Great experience. Large crew of skilled painters. Work started on time and finished within estimated time frame. Most work done flawlessly. Job foreman and company owner very concerned about making sure I was satisfied with everything before the job was considered complete and final payment was made. Would definitely recommend.
Description of Work: Complete painting of exterior of 3 story home; rescreen porch; restain deck and exterior stairs; paint 1 bathroom & hallway, plus interior of Living Room & Dining Room windows.

My building co-manager, John, initially met with Mike to go over our project needs (some exterior painting and pressure washing and minimal carpentry). We received a quote for the project, but the line items were extremely unclear and did not reflect what we wanted done. We requested another meeting, and after Mike failed to show up or call, the company sent Trent to meet us on site. Both I and the co-manager met with him. We felt very confident that he understood our needs and the scope. He said he would re-do the quote to be more clear, and we would have it by Friday. Monday rolled around and we did not receive it. When my co-manager followed p with a phone call to Trent, he said Mike was supposedly going to work on that and get it to us. When John followed up with Mike, Mike seemed confused or surprised that we needed a clarified quote. He thought it was quite clear. When John told him we would find someone else, Mike said he would get with Trent to make the adjustments to the scope and quote. Weeks later - no quote...and no work for Estes.
Description of Work: requested a quote for some wooden deck cleaning, exterior painting, and minor carpentry repair on trim of building

Response from Estes Painting
As a reply to this complaint. Estes Painting has a strict rule about meeting with only the client. We were under the impression we were meeting with the client that day however when we got there he was not there. The reason why the first quote wasn’t exactly like the client wanted was because he missed the first meeting and had to rely on someone else to meet us. The first estimate was exactly what John the “building manager” had asked us to do. However rather than blame the “building manager” for getting it wrong it was much easier to just say we didn’t listen and wrote down the wrong things. I’m not sure how that can actually happen. The client called and was quite irate to the point of being rude and demanded for us to come back out. We could have told him at that point that we didn’t want the work if he was going to be so irrational but instead we went back out. When we left the client still had two things he wanted to check and see if he wanted done. That is what we understood so we were waiting on him as far as we knew. We strive and have a history of outstanding customer service. We have many estimates given out a week and never have had this issue before. We tried to correct it and calm the client down by going back out. But I guess you can’t make everyone happy. Even if you try really hard.

Tim was propmt and professional in returning my call. He was able to provide an estimate in a very timely manner. He was 1 day late in starting the job but did contact me to let me know they were a day behind. They arrived the next day on schedule. His crew was wass very polite and professional. they knew what they were doing. They 1st pressure washed the house and gutters and did a great job., The started and finished the whole job in about 2 days (shorter then he anticipated). All looks great. The paint really changed the look of my ugly brick house. I was very pleased. Even better, Tim gave me $200 off final bill because the job was a bit easier and took less time than anticpated!!I would diffinitely use Estes again and would also highly recommmend them.

Our first experience was overall, excellent. The owner made color suggestions and other suggestions to improve home's curb appeal. He provided good sources for other work we needed done, such as gutter replacement. I have recommended this company to others based on that initial experience. Our second experience was not as positive. We contracted for exterior painting, reglazing on windows, repainting iron rails, power washing deck and concrete surfaces, refinishing wood door and carpentry repairs. The owner was quick to respond with an estimate and to get work started. However, the first crew he sent out for exterior painting was not completing work to his or our standards. As a result, the work went slowly and some work had to be redone by another crew. There was a lack of continuity since some painters were fired during the job and communication was problematic. The owner is responsive and conscientious; he made every effort towards our being satisfied with the job. We respect him and know he has crews that work fast, are very competent and provide beautiful work. However, the inconsistency in his crews left us unsure as to whether we would hire his company again. If we did, we'd be sure to ask for and wait for, if needed, his "best" crew.
Description of Work: This company has twice performed exterior painting services for us; primarily exterior painting and some carpentry repair but also power washing.

bbMike Estes was a tad slow in responding to my request for an estimate on our deck but provided the estimate promptly after reviewing the job. They were prompt, courteous, and did an excellent job.
Description of Work: Estes first removed the furniture, grill and planters from our large deck. They pressure washed the deck, tightened loose rails, matched the previous semi-transparent stain and applied two coats to all surfaces, and replace everything after allowing 3 days for the stain to cure.

