Freedom Heating & Cooling

For the life of me, I will never know how this company has the over all rating they do. We felt like we were completely ripped off (or at least they attempted to). We purchased a Groupon - $29 for Heater and Air-Conditioner Tune-Up ($69 Value) Guy shows up and performs his maintenance and assessment of our systems. He assures us we need a new system immediately. While our system is old, it was working just fine when he got there. Just a tune-up, right??? WRONG. We certainly didn't follow him around and completely trusted him to do his thing and tune us up. A day or two after he left, we had a need to turn on the air conditioner. To our surprise, it did not work! Long story short, we called out our regular guys from another company. Have used them for a while now and have all the faith and trust in the world in them. They found some rather strategically unplugged wires that would cause the system not to run (only a professional would have know to unplug these specific wires). There was absolutely no reason whatsoever for these wires to have been touched! Our guy called us out to look at it. Plugged them back in - guess what? It worked. There is no way these wires could have vibrated loose or anything of the sort. We had used the system only days before the arrival of Freedom with no problems. They show up, try to sell us a $6,000.00 system and assured us we needed it. Our 'guy' plugged them back in, left and it's worked perfectly ever since. Would never call on Freedom again!! Look through some of the other reviews and notice how much folks have spent with Freedom and then look through some of the smaller family owned HVAC companies (We use W.C. Wright and Sons) and see how much people paid for system repairs. How much do you want to spend?!?!?!? Honesty means everything to me.

All work was done in a professional manner. The old main duct trunk was leaking and had a lot of dust etc. from the many years it had been in place. This was the original duct work when the house was built. The new main duct trunk is airtight and very clean and they improved its design. The new return added to the downstairs is helping the airflow down there as well. The new vents coming from the heater unit and hot water heater are now up to code and much safer and the cap on the roof vent is now keeping water out. The old one was rusted on top, but no one had ever let me know this before. I saw how rusted it was. Freedom did a great job and I will use them again in the future.

Cleaned all the ducts from the vents, then tuned up the AC unit. Everything was done in a very professional manner. Thanks Freedom!

Arrived on time and performed the task

Overall, we were happy with the experience and the value received. We had two different technicians, both were good. One the second visit, a supervisor came out to look at a unit and told the tech that he hadn't cleaned the coil well enough. While this was good, I was a little worried that something hadn't been done thoroughly the first time (hence the B in quality). The only second issue I had was the duct cleaning was not as thorough as one might expect. They used a shop vac, not an industrial sized vacuum cleaner or vacuum truck that I have seen used in other settings. Note that they do not include filters in the cost of their servicing.

I did not spend more than the big deal. It is hard to know because I am not a technician, and I do not know exactly what he was doing because I did not go out there, looked, and asked him. It is really hard for me to know what he was doing outside with the air conditioner and what he was doing down in the low part of the utility room with the heating system, but he was a nice guy, and I trust that he was doing a good job. He was very good. I would probably not use them again because we always had one for years and years the day the system was put in.

Very courteous workers. I think they were newer to the job, though. There supervisor stopped by to confirm their findings with the air conditioner. He was honest and straight forward, not trying to sell me anything that I didn't need.

It went well, very friendly and efficient. My only complaint is that they missed the original appointment and never called to let me know.

Things did not go well with Freedom. I found they had good reviews on Angie's List so I decided to give them a try. Day 1 - I contacted Freedom early Saturday morning to schedule an appointment. The guy I spoke with said they had a 4-6 appointment available. At about 5, I decided to call to see where the tech was and was told the tech would return my call. I was called by the tech Craig who said he was stuck at the second of 4 jobs and it would be late into the evening before he could make it. I was understanding and said that would be fine. I just asked that if he could not make it to just call me and let me know. I never heard from him that day. No call, no show Day 2 - Sunday morning, I contacted them around 10am and told them that no one showed up. The assured me that someone would be out that afternoon. Again, a no call, no show. Day 3 - On Monday morning, I contacted them upset that I had 2 no calls, no shows and they promised they would have the tech out within the hour. A few hours later the tech shows up. I was at work but my wife was at home. He looked at the unit for about 3 hours, left for an hour, then came back and worked another hour. He said that he had to wait on the ice to thaw before he could continued and said he would call first thing Tuesday to setup an appointment. Day 4 - I never hear from the tech and call AGAIN to see what is going on. They assured me that the tech would call me. At about 5pm that evening, no call. I called AGAIN and they said the tech would call me. About 7pm, I finally heard from the tech who said he was on the way. He looked at the unit for about an hour and could not figure out what was going on. He thought that the compressor might be bad but said it would cost about $2000 to repair. I asked about the warranty since it was a new unit and he said he could have someone check first thing in the morning and let me know. Day 5 - I AGAIN do not hear anything and call AGAIN. They say that the technician would call me but I AGAIN never hear from anyone all day. I call the techs cell phone and get no answer, so I just give up!! Day 6 - By mistake, the tech calls asking for someone by another name. I tell him he has the wrong number but start to tell him who I am and he immediately hangs up the phone on me. I was more than patient with Freedom but their responsiveness, punctuality, and knowledge were just the pits. I honestly have no idea how they have such a great rating on Angie's List. I would never even think about calling them with this type of bad service.

