AMERICAN BATHTUB REFINISHERS

I'd called to have an estimate done for a bathtub in a new home that I suspected had been damaged during installation. An employee was sent out and looked at the tub, and told my wife that it appeared the damage had likely occurred during the installation or around that time, and that because of the material from which the tub was made, the probability of successful long-term repair was very low; it would need to be replaced. Since the builder's sub-contractor was refusing to warranty the tub, I called Tim to ask if he could just give me a brief written description of what we'd been told--not looking to get him involved in any sort of dispute, but just looking for something from a professional I could hang my hat on when trying to negotiate with the builder. He refused to do anything of the sort, and basically hung up on me when I tried to further explain what I was asking for. I saw, before initial contact, that one other reviewer who had rated him poorly because of what appeared to be some attitude and/or personality issues. It appears I experienced something similar.

I was under a very tight deadline to get the job completed and had another plumber come out that said I needed to replace the entire whirlpool tub because the motor was inaccessible and it'd cost $2,000+. In addition, he said the motor and parts needed were difficult to locate and it'd take at least two weeks to get the parts, if he could find them. I called Park Supply, the local plumbing, kitchen and bath supply center to see if they knew of any whirlpool tub experts and they referred me to Tim Coffman at American Bathtub Refinishers. Tim promptly returned my call and came out the same day and expertly diagnosed the problem. The motor and keypad needed to be replaced and he knew exactly which parts AND even had them in stock! Tim knows his stuff, was prompt and professional, and did a great job! And he did the job for a very reasonable price! I would highly recommend him!

Mr. Coffman did a very professional job of installing a CleanCut Step in my bathtub. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and hard working.

I called American Bathtub Refinishers on Monday, Nov 23. I spoke to the owner, Tim, and told him I had a 5" hole (diameter of 5") and that I needed a quote for repair. He asked if the hole was on the floor and I said no, it was on the wall and the hole was not accessible from the other side. He said it would be no problem and gave me a quote of $200.00. I asked if he needed to see the hole first and he said it would not be necessary. Tim was very professional in that he stuck to what he said in terms of schedule. When I called, he said it would be next week (the week after Thanksgiving) before he could come. True to his word, he called Monday after Thanksgiving to arrange to come the next day. Before he began work, I asked him if he knew how I could remove the adhesive strips on the bottom of the shower. He told me with mineral spirits and a dull razor edge. He said it would take him 2 hours to complete his work. Since this was a vacant rental house, I agreed to come back in 2 hours. I came back in 1.5 hours and he was just finishing up. When he gave me the bill, I was surprised to see it was for $250.00 instead of $200.00. I reminded him of his quote a week earlier and this is what he said to me, "In my notes, I wrote down the cost was between $200.00 - 250.00. I removed the adhesive strips from the shower for you and anyway, I did a really good job." He did remove the adhesive strips although I did not ask him to. I'm not sure how he wrote down $200.00 - 250.00 because that was never discussed. I very clearly remember his quote was for $200.00. I had gotten another quote for $275.00 but rejected it because it seemed high compared to Tim's $200.00 quote. I would have rather *knowingly* paid $275.00 than pay $250.00 to someone who gave a $200.00 quote. I felt he was misleading because "between $200.00 - 250.00" was never, ever mentioned when he gave the phone quote. My advice about this company: When Tim gives you a quote, email or text a confirmation of the quote back to him. That way, he can't switch the cost of the job on you like he did on me.

Our upstairs bathroom shower was leaking and the problem was identified as a crack in the fiberglass shower. Mr. Coffman was recommended by the plumber who diagnosed the problem. We called him and he came out and fixed the shower and we are using it today! Mr. Coffman was prompt, friendly and absolutely knows what he is doing. Highly recommend.

I placed a call to Tim Coffman after getting a recommendation from a flooring company I used to replace all the floors in our house. He asked me to describe the condition of my tubs to him over the phone. I did, and he began arguing with me about whether he could repair them or not, sight unseen! I told him he really needed to come look at them and give me an estimate. He came to my house to give me an estimate, but did not provide any written information on his product, the colors available, etc. When I told him I'd like to see the colors available in the event that I want to change the colors of our bathtubs to something besides white or almond, he insisted that I should have them painted white! I persisted in telling him that I'd like to know what the choices are before I made a final decision, so he recommended that I visit Park Bath Supply in Huntsville. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of asking him how to get there and he used a very offensive racial slur in the process of telling me where this store is. I think the man probably does very good work, and his estimate was probably very reasonable for the work required, but I don't think he listened to (or cared) what I wanted for my bathtubs, and he certainly has no respect for me (or the racial group he referred to) to assume that saying that word to me would be OK with me. He is very unprofessional, to say the least, and I do not want bigots or sexists in my house.
