Description of Work: Once the owner had the contract he never followed up. The job took 5 months because of circumstances on their end, however, the owner never called or showed any concern. They are very expensive for the work and quality.

They did an excellent job. They were very professional. They showed up on time and did what they said they were going to do. The cost was exactly what they said. They were great. It was a good price; it was comparable to everybody else. We plan to use them again.
Description of Work: We used Case Design/Remodeling last week and this week. They built a portico on the front of my house and they installed a new door and they reinforced under my back porch where I am about to put ceramic.
The experience could not have been more pleasant. We were extremely comfortable with all of the workers, as they were very professional and friendly. They always answered any questions we had and never seemed to mind me getting in the way to see what the next step was. We finally have bathrooms that we can be proud of. Thank you Case. 1. Initial home visit 2. Planning meeting 3. Contract Signing 4. Spent a morning with designer 5. Work began (on schedule) 6. Work ended (exactly on schedule) 7. Final walk through! 8. Enjoying Beautiful Bathrooms!!!
Description of Work: Closed off an existing hallway closet, opened it up from the wall on the other side and converted the closet into a very roomy shower; thus turning a half bath into a full bath. Additionally, they changed out the old fixtures (toilet and sink). After the half to full bath conversion was complete, they started on our other bathroom which was a complete remodel. This room had to be gutted down to the studs and subfloor. Repairs were made to the subfloor and the room was put back together. New drywall, new fixtures, plumbing, and slate tile was installed. Both baths were upgraded (to meet code) with new ventilation and lighting. Beautiful work.

Everything went very well. The project began the middle of April and ended the end of May. All of the Case employees were very pleasant to work with and they were very professional. The sub-contractors did a great job too. It was obvious to me from the beginning that everyone was interested in pleasing us. We had only one surprise...smoke alarms were added to all four of the bedrooms. We weren't aware that Vestavia requires this so we weren't expecting it. I will definitely use Case again since there are some other projects that I would like to have done this winter.
Description of Work: Our master bath was completely overhauled. We had new flooring, cabinets and light fixtures along with new granite counter and new mirror. New glass/tile shower and commode. Bead board and new paint on walls. Everything trimmed out beautifully and looks as though it is original to the home. Also had new shelving installed in the master bedroom closets. I also had to have my dining room ceiling fixed because of a stain from a water leak in the master bath. This, too, was done very professionally and looks great.

He was very convincing and I felt that they and another group were by far the best and most interested in obtaining the business. They had come prepared. I am considering using them. I am planning in getting an estimate next month. They sort the customers out. They were very personable, and knowledgeable. Both the owner and his designer were both there and were very enthusiastic. They had pictures to show me. It was at a fair cum convention where I had the chance to meet and talk with this provider. They approached me as I was walking by. They were not reluctant to talk to a woman even though there were many men there. They were very professional. They showed me respect.

I called the company and set up an appointment for June 15, 2011 to get an estimate on replacing the columns on the front porch. The guy that came out was very punctual and polite and said he would get back in touch with me. I received an email on June 29th saying he would have something for me ASAP. It is now August 23, 2011 and I have heard nothing from the company. Needless to say, I will not be using a company that doesn't bother to get back in touch with people. I think two months is more than enough time to work up an estimate.
Description of Work: Since they never bothered to get back in touch with me to give me an estimate, I have not had the work done yet. I would love to have the name of a reputable company.

Given the detail we were looking for, it was fair for us to pay them for the service. We were happy with the alternatives they presented. The option we decided was best was a little above our budget, so we are going to wait about a year to have the work done. We are pretty sure we will go with case when the time comes. We might be able to get the work done a LITTLE bit cheaper somewhere else, but we were impressed by their professionalism and believe their estimates will be more reliable, design more precise, and that their project management skills are better than most alternatives.
Description of Work: We had Case give us a detailed estimate and high-level design of several options for remodeling our kitchen.

