400. The guy said that included "back-filling the hole". The was about 10" in diameter and 14" deep. I told him no thank you - he charged me the $59 for the estimate (they can do that gig all day long) and was gone. I hired another electrician who did the work for $155. Adkins is very expensive.

I'm sorry that we weren't able to provide the service you wanted. We do provide straight forward, upfront pricing on every job. These prices are based on an average amount of time and materials that it takes to do similar jobs. I will review your quote with the technician to see if it was done properly; it is possible that he made a mistake. We have been in business since 1975 so we have a pretty good idea of what it takes to do a job right and to the high standards that we have. That is why we are able to offer the best warranty and a 100% satisfaction guarantee on every job. We do charge a 59.00 dispatch fee in order to get one of our professional electricians in a fully stocked service truck to your home and allow him to take the time necessary to give a written quote on the work. The fee covers our cost to do that, so that we don't have to hide that cost somewhere else. I feel it's more honest and fair to our clients rather than playing games with pricing. I don't know what standards other electrical contractors have but I know ours. It costs more to hire only the best technicians that are drug free and have no criminal history. It costs more to have state of the art service trucks fully stocked so that we can complete most jobs in one trip. But we do these things to provide the best service to our clients. I don't know what kind of warranty or satisfaction guarantee the other electrician provided but I know what we provide. In order to have the best warranty and guarantee we have to use the best parts available and hire the best technicians, and that does cost more. Many people don't realize how dangerous electrical systems can be. Having worked on these systems for the last 26 years I know if things aren't done properly, or corners are cut in order to save money, it can lead to a very hazardous situation. So we are not the cheapest in town but I believe we are the best. As I said earlier we have a 100% satisfaction guarantee and it doesn't appear to me that you were satisfied, so I am refunding your dispatch fee. We don't do that "gig" all day. We provide high quality electrical service to our clients. By providing quality service we have been able to remain in business 35 years, maintain an A+ rating with the BBB and Angie's List Super Service awards. We have worked with Adkins before and both the office staff and the electricians they send are responsive and professional. The electrician, Jimmy Howell, discussed the job and gave us the estimate before beginning the work. It was all done quickly and he tested the smoke alarms to be sure they worked properly. He then did the electrical system inspection, found the bad outlet, quoted us the price for the additional work and quickly finished the job. Since we had the service contract, the price paid did not include a service call charge.
Description of Work: Adkins replaced 3 hard-wired smoke alarms and did a periodic inspection of our electrical system as we have a service contract with the company. During the inspection, we found a bad outlet and replaced it also.

Driveway lights not functioning despite power to the switch. Not due to light bulbs. Required finding the breach and then replacing the outside line. Needed to did to lay the new line and connect it inside the house. All was done in 2-3 hours at the appointed time. Very courteous, professional, and friendly. Originally came to assess the situation and give a firm quote. Returned as scheduled, on time. Along with a year guarantee. Will definitely use them again when the need arises.

2 of my chandelier light bulbs broke off and I couldn't get them out. When Jimmie got here, I had him check the other 3 bulbs (because if those broke off, I didn't want to have to call them again). Sure enough, even with him taking them out, 2 of the 3 broke off. He repaired all 4 for one price. Very nice, very professional, very patient, and very knowledgeable.

I called Adkins just this morning (based on their Angie's list rating) , in hopes of getting some of our outdoor lighting fixed in time for trick-or-treaters. The company worked me in, was outstanding in their customer service viz contacting the technician, giving me an idea of the time he would arrive, etc. Every person I spoke with and dealt with was kind, courteous, professional. The service technician that came to my house (Jeff) was extremely knowledgeable and patient with my many questions. Although our lighting problems were minimal, and were easily fixed by him, it was well worth the money to jhave his expertise, and also to know that we will have an outstanding electrician at our service as other needs arise.
Description of Work: We had outdoor lights with broken-off sockets. These were about 20 feet off the ground. All are now functional. We also have an overhead porch light which has not been functional for about 3 years. This was fixed. The wiring to our house is very old (approx 46 years) with the old-fashioned fuse-box, and the service technician not only did a complete inspection/diagnosis/rating of our current system, but he wrote out a detailed report, and educated me thoroughly as to what the issues are, and what his recommendation was. Although we can't afford to do those upgrades at this time, I would not consider using anyone else but Adkins.

They have done a lot of thing for me in the past and the most recent job was that he put in a thermostatically controlled attic fans. I was very impressed with him and he also told me that it was a good quality fan and that it even had a lifetime warranty on it. They do good work and you pay for what you get. They charged me the $59 travel fee.
Description of Work: I used Adkins Ontime Electric for some electrical work. He replaced my attic fan in August.

