The price included servicing both cooling units and both furnaces, and that is a lot of service for the price. However, it kind of went down hill from there. The service technician said he found a crack in the combustion chamber of one of our furnaces, and that is a carbon monoxide risk. He said that it would cost less to replace the whole furnace than to fix it, but suggested I call Freedom H&C to set it up. Instead, I got a second opinion from another company, and they found no problems whatsoever with the combustion chamber. So, as with any HVAC provider, always get a second, and maybe third, opinion if someone wants you to spend a bunch of money fixing something. Freedom H&C also offers some kind of ongoing service plans. I could never get them to explain to me how these plans worked and what services were provided by them exactly. The technician did not know and said I could talk to the manager because he wasn't sure. Not good.
Description of Work: I had an Angie's List Coupon to have both A/C and both furnace units cleaned and tuned up for about $100. That's a very good deal. The company service technician showed up exactly on time, did all the work, and then gave me a complete report on the status of my HVAC systems. I was very pleased with all of the that. The one problem with this company has been effective communication. They are very nice, but they can never seem to follow through with a call back when they say they will. I purchased a service plan whereby I would get 3 HVAC cleaning/tune ups done over a 2 year period. The price was good, but the company has not sent me notice of when they will be doing those services. Are they going to call me when it is time to set up an appointment for the work? Do I need to call them?

It went well from start to finish.
Description of Work: I bought two deals on Angie's List: 2 HVAC precision tune ups. The gentleman was a little late for our revised appointment, but when he arrived he was courteous and professional. Upon completion of the service he provided checklists indicating both units were working properly. Before leaving, he told me that the water pressure from my outdoor hose was extremely high and recommended that I have it checked out. I appreciated the advice.

Technician arrived on time, introduced himself, and inquired if I'd had any problems. I had not, so he went outside to clean and check the outside unit. He then went into the attic and checked the system components there. He needed a longer hose to clean outside and suggested coming back the next day to complete that portion of the work. I offered him the use of my hose, which was in the back yard. He used the hose, coiled it back up, and returned it to the storage house where he found it. When he was finished, he brought the paperwork to the front door, pointed out key features of his findings, had me sign the form, and he departed.

