Estes Painting

I purchased the condo for my daughter to go to UAB. I called Mike Estes on June 19 and asked him to meet me at the condo to get a quote for painting the entire condo from ceiling to base boards at 11:00. He was there at 10:30. I told him we closed on the condo on July 20 and would like them to start at 8:00 a.m. He measured the condo and gave a quote of $4500. Stated it would take 3 days to finish the job. On the morning of July 20 his crew was there at 7:45. They finished 3 days later on July 23 at 2 p.m. I paid $4500 for the job. I worked on a paint crew in college and was active duty Navy for 12 years. This was the first home I haven't painted myself. This was the most amazing paint job I've ever seen. The attention to detail was outstanding. After the closing I went back to the condo and his crew was putting down 3 mil plastic on the floors and taping it down so it wouldn't move. No spills, no missed areas, no bleeding of previous paint colors. Mike gave a card with his email and cell phone. Every time I called him he knew it was me because he put my name in his address book. If you live in Birmingham and you don't use Estes painting you are making a huge mistake. Rob Schuyler

The project manager and two painters arrived at the agreed upon time. The job done by the painters was even better than I had hoped for. Everyone with whom I dealt at Estes was professional and courteous. I liked their work so much that I have asked for estimates for two future painting jobs including interior and exterior painting. Mike Estes was wonderful to work with. He was very communicative throughout the entire process since the weather was not very cooperative with the original scheduling. Alex came out and pressure washed the entire exterior of our log home by himself in one day, which is quite a job. He and Danny returned a few days later to begin the staining process and they were extremely fast and very efficient - they did a great job - you couldn't even tell that anyone had used ladders around the house because none of my flowerbeds were disturbed. They cleaned up each day and took away any empty containers, leaving no trash behind. The best part (besides the fact that the house looks spectacular) was they also washed the exterior windows! I can't say enough good things about what a great group of guys they are and would highly recommend them to anyone in need of their services. I will definitely be using them again in the future.

The Estes Painting crew was very professional. Workers were on time and ready to provide any assistance as needed. I initially contracted for the painting of the exterior home, but added four interior rooms. The work was performed on schedule and lasted a total of five days. I was very pleased with the work (painting, power washing and carpenter), as well as the observation and/or advice of other items within my home which needed to be repaired prior to painting the exterior home (i.e. replaced of rooted areas such as doors). Price was excellent and I have received a lot of outstanding comments from my neighbors on the painting of my home. This is the third time that my husband and I have hired Estes Painting Company. We were exceptionally pleased with the job they did and would highly recommend Estes Painting to anyone who needs interior or exterior painting done. Mike Estes gave us a detailed estimate for the proposed job, and the cost at the end was exactly as quoted, except that my husband and I added the pressure washing and sealing of the deck after the initial contract was signed. Joe Johnston, the project manager came by each morning and each afternoon to check on the progress of the work. He was exceptionally patient with us as we made decisions about the colors to be used. Initially, the company sent out two men to pressure wash the house and deck. The following day, two carpenters came out, replaced boards on the garage door facing and on one end of the house, as well as replacing a few rotten boards around a few of the window frames. They actually identified a few problems that we did not realize we had. Over the course of the next several days, two exterior painters came at 8:15, worked all day with just a brief break for lunch, and worked until at least 4:30 each day. They covered the windows with plastic and they spray painted 2 coats of paint over the exterior of the house and the garage doors. Because the house exterior is 36 years old and has not been painted in over 20 years, the wood soaked up the paint. In order to get good coverage, the painters used rollers and hand painted the exterior with an additional coat of paint. Then, they hand painted the trim, soffits, chimney, and exterior doors. Finally, they sealed the deck. At every step of the process, the workers were punctual, efficient, and they used their time wisely. Joe listened to our questions, gave us his input in a constructive manner, and did everything that he could to ensure that we were happy with the result. Whenever we need painting services, we will call Mike Estes.

Mike Estes and his crew have 20 years of experience and it shows in their professional and quality of work. I would recommend Mike and his crew to anyone who is looking for quality work at a reasonable price.

