+ -1 moreThe service tech, Nathan, was professional, friendly, knowledgeable and knew what he was doing. He covered his shoes when he entered my home. He was very respectful of my home and courteous. He showed me that he cared about his work and what he was there to do for me. He included and explained to me what he found and he took the steps to correct a couple of issues he found. One of the better experiences I've had with service calls in a long time.
Description of Work: This was my annual HVAC heater check up that was done and since I paid for the yearly check up it did not cost me.

Description of Work: I thought I had an issue with my shower drain, but when the technician looked at it he said there was nothing wrong and just needed the cavity under the marble floor drained and cleaned. He told me what I could do to correct the issue and didn't charge me anything. Very professional.

+ -1 moreIce had formed on the unit. I called them at 9:30 in the morning and they were here by 10:30! We were leaving town the next morning for a week, so I especially appreciated they could repair it today and the house didn't need to sit and stay cold until my return. Jeremy was very polite and professional. He explained the problem to me and gave me the cost before performing the work. He had to leave to get the parts, and he was still done by noon.

Description of Work: Air conditioner outdoor condenser leaked coolant. They tried to sell me on a $16000. complete redo. My house is less than 15 years old so I got a second opinion. The next guy fixed the outdoor unit with some stop leak stuff and it worked perfectly ever since for under 300.

+ -1 moreOur A/C unit was out when we came home from vacation on a Sunday afternoon. I called 2 companies for a service call and one company wanted $290.00 just for the after hours call (not including any repairs) and Evans said they would only charge $89.00. I had heard good things about Evans so I went with them. They came out right away and diagnosed a burned out motor blower wheel. They were not able to fix it that day because the part was too large to be kept on the truck. They had to get one from a parts place the next day. I didn't feel like I needed a second opinion or estimate because I recently had the same issue with a rental property in another state and I knew how the system acted and how much the repair cost me there. Craig (the same serviceman that came out on Sunday), called me Monday morning with an estimate to do the repair. He said the charge would be $724.00 but that they would give me a credit for the $89 service call the day before and also a $50 gift card discount, making the total cost of the after hours call, the service call the next day and the parts and labor $674. He came out at 12:00 and took about 2 hours to complete the repair. He checked everything else on the system and all was running well. He also wore shoe covers every time he came inside the house, which I appreciated very much.
Description of Work: Replaced blower motor and blower wheel. Also checked entire unit including coils and freon.

+ -1 moreI had an area between two sprinkler control boxes in my front lawn that stayed muddy. One of the control boxes stayed fulll of water. I dipped the water and some of the mud out of that box and could see water running in from the direction of the pipe that connects the two control boxes I called Evans to send someone out to fix the leak and they told me he would be at my house before noon that day. Shortly before 1:00 P.M. I called back to Evans to see if anyone was going to show up. They said he would be at my house "soon". He arrived around 3:00 P.M. and I explained the problem to him as stated above. He looked at the water meter, which is located slightly uphill from the two control boxes and told me it couldn't be a water leak because the meter didn't indicate that any water was running. I told him I wanted him to check the pipe I suspected was leaking anyway, and he said OK. I went inside and a few minutes later he rang the doorbell, said there was no leak in the pipe. He said he thought there must be an underground spring causing the problem. He gave me a bill for $49.99, which I paid. I then called the water company, told them what the Evans repairman said and asked them to come out and make sure there was no leak. They came, told me a slow leak doesn't always register on the meter and stuck a probe in the ground near the area where the pipe that connects the two control boxes enters the box that stays full of water. They could hear a slow leak. They referred me to a local handyman who fixed the leak in less than 30 minutes. I've had NO water/mud problem since. I would NEVER call Evans again, for any repair. If they can't handle a simple PVC pipe leak I have absolutely no confidence in their expertise in any of the categories they service.
Description of Work: Service call to my home, agent checked the water meter to see if it indicated a leak and he said he checked water pipe for leaks.

+ -1 moreEvans services our unit and the unit worked properly for one week. Evans then refilled the unit three times to make sure that the unit was indeed bad and leaking. We were not out any money in doing this. This was a nice touch. Eventually the unit was determined to be leaking too bad to patch and needed replacement. After the determination was made, the unit was replaced on Tuesday following the last service call on Saturday night! A little more than expense than some of the cheaper HVAC companies, but the excellent customer service more than makes up for the price differential.
Description of Work: Replaced a 4 ton unit that was unable to maintain the coolant due to multiple leaks.