'I called 2 other companies for quotations, one company showed up the same day, the other following day and both gave me a price the same day they looked at the job. I used another company who replaced the system within 24 hours of my approval. The owner of that company was on site and confirmed the AC coil was completely rusted out and showed me the obvious poor condition of the coil. He also showed me the “drip pan” in question. This was the “emergency drip pan”. The primary drip pan was made into the existing coil and could not be replaced. They also mentioned that Alabama Power has 0% financing available for replacing the systems and noted he would recommend considering changing both systems due to the energy efficiency, age of existing system and financing available. I called Alabama Power and qualified for the financing the same day. All of this seems very simple to me, and now my upstairs is cool again. Friday 9/21 I called Freedom back and requested to speak with the owner of the company to explain my displeasure and to discuss my damage issues. After leaving a message for the owner to call me, the general manager “Ricky” called me back and seemed to have a completely different story of the events that happened at my house. That and a very sharp attitude without a word that was customer service friendly. During our conversation he refused me the opportunity to speak with the company owner and made several ridicules allegations. He said “the paperwork says you told the original technician you would replace the drip pan” and added “Scott said you wanted us to install equipment you were supplying”? Both statements were completely crazy. Also he gave no answer about all of my calls I made for assistance without a return call. After this nutty conversation and hearing his description of what the paperwork said, I told him of several actual events that took place. I asked him if the paperwork mentioned that the tech charged up my AC unit with my Freon or that I gave him a $20.00 tip or anything else that happened that day that he wasn’t reading. He then became infuriated, claiming he would fire a technician for accepting $20.00 and using my Freon. He then asked if he could call me back after he gets a chance to speak with the supervisor and the technicians. I own a lighting & electrical service company and if the customer was one of my technicians and they installed a light-bulb they provided and were offered a small monetary gift as a tip, I wouldn’t fire them?? Ricky the GM did call me back late the same afternoon and informed me his employees were in the room and we were all on a speaker phone. He seemed mostly concerned about the employee accepting a $20.00 tip and using my Freon. The employee denied either, fearing losing his job. He also asked the supervisor Scott and the other technician if I asked them to install equipment that I would provide. Naturally they both said that I did as if they had rehearsed their answers. The technician wasn’t even in the room when Scott and I were taking. Anyway, to end this FREAK SHOW I asked Ricky to think about this and call me back with his decision hoping he would do the right thing. He called me today, Monday morning and told his decision was to do NOTHING! He made no apologies for his unprofessional supervisor refusing to call me with a quote or just letting me know I needed to call someone else or their obvious poor diagnostic skills that his techs lack, etc. He treated me as if I made up the entire story. The owner has yet to call me back either. Unfortunately, depending on cost of the damage repairs, this may become now a legal matter. Note, prior to this disaster, I also rated Freedom with straight A’s for their quick response and what I thought professional work. Beware!
Description of Work: Approximately 2-3 months prior to the last Freedom Heating & Cooling Service call made on 9-4-2012; I was getting my roof replaced. The roofer installing a new roof apparently pinched a wire that controlled my AC unit in the attic causing the upstairs unit to quit cooling. I found Freedom Heating and Cooling on Angie's List with very good ratings and with a free service call offer. I then called them for the necessary repairs. The tech called me on the way. He arrived and repaired the problem fixing the pinched wire in a very short time. Since he got done so fast, I ask him if he checked the Freon levels in both units while on site noting the upstairs unit had to be charged last year. He said no, but kindly agreed and checked them both out. He used the Freon I supplied him to charge the upstairs unit. He said it was several pounds low. Since I had found this company on Angie’s List with the free service call coupon, the complete service call was no charge; I decided to give him $20.00 for doing what I thought was a great job so quickly. On 9-4 I noticed my sheetrock ceiling was wet. This area of ceiling is located below the attic space where the AC unit is located. I called Freedom again to come back and they responded quickly. Another Freedom technician began to trouble shoot the AC unit in the attic. In a very short time, another Freedom employee shows up whom he introduced himself as the supervisor “Scott”. Scott entered the attic and soon came downstairs and sat down while the other technician was in the attic and explained to me that the AC coil was iced-over due to a Freon leak and that both the coil and the drip pan were rusted-out beyond repair. He also apologized for someone not getting back with me before now to repair the drip pan that would have prevented the water damage. He also mentioned that the prior technician obviously didn’t check the coil properly, due to the rusted out condition and due to the fact the Freon was several pounds low. He assured me the company would work with me to correct the damages and he would get me pricing to replace the required AC system. Before leaving the attic the technician turned the system off upstairs with technician cut-off switch. A week or so goes by and Scott still hasn’t called. During this time my upstairs temperature exceeded 85 degrees forcing my children to sleep on the floor downstairs while we are waiting for repairs. More damage is now very obvious, due to the iced-up coil melting and leaking into the ceiling and now down my walls. This due to the fact they did nothing while on site to prevent the iced-over coil from leaking directly to my ceiling and down my walls. Nor did they mention that I needed to call someone to finish their job??? There’s a drain pipe available from the attic?? The stench of mildew smell was overwhelming. After not hearing back from Scott nearly a week, I called his office early morning. The office said he would have Scott call me back. Finely Scott returned my call after 6:00pm. When Scott called me back he seemed sincerely surprised that no one has called me with a quote. I told him of the stench and that my kids have to sleep on the floor while we’re waiting. Again he assured me HE would call me the next morning with all the required information to begin the process. He also mentioned that the owner had been out of town at a wedding and he’s back and he needed to speak with him and he would then call me the next morning. I never got a call back from Scott, the techs or the owner. After leaving multiple messages for Scott without a call back over the next week, I reached him on his cell phone (from my office number) and let him know that I couldn’t wait any longer. I also asked him if he would quote a American Standard or Trane system. He agreed, apologized for the delay again and said he would get right back. Once again, Scott never called me back now going on 2-weeks forcing me to call someone else to repair the upstairs AC.