I called Estes Painting to get a quote and heard back from Mike Estes in one day. Very friendly and professional, Mike came to my house to see the work I needed done. After receiving the quote and realizing I didn't have the money to do the entire project, Mike graciously told me that I could have the work done one job at a time. The house was growing the typical green gunk on the vinyl siding that shows up in Alabama. The crew showed up the day they told me they would (I was at work) and did an excellent job. I was concerned that they might pressure wash around the windows too hard and water would get into the house (the windows don't seal very well), but no worries. There was no damage to any of the plants surrounding my house either. My house looks like I just had new siding put on and I couldn't be more pleased. I'm disappointed to see that a member has given Mike a terrible review when it seems she hired one of his employees on the side and not his company. I will most certainly be calling Mike again when I'm ready to have the interior of my house painted and the windows re-caulked.
Description of Work: I hired Estes Painting to give me a quote on interior painting, pressure washing and window caulking. I wasn't able to afford to have all the services I desired done at once, so I am hiring Estes Painting to do the jobs one at a time. For this review, they pressure washed my house (vinyl siding).

They were very professional and did great work. They started promptly after a contract was signed and finished as quickly as possible within the constraints of the weather. Their employees really wanted to do quality work and did not take shortcuts. They were the kind of people that you like dealing with - professional, courteous, etc. Overall, this was really a good experience.

I called Estes Painting and talked to Mike Estes. He was very polite and explained it would be later in the week that he would call and make an appointment to come to the house. Three days later he called, came out and reviewed what I wanted to have done, He pointed out the window that needed some serious caulking and the rust on the metal alcove at our kitchen. I was glad he saw this and asked him to include these repairs in his quote. The next day I had the quote in my email, which I signed and emailed it back to him. Estes then promptly called to set up two days to come out and perform the work. Their employee who came to do the work was on time, and did quality work both with the pressure washing and the deck painting. The last thing he did was the window and kitrchen items as noted in the quote and was exactly as discussed. Our house has a ravine behind it which presented a scaffolding challenge to pressure wash the rear of the house. Estes brought in the equipment necessary to set up a safe working environment and then proceeded to finish the pressure washing at the back of the house. When the work was complete, the service tech reviewed the job with me and I gladly paid them the quoted price.
Description of Work: Estes pressure washed our house, painted our deck, caulked and painted a window and painted the metal around the kitchen alcove.

Mike and his team were very professional from beginning to end. The job was well staffed each day and there was very good communication from Mike daily as to progress status and anticipated next steps. We were pleased Mike's team was able to handle both the carpentry as well as the painting which were both outstanding. Given the amount of work performed I feel like this was a very good value for the money. I would certainly do business with Mike and his team again and would highly recommend.

The work performed was excellent. They matched the oclor of the paint to the existing paint color of the walls, trim and molding perfectly. Once the room was finished, you could not even tell there had been any water damage at all. I will definetley call Mike again when I have any painting needs.

It could not have gone better. We were asked what time we wanted the work to begin each morning. The three man crew arrived on time and worked all day with only a short break for lunch. We hardly knew that they were there. The work was completed in three days, a day less than we expected. We could not be more pleased with this crew and their workmanship. We will definitely call them again in the future.
Description of Work: We contracted to pressure wash our rear sandstone deck, and to sand and paint the ft wrought iron railing surrounding the deck. An upstairs patio was also included and the same work performed. In addition, the entire rear of the house of Hardi-plank construction was washed, calked and painted. The concrete support columns beneath the the deck were stained following a consultation with a home decorator that Estes provided to suggest the appropriate color.

I am so grateful that I was able to find a group that I can call upon anytime I need work done on our current house.

The product we researched for the job is called "Deck Restore". It has to be applied under certain conditions which have to be just right to enable it to set properly, and this is where we ran into problems in the beginning. Tempers frayed at times, when it rained for long periods of time in the spring holding up completion of the work, but all turned out well in the end. This is a wonderful product and one I enthusiastically endorse, also the manufacturers in Georgia were very helpful indeed. I had numerous telephone conversations with a man called Mike who gave exact instructions for the application and willingly discussed it with the painters on the job. A young man named Trent did the lions share of the work, he was very methodical, always cheerful, good natured and polite and always prepared to go the extra mile to make sure I was satisfied at the end of each day. The job dragged on much longer than any of us anticipated because of the wet weather, but Mike was always ready as soon as conditions were favorable to send men straight away. It was well worth the length of time it took, the deck looks fantastic now! Several months after completion it looks as though it was just done yesterday. Deck Restore fills all the cracks in the wood, covers all irregularities, covers discolorations, and gives the deck a spanking new look. Another bonus is it does not stain like wood. Rain and leaves have had no effect on it, wet leaves are not staining, just blow them away with a blower and the deck is good as new again. We have been more pleased with this product than with any product for a long long time. We are hoping it holds up, our deck takes a lot of punishment from the weather. Trent has become somewhat of an expert in applying this stuff so if you are thinking of having your deck restored, ask for him. I would certainly recommend Mike Estes, a very affable and obliging man who takes a pride in delivering a good job.
Description of Work: This was a specialized job Mike courageously undertook involving a process he had never used before which gave a completely new surface to the deck we had built 3 years ago which had weathered considerably.