+ -1 moreThe owner was very rude to me on the phone. They totally over charged me when I was already having a crisis. They moved out a washing machine, which I could have moved myself. They charged me $350 for to come here for less than an hour of work. They called another person in. I felt like it was absolutely absorbent especially after being treated so rudely. I called and it was an emergency at night. I told him I'd have someone else come and he said if I had someone else coming they weren't going to come. He was really hateful to me and I thought when you're having a crisis that was totally unnecessary. All they told me is that my washing machine over flowed and they moved it from my laundry room to my deck which is 2 feet. They called someone else to do that and I could have done that and I'm 60 years old. The guy who came out was professional, the man who treated me so rudely was not. I think they took me for a ride at a time when I needed to be treated nicely. I will never again use them in this lifetime. I've used them when I was in Delaware and I was happy with them then.

Description of Work: My washing machine overflowed. When called could not get them to come when said they would, and when called back, owner very rude and hateful. Plumber charged me $350.00 to turn on/off water valves to washing machine that I had already turned off. Told me overflow not working, and called extra man to move my washing machine to deck ... deck was less than 5 feet away and machine was empty.

+ -1 moreAfter a cold spell after the holiday season we noticed water leaking in our basement from the main water pipe entering the house. We called Evans services who was extremely busy due to the holiday and multiple calls. They advised us to go a head a dig out the pipe ourselves to same money which we did. They then came and replaced the leaking pipe. They were knowledgeable and saved us some money. MY only complaint is it to took them longer than promised to reach us. (We had to cut the water off coming into the house). But this is understandable to the flood of calls after the holiday and a hard freeze.

+ -1 moreIt was awful. They called and showed up promptly, but that's probably because they knew it was a quick, easy buck.
Description of Work: My husband and I had an issue with a hand shower in our large master bath tub that was very important to resolve ahead of putting our house on the market for sale. I described the problem in detail over the phone to a reception then a plumber - the receptionist told me that a $49 fee would be required but would be refunded if we chose Evans to complete the work we needed to be done. Again, I described the issue in detail to the plumber. On arrival, to plumbers arrived, and one of the two sat on our bathtub and listened to us desribe the problem again, which was that we needed to replace the brass hosing for the handshower, which was about to burst due to a tear in its outer layer. The plumber then proceeded to tell us that there was no way that this problem could be repaired without our first hiring a carpenter to make the side of our tub into a side with cabinet-like openings, saying it would cost us about $2,000, that he would be unable to remove the side without breaking it, no one would be able to do so - he said this had to be done. He said that he had encountered this problem before, where valves and such are enclosed below a tub and its encasement such that doors had to be built to access them when problems developed. He kept mentioning that there was a motor at the other end of the tub until finally we realized that he thought our large tub was a jacuzzi with jets, which it is not, and under our tub there is no such motor. At any rate, he took our $49, which was cashed the next day by Evans. The plumber recommended a carpenter to us when we asked who had done such work before, he said, and when we called that party, he knew immediately what we were talking about, and we were told that the work could cost as much as $2,600. Such an amount for us was utterly prohibitive, and we were shocked. Later, prompted by the cost estimates, my husband gave the matter a further look and realized he could fish out the valve to which a new hose could be attached. We were able to solve the problem ourselves for less than $200, and even less than that had the fixtures not had to have been brass. Our feeling is that the Evans plumber/s and the carpenter he recommended had worked this scam before and made a handy penny for themselves. It turns out the plumber could have told us how to fix the problem ourselves, or could have easily repaired the problem very quickly, and probably for less than the $49 charged for them to come into our home and lie to us. We believe even the receptionist who answered knew what was coming. Evans needs to examine its integrity, if they have any, which from the employees we dealt with appears to be completely lacking. We felt totally violated and ripped off, and are so thankful we were able to solve the problem on our own for so little. We feel very sorry for whoever they have ripped off for thousands of dollars ahead of trying to do the same to us.