After much thought I decided to take a different approach, but I really appreciated this company's professionalism. They appear to be very thorough and were the most detailed and responsive of the companies I contacted. The final low estimate was about $10,000 plus cost of materials. The designs presented ranged from that low to about $17,000, including obtaining building permits, etc.
Description of Work: I sought bids on a tub to shower conversion in a small bathroom. A company representative arrived at my house on time to look at the bathroom and give me an initial estimate. He was very professional, and when I said the bid was too high, he said he would work on some alternatives. He got back to me with three alternatives, each broken down into cost segments.
Everyone associated with this contractor was very professional; they secured all permits and were very flexible and accomodating of my design interests and preferences. The finished product surpassed my expectations. The negatives experiences I had are characteristic of this trade in general, and can be catagorized as communication problems and delays. Miscommunication occured in the ordering of parts, between the project foreman and the tradesmen, and in misunderstanding the general construction demands of the installed equipment. These problems then led to construction and installation delays that stretched a two week project over four months. The lessons I learned from this experience are that I will micromanage and that I will add a project delay clause to reduce the cost by a given percentage for every week delayed in the completion of the job.
Description of Work: Case was hired to rebuild a fireplace and chimney, and install a vented gas fireplace insert. The contract also included replacing damaged sheetrock and the installation required electrical and plumbing work. Chimney work required demolition of old chimney, installation of a new exhaust system and replacing roof shingles.
My husband would remember the amount because he dealt with that. They re-contracted them for sort of all the work except for installing the cabinets which we did ourselves so they had their own person that they brought in to do the floor tile and we bought the countertops from another company so that company agreed to send out and they came and they did. We paid them to do the installation of the counters. We paid a separate company to do the counters. We bought them from a separate company and found them ourselves. We paid the counter people. We were completely satisfied with Case Design/Remodeling. We thought they were great. They were extremely professional, did everything when they said they would, had really good workers and people that they contracted out, the tile guy was amazing. They weren't the cheapest ones, but they were really reliable and I would recommend them to anybody. We love our kitchen. They do a lot of design. We kind of designed it. They helped us with what was realistic. We used the kitchen plan so we had picked out the layout and they came in and sort of looked at it and told us what we could do as far as taking out the walls and I think they did a fantastic work. They adjusted a couple of other things. They were pretty thorough and professional. They were very good. If some thing went wrong in the middle they would cut down and have someone else immediately. We've heard a lot of horror stories about contractors and so we never felt scared. We trust them and they were very reliable. Their price was a little high. We could have gotten it done for cheaper. I don't remember how much it cost and we have a very small kitchen. It was little on the high side and I think it was worth it. We would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: We used the services of Case Design/Remodeling about two years ago. We had our kitchen redone by them. They tore out the floors and the walls and added insulation, rebuilt the floor down to the construction underneath, they tore down two walls and reconfigured them.