I received a phone call 30 minutes prior to the prearranged arrival time announcing that they were on their way. A very courteous electrician and his helper arrived, put on red shoe covers before entering the house, and surveyed the work to be done. I was presented with an estimate for the work required, agreed to it, and they got started. One hour and thirty-six minutes later my three ceiling fans were hung and working perfectly. All unused parts and packing materials had been placed in boxes for disposal and the instruction manuals given to me for safe keeping. This was a first class job from start to finish.The warranty they provide for the work performed was a plus. I could not have been more satisfied and will definitely call on them again.

I'd used them before,and I called and got their "we're helping someone on the other line" message. I hung up to go run an errand, and got a call back from their rep 20 minutes later, asking if they could help! Very professional and presentable staff, and very reasonable price. The timeframe was EXTREMELY good for getting out to my home to work and completing the job.

Great experience. The repairman was very personable and friendly . He was also focused on the problem and determined to find the problem. He removed the light and peplaced a part and there it was! LIGHT!
Description of Work: A recessed light in bathroom would not work. We had been told by several electricians over many years that it must have been a nail in the wiring when the house was built. The electrician from Adkins had it working in 30 minutes.

I don't believe anyone could have been nicer. The office staff scheduled the estimate promptly and the electrician was at my door at the scheduled time. He was very nice--friendly and tolerant of my rowdy dogs. He was thorough and professional. He was the electrician who ultimately did the work and I could not be happier.

Original date promised but changed by Adkins due to staffing shortage (illness?) which is understandable and the requested service was not critical. Technician arrived and quoted the price (staggering). I agreed to it since I have used Adkins in the past and know they do quality work. Project took less than 3 hours which equates to $300/hr. This is outrageous. Will look for more reasonably priced electrician going forward. A real shame.
Description of Work: Re-established the connection between four switches that controlled outside security lights. Light switches had been changed by homeowner but not reconnected to the security lights.

While they are prompt and pleasant, it was very expensive, much more than any other electrician we have used before in major metropolitan areas. We felt trapped because we had already taken off from work and had no other options. There was also an issue about the coupon which the contractor indicated was for next time service not this service.
Description of Work: We had a light fixture installed (wiring already in place), a small neon bulb fixture replaced, some fixtures checked to be sure they were wired and working.

We were having trouble with our downstairs circuit blowing when the air conditioning was running. Adkins came and diagnosed the problem as a box too small for all the electric appliances in the downstairs. They said they could replace the broken circuit, replace the too small box, or re-organize the whole house system (it is 100 year old house) so that it all worked and could be expanded in the future. The electrical had been upgraded in pieces, and was a disorganized mess. We opted to do it right, especially since the service tech was so honest about the cost and about the different options we had. He laid out the least expensive to most comprehensive. He and his assistant scheduled the repair and they showed up when they said they would and did a great job cleaning up. They give prices out a book, so not much flexibility, but very transparent and predictable system.

This company did an excellent job. They even came out on a Saturday which worked well for me as I work from my home. They offer a l00% guarantee. They may be higher than other companies, but you know what you are getting. They were clean, wore booties in the home, and cleaned up after they were finished.
Description of Work: I had this company put in a new bigger breaker box for the house that I had just purchased. They upgraded the system to 200 amps and did rewiring, plugs and such.

They arrived when they said they would and completed the job for the quoted price. The job took longer than they expected due to the complexity of the old wiring in the house. Adkins was patient and took extra time to check out all of the problems. They were great!
Description of Work: Adkins replaced the meter socket, electrical panel, and 40' SEU cable 200 amp, and also fixed several other electrical problems on my house in Birmingham's south side. The house was built in 1915 and due to its age had several problems with the wiring. Adkins employees were knowledgeable and very courteous. I would recommend this company to anyone in the process of restoring an older home. Also the price was lower than several other estimates. I will continue to use this company in the future.

The meter mast needed replaced after a tree fell onto the power lines connected to the house. Once we called them, Adkins was able to come out to the house the very next morning. I requested just the estimate that day, so I had to pay the $59 dispatch fee. Still, out of three estimates we received, they were the least expensive and made me feel the most confident. The same technician who gave the estimate came to the house for the repair and completed the work in just a couple of hours.

It was fabulous. They are fantastic, they were booties when they come in and they put down rugs, they clean everything up and throw away all the boxes. They get the job done and I was really pleased with me.
Description of Work: They hung about five or six fans for us, the changed out half a dozen light fixtures and added some electrical.

Before entering my house the uniformed techs placed footies on their shoes and placed a tarp on the floor. I was given a written estimate before the work was started. Although the cost was high, the repair was completed fairly quickly.
Description of Work: My attic vent stopped working. Adkins techs replaced the fan motor.