They showed up on time at both jobs. They spent a lot of prep time doing all the things described above before painting. They like to use to the highest quality paint (Aura) which I was in favor of so that I could prolong doing this again. Same for the caulk. They use the stuff that has 50 year or lifetime warranty. Once the painting began they worked dilligently and consistently. They are good about tidying the job site at the end of each day, stacking ladders and equipment out of the way, etc. They completed both jobs in a reasonable time frame (a few days). If they see anything extra that needs to be done that's not major, they just take care of it. The quality of the work was very good. On the interior job all the lines are straight around the ceiling and trim and on t exterior work everything is caulked up tight and window trim is precise. End result on both jobs was first rate. As an aside since the interior job was at my mother-in-laws who is a Senior Citizen they were especially respectful and friendly with her. We were pleased by this as sometimes a Senior can feel insecure with workers in their home. These guys made her feel safe and she was thrilled with the work.
Description of Work: Mike Estes painting did 2 jobs for me recently. In the first job his crew painted the interior of my Mother-in-Law's home. The second job was the exterior of my own home. The interior painting work included things like removing old wall paper and quite a bit of crown molding and window trim. In one room they judged that by preparing existing wall paper properly it could be painted over. They moved furniture and covered furniture, floors and kitchen cabinets effectively before painting. Also patched nail holes from picture hangers and any cracked corners of my sheetrock before painting. The exterior job included caulking, window cleaning, several carpentry repairs and some extra caulking and inspection around a roof area that had historically leaked. They also painted my chimney cap and plumbing vents that pass through my roof. Even changed out my flood light bulbs while they were up on the ladders.

I called three paint companies. Mike gave a fairly detailed quote, which was priced in the middle of the pack. We were pretty flexible about the time for the work to be done, so it took longer than it might otherwise have taken. That was all with my approval and partially because of our crazy summer schedule. I also got the quote mid-April, but took my time in decided which contractor to choose. Then of course all the painters & workmen were over their heads with tornado relief & repair. Once they were free, the team always came when they said they were coming and worked very hard. The paint quality is excellent & covers well. They did the preliminary prep work as thoroughly as is possible with our older siding. Deciding colors was a pain but that was my problem not theirs, and Mike had a decorator he would have recommended had I chosen that. When it was finished I noticed a few little problem places and called Mike. He & one of the guys came back and fixed everything that I had seen, and a few details that I hadn't. That even included installing a new overhead spotlight for me! Above & beyond the call of duty... Our home looks much better and is now protected from the elements in a way it wasn't before.
Description of Work: I had them clean, prepare & paint my siding & doors.

The whole experience was perfect. It was timely, coordinated, professional and follow-through was performed.
Description of Work: We used Estes Painting for pressure washing the outside of our house over the summer. The worker was wonderful. He was there a day and a half and we were very pleased with EVERYTHING. From this first experience, we, several months later, used Estes Painting to paint several rooms in the interior of our house. I made the call one morning, Mike was there soon after for an estimate and within 2 weeks they were at our house to begin. The job, which I though would take 2-2 1/2 days only took 1 day. The team of 3 came in covered everything, prepped everything and then began to paint. By 5 PM they were finishing up, cleaning the floors, vacuuming and removing equipment. Mike came by the next morning and looked at every room. He noted several touch-ups and had one of his team tackle those. His quote was what he charged and the team members were very professional and actually fun to talk to. (I even had to leave for a few hours and had no qualms leaving them alone.) I will DEFINITELY use Estes Painting in the future and will DEFINITELY tell my friends about my experience. -Sandy B.