Arrived on time and did the job as expected and discussed.

Estes Painting repaired boards that were weakened by squirrels and by time. They provided materials that squirrels couldn?t chew through. The painters spent almost two weeks preparing the house for painting by scraping, replacing rotten boards and caulking what needed caulking. They spent hours scraping the iron railings to get all the paint off. I have never seen a painting company provide such a thorough preparation before. The guys were considerate, well-qualified and easy to work with. The owner informed me during all the stages of the work what needed to be done and how long it was going to take. All the work took approximately three weeks to complete. The painting looks amazing and I am extremely satisfied. Estes Painting deserves accolades for a job done very well.

Mike and his crew were great to work with. They really understand customer service. I have done a lot of painting the last 20 years, their work is excellent. They spent 2-3 days on prepping the house before painting. Prep work was excellent. Painting was even better. These guys are real pros. Everyone on the crew was very polite and quick to respond to any requests that I had. They cleaned up well after the job was done. Once again, real pros.

Estes Painting did a very good job painting my house. He and his team were very thorough, pleasant to work with and very professional. I always knew where we were in terms of timelines and financials. As per our agreement whenever they found issues, rotten wood, broken shudders, bad caulking etc. they repaired the problem in a professional manner. They pressure washed the entire house and then spray painted and brushed/roller painted. I was a little worried about the spray painting because I had never seen it done on an older house like ours (1953). We have a lot of mature shrubs and plants against the house that needed to be treated with care. Estes was used to this circumstance and everything went without a hitch and without any damage to the plants. I would certainly use them again.

I needed the interior painted of my rental property. So, I called about three painters and Mike was the first one to call me back. I also needed a quick turn around and Mike was very quick to respond and met me at the house for an estimate the same day. We looked at the house and agreed upon a price (which I thought was). Mike and his crew were there the next morning (on time) and finished the same day. I would not hesitate to use Estes Painting again. It is nice to see that some companies (like Estes Painting) still go that extra mile and believe in customer service. Thanks, Mike.

Mike was very punctual and responsive. I contacted him Monday and, with timing and weather on our side, they were finished by 3:00 on Tuesday.

We needed to have our older home painted. Estes responded quickly. Trent came, saw, and listened! Estimate was sent to us quickly - completely outlined as to price of each task to be done. Started job within days of agreement to prices, paint selection. Pressure washed house, gutters, deck, and concrete. Had a carpenter who could repair/patch some areas and didn't slow down the job one bit. Very courteous crew, cleaned up at end of every day. Good attention to detail. Pleasure to deal with. Called Mike for an estimate, he came the next day promptly at the stated time we discussed. We discussed what had to be done and he provided an estimate the next day. His estimate was about $3000 less than the other estimates I received from other contractors. The work started the following week, as he completed the previous job they were on. Once the work started the work crew kept at it until completion. The job was completed in about 6 days all total. The crew were always on time each morning, some of the hardest workers I have ever seen, especially in the brutal heat. At the end of each day the crew always cleaned the work area, never leaving materials scattered around the yard. They were always polite and courteous, and willing to answer any questions I had. I never felt uncomfortable asking anyone a question. When the job was complete Mike came by to review the work, and had the men come back for some minor touch up. I much appreciated the extra attention. One thing about Estes Painting is that they are interested in not only doing the job right, but also ensuring the customer's satisfaction. And I mean full satisfaction. Mike is very easy to talk to and kept me updated as the job progressed. I also passed Mike's name on to several friends in full confidence they would be as satisfied as I was. Mike did some work for me about 6 years ago, I was as pleased then with the work as I am now. I have some additional work to be done and plan calling on Estes Painting again. Simply put, great guys that do a great job at reasonable price.