I couldn't be more pleased with Freedom Heating and Cooling. I purchased a discount coupon and was afraid that I would get "discount" quality work. I was very pleasantly surprised with the thoroughness of everyone who came to our home. In the Fall, a young man came out (covered his shoes) and inspected the furnaces. When I showed him a residue we had collecting around the perimeter of our carpeted rooms, he called a manager who also came to investigate the issue. They spent a great deal of time checking out our units and duct work. While they were there, they could have serviced the AC too, but said they would not get accurate readings when the AC was not actually running. I was afraid I'd never see them again, but when I called to make an appointment, they came right out. The young man who arrived ( Richard Bryant) was very conscientious and checked with a manager regarding using a coil cleaner when he noticed we had vegetable plants growing nearby. I would definitely call Freedom if we had a problem with our heating/AC

Everything went better than planned.The work was done on a timely fashion.Just make sure you call when you want your service done.They do not call you.

Technician arrived on time, was courteous, and professional.

It was excellent. The company obviously focuses on customer service over price. I had a leak in my system. Instead of taking my time and money to perform a silly "leak search", they just patched it up, added freon, and gave me options of "fix my system and leave", or give me a warrant to take care of me in the future. There were no lies, no manipulation, no pressure. I LOVED IT!

We have a large family and needed a large home in the Bluff Park area to maintain the desired school district. When we purchased the home in 2001, both exterior HVAC units were replaced under the home warranty by another company. Not long after they were installed and the warranty ran out, we discovered that there were many issues with the exterior installation and that the interior units needed work as well. So, twelve years later we have placed the home up for sale and both of the HVAC units needed replacing inside and out. I met with six other companies to receive recommendations and quotes as to what was needed. Overall, everyone agreed that the interior and exterior units needed replacing. Even though I specifically requested that all companies quote two-tone units, the pricing differences were dramatic varying by $5K-$6K. After meeting with all of the companies and reviewing all of the bids we decided to go with Steve Miles at Freedom Heating and Cooling. The installers were prompt, courteous and very respectful of our time and our home. Our installation was completed on 5-31-13 and our sales rep, Steve Miles, met with me today for a follow-up walk through to ensure that everything is as was promised - it is! I would recommend Freedom again and again!

My in-laws, The Tidwells, recently moved to Chelsea and they were having trouble getting someone to come out to their house on a weekend to check on their A/C. Some said they lived too far out and others said it was to hot too go up in the attic. So they asked me to find them someone so I used Angie's list and found the highest rated company in Birmingham, Freedom Heating & Cooling. I called them mid-morning on Saturday and they said they would get out there ASAP but all their technicians were booked for Saturday. The gentleman on the phone said he would send someone that day if a job finished early or if there was a cancellation. I thought "yeah right." Sure enough, a technician named Jason Garner showed up in a couple of hours. We purchased the $66 Angie's list coupon for the complete A/C tune up. Since he was pressed for time he told them he'd get them up and running so they wouldn't be sweating all weekend but he would need to come back another day due to the system-wide tune-up since he was so heavily scheduled that day. He did just what he said and got them going in short order and then came back and did the tune-up. Jason Garner was awesome! He was so good they decided to purchase a very affordable maintenance plan with them. They highly recommend him and Freedom Heating & Cooling. Steven Sanders

I was very pleased with the service provided. The service tech Justin was very knowledgeable courteous and conscientious. When he came in the house he put on shoe covers to protect my floors. He was dress very professionally. He gave me a explanation of what needed to be done and options for the service needed. When the repairs were made he cleaned the work area up and gave me a detailed receipt.

Richie was friendly and explained everything he was doing. He was on time and thorough with his work.

The serviceman was very professional. He answered all of my questions. He cleaned out the air conditioner. He checked the burner upstairs. The company did a followup a few days later asking me how it was. He was on time and was very professional. I took a contract with them. They would come twice a year to inspect the burner and air conditioner.

Great job! Quick, profession and courteous! We'll definitely use them again!

Purchased a Big deal for Freedom Heating and Cooling. They came out and did a tune up on the system and cleaned the ducts.

They were prompt, courteous and clean. They did an adequate job and I do not have any complaints. The guy did not seem to know all that much.

He was great. I then signed up with a year maintenance. I was very satisfied with the guy. They are a solid company. I do not think the price is outline. The guy was very punctual, friendly, and did a good job.

On time, returned all calls, everything was done by phone because I live 4 1/2 hours away from home needing repairs. I can't say enough about how helpful they were to me.