I recently joined Angie's list and I lined up 3 of the highest rated painters. Mike Estes came out and gave me a quote. I was impressed with Mike right from the start. He showed up on time and talked me through my ideas for the project and offered some more suggestions to the projects I already had in mind. He was very knowledgeable and easy to get along with. Mike was higher on the price side but when I brought that to his attention he worked with me and agreed to match some of the other painters prices. I know for a fact one of the reasons Mike was higher is because he was using much better quality paint than some of the other quotes I got. I truly believe this is one of those things that you get what you pay for. Mike had someone at my house working every day for almost 2 weeks in order to get everything accomplished. All of the workers were very friendly and they always cleaned up their mess each day before they left. Once finished Mike didn't like the way our kitchen cabinets turned out so he sanded and painted them again at no charge to me. Overall I am very happy with my experience and I would recommend them to anyone needing paint work. I ended up spending more than I had originally planned but I believe that I got a great value for the money. My house looks great and Mike assures me that if any problems pop up in the near future he will come out and take care of them.
Description of Work: Paint kitchen cabinets, paint interior crown moulding, windows, doors and door trim. Painted Foyer walls. Replaced all rotten wood on exterior soffits and window casings. Painted exterior trim, doors, shutters and windows. Replace and repaired 3 sections of gutters. Replaced wood on front door casing.

The Estes employees were working at my house on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011 and did not finish that day and wanted to reschedule on Monday, Labor Day, but it rained and we were out of town the rest of that week in KY. We agreed to touch base sometime the next week and reschedule. We (the Estes Employee Jeff Milham & I) exchanged voicemail's during that next week finally setting up a time to come back to finish on Sat. a.m. so this job would not interfere in work that was already scheduled for the following week. My neighbor across the street, a local attorney, spoke face to face with Jeff Milham on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011 about possibly doing work at his home. So, this is solid evidence that Estes Painting was at my home during their suposed work hours. Jeff Milham gave us the quote for the porch job over the phone. We accepted the quote and scheduled the time for the work to be done on Sept. 2, 2011. Jeff Milham never presented us with a invoice or contract to sign. The contract was verbal and the check was proof of payment. I have an email from Mike Estes stating that his insurance company will get in touch with me and Jeff Milham was fired at this point. This email is dated Oct. 13, 2011 I have phone records to prove they were at my home on Sept. 2, 2011 and on Sept. 12 when Jeff Milham called to verify Williams hours over the weekend to turn in for calculating his pay that was due him. I notified Jeff at that time that William asked for some of the money that day for gas and we gave him $75 and had written a check to him, Jeff Milham, for the balance $450. He said that was fine. He just needed Williams Hours for Sat. and Sun. Filed Claim against Estes Painting in Sm Claims Court. Mike Estes attorney never put him on the stand for my attorney to cross examine him. And my check was not made out to Estes Painting the judgement was in his favor. His attorney claimed Estes painting did not send Jeff out to my home. Even though I still have the voicemail message with Mike Estes saying he sent Jeff Milham to my house to do work. Which I will save for anyone who wants to hear it. I have told the truth from start to finish. I was told that in the court system is not about the truth....it is about what can be proven. By hiring Estes Painting it cost me $525 plus $4750 replacement of ring plus tax of 427.50 tax plus court cost $260 plus attorney cost $175 for a grand total of $6,137.50 . It is not worth worth it. And every chance I get to tell my story about my experience with using Estes Painting I will from now on think of it as my duty to spread the news about what happened to me. Mike Eses Attorney knew not to put him on the stand because he would have to admit that he sent Jeff Milham and William Thigpen out to my house on Friday Sept. 2, 2011 to paint my porch. That is what he is saying on the voicemail.
Description of Work: Reputal to Estes Paintings Response...I HAVE A VOICEMAIL MESSAGE SPEAKING to the fact that his employees were at my home doing work for me if anyone would like to hear it. This way you can decide for yourself if you want ot believe Mike Estes or me. Email me and I will get back in touch with you with contact information. I am taking Estes Painting to small claims court 4/2/2012. I will update this report after that date. They painted my front porch, shutters and 2 doors. And one person stole a piece of expensive jewelry. They did a fabulous painting job. I would have hired them to do the interior, but the quote was 2 times more than it should have been. Also, a worker (who I can not name in this document) stole jewelry from my home while they were on my property. Estes painting quoted me $525.00 to paint the front porch and I had a cheaper quote but I chose Estes Painting, which I regret choosing ESTES PAINTING now. I'm now in the process of filing a claim with their insurance to have the owner take responsibility for the stolen piece of jewelry. Update...they are refusing to cover the property that was stolen. I did a internet search on the person that I believe stole the jewelry and he had a prior history for burglary. Go figure. Take my advice....it was not worth $4750 to have my porch painted. Jewelry appraisal.....................................................$3500 Actual replacement cost to have the ring made ........$4225 Porch painting......................................................... + $ 525 $4750 Quote from Jeweler to replace the ring that was stolen. -----Original Message-----From: Billy Hammock <creativejewelers216@gmail.com>To: Criss <fraserbc63@aol.com>Sent: Fri, Oct 28, 2011 3:39 pmSubject: Ring I got the price for the ring $4225.00. Response from Estes Painting
The member needs to pursue the responsible party not a non party as set forth below. Estes Painting, LLC took this allegation from the member very seriously. We carry insurance for a reason and that is to protect us and our clients. Before even investigating this we immediately turned it over to the insurance company and then we launched an investigation of our own. What we found was that we had done a bid for the member for the property on Old South Lane, and she said it was too high. The member then decided to call an employee of Estes Painting, LLC, a laborer, not the owner or manager, and had him come out on a Sunday to do the porch work. Normally Estes Painting, LLC does not discourage an employee from picking up weekend work (we don’t even normally know when of if they do) but if they do, that is their job not ours. Not being an Estes Painting, LLC job, Estes Painting, LLC did not invoice for the work. Estes Painting did not give any estimates on actual work performed, did not have a contract to do the work, never had a presence on the site nor did it ever receive any money from any of the work that was done by others. No invoice or statement was ever sent to the member by Estes Painting, LLC for any work for her. In a letter sent to our address by her is addressed to a Jeff Estes Painting, a company unfamiliar to us and which references a William Thigpin who had worked for us in the past but was not an employee at the time of the subject painting job. From our investigation it appears that Geoff Milham, was working for the member on a weekend. He was working for himself on her house not Estes Painting, LLC, and he brought a “buddy”, William Thigpen, to help him one weekend. That is the person she accused of taking the ring and against whom you have filed the police report. The member had William Thigpen come over on another Sunday and paid him cash and deducted it from what she paid Geoff Milham. The member then waited over a month to report this to Estes Painting, LLC. When asked if she could produce an invoice or canceled check showing Estes Painting, LLC had done the work, she could not. That along with other information our Insurance Co. acquired during the course of their investigation, produced a finding that it appeared to be a fraudulent claim. Based on the information we found and the findings of the Insurance company, we had no other option to but to deny responsibility as Estes Painting, LLC did not do the work, received no money for the work and did not have anyone on the clock working at that home. Estes Painting, LLC works in some of the most expensive homes in the Birmingham Area strictly because of our reputation and we have never had an issue like this come up. If some validity or proof were to surface we would assume responsibility immediately and give the client restitution, but to this date, we nor our insurance carrier have found one. Please rest assured that Estes Painting, LLC has spent years in the Area creating a “flawless” name for itself and hope that the members of Angie’s List will take that into consideration. We have been and will always be “The Best” on Angie’s list. Mike Estes President Estes Painting, LLC 205-910-0219