After reviewing Angie's list for an A/C repair on a unit that had stopped cooling I came across Freedom. I called them and they came out the next day to perform service on one of my a/c units that was no longer running. The reapir was completed the next day and I was back up and running with cool air. As part of the repair I went ahead and upgrade to their maintenance check/tune up for both a/c units which was scheduled for a later date about 6 months later (Sept). Freedom returned in Sept for the maintenance tune up on both units and found that one of the units had major concerns and was needing to be replaced. They provided recommendations and a proposal on the spot. We waited a few days to discuss the proposal before calling Freedom back for a follow up visit to discuss the quote in more detail after I could research what was being proposed and could check into some of the claims of the issues that they mentioned. After checking the units myself and verifying some of the concerns that were brought up by the service technician I then moved to researching what was being recommended as a replacement unit. The inital price was a little on the high side from what other vendors quoted me but I brought that up in the follow up meeting and Freedom was able to work with me some on their pricing to eventually win the business. Not match other pricing but from the professionalism and time frame that Freedom was able to complete the work it was a much better fit for myself and family. We ended up not just replacing the one bad unit but both units that were 21 years old and getting run down not to mention very inefficient units. As soon as we signed the contract workers were being called to begin gathering materials and work began the same day and completed the following day which was truly impressive. The experience was great. Jeff stopped by the following day to review the installation and to assure that I was completely satisfied with the work being performed and to make sure his staff was following company policies to keep their work clean and professional. The work was performed by two technicians and they were very efficient. They installed and tested both units completely and demonstrated how to use the new programmable digital thermostats. We were extremely pleased with the work performed and highly recommend Freedom.
Description of Work: Replaced two a/c units that were 20+ years old with new heat pumps with dual fuel. Complete inside and outside units replaced.

They came out and gave an estimate. They said if we have a better estimate price, they would talk to their boss about honoring the estimate we found. We ended up going with another company. But these guys were professional. I do highly recommend them to others.

My employee called this company and they did call back in a reasonable time frame and they showed up when they said they would. However, my employee said as soon as they guy got out of his truck his words were "our prices are real high, our prices are real high". He had not even looked at the unit. What kind of business does this? He than asked my employee "how much money he was planning on spending on a new unit?" My employee replied, $2000-$2500. The Freedom rep responded with "oh, it's going to be alot more than that, you might as well go with your cheaper option". My employee said well OK and the guy got in his truck and left, never even bothered with a quote. My employee had called another company and that company was there at the same time. Maybe the Freedom rep felt he was not going to get the job. We all have to give quotes and sometimes we get the jobs and sometimes we don't. It's part of doing business. Based on the experience my employee had with this company, I would not call this company again.

He arrived to talk about the system and found another contractor at the house with equipment starting to install the work. He thought he was being used to get the other contractor to lower his price and felt this would be unethical to do. We pride ourselves on professionalism and good reviews on Angies List and would not do anything to jeopardize our great rankings. Please forgive us and we will do better next time.

Earlier in the year, (June I think) I called upon Freedom to take advantage of a discount offered through Angie's list. At the time one of my air conditioners was not working. Freedom repaired the unit, and advised me that I could pay $180.00 fee which would entitle me to 18 months of servicing for my 2 heating and 2 cooling devices. During the service period any service call would be included in the $180.00. Any additional repair work would be additional of course. Last year I paid $60.00 to another company when one of my heaters stopped working only to find out that the pilot light was out. Maintenance would be part of the original fee, including lighting a pilot light. In August, Freedom called and set up an appointment to serve my 2 heating units for no cost since I had paid the membership fee. The service man was very professional and timely. Ryan informed me of the status of my units and was informative. This will save me money in the future.

They originally did work on my unit last June and were able to keep a 15 year old unit going another year. I had a maintenance contract with them and they did a great job. On Monday 8/13 my compressor finally went out. Their technician did a diagnostic and determined it could not be repaird. Then Scott Russell and another young gentleman came out and spent hours with me trying to get pricing and financing arranged for the unit. I cannot thank them enough for their hard work trying to get everything lined up. I would highly recommend them for your a/c and heating needs.

My air conditioner was leaking water really bad. I called them at noon today, Saturday the 11th, and Eddie was very courteous over the phone. He had a technician out to Trussville from Bessemer by 1pm. Jason was right on time and very professional. He walked me through preventive steps in the future. overall, great experience and I will be hiring Freedom for my routine maintenance from this point forward. THANKS!
Description of Work: performed check up on water leak issue. i had cleaned it out the drain pipe prior to their arrival but they took me through step by step on preventive care as well, checked the work and unit to make sure it was working properly.

