Deck Works

We've been wanting to replace our poorly built, aging deck on our home for three years now. We called out 3 construction companies over the past couple of years to get an idea about replacing the deck and also the possibility of adding a screen porch onto our home. Each one of those companies either told us that a screen porch wouldn't work well on the home, or involved a lot of costly renovations to make it work (take out a window, add a french door, etc.) Then, I was able to find Jeff and his crew with DeckWorks. Jeff came out and told me that not only was it possible to have a screen porch, but they could rebuild the open porch and make it work with the architecture of my home very easily. Jeff was extremely honest with me during that process, and I was quite surprised by the price that he was able to quote me (especially with how high I was quoted by those construction companies). He certainly won us over, and quickly scheduled a time to start working. Another thing that I liked about Jeff was the fact that he did not collect any deposit from me. He informed me that he wanted to make sure I was happy with what was built before any money was collected from me. His crew showed up to work promptly between 6:20 and 6:30am every morning. Since Jeff, Joseph, and the rest of the crew only build decks, they certainly have the process down pat. Before I knew it, in just a couple of days, things were coming together. We did run into a few snags, but Jeff and Joseph were constantly calling me during my workdays to inform me of what was going on, the building process, and options to consider. I was very impressed by the craftsmanship that the guys used to build the deck. You can tell that they really take pride in what they do. Top-grade materials were also used, and I really appreciated Joseph telling me how everything was built and how they try to go above and beyond when building a deck, especially in terms of safety and having a deck that's structurally sound. What impressed me the most with Jeff and his crew was their professionalism and courtesy from the top down. Jeff never did mind me calling to ask a dumb question, nor did the crew on site. If you are ever considering building a new deck or replacing a deck in the Birmingham metro, I would HIGHLY consider calling Jeff and his crew first. You will not be disappointed!! I was actually kinda bummed out when the project was finished, because I wouldn't be able to interact with Jeff and his crew any longer. The whole process was actually quite enjoyable and exciting, especially knowing how much our family will enjoy the finished product for years to come. Thanks to Jeff, Joseph, and crew!!

Jeff Snider the owner was very professional, responsive and efficient. He did a great job of communicating with me, pricing several different options I wanted to look at, he was very reliable, thorough and did a quality job for me and his pricing was competitive. He was very helpful and willing to let me pick out my own balusters and deck post lights for my handrails and could not have been more accommodating or professional. He completed the new deck in a timely manner and the men he had working for him were very fast and did good work. I waited 4 mos to have the deck stained and noticed a few nails that had missed the floor joists and Jeff the owner gladly sent one of his men back to correct the problem. I would highly recommend Deck Works and Jeff Snider to anyone needing a new deck or repairs to an existing deck.

Jeff and his crew did an amazing job creating a screened porch and deck for our new hot tub. Jeff helped us design the space, listening to our ideas and offering his own. They completed the job in six days, working long hours and doing quality work in such a professional way. It's been a year since completion and we have enjoyed our porch and deck so much! I asked Jeff numerous times to change the original quote to fit changing ideas for our deck. He always got back to me very quickly. Once we decided to go with Deck Works the guys were at the house in less a week. The job took less than a day and a half. I was thoroughly impressed by the character, cleanliness, and work ethic of Jeff and his team. I received multiple calls during the day to make sure I was OK with certain things they wanted to do. Jeff, Joseph and the crew were excellent. They were prompt, courteous and extremely thorough. If I had a question, they answered it immediately with a detailed explanation. They went above and beyond in making my new deck not just compliant, but safe and secure for years to come. I threw curve balls at them and they responded well every time. The crew was made up of extremely impressive young men. My wife and I could not be more happy with the results. I would recommend them to anyone that asks.

Jeff and his crew were extremely professional and did a fantastic job. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to family and friends. He had a large crew that were very respectful to my wife and family and did a remarkable job. The fit and finish of the deck was top notch. Jeff was also the only one that came up with some construction design alternatives to address some unique terrain issues we had. And as it turned out, his alternatives actually ended up saving money compared to the other 4 quotes we received.

Jeff Snider and his 4-person crew, Joe, Adam, Atticus and Timothy, were a pleasure to work with. The structural design for the new deck was far superior to the way it was originally designed and built. The crew worked very smoothly as a well-coordinated team, taking care of everything in a systematic and skilled manner. Jeff was on-site and leading the work on this project a significant amount of the time. When Jeff had other matters to attend to, Joe took the reins and the crew never missed a beat. I was very impressed with Joe's skills, leadership and communications. This is a top-notch construction crew! I should also mention that they were on time each day, arriving at 6:30 am to start, and stayed late when they were delayed by rainstorms in order to keep on schedule. This is a very hard working team, polite, punctual and skilled!