All work was done by Handy Man, James. First utility room floor replaced and this went fine. After that part of job, I had to keep pointing out to James the unfinished items like raw edges on new flooring, quarter round, etc. The screen door was re-screened fine and new hinges were fine. Problem here as every job after the rebuilding of utility room floor, is that he left things half-way done at the end of the job. I had to tell him over and over to "install a catch on the face of door for screen door to close in to," and such on other things he worked on. He really screwed up the locks --- simply did not know what he was doing. The worse part is he would say ridiculous things like, "oh that is as far as the bolt goes into the wall, IT IS SAFER THAT WAY." I think only an idiot would believe this. At this point I called the owner, Mr Cohn, who sent a locksmith out who took 15 minutes to have the dead blot fully going into the recess on the door jam. James actually left my house in unsafe mode and told me a tall tale rather than admit he didn't know how to do the lock. It was one incidence after the other like this. Though my last complaint about James is on a simple job, it highlights his overall attitude: He had put weather stripping at the bottom of my Kitchen to Utility room door (this opened to outside at one time). The stripping he put down scrubbed against the floor "heavily," and as the last thing he did, I asked him to raise the piece of stripping. He was back there for a couple of minutes and come out to leave, "all through," he said. I said, "that was fast." Well the door was still scrubbing "heavily." I thought he had just not raised it enough and after listening to it for a couple more days, I took the strip off myself (it is a very simple thing), BUT to my great surprise, even after all the "at least 2 dozen times I had to tell him about a problem," JAMES HAD NOT EVEN MOVED THE STRIP. How do I know? There was not a second set of nail holes!!!!! He was incompetent in several areas of the job. NO ONE CHECKED ON THE JOB PROCESS AS ADVERTISED. Only when I called Mr Cohn toward the end did anyone check on the handyman. Oh, one last thing, my dryer vents into the floor into basement and then to the outside of house. A few days after James left, I noticed the outside piece was askew and upon further investigation in the basement, I found that JAMES HAD NOT EVEN ATTACHED THE HOSE FROM THE FLOOR VENT TO THE VENT HOSE THAT RAN TO THE OUTSIDE. He cannot be this inexperienced. So I can only assume that as with everything (after the laundry room floor) he was just not concerned about the quality. I guess he also did not think I knew ANYTHING about ANYTHING. .....Mr Cohn took 15% off my bill (the net amount I paid was $2000 AFTER DISCOUNT AND $250 ANGIE'S LIST COUPON). Mr Cohn did try to make things right: ex, he sent an electrician out to finish another thing James had "Not finished," and turns out James's explanation to me was nothing remotely the problem with the electrical item. ....THE PROBLEM IS THAT I SPENT TONS OF TIME "SHOWING "JAMES WHAT HE HAD LEFT UNDONE, UNFINISHED, OR CALLING AND RECALLING THE OFFICE ABOUT "LOCKS" "ELECTRICAL PROBLEM" AND OH YES DON'T FORGET THE AMAZING DRYER VENTING --- WHAT A JOKE! The cabinet door catches were a joke too --- I had to install different ones that actually worked. Why pay someone $62.50 per hour (a discount price from the usual $85 an hour Handyman charge) when I can hook up a dryer and put on cabinet hardware and weather stripping myself. I can also call a locksmith to change locks and an electrician to fix electrical problems. My advise is don't hire Case handyman and expect that as a professional he will have an expert come in when needed. This is what company advertises --- it just does not happen.
Description of Work: Utility room floor replaced and new flooring laid. New Washer and Dryer installed. Outside door adjusted to close properly, screen door re-screened and rehung, 2 inside doors adjusted to close properly, kitchen cabinet doors inside closures replaced, new locks on outside doors, weather stripping.

They were extremely professional and very accurate. They were clean. The guy replaced couple of shingles on our roof, and he matched them exactly with the old one. They were very thorough. We have asked the same guy to come back. They were on time which others roofers are not. They were courteous and were reasonably priced. We have never had a problem with the quality of work so far.

They haven't actually done any work for me. The presales process I had with them was very good. They were very professional in their communication with me. They were very prompt with their appointment times. The preconstruction process was very good. They seem like good folks. They were a little bit high. The owner of the Case Franchise is a former professional with an advanced degree in a different field. He got into this and he brought a lot of his training and experience as an advanced degree professional over to the home renovation business. Everything was great about them. I would probably definitely do business with them if I can just try and get the consent of my mom I want to spend that much money. They are definitely people I would do business with. I haven't made a decision yet. They are a little more expensive, but I haven't ruled them out yet. I would definitely use them if cost wasn't my consideration.

They sent a man out to my house and told me what they were going to charge me and it turned out the final bill was twice as much. They are a basically a middle man that sub contract the services out. They were running back and forth to Home Depot many times which wasn't very efficient.
Description of Work: They fixed some light fixtures, repaired garbage disposals, and fixed the faucet. They were supposed to fix some doors as well that didn't end up happening.