Our A/C stopped cooling at approximately 3pm Saturday, July 14. After tripping the breaker and rebooting the A/C, which did not help, I looked in Angie's List to find a local company. After researching, I landed on Freedom Heating and Cooling. I called around 6pm and Kim answered. She was very polite and courteous. After I described my situation, she said she would call the 'on call' technician right away and have him call me. About 10 minutes later, Michael Swann called and after I described my situation to him, he apologized and said he wouldn't be able to come that evening, but would make us a priority for the next morning (Sunday) before 11am. He also said he would call when he was on his way. Even though I thought that was perfectly acceptable reaction time, he still apologized for not being able to come out the same night. The next morning, Michael called at 9:37am and said he was on his way. At approximately 10:30am he arrived, quickly assessed that it was a capacitor, replaced it in short order, cleaned our outside A/C unit as a courtesy when he noticed it was dirty and advised us on various ways to mitigate it happening again. Throughout the whole process Michael was extremely courteous, friendly and professional. When he first arrived, he put on 'booties' so as not to track in our house and cleaned up after himself very neatly. As we chit chatted while he replaced the capacitor, I discovered the reason he couldn't come first thing was because he wanted to make sure he serviced an issue an 85 year old man was having with his A/C unit. And although he felt bad about not getting to us until 10:30am, he wanted to make sure he satisfied the older gentleman before the day started getting hot. I told him he did exactly the right thing and kept his word with us as well, arriving before 11am as he promised. Overall, Kim and Michael represented Freedom Heating and Cooling very well and the company should be proud to have them as employees. I would highly recommend this company to anyone!

The service call went very well. Ryan was very patient with us. My husband has a home office and had to keep excusing himself to answer calls. Ryan waited patiently whenever I wanted him to explain something to my husband.
Description of Work: My husband thought one of our units was not cooling as well as it should. Ryan tested the units and found they were fine, and did not need repair. He made recommendations that were easy and inexpensive to improve the performance of our air conditioning. We were so impressed that, since we are forgetful about maintenance, we purchased a maintenance plan that will also give us discounts on air cleaning equipment we are planning on purchasing in the near future.

i needed to have our heat pump serviced - it had been several years so i used my groupon for this. appointment was at 9 and ryan was there on the dot. i let him listen to a noise i had been hearing lately, he diagnosed it, went out and serviced the machine, filled it with the fluid needed and no more noise.good job!

I cut a feed wire to my a/c unit while weed-eating . It shorted the transformer, which was not properly fused. I described to the tech what I had already checked and he went literally straight to the problem part. He had a replacement with him and installed the part in about 10 minutes. He installed a protective fuse in the circuit to prevent future issues. He was knowledgeable and professional. If I had any complaint at all, it would be the price of the replacement part. I do not mind paying for what I get, but the price I was charged for this common part was pretty obviously marked up enough to offset the "free service call with any repair" coupon on angie's list. The overall charge was , I would say, reasonable, but I would much rather pay the price of the part, plus reasonable markup, itemize the part and labor separately, to get a total. $203 is kind of insulting for what is likely a $20 part. Overall, the bill was about what I expected.

It was under warranty. They are very courteous, professional, punctual, and clean. They take care of my issues in a timely manner. They explain what the problem is and what they are doing to fix it. It has been a good experience, I have been very lucky.

Before seeking Angie's list for HVAC Contractors, I called the company that I have used for years (Yates) twice, and they never returned my call.
Description of Work: My furnace/fan would not cut off with my digital thermostat. I had to cut if off at the breaker otherwise it would run 24/7. The office stayed in touch with me to have the tech meet me at home at the best time. The Tech was professional, courteous, on time. I had recently had my roof replaced and other contractors in the attic and someone pinched a control wire. Using the Angie's List coupon the service call was completely free. Freedom Heating and Air may have not collected any revenue from me for this trip but they have earned all of my business for the future. I have several houses and commercial property that I will be call Freedom Heating and Air.

The technician came to perform a routine service check, but found I had a problem with the gas auxiliary motor--a potentially deadly concern. He called in a supervisor who confirmed his diagnosis. I had a home warranty that would have covered the problem for less money, but since the iFreedom technician was already on site, I elected to have him complete the repair. However, the home warranty company itemized the bill for me, which iFreedom wouldn't do, and when I compared the two costs, iFreedom was charging almost double what the home warranty representative quoted as the price of parts and labor. I contacted the iFreedom supervisor with a protest, he contacted his boss, and they agreed to lower their price by $300. I was somewhat mollified, but wish I had waited and gone with the home warranty company. The quality of iFreedom's work was excellent and they were congenial and easy to communicate with.

My wife actually dealt with them. She said they were very professional. They came in and did the service and left. They didn't try to sell her anything. They came in and looked everything over. It was just what we were after.

For our Spring AC check this year, we used an Angie's List coupon from Freedom. They were great - scheduled us quickly, showed up on time, and were super thorough, checking every aspect of our system from basement to attic and outside units as well. Went above & beyond helping us change some filters that were hard to reach, and advising about maintenance. They had a follow-up call afterward (which we missed) as well. We would not hesitate to call them back for future routine checks or repair service needs. Two thumbs up!