Very negative. They had one problem after another. We finally got it done right but it was a nightmare. They didn't cut the board even, if you looked at the bottom of a gate, they put a vertical board and they were all uneven which was really not good. The carpenter had to come back on his own time and cut them all even. The gate didn't close right because it wasn't hanged well and they had to rehang it because of my insistence. One of the 4 by 4 posts was out of the ground because the cement wasn't set properly. They sun contracted to a gutter company because i wanted them to put a gutter up because of the new drainage. It was supposed to be a one or two days job but it ended taking 3 weeks. I had to keep checking on them. I wouldn't recommend them. They did come back and fix things and the owner seemed very concerned. They were high on price but my husband did the negotiation.

We dealt with Trent and everything went very smoothly.The work was done quickly considering the amount to do and the rain. They power washed the entire house (brick) and the to-be painted areas, spent days scraping and prepping the windows and wood. The repairs went quickly as did the garage door installation and the painting itself. It wasn't cheap by any means, but when Trent was doing the estimate, I emphasized I wanted it done right, and THEY DID. Oil based primer and multiple coats, especially on the front door and porch columns. Very good job. It made the wife happy and well, you know the rest. I have more projects as I can afford them, and Estes is who I will call.

They got started the day after we called them. Their people were very courteous and were willing to work around our schedule. They finished in 3 days. The decks and our drive look fantastic. We have used them several times in the past for other kinds of painting and each time it was been a great experience. They stick with a job until it is finished and done right. I recommend Estes Painting very highly. You won't be disappointed with them. They do great work

With some exception, I am happy with the colors that were used and I am delighted with the design of the custom shutters. Estes did a good job of cleaning up the site after the job was done. The men who did the work were polite and pleasant. The job was to include removing the paint from the concrete front porch and sealing the concrete rather than repainting. I explained to Mr. Estes, and anyone else who would listen, that paint on the porch would soon begin to peel and look unattractive. When the job was ongoing, I was advised that they could not remove the old paint from the porch and it would need to be painted. At one point I was told they would paint some samples on the porch so that I could select a color. This did not happen. The color used is too light and is already stained and peeling. A similar issue arose with the deck which had previously been stained a color that I didn't like. I was told that a clear seal could be applied. After pressure washing, I was told that all the old stain and dark spots could not be removed and the deck would need to be painted. It was painted a light gray that I'm not happy with but that's my bad because I chose the color. I had them replace the hand rails on the deck because the old ones were apt to give you splinters. The new ones are no better. The wood is rough and uneven. I believe Mr. Estes should have advised me that nothing would be gained by spending the money to replace the railing or given the reason they were being replaced, the wood could have been sanded. There didn't seem to be anyone in charge of overseeing the job and managing expectations. In some cases two or even three different people would talk to me with a question or an issue. It was apparent that they weren't talking to one another. The shutters were added to the contract. While I paid the amounts I was told, I never received an itemized account and am not clear as to whether the shutter cost was the total of the additional amount I paid plus the cost of contracted work that was not done or if I was charged for additional work. The attention to detail in the work was not there. I will be painting spots that were missed on the shutters. Overall, I expected a firm with an A rating on Angie's list to be more organized and do better work. I feel that they over promised and under delivered. There should have been one person in charge of inspecting the work and managing expectations.

They responded promptly when we called about the issues that we had with their work. The quality of the work turned out to be very good once it was finished. The crew treated us with courtesy.

They came out and even gave me an estimate. Once I said that I wanted to go through with it they said that they couldn't do the job.

The original work performed by Estes was exceptional. On this job, I dealt with Joe Johnston who was the office manager. He was quick to return the quote and the work was exceptional. After it was complete I asked for them to install a small section of picket fencing and paint it. This is where all of the issues started. I received a quote from Joe and was told the project would begin within two weeks. That never happened. I was then contacted by the owner, Mike Estes, who explained Joe had been let go and he needed to come remeasure the section of fencing that was to be installed. I then received a quote for $1000 more than the original one and his explanation was that he had to charge more because his guys "do quality work" after telling him I was unwilling to pay the additional amount and wanted the job completed for the amount I was quoted by his office manager or I would hire someone else, he responded by saying, "Good I don't wanna work for you lose my number man .. "

Estes did an excellent job, working very efficiently. we've already gotten a lot of compliments on how the house looks.