I cannot overstate how impressed I was with the company Deck Works. I'm not even a person who ever writes reviews, but I was so impressed with them, I couldn't help myself. Let me list the reasons why you need to use Deck Works: 1. They know what they are doing. Many people think that a good deck can be easily built by a handyman or just you, your friends, and YouTube. I had ideas of what I wanted but there were many things about decks I had no clue about. The owner Jeff Snider listened to my requests, offered insight from his 15+ years of experience of just building decks, and helped find a plan to meet my desires while making a deck that will last for years to come. 2. They charged HALF of what another reputable company had estimated me. The other company was good, but they didn't know decks. Not only would I have paid way too much for my deck, the deck wouldn't have been nearly as good due to their lack of expertise. After talking with Jeff, he directed me to make changes that were so much better than my original plans provided by the other company. 3. They were professional and punctual. They showed up at 6:15 every morning ready to work. The crew was extremely courteous and well behaved. Never once did I hear swearing nor did they ever smoke. They seemed to truly enjoy their work. They even learned the names of my kids when they came outside to watch. 4. They were fast. They didn't start our deck and then go off to another job site. Once the job was started, they were focused on our deck. They built the entire deck (see pictures below) in 3.5 days! 5. They communicated about every detail. I received many phone calls during the construction and I was glad for each one. At every step, Jeff and his crew wanted to make sure that the deck was being exactly how we wanted it. I felt like they were building their own deck in the attention to detail that they gave. I would recommend Deck Works to anyone needing a deck. You will not be disappointed.

Completed in approximately 8 days, tear down of existing deck and rebuild of new deck and screened in room.

Very well!! We couldn't be happier. We have a beautiful new screened porch! It has added so much enjoyment of our home and I am sure it has added to our homes value. We could not have asked for a better experience. Jeff Snider called and made an appointment to come by for an estimate. He arrived on time and spent about 30 minutes asking questions as to what type of deck, size, budget, etc.... He then told me he would put an estimate together and email me as soon as it was finished. He sent the email within a day, we discussed a couple of changes and agreed upon his price. He told me the lumber would be dropped off the following Monday at 7:00 am and his project manager would be there to ensure everything was there. The lumber arrived that Monday and they started the deck the next morning. By Wed midday they were finished! My wife and I were thrilled as to their ability to finish in such a short period of time. Our deck is beautiful and the quality is better than I expected. I highly recommend Jeff Snider, his Manager Joseph and the young men he has working for him. These guys are courteous, professional and watching them work together, you can tell they enjoy what they are doing. A great experience from start to finish!

The whole process went extremely well. Jeff (the owner) and all of his workers were very professional. They were prompt, completing all work in less time than anticipated. Their workmanship is excellent. They were very conscientious. As with all building projects challenges arise and these were met with a willingness to deal with the challenge and get it done correctly. I can't say enough about the quality of work and the finished product is really spectacular. Jeff and his team are a delight to work with. I wouldn't consider calling anyone else in the future.

Overall experience was a good one. They were great to work with. They always showed up early in the morning, worked hard all day, and usually left after 6:00 pm. They were quick too. The entire job only took four days and the quality is exceptional. Jeff and his crew were easy to deal with and trustworthy. I had no problem leaving them there alone. I would recommend Jeff, Joseph, and Jacob to anyone who needs deck work done!

Jeff Snider, Joseph and his team did a fine job on our new deck. The workmanship is very good. The deck feels sturdy and the pressurized pine looks good. The stair treads and wide stair railings are particularly nice--easy to go up and down stairs now. The job was started promptly at 7 AM and finished by evening. All construction debris was removed early the next morning. Any comments we had were listened to, and dealt with quickly. We can highly recommend Jeff Snider and Joseph and the crew of Deck Works. Our original deck was over 20 years old and needed work (boards replaced, etc). We were in need to have the deck replaced rather than to continue to do maintenance on the 20 year old deck. Price: We received several quotes and Deck Works, comparatively, was very reasonable for what was requested. There were different options you could add, such as, lighting or aluminum balusters that would increase the price. Reputation: When we had received the estimate from Deck Works, they were currently building another screened porch & deck in our neighborhood. Jeff (the owner of the company) had invited us (of course with permission from the home owner) to come by and see their work. As soon as we walked up, the home owner came out and complimented them saying what a good experience it had been working with Deck Works and if we were going to be building a deck to definitely use them. With the reasonable estimate, the recommendation both from this neighbor and Angie's List…we decided to go with them. We are so glad we did. Professionalism: We could not have asked for them to be any more professional. They were kind, courteous, punctual, extremely hard working. There was no loud music and they were very considerate. They were sure everything was done to code-- no cutting corners. They kept the area clean during the project and when they were finished everything looked wonderful. They started the deck on Monday and were done by Thursday (yes…done in 4 days). They put screens in on Friday…completely finished mid morning….incredible! Despite working long days they were a pleasure to interact with and you could tell they enjoyed what they were doing. They even took time to show my 1 year old their power tools. Flexibility: Jeff (the owner) even up to the day before they began the project, was flexible in exploring different options with us about what we wanted. Even during the week, we made a last minute decision to see if they could do something with the unusable area below the screened porch (it was on a hill). For a very reasonable price, they built a smaller deck below the screened porch and still completed the entire project in 4.5 days! Now that area is usable deck space, where before the only use for it was our trash can storage…definite improvement. Quality: I appreciated that Deck Works used high quality wood (Grade 1 Yellawood) and other materials. I think this deck will be here as long as the original one…if not longer. After interacting with Jeff (the owner) , we knew that they were definitely not trying to cut corners, rip us off, or be dishonest. Actually, we got the impression that the priority with this company was the quality of work…we did not doubt this once we met Jeff and his crew….they were all very skilled carpenters. We would highly recommend this company and would hands down use them again.

Started and completed my project on time and as promised. Great trustworthy crew who worked hard to complete my project. My deck exceeds my expectations. Highly recommended!