The overall quality of the painting was very good, although a little overpriced. The only problem I experienced was a lack of clean when the job was done. There was paint on the floor and on the bathroom hardware.
Description of Work: Estes painted two rooms for me.

I read good reviews about Estes Painting on Angie's List. I had gotten 4 quotes for the project, and all of them were too high, so before doing it myself I decided to give Mike Estes a call. I left a message, and he called back later the same day. That afternoon, one of his employees, Geoff, dropped by the house and looked at the project, measured the fence, etc. Mike called back the next day with what I thought was an excellent quote, so I accepted it. The next two days, Geoff and another workman pressure washed the deck, fence, and all steps. We had to wait a week to apply the sealer because it rained every day. As soon as we had a window of sunny days, the work was finished. Excellent job.
Description of Work: Pressure washed our 4 level deck and both sides of the 155-foot wood fence around our back yard. Two coats of sealer were applied.

gutter cleaning

He never showed. When I asked what happened he tried to reschedule. I was agreeable to this because his price seemed very reasonable for what I wanted done. He later called back and said he was subbing the work to a gutter guy and that guy would call me. When the second guy called I scheduled a time and date. The second guy never showed! What a huge waste of my time waiting for these guys to show at my house.
Description of Work: I requested that the gutters be cleaned and that the corners in two locations be resealed.
